Hi sorry for posting in the Sensation forum but my device is the Sensation so I posted here. Tmo is giving away FREE in home signal boosters. I got a text message about this so I inquired about it. I figured what the heck my signal is spotty in my house. I received the booster today and it really works! I'm still wondering what the catch is?? But really it was for FREE! And it works! Just wanted to let others know its available, just ask for it. I had a contract with them anyway so no loss for me. Its actually nice to have a good signal at home now!

What's it look like -- I assume you plug it in -- wonder how much power it sucks from the wall - I get great signal living on 2nd floor
Hmmm this is curious, I will reserve my thoughts on this for a while.
Someone get me one I'm on prepaid
yes I believe it does lock your contract in but for those of us who already are contracted for the two years like I was no loss. What it is is a booster you put near a window then another received you place furthest from the booster. The actual device name is CEL-FI. I was
Kinda shocked myself at the offer! And it ACTUALLY WORKS!

I'm still boggled that it was FREE! If your already in contract what the heck? It helps and its free? Finally I have a decent home signal.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Wow, cel-fi.com charges $525 for it lmao
I got it for FREE! ABSOLUTELY FREE

Are you a T-mo employee??? Sounds like a sales pitch to me.....LOL
You keep on repeating yerself, don't you think we can comprehend the first post??? LMAO!!
No Lamo ,!!! I'm not a employee!
I'm just surprised tmo would do anything for free, hell, they even charge for tethering now! You don't have to be an a** hole to me I'm just saying,

It's rare to come across this, but I honestly don't believe you. You bumped this like 3 times with random sales-esque advertisements about this "cool, free deal". It's like you're trying to secure as many two year contracts as you can.
I swear to God! Only posted because I thought it was a good deal! I'm no way with tmob only affiliate I have with them is when they rape me every month with there bill!

Its not free they add to your contract I got it too it works good if you can set it right I had nothing but trouble getting mine till I put with.window unit out side house and now I get a 9 that make me 3 bar in side but if you have 3g out side you have 3g inside
if you can set it set right
I wasn't told it changed my contract and the change on April 5 made me drop T-Mobile
Fyi you have to call a few to tell them phone don't work in House and unless you just got on contract don't get this
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
What's the point of this if wifi calling is available?
Okay, so if you don't have any wifi in the house (which is rare, I mean it's 2012, and most modems come with the wifi router in one unit) and or your phone doesn't support UMA. Pretty useless IMO

I finally got them to send me one cause I get virtually no signal in my house. It was totally free of charge and no contract extention. They have certain terms that apply. For instance you can't live in an apartment. Now I basically live in a duplex but its technically a one family dwelling according to my local county auditors office so after talking to 3 representatives I was finally able to get the MFs to send me one (expedited shipping). They were telling me something about 911 and them not knowing which place to go to. Now honestly I could see how that would be a problem but me and my neighbors all have the same door to go into. Difference is that you go upstairs to my place and straight into my neighbor's when you go in the front door. Plus my 911 info says upstairs on it anyways. So I will finally be able to use my phone in my own home. I am very excited. You gotta tell them you got a text message about it and make sure if you live in an apartment that it is technically a "one family dwelling". I was lucky.
By the way, not everybody lives in NYC, close together where everyone can get access to free wifi signals in the comfort of their own homes. I did have internet at home with a wifi router but I did not want to pay for 50 a month for home internet and 20 a month for mobile internet too. So how is it "pretty useless" if you don't have wifi and or your phone don't support uma? It is a signal booster. It boosts your signal inside your home when you would otherwise have no signal. Not everyone lives in Perfectnothingevergoeswrongland.

Wow, this is the best thing since slided bread (assuming it works). Just called 1-877-724-4659 and a human answered on the first ring. Just asked if I got any type of 3g signal and I said only at front door (true) and that my wifi calling sucked because of my lousy Fios wifi router (true). She said ok and they are shipping it.
It seems that the reason you need a landline is because the 3g repeater throws off the location that 911 will get if you call from your cell phone in your house. She said it can throw it off by 5 miles which would suck in an emergency. They don't want to be responsible for a bad 911 result.
Letting my parents know about this now, Thanks for the heads up.
they have HSPA but a stupid low signal at their house.
It works, I started a thread exactly like this in the G2 section. It came in less than a week and was literally a plug and play setup. And it works great. I get almost 5mbps now in my house instead of Edge speeds.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Just tried, can't do it if you live in a condo/apartment since it would have the potential to throw off a neighbor's 911 location as well. Just a heads up to anyone in a similar situation.
does this have any impact on our HSPA+ speeds?

cool thanks for the info
so has anyone seen improved 4g speeds? obviously 3g and 4g work off different cell freq but im curious as to if the overall speed across all cell freq are improved
Thanks OP I just got done and getting mine shipped free.
I'm not sure if it increases 4G TBH. Because I have never seen higher than 6.5mbps in my whole city. But it shot my 3G WAY up.
I used to get .05-.50mbps, Edge only in my whole house except up in the corner of one upstairs room. I put the repeater in the that room and the transmitter in my living room and now I see 3-4mbps in my whole house during peak traffic. In the middle of the night I randomly run speedtest (yes, I'm a junkie) and I'll see 6mbps.
BIG thanks to the OP, as I needed on of these bad
the rep told me its some sort of test market deal, and they only 1000 slots for the market research

Pretty sure that's how it started, but this deal has been going on for like 6 months now. I'm sure it has well over a thousand participants by now. When I got mine last month, the chick even told me they have all the survey data they need and wouldnt even be sending me any.
Also you are supposed to live in a single family dwelling and have a landline, however they do not verify either, so if you really want one, just tell them what they want to hear.

just played really stupid
told them my connection is really bad, which it is
toggles from no bar H to full bar E, which would be ok if i got data through E, but 99% of the time i dont. have to toggle from GSM/WCDMA auto to GSM only, then back. though it was the phone, but other places i get E there's no problems. anywhooooo
some things that may help
1. tell them you're getting really crapy reception at your house - this is key. make sure you tell them it's a detached house
2. tell them you DO NOT have internet at your home
3. tell them you use the phone for work
they're shipping mine out today with free ground shipping.
YOU ROCK FOR POSTING THIS !!!!!
I told them I have WiFi calling but it drops and I still got one. And while I was on the phone my call dropped and he had to call me back. Be here in 3 days with free shipping. Thanks op.

I lied and basically said that it's a two family house and my mom lives in the apartment downstairs so even though I have an apartment # that there are only 2 apartments. They approved me and are sending it to me!! Thanks OP!
edit: It was free shipping.. they offered express shipping for 19.99 but I just chose standard

I've read a lot of post about at&t being a terrible network and blah blah blah. I want your opinion on it. I've been with at&t for a long time. I've been with them when was 'Cingular'. Now I've noticed since the atrix and inspire have came out, my network has been very inconsistent. Are you noticing this too? And is it enough to make you switch?

I'm generally happy with speeds and service. Minus the major spots (JFK, LAX, any sporting event) i've never had issues.
I too have been with them since cingular. I have noticed no change. Its the same service I had with my iphone. /Shrug
Ppl were complaining when I had that too But as far as Data was concerned it always worked. i could Stream movies or Sirius any time all day/night.
Still do/can. I don't use the phone part of my cell phones tho so I may have a skewed opinion. I think I currently have 4000+ Roll Over minutes
Ya if I paid for my bill id switch ATT sucks ass ill be on Verizon when my dad makes me start paying
ATT is a bunch of crooks I don't know why my dad puts up with it always some extra charges on there and they never take it off my dad had to call 3 times to get the 9.99 for ATT navigator off my line I kept telling my dad my phone doesn't even have that stupid app cuz I deleted all the bloatware
My girlfriend also works for a ATT call center and they teach them to slam and cram peoples accounts because they think no one will notice the goverment should of never let them buy out t mobile.
ATT got ride of there unlimited plan luckily im grandfathered in
But they put a cap on t mobile unlimited plan after they bought it I think its 5gb then u just get super slow speeds after that
There a giant corperation and there hungry for nickels and dimes
I suggest everyone who pUsh there ATT bill to take a close look at it

ATT is very dirty you should hear half the stories my girlfriend tells me when she gets home
One person had 600$ in long distance charges all because they didn't have a 5$ a month plan
And the worst part is the lady didn't make any of the calls someone tapped into her line and wracked all that up here's another one
Customer calls and complains that he's being charged overages inhospitable cell phone bill for data when he presumed he had unlimited turns out some store employee changed his account to the 4gb plan when he came into the store to add a line. Theres a period ROFL bahahaha
Sorry but any company that puts a limit in the internet is f'd up in my book whether or not its cell phone or home phone its just flat out ridiculous PERIOD
And for anyone with ATT home service I bet you got a lil 5$ a month service line protection plan on your bill and I bet if you ask to remove it'll still be there or it will be back in a matter of time.
They teach their (yes I do know the difference ) employees to slam and cram all kinds of Crap service plan just one of many little extra charges you will catch on your bill

I really haven't had any problems out of them. Of course, I'm not the one paying the bill either. Lol. If I have a problem my mother-in-law can get it corrected with no questions asked. If I was using mobile data more than WiFi, my speeds wouldn't be that drastically different. D/l speeds are around 3.5 mbps, both mobile and WiFi. U/l speeds are 1.5 mbps on mobile, and .3 mbps on WiFi. I had iWireless prior to being added to the account, which runs on the Sprint network, and out here in T county TN, Sprint's service is terrible. With ATT, I actually get service at places that Sprint doesn't cover. My opinion is, after researching plan options from ATT and Verizon, that with the new data plans, Verizon is the most money hungry carrier of em all. 100 dollars for 5gbs per month? At least ATT you get 2gbs for only 30 dollars. With the options we currently have with ATT, if we got the same thing with Verizon, we would be charged over 300 dollars a month.

I get good customer service, albeit with Enterprise Customer Care...and yes they still try to cram stuff I don't need at me. I think most sales peeps are like that. Yeah, $30 is how much they charge us for the 2gb plan around here, which is around the Memphis area. I've just got the $15 200mb data plan as I only use data on WiFi exclusively. You have the "true" unlimited that ATT used to have. Users who had the plan back in their iPhone days, prior to upgrading to the Inspire, won't see their unlimited data capped. I think they feel it would be bad business to cap the data of former and current iPhone users with the old unlimited data plan. Good thing you got it when they still offered it.

I'm Baltimore. Maryland that is, not Ohio and my service is pretty good. I'm on wifi most of the time but I've never been outside with less than 3 bars of 4G. Inside of my house is a different story as I have around two bars most of the time. If I switch to edge instead of 4G I can get full bars. I'd say it is definitely pretty good in my area.
Thanks for the heads up, I got my Mom out of her contract without an ETF, now she's on an unlimited family plan with me. I got her a Sensation today.

She was under contract and they had a change in their terms of service, I called and said I was her (with her permission), told them I don't agree with the change and want to opt out. I also said I won't pay an ETF because of their change in policy, I was put on hold and when the rep came back she said that I was correct, no ETF, offered an unlimited plan for 2 lines $129 + taxes, I said no thank you. She then said I could go to my new carrier, give them my acct. # and have them do the cancellation and keep my number.
If they try to bill her an ETF I will call and say no, you changed your terms and I opted out, done deal.

I forgot about the text and today a 800 number called me. I was wondering who it was it was T-MOBIL, When I called back.
I guess I have another Christmas present coming.
I hope this fixes my problems. I posts a review.
I be using two different phone's:
1. LG G2X P999
2. SAMSUNG GALAXY S
Cel-Fi is a device, similar to a cellular repeater, designed to eliminate in-building dead zones and improve indoor mobile phone reception.
Created by Nextivity, Inc., the Cel-Fi systems are designed with smart antenna technology to seek out the best available signal to maximize signal gain to phone user. The
Cel-Fi consists of two wireless devices, a Window Unit and Coverage Unit that work jointly to increase 3G and 4G mobile broadband connectivity throughout the building. The window unit receives the signal and relays it to the receiver, which converts it and amplifies it.
Trialed for a period of time in both the US and UK by T-Mobile. Approved in UK by T-Mobile and Orange in 2011. Cel-Fi systems are comparable to mobile phone repeaters and femtocell technology.
I HOPE THIS IS IN THE RIGHT FOURM.

Just ordered mine as signal issues have been ongoing for 8 months or so. The requirements as I was told are as follows:
1. You must have only ONE BAR of signal at your home.
2. You must live in either a Residental home OR an apartment complex.
3. Have a cell plan of $65.00 or more per month.
4. They Charge for shipping ( ground - $6.51 Expedite $20.00) must be paid immedialty on a credit card.
5.They EXTENDED your contract for 2 yrs. ( I had done so 2 months prior , so they extended it for 2 more months)
6. You have 20 days to decide if the unit works for you, or you must return.
7. If you leave t-Mobile, you must return the device or they will charge $500.00 for it.
Anyone wanting the device should go directly to " specialized care dept" not customer service.
Specialized care Dept, who actually handles the devices. I was told they do NOT have then in the stores. really hoping it helps my signal issues, as I'm concerened about T-Mobile and the issues they have us all experencing . Once I receive the unit and try it out, I'll report back on how good/bad it is. Good luck out there, Hoping the next year comes with much Improvements on thier behalf... And I be alot happier next year!!!

Sounds pretty cool if you don't have wifi. But if you do have wifi at home, why not just use wifi calling? Still, this is cool information.

For me I still miss calls and I still get dropped calls.
WI-FI works most of the times and sometimes it does not work at all, Or not properly.

I get 2-3 bars at 4G now in my whole house, Before this I had no signal except when WI-FI calling was active.
I'LL repost how well it works at a later date.
Thanks

What frequency band does the Window unit use to talk to the Coverage unit?
If it's 2.4GHz, it could seriously interfere with wifi internet in your home...is that the case?

What frequency is used to communicate between the two boxes?
Cel-Fi uses channels from both the UNII-1 (either 5.15-5.25 GHz OR 5.25-5.35GHz) and the UNII-2 block (5.47-5.725 GHz) to communicate between the Window Unit and the Coverage Unit.

I wonder if they have something for multiple users in an apartment building.
Everyone in the basement of my building gets very little service. I think my landlord would be willing to buy a booster to help the situation. Is there such a thing?
They told me it covers 13,000
SQ./FT.
Prices are about $500.00 US

Thanks for the answer. Does it cover multiple users who are not on a family plan or anything?

I do recall when I worked with T-Mobile that they would sometimes work deals with landlords to provide service to apartment or business buildings. It would need to be the person who owns the property who contacts them, and they have a specific number to contact... I just don't remember what it is right now. It's the same department that handles leasing space for towers, but they also dealt with large buildings. A device like this may not fall under that department, but I'm sure if your landlord contacted T-Mobile's customer relations (not just customer service) then someone would be willing to discuss it.
Well it's only 8 people in the basement, and not all on T-mo so it sounds like they'll just have to stick with wifi calling... or hangin' their head out the window.
I have had this since December.
Here's what's new.
I get 4 bars of signal in my house, garage and outside in my yard.
Single story house.
Exceed all my need very happy to not miss calls any calls or text messages. No more WI-FI calling for me was very unreliable compared to this option.

I'd love to get this, but I'm not really trying to extend my contract with T-Mobile.

I got rid of my contracts and switched to the walmart prepaid version of tmobile (family mobile). 55$ a month 8gb of data is nice for a single line. It uses tmobile towers and service, the only drawback I have found is you cant use google voice or call forwarding other then that, it works well for me.
If you live in an area that gets poor signal or if your house blocks alot of the signal you can call them and complain constantly, and they will eventually give you a signal booster. Especially if you have been on tmobile for a while.
You can buy it for $500.00 and no contract. LOL

No google voice? How do they manage to block that?

So I can convince them to give me the signal booster without extending my contract? My family has been with T-Mobile since 2004? I think... Haha. Also, does it just boost signal for calling, or does it boost HSPA+ and such?
In my case they had on file that we call all the time for no service.
Read my first two post a lot of info there.
I post some screen shots.
Hope that helps.

I have try the original that came with the phone. Ucle2. Uclf6. And none seem to work in the basement i guess is not equipment or software it must be coverage.

att might just have bad reception in your basement. if it's a problem for you get a microcell http://www.att.com/standalone/3gmicrocell/. some times if you call and complain about reception in your home they will discount the cost of one.
I had to buy my micro cell. It works dam good. Couldn't get signal where I lived it gave me 5 full bars. If you leave att or don't have an account it wont work. If your looking for one I'm selling mine. Went prepaid and don't have att account. Pm me for details

That microcell looks very promising, my mom gets very poor service in her home, and though I couldn't find what it costs, she said she would drop her home phone if she got better home coverage, so it should negate whatever it does cost.

When I got mine it was $200

Was only 150 when I bought mine. Att gave me a mail in rebate for the full amount. Lucky me eh.

One thing to keep in mind with repeaters/cell boosters though is that your signal will only be as good as what the booster is getting despite what your phone shows. For example if your Booster has a -95 dBm signal at the roof then even if your phone shows -68 dBm while at the other end you are still just getting the -95dBm so your 5 bars is just your signal to the booster not the actual cell network
MicroCell
I was really lucky. I got a letter from AT&T to come on down and pick one up, all I had to do was keep my cell contact for 12 months, I had just signed a new one for 2 years anyways.
Went from 1-2 bars to 4-5 on my SR and my wifes Apple 3gs.
IF you can get one do. But keep in mind that the way it works is that you have to set it up with and get a GPS signal. Then it will use your internet connect to make and receive calls while your phone is on the MicroCell. I have never really seen any issues either with my call performance or internet speeds while on the phone.
