I have come across an issue where HTC sync does not sync all the documents that are specified in the folder to sync from the PC to the phone - it takes MS office documents - but it does not take Open office file extensions - any reason for that? - a sync programme should not care about file extensions???
Found this thread from a wide Google search.
I have exactly this problem. New HTC Amaze on T-mobile, downloaded latest HTC Sync, and have successfully synced calendar and contact info <-> with Outlook 2003 ( XP PRO). I enabled option to sync Documents from PC, pointed it at a new folder, and it synced only some documents and two sub-folders to /mnt/sdcard/My Documents/Documents/l/Documents and Settings/[username]/[device name] documents/ (whew what a arcane path!). (Yes, \My Documents\ is mounted on drive L: to keep volumes clean.) ... Back to the story. It left out a third sub-folder that contained .WAV, .AAC, and .MP3 files. Tried resyncing a few times. HTC Sync of course offers no fine granularity options, nor even a user guide on the Help menu.
I miss Nokia PC Suite already (12 days with an Android, yes, I am a Major Noob).
Anyone determined why HTC Sync behaves this way? Or ... ... got a better way to do this automagically on USB cord, Wifi, or Bluetooth connection? (Definitely want auto-syncing, not just manual file transfer, that I can manage.) TIA.

Hi, I am using ActiveSync 4 with Windows Mobile 5 on the HTC Universal Pocket PC.
I have 565 Contacts in Outlook, however Activesync only leaves about 100 on the device after the 2nd sync (all 565 copy successfully on the 1st sync).
I also have many Mobile Favourites organised into folders on the PC. Again, only a fraction of them ever stay on the device after the 2nd sync.
I have tried:
Deleting the partnership on the PC and PPC
Checking the Contacts filters
Copying all my Contacts on Outlook to a new folder to delete them from the PPC
Recopying them back to Contacts to recreate them on the PPC (works until 2nd sync)
Manually copying Favourites to the device (they appear correctly until the next sync)
Rebooting device between all the above
Please could somebody help?
I dont know if applies to you but, it did to me; if any of the contacts in Outlook on your computer have pictures for the comtact it wont copy them back across.
I noticed this after setting up my contacts, mostly with pictures, then I had to do a Hard Reboot, and the contacts with pictures would sync back to the phone.
I had to remove all the pics from the contacts on my computer, then sync, then put the pics back on - major hassle.
Thanks but I only have a few with pics and they sync'd fine. Any other ideas?
I don't think I have any photo's on my contacts... but none of them sync, even though Activesync says all is done?
I just created a test contact on the M5000 and it wouldn't sync it back to my PC.
Anyone any ideas?
I ended up moving all Contacts out of my Contacts folder in Outlook and onto a desktop folder, then deleting the partnership in ActiveSync, then recreating the partnership, and finally dragging the Contacts back into my Outlook Contacts folder. They all copied to the device and have stayed put.
Strangley enough, I disconnected and reconnected and all seems fine...
Hi,
Please excuse the noobie question!
I have an alpine and bought a new hermes
Activesync for me has always been a bit hit and miss, with it sometimes connecting and sometimes not
But I have two main issues:
1. How do synchronise my calendar with microsoft outlook's calendar?
2. How do I transfer all of my files and calendar from my alpine to hermes?
Thanks for your patience!
in activesync options on the pc one just click the checkbox for calander and files and whatever one wish to sync
when calender and files are synced copying the file dir for the old phone in my documents on the pc to the new files dir for the new phone and you're set
MS ActiveSync only syncs in one direction...from the phone to the computer or the other way. I need a bidirectional sync so that any entries I make on my phone when out of the office, or are made to my desktop calendar by my staff, are sync'ed.
As it is now, if I put something on the phone and I plug it in to the USB on the desktop, the appt. is blown out because the desktop calendar controls. I can make it the other way around but then my desktop appts. blow out.
There is a 3rd party app called Easy Sync and it does way more than just bidirectional sync but I am wondering whether (1) there is another method or (2) if anyone has experience with Easy Sync in this context.

active sync is syncing in 2 directions (if you make an entry on the device...it will be synced to desktop pc,and vice versa)
that what you mentioned (one way-ppc to pc or pc to ppc) reffers only when you have 2 same entries but with some modifications
eg. i have DLTempler entry on both my phone and pc...i edit DLTemple contact in the phone...eg change the number...if the pc to ppc is checked DLTempler entry will be reverted to entry on the pc...or if ppc to pc is checked entry on the pc will be updated
Make sure you check your settings because the general idea of the PPC is to have a computer away from home. So, "bidirectional syncing" is an automatic function, unless anything has been changed, or your using software that doens't sync properly.
found a setting on the phone side of AS that was a problem. Changed it. Have to test and see if the problem is solved.
Well, what was the setting? I'm having the exact same problem (phone entries will sync to desktop, but desktop entries won't sync to phone).
On my phone I opened AS, I clicked on Menu, then Options, then Settings,
Conflicts: replace item on device
event logging: none
Why that worked? I have no idea.
Hi there.
I've the same problem, my pc sync's with my HTC but not the inverse.
Just to add a note.
Itens on calendar are bidirectional sincronized!!!!
I have a AT&T Fuze that I use with MS Mobile Device Center as a bridge between Outlook on my MS Exchange Server at Work and Outlook 2007 on my Windows 7 laptop & desktop at home. The system works like a top. Lately the display seems a little small however. I've been looking at an HTC Thunderbolt (Android) with the HTC sync application and several after market sync applications. Windows Phone 7 is off the table because of a decision by Microsoft not to sync with it's own product, Outlook. Has anyone solved a similar problem with Android? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
Experts, I'm desperate! I gave my lil bro my old phone, but stupid enough of me, I left all of my settings the way it was, also the exchange settings with work. He logged on with msn and synced all his contacts, agenda, tasks etc with my contacts etc. And now I lost everything! How can I do a roll back?
Old phone is an WM 6.1 HTC touch cruise (phone of my lil bro), the new phone is the HTC HD2 WM 6.5 (my own), don't think this will matter though.
Thanks!

I still have the old outlook.ost file, where I found my 'old' contacts and calendar items. But when I tried to sync it says it need to make contact with the server, but I dont want that! How can I achieve this?
Windows 7 with windows mobile device centre 6.1
Hi,
- disconnect the line to the server, that there is no syncronization
- put the .ost file in the Outlook directory
- start Outlook
- copy inside of the open outlook the folders calender and contacts from the exchange part to the personal part of outlook
- export these two new folders to .pst files
- connect to the exchange server and sycronize
- import the .pst files into the syncronized exhange folders
That's it

LOL idd, I did this just an hour ago and it works ! Tnx for your reply!
Would now be a good time to suggest installing PIMBackup and scheduling a regular backup of PIM data?
Mine does it at 4am and has saved my bacon on more than one occasion. My own fault for trying to maintain OTA synch with more than one source.
hi,
i have a desktop and a laptop and have a couple of folders synced by microsoft live sync. is there an android app to sync some of these folders to the sd-card of my htc desire?
if not, is there an app, that can sync some folders on my desktop to my htc desire on the sd-card. i tryied dropbox, but you can only sync the dropbox folder. if you want to sync a folder outside of it, you have to work with junctions / hard links, that's not what i want to do.
i want to sync my photo folder of the sd-card to my desktop and some folders with excel and word files.
I'm on a Mac, but in my Dropbox prefs, you can define the folder for it to use. If that's the case on your platform, you should be able to set it to the same folder Microsoft Live Sync uses...
