The insertcoin ROM says it is "rooted". Does that mean that by installing the ROM i get rooted? I am already rooted. Does the "rooted" ROM effect my rooted phone after i install the "rooted" ROM?

Hi,
Your rooted state is not affected by installing a rooted ROM.
In fact ,if your phone was not rooted, then you would not be able to install the ROM.

thanks! Since it includes root, does the ROM root my phone along with flashing the ROM? or is it just able to flash on a un-rooted phone?
No... You need to root your phone or have someone root your phone before you flash anything... I rooted and got S-Off on my own phone by watching this 2 part video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sw_mgVHWYo&feature=related
It says its for the Evo 3-D but it does work for the Sensation... Watch it before you actually do it make sure it is something that you feel comfortable in doing

Hi all.
Recently used the LG software to update to the 2.3.3 GB release.
Like we all know, I lost my root.
I found a stock rooted 2.3.3 ROM that I want to use so that I can be rooted again.
Can I "Re-flash" the NVFlash on my non-rooted device?
Will it work to let me flash this new ROM? I've attempted to put NVFlash back onto my device, and it appears that it was successful. I'm nervous about trying to power-down and boot into CWM via NV. Can anyone confirm that this works?

That's how I rooted my G2x after ths update. Just make sure you can boot into recovery then backup, wipe data and install it normally. I was concerned about doing it too, but it worked perfectly normal. I used the 2.3.3 rooted rom. You can find it in the G2x development forum.
Let me know if you any questions.

Hey Donatello,
So, did you use the LG software first, and THEN NVFlash a new ROM?
Or did you just flash a 2.3.3 ROM in the first place?
I'm about to attempt the FIRST of those two. Am I understanding correct that is also what you did?
quick Q but nvflash now roots the device? but no SU is on it, i guess just download that from the market and we're done???
If this is the case I'm so happy cause superoneclick is very buggy to me!

You certainly can, in fact that's one of reccomended steps in getting root back is just reflashing cmw.

That's good, at this point you can safely put any pre-rooted rom you want including the pre-rooted GB 2.3.3 one from xboarders

Here's a very similar thread. You're answer is there.

do i have to Clockwordmod flash it first then root the phone?
Yea, first flash clockworkmod with nvflash and then flash the root zip file from jboxer's thread. Reboot and your stock rom will be rooted.
then i should be able to flash any rom correct

Exactly correct. No need to root first. That zip is for those who want to keep their stock rom and just root it.
If you want to flash another rom, then no need to root first. Just nvflash cwm and flash roms to your heart's content.
so i dont even have to root the phone to flash the rom? i can just nvflash and then flash the rom?

Yes and Yes. If you flash a rooted rom then it will be rooted. CWM runs a mini OS, not the full OS, so rooting is not an issue when you are in CWM. Clockworkmod always runs fully rooted.
I just bought this new HTC One S from T-Mobile for Fathers Day and it says there is a system update available. I notice there is also a lot of bloatware that I would like to remove...
Is it possible to have the best of both worlds?? If so, which should I do first: system update, root, then remove bloatware?
Thanks.
If your rooting u might aswell install a custom Rom I recommend leedroid can't go wrong and when u install that Rom it will ask u what things u want to remove no point rooting and staying on stock Rom
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Install the update before you root the device. Otherwise, you'll end up being forced to remove everything to update.
Of course you install a custom ROM. Then you will need to flash the updated radio and install the 1.84 ROM.
update and then root. I just tried to update after rooting and it won't let me

I want to root my S3 for editing the APN, at this time i dont want to install custom roms etc! so my question was once i root the phone from this thread, i don't have to install a custom stock rom right? i can just use the current rom that comes with the phone and have root access? and also i can just go through step 1 and 2 of the toolkit right? or do i have to install a custom recovery also?
Correct, you can root the phone and do nothing else. It does not require a different ROM,Unlocking or custom recovery.

You can root your phone without having to install a rom or even a custom recovery.

not sure what you mean with your last sentence... but:
in my case the ota deleted my root. but I also recommend to do a factory reset after updating to 4.1 sense 4+, just to be sure that you have a clean jb rom (do titanium backups of your apps you wanna keep).
but you have to be on stock recovery if you want to apply the ota.
after your update you can root your phone again.
applying the ota wont have any effect on flashing a higher / newer custom rom.
you only have to be unlocked and on custom recovery. but you alawys have to flash the boot.img of the custom rom after flashing the custom rom zip.

the rom you want to flash doesnt care about your previous rom, because you wiped your previous rom.
so it really doesnt matter which rom you have before if you want to flash a new rom.
its like.. you have installed windows xp, then format your hdd and install windows 7, windows 7 doesnt take a --- about the old os
recovery and rom are two different parts.
you can stock recovery and custom rom, you can have custom recovery and custom rom, you can have stock recovery and stock rom.. blaaa
