honey-chrome to phone? - General Questions and Answers

I just got an Eee pad tf101, and now do the entirety of my web browsing on the tablet where I used to use my laptop. I became very attached to google's chrome to phone app and extension, but now I use the tablet for all my browsing, is there anything that does the same thing from a tablet to a phone? Mostly I used it for linking pictures to my phone and copying text to my phone's clipboard. Thanks in advice.

Doesn't chrome to phone work on tablets??
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App

You can download the app on the tablet, and if you want to transfer from your PC to your tablet, but I want to go from tablet to phone. I've not seen anything that offers the option to install the chrome to phone extension on the tablet.

I see what your saying, i normally just gmail it to myself, just a suggestion though. Or i use dropbox, to upload it then download it from anything.

I've done both of those from time to time, I was just hoping there was a faster, better way to do it. I'm sure there will be before long, especially after the tablet craze this Christmas

[Q] 11 essential apps for honeycomb?

Has anyone tried any of these apps on the transformer yet? If so, do you agree with the article, or do you have any apps you'd recommend instead?

I've tried all those, apart from the twitter one. Yes, they recommend some decent apps, and it's interesting to read others views on them. At the bottom of my second post HERE I've added a section I believe are 'must have' internationally available apps, with a couple that aren't in that other websites list.

Use moboplayer...very good
dropbox...don't like it at all on the android. On PCs it sync automatically, but on android it's "ondemand" so you might have a file in drop box, but it sits there until you "download it" kinda stupid if you ask me. They assume we are on phone and gives no options to just sync for tablets.
File Manager HD is the best file manager for a tablet, IMO.

Try Feedly, it is supposedly the best news feed/RSS reader app for Honeycomb...
The best twitter app on the tab I'd say was plume it looks better and has bigger Widgets.

Feedly doesn't even have a landscape layout. I like Newsr better.

I would add:
Plex and Screen filter to that list.

Good to know. Actually I prefer it that way on a tablet (mostly because I put much work stuff on dropbox and don't want it taking place on the tablet). They should make an option so one could have it one way or another.
I like SugarSync best, precisely because it just syncs things in the background and documents can be directly edited. I use it with QuickOffice Pro HD, and I can open and save documents directly to SugarSync. For my writing projects, it's great: I can start a document on one machine, save it to Sugarsync, and then pick it up on any other machine seamlessly.
One more suggestion...
Check out the Samurai II game for something to show off your Transformer with.
It looks freakin' amazing.
I disagree with the comic viewer. I prefer Perfect Viewer.
I'm not a big comics reader, but I've enjoyed some of the free comics you can get under the Comixology app.
Comics look awesome on the Transformer!

New Facebook app

Is anyone else not seeing the new Facebook app in the market? Or when you to the online market, it says compatible with TF?

The 1.6? For all the previous excitement it's not very amazing.
It comes up as not compatible with Asus Transformer. (Maybe a tablet version planned at some point?)
I'll probably just Dropbox it and install it anyway.
Yup, they've removed tablet support. It's basically a downgrade, and it wasn't a very good app in the first place. It lacked even basic functionality from the website, such as the ability to ignore posts from "friends" [eg. bands, products, etc.] that you've ignored on the website. There's no mention of that being fixed in this release anyway, so no big loss -- the app's nearly unusable in its current state, as my friends' posts are hidden in a huge wall of advertising from all the pages I'm a fan of (but don't really want to read the ads from).
yes....the FB app sucks.
Try the alternative app written by a member on XDA here...its' called "Friend Me" and it's really nice.

I've been using Friendme and FriendCaster and they work just fine. Though you might as well use the browser based version anyway. For me the only real use of the app is to integrate it with your contact list and to get desktop notifications. None of these apps do this. I'd like to see facebook integration to the level of where HTC Sense is. Love the notifications on my phone and the contact integration. I miss that when not using my phone. But hey, nothing is perfect.
My sole concern with these third-party apps is that it'd be very easy to make one that works just fine, but also phones home with your username and password. There's no way to audit code and confirm it doesn't do so (and even if there was, I'm not a programmer and would have to rely on somebody else's opinion).
That said, for those who are happy to trust such things, it's great that somebody's making options -- Facebook's own one totally sucks.
Attached Facebook 1.6 taken from my phone... works just like the old version on our TF (still lame, but it has notifications lol).
same here I can get to the Download page on the Market, but it wont download at all!! you can access it thru a direct link or qr code
app is better but there's no option to view your friends photo
I find how Developers blacklist certain phones being overused to much. Clearly the Facebook app runs on tablets and works, so why they would blacklist it is beyond me. All it does is limit their users. If it runs and works don't blacklist it is incompatible.
Same thing has happened to Words with Friends -- granted, it doesn't scale perfectly to a tablet screen, but it's passable. Not sure if my installed version will even receive updates, so I just update on my Evo and the BT File Transfer the app over to my TF.

It's being speculated that Facebook blacklisted all honeycomb devices because they will have a tablet version out soon - considering how slow and lame the development has been on the phone version, a tablet version seems very unlikely, but who knows?!

Has anyone noticed that third-party facebook apps, like Friendcaster and FriendMe don't show all the posts that Facebook.com and the official Facebook app do? I was blown away when I visited Facebook.com to see how many posts and pictures were up that never showed on FriendCaster. It's like it blocked 30% of my friends wall messages

Why not just use your browser to get to facebook? The TF is large enough for you to view facebook as if you were using a laptop.

The same reason why we use a gmail app for getting mail, or a twitter app for tweets - apps are more convenient and offer OS integration. Of course, if they only provide some functions of the full site, they are less useful

Pictures have leaked of the tablet version running on WebOS, so I would assume that an Android version wouldn't be too far behind.

Anyone having issues with Asus Webstorage?

I was able to sign up for the one year unlimited storage with Asus Webstorage. I was able to upload over 10gb of files. It worked flawlessly to sync data between my computer, tablet and phone. Then today everything disappeared from my sync folder and I get a message about not being able to access my files when not connected to the internet. I get this messege even when absolutely connected to the internet.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache, etc.
The Asus Webstorage forum is practically worthless as a few people have mentioned a similar issue and a single "staff" member simply replies "contact support". Unfortunately they do not reply to support requests.
Anyone else? Anyone find a fix?
I have an Asus Transformer tablet and galaxy s II phone. I'm suffering the same symptoms on both. But OK on PC.
I've not called anyone yet. Be interested to see if you get a resolution.

for me the same problem here. but when i open recent files it is working. for my phone the same. pc is working ok
Same thing still today. No contact from support. I hope that our data/files are safe...

I stopped using it the moment I figured out that it wasn't as suited to roaming away from internet than Dropbox.

I received a reply from Asus support today... They said they were doing an "upgrade" to the system and that is should be fixed.
Well, its not...
Good work guys!
I agree, time to go back to DropBox!
The price is right for AWS, the problem is the software isn't. Dropbox ain't perfect (I want FreeBSD support!).
AWS for Android is a pretty decent application but it wasn't designed with an offline state in mind. I just found it useless because for example, Dropbox lets me easily open the cached file in other apps, even if I have to use a file manager. It's proven itself in battle when I'm disconnected. AWS, basically told me to chatter with there server and I said go to hell . Can't speak for the non Windows versions but the software for desktops is also lacking enough that I don't really trust this pseudo-out-sourced software. So I never moved any of my stuff out of Dropbox, something I can rely on even if I'm somewhere it'll cost $15/MB data to roam.
There's also other such apps like SurgarSync or w/e it's called (not cross platform enough for me).

Deletes files
I have used it on both my Transformer Prime and my laptop (Windows 7). I discovered the other day that it had deleted half my files for no apparent reason. I simply found them in the recycle bin on my laptop. So make sure you back up your online backup service.

This latest update to Chrome, has greatly improved the performance

Chrome on Android is finally started to act like it's Intel x86 ran cousin with this new update from the PlayStore,
now when I go to sites with menus they actively drop down when I hover above them with keyboard dock mouse. I couldn't get this behavior at all much before.

I noticed this too. Very helpful since I use this tablet for school and I need it to access the desktop site for the school. All the flash documents unfortunately need to be run from Dolphin

Should Chrome stay in CROMI or just be a play store app?

Vote now!
I hate Chrome on mobile. It is next to useless and with it being available on the play store I no longer want to offer it at all in CROMI going forward.
Give me a good reason to keep supporting it otherwise it goes!
As I'm on your side, I will not give you any reason to incorporate it any longer. I sometimes use it, but I'd just as happily use the stock browser (right after install_ or Firefox (which is my current 'standard' browser, if there is anything like that to be found on Android). Most have speed issues, anyway.
Again: I vote for let it out.
EDIT: With Titanium Backup being incorporated into your excellent ROM, one can backup and re-install without needing moile data access anyway, so, as far as I'm concerned, there's a very valid line of reasoning against incorporating anything other than TB.
I personally use Chrome on all my devices- phone, tablet, PC, laptop, etc, and having all of my bookmarks and tabs is really convienent. And also just love how it looks!
Obviously, it doesn't really matter if you include it because you can just download off the play store but it's just one less thing we need to download
Anyways keep up the great work sdbags!

You do know the stock browser also syncs your chrome bookmarks by default on CROMI? Not sure what you mean about tabs?

I think it will sneak into 3.1 (in fact I know it will as its sitting there looking ugly, staring at me right now ) but from then on it will disappear as an install option. I've been using it for the last hour and it is like working in treacle even with Browser2Ram installed. It does render pages nicely but there is no full screen option, typing is extremely laggy and dragging pages around is painful. The stock browser is 10000000% slicker and a pleasure to use in comparison. And it has more options.
Nail
Coffin
Final.
Vote for no chrome.
BTW, I think the tab is that the previous user talking about is the "Bookmarks Toolbar" where all the bookmarks shown on the tool bars, it's nice and convinience, but stills not worth to keep Chrome.
I use Chrome on all my devices for the sync abilities. While other browsers sync, they don't sync as comprehensively as Chrome. I also have 2 chromebooks, where it's the only option I have. Having said that, I can always install it like every other app I install.
Is there anything you tweak for the Chrome install?
The tab sync is that if you have a tab open on one device, you can go to another device and have it open the same tab - very useful when browsing on your phone and then deciding to switch to a larger screen, etc.

Thanks for clarifying. It's still in the next release but as a data app. Going forward it will then be saved and not disturbed.
chrome
I prefer chrome than stock.. I wouldn't mind downloading from the play store.
I prefer using Dolphin over Chrome, Chrome seems to have an issue downloading files Dolphin does it perfect every time because it has its own download app.
Asus Transformer Infinity running CleanRom 3.0.4
Personally, I don't use Chrome. Stock browser works well for me, especially with the tweaks.
I say the smaller the rom size the faster I can download and install it. Stay true to objective of a clean rom and let users add what they need from the Play Store.
I do use the Google apps and a few of the others. TB was giving me issues by not letting me use my upgraded key when installed from the rom so I had to skip it and download it from play store.

Yeah I've noticed that with tibu on the last few updates - I think it does a check. But I am leaving it in due to if you ever do a full wipe it's handy to be able to recover apps especially if you don't have internet available. It saved me a couple of times recently when in Japan.

It does check if the Pro license is legit -- you can sometimes (most of the times) keep it active when you select "Auto-... TiBu settings" or something along those lines from the Preferences. It should automatically carry over the license then, at least until you have an internet connection (that's when the first actual check is made). (I had to move the folder last time, so that no longer worked. That was a definite PITA.)
