Well, received mine today, and... my Nexus One does not fit??? It will not slide far enough over the micro-usb connection.... any of you guys experienced anything like this?
It does not charge now... and there's like 2mm of space left between the bottom of my Nexus One and the holder.. I've used force to some extent, but it just will not slide any further..

I'm new here so I can't post links but go to androidforums.com and search for the thread ProClip Mounting System. In there you'll find a guy (dbpaddler) that has a lot of knowledge about these mounts. He's a re-seller for Brodit I think. Tell him about your problem and maybe he can help.

Sounds very odd. Can you post us a few pictures of what's going on?
See attachment. The micro-usb connector in the holder is about 4.5mm high, but my Nexus One will only slide over it like for 2mm and then it feels like it is blocked by something. I've used force, but no movement whatsoever.
I find it strange too.. I don't see anything odd on the connector, nor on the female connector on my Nexus One. I guess I'll take it back to the store...
How odd. It looks like the connector is slightly left of centre, if you use the trackball to be centre... no jiggling will make it fit?
It may look a bit off-centre due to my photography skills, it looks okay in real life. Jiggling or forcing does not help unfortunately. Of course the connector that came with my Nexus One charger fits nicely, and I don't see any peculiarities when I compare it to the one on the Brodit.
Anyhow, I logged an issue with the webshop that I bought it from and they happen to have a brick-and-mortar store some 50km from here, so I may drop by to demonstrate my problem. Thanks for your help.

Nope, no skin. Going to the store later today to have the holder replaced, they think it may just be a faulty unit. Will keep you all posted.
Well, guess what.... just returned from the store, and the replacement holder that they offered had exactly the same problem. The sales guy was as astonished as I was. Personally he had not sold any of these, since the Nexus One is officially not available yet here in the Netherlands, so demand is minimal, but it makes me wonder if I'm really the only one with this problem, and whether my specific Nexus One could be the problem...
Anyway, he took mine back and I was fully refunded, so kudos for pdashop.nl.
Downside: still no carmount for me.

We (both me and the sales guy in the store) used force and wiggled, but to no avail. Besides, I don't want a holder that needs wiggling in the first place. I want it to fit perfectly. That's why I do not buy a universal holder but a Nexus-specific one.
I got mine and it fits perfect.

Yeah update, just tried and fitted like a glove. must have loosen up
does the charger model charge the phone at 500ma or 1000ma? can someone with one check the settings and see if it says charging usb or ac?

I'm just wondering if anybody was curious enough (and maybe brave enough ) to try tearing down their new Captivate yet? I started, figured out that if you lift in the middle of the battery lock as you pull out, you can slide it a bit further than normal, exposing the remaining two of the six screws on the back of the device.
However, I was unable to separate the back from the front, and gave up because I didn't want to force it and chance breaking my phone. I think there might be another screw underneath the sticker in the battery cavity, but I'm not certain.
Ok, scratch that, there is NOT another screw underneath the sticker. I just peeled it back a little to check. Theres one small hole where it feels like there might be a screw, but its just a hole
I am tempted to press on, I'd like to get some pictures of the internal hardware so that we can figure out what this does or does not have, (FM Radio -> I'm lookin at you!)
It definitely looks to be the same basic PCB structure as the Galaxy S i9000. I just which I could get the back cover off without feeling like I'm going to break my phone.
EDIT: I made a little progress, got the back *mostly* separated from the phone. All but one latch at the top of the phone that appears to be very stubborn. I'm not sure if there's an adhesive there or just a stubborn latch, but I can't get it out.
EDIT 2: Got it!!! Its open now, will post pics of its innards soon..
looking forward to finding out if the fm-radio is possible, was mad after i found out att had disabled it, but if the chip is still there then there's hope

I'm not entirely sure which chip to be looking for, but I've got a few pictures up, the quality may not be enough to work out what chips are or are not present, I'm going to work on getting ahold of a better camera, hopefully tomorrow, to get some clear pictures of the board.

Were you able to locate the internal SD card? Any signs that it may be replaceable for, say, a 32GB? Or is it soldered on?

Hey, was bored so i made this dock out of the samsung galaxy s box, have a go if your feeling creative
See attachments for finished product
GUIDE:
You need:
Knife/scissors (also a screwdriver (thin as possible) is helpfull)
Galaxy s box (and inserts)
Cocktail sticks x2 (dont need if you use a STRONG glue)
Optional:
Coins (to add weight)
tape/glue (if you want a little extra support, not needed though)
Heres a quick guide and some pics to help are in the attachments
!)Get the foam piece that the phone sits in when you first get it
2)Cut holes to allow cables to go through foam and plug into phone
3)Cut the foam side opposite the side that you cut the holes in to.
4)cut corner off the box which has the documentation in it.
5)Stick the bit of foam you cut off the box into the rim of the corner you cut of (the glue used to stick it to the original box should be sufficent so you dont need to add your own)
6)use cocktail sticks cut to make them shorter to attach the back bit you just made to the front.
7)Add coins inside back if you want more weight and stablility (use tape to secure)
8)Done!
This is really cool! I've been looking for a good dock so I can charge and have it plugged to speakers as well. Might make my own with the box too like you did. Very creative! Will need lots of time though. Thanks for posting this!

Maybe I can add some tips. To make the cardboard box more sturdy and water proof. Get some clear polyurethane, add a coat of polyeurethane. It will make it more sturdy, thicker, and water proof.

For warranty claims don't they just send you the phone and you send yours back? I do see where it can make a difference in selling the phone though.

I think DeskHome only launches your Dock App (according to comments), which the Galaxy S does not have. So be careful before buying it, might be useless.

Should charge the phone at least? And it's not impossible to launch your own apps after connecting it... So saying "useless" is a bit of a stretch.

Huh? I was talking about the mentioned application "DeskHome". All it does is start the "docking station" mode of the phone, so it will probably not work with the Galaxy S. That would be a 1 $ waste....
Just download the dock app using My Market app. Set it to T-mobile.

My friend says that the sliding mechanism is a hinge and that if you were to drop it, the screen and keyboard will come apart. I was wondering if this were true. She said that's why she went with the 3G Slide....
that's always a possibility, i suppose, but maybe she's thinking of the g2? i know that there was a lot of talk about the z-hinge and how flimsy and loose it became with normal use.

what kind of hinge is it? i was reading that the hinge was like....you could push each end of the phone and like it would go up. im saying like it could do that. for example, moving it up on the left a little then the right etc.... i dunno if that makes sense....
i know what you're saying. like each side of the hinge would move independently instead of moving together, in tandem. mine wiggles a tiny bit in between lock positions (opened/closed), but there's no reason i can think of to not have it either completely opened or closed. it's sturdy in those positions. it's a pretty solid phone and i'm pretty hard on phones. there's no more reason to be more worried about this particular phone, rather than any other phone, breaking in any way.
I use to have a 3G slide and now have a 4G Slide. The 3G slide is a good phone but very weak. The slide on the 4G Slide is like the 3G Slide but definately more solid.

That one's true. The hinge to my G2 got loose as it got older and now it's a backup phone.

There is a little bit of play to the sliding mechanism, but it feels pretty solid.
If you had any idea how many times a day I slide it in and out - I still stubbornly use the hardware keyboard for all of my terminal work, and slide it in to get the soft keyboard for the / key, then slide it back out to type in more of the command.
You can imagine how often I slide the keyboard in and out on the phone at this point - significantly above average use.
I've had it for just over 5 months, at least half of that time was round-the-clock dev time directly interacting with the device.
HTC makes a good phone - still works great and I haven't noticed any seperation or loosening of the slide mechanism in the time i've been putting it through an elevated level of use.

Any device that is not one solid piece has the potential to split apart if you drop it.
Unless you routinely abuse your device, or just don't care enough to take care of it ... it should not be a concern.
I break an average of one a month flip-phones on my verizon plan...drop it off a roof, into a bucket of paint, gets crushed in my pocket or I just get vent some frustration by smashing it against a wall or something.
( It took me a long time to get to the cell phone thing because I honestly dislike phones. I have incoming calls blocked on my T-Mo plan - which is probably why I still have my doubleshot in one piece - lmao. To me this device is an anywhere computer, I don't do phone calls or text messaging with it. )
But those flip phones are the cheapest ones I can get, no data or anything crazy, just basic talk. If you treat this device like one of those p.o.s. handsets, it won't last long...none of them will.
I recommend a case for it - I use the trident one because it's soft and absorbs shock which further insulates it from problems like we are discussing.
Definitely get insurance on it if you don't already, it's expensive enough to warrant it if you do have to replace it because of an accident.

Blue you should write an app to replace terminal emulator for the mt4gs lol, I dunno how you could possibly deal with that / issue so often.
Anyways. If I dropped this 700 dollar phone and it split in two I would go to tmo and ***** so much that it deserves a free manufacturers warranty. They definitely built this phone very strong and I doubt that this will ever happen unless you take an epic fall and somehow land on the phone with your knee while its open and smash the hell out of it at the perfect angle to snap the hinge or something.
I've dropped this phone many times and its still fine. this phone is heavy duty. And your girlfriend doesn't know what she's talking about. If I threw this phone 50 yards I'm thinking that the hinge would still work, if nothing else did

The g2 on the other hand, I could see this happening. The keyboard would probably open on that phone from the wind resistance on the way to the ground from your hand.

I use "SU File Manager and Terminal". The Terminal Emulator feature in that app works perfectly.

Your friend bought an old piece of junk and either;
a) knows it and doesn't want you to have something better,
b) kind of knows it and is trying to make excuses to herself.
As a matter of fact, the sliding mechanism on the doubleshot (the REAL name of the phone) is rock solid. There are ZERO hinges in it.
The HTC VISION has hinges "z-hinge", and even that.... ROCK SOLID. I have one, its been dropped, its been flung, its been crushed, NOTHING came apart. The opening/closing action on it is the perfect balance between firm and functional.
I have ZERO complaints about either the Vision OR the Doubleshot. The Doubleshot is the GF's phone BTW, I'm not going to upgrade the Vision until there is an actual benefit from doing so.
Don't fret about the doubleshot's SLIDING mechanism -- its VERY solid.

Spoken like someone who doesn't own one. I *do* own one, and I can attest to this being a completely inaccurate account of the hinge operation on the Vision.

Ur right, my brother has it. he actually loaded the g2 keyboard with double sided tape and shut the phone so that it will never open again. His phone along with my friend's g2 would open if it was held from the back of the phone and faced the ground.
Maybe what I should have said was loose, not weak. My friend ended up fixing it by getting a new spring for the phone. He rebuilt it and it works great. The stock spring is usually bad out of the box (g2)

Waaaaah WAAAAAAH WAAAAAH.
I happen to actually own one. No modifications to it outside of the software realm. The spring tension on it is exactly perfect and I would ABSOLUTELY NOT like it if the spring was any harder.
The ENTIRE "problem" with the spring on the VISION (which is not a real problem) is related to most of those people who previously had an HTC DREAM. It had BULLDOZER SPRINGS on the screen, so naturally ANYTHING would seem weaker IN COMPARISON.
In fact, the design of HTC VISION doesn't really even need springs to begin with! GRAVITY will hold it in the proper position. The only way it will "randomly open" is if you INTENTIONALLY hold it wrong to prove a pointless point.

Anyways, not all phones are made the same, maybe your stock spring was on the better side of things.

Ok so I talked to my friend and I saw the sliding mechanism. I don't really know how to explain it...its like a train on tracks. I don't know if I make sense, but its kinda like that. She seemed pretty convinced the sliding mechanism works on a hinge and is really bad. She told me that's why she went with the 3G Slide. But even though she said that, I still REALLY want this phone. So the phone slides, and is not on a hinge?
BTW I know the real name...I just didn't think of using it

The sliding part of the mt4gs is pro. Get it. This phone is 4 times faster than the 3g slide. If the slider on this phone had issues there would be threads about it. And if anyones 4gs ever split in two pieces on a drop, it would have been posted about on the forums, guaranteed. This is a good phone. The feel of the keyboard is not top notch, but its reliable and durable.

So I bought a second hand MT4GS today, but the buttons on the face of the phone don't work - it came rooted, s-off, with some buggy ICS Rom installed. I just installed Bulletproof in the hopes that it was just the other rom causing the issue, but the buttons (home, menu, back, genius) are still non responsive. The corresponding buttons on the qwerty slider work fine.
Any ideas or suggestions? Would it help to try flashing a zip to map those front buttons? Since they don't work in 2 roms, is it something physicial?
I would appreciate any advice you could give me, whether its a certain way to try and remap the keys to force them to work, or a rom that might fix it, or maybe a kernel that would be most compatible with a quick, stable rom with full camera features? I really don't care about being on the bleeding edge or having ICS, I just want a stable, every day use rom.

Almost certainly physical. The flex cable inside has 5 dangly little fingers that go down in that area for the 4 buttons and the track pad. Very easy for that to get gummed up, and not an easy thing to fix (because this phone is kind of a pain to take apart). Still, you can find some videos on YouTube that show how to disassemble the phone. You can try it. Put it back together carefully enough, and those buttons might start working again. (If you're unlucky, you might need a new flex cable.)
OK, do I need anything besides standard precision torx to open this phone up? I haven't really peeked inside, since we only got it a couple hours ago.
Also, I noticed that the home button on the physical keyboard sometimes takes me home, and sometimes selects things, depending on what I'm doing - talk about weird! Either way, it's still better than my ancient and fading G1 I've been stuck using the last couple days.
So if I open it up, do I just want to blast it with canned air, or is that a big no-no? Get a little soft brush and brush around the fingers? Tell it sweet nothings and tuck it in bed?

Aaaand while I was busy typing and researching, my husband is cracking it open like a kid opening a Christmas present - wish him luck!
Bah humbug, just a note to let you know that we got to the 8 screws that hold the keyboard to the sliding part, and 2 of the phillips screws are stripped. So we're putting it back together until tomorrow night, when we will try to figure out how to get those 2 screws out.
But hey, at least we took it almost all the way apart, and got it back together, and it is working as well as it was before - if we didn't totally break it, then we're still ahead of the game!
So now I'm looking for advice on the following:
1) best way to clean out those button flex cables (air, small brush, ?)
2) ways to keep this phone clean inside - previous owner must have worked in a dust bunny factory, based on the dust I found inside the half of the phone we got disassembled. Then again, I live in a desert, it's to be expected?
3) super-stable rom/kernel combo that also gives me the camera app goodness that this phone deserves (And be honest, if I need stock to get the camera working, I'll go to stock).

Compressed air or a small brush should work fine... If it is just a connectivity problem caused by dust or dirt or whatever.

2) ways to keep this phone clean inside - previous owner must have worked in a dust bunny factory, based on the dust I found inside the half of the phone we got disassembled. Then again, I live in a desert, it's to be expected?

The only way to really keep it clean on the inside is to take it apart and use some compressed air or a small brush to get rid of all the dust... Doesn't matter where you are located you are gonna get dust inside of a phone that has no dust covers... You can see if they make any cases that have dust caps for the ports (I'm not sure if there are any for the MT4GS or not... haven't looked...)

For the awesome sense camera I would recommend stock or if you want ICS then one of the Virtuous roms. Either Primmadonna (ICS+ Sense 4.0) or Inquisition (desensed with sense camera). I'm sure others have other opinions, but those are the only roms I have used... Well that and CM9 which is basically fully functional although it will never have the sense camera, but the AOSP camera isn't too bad. They are all super stable as well.
Those 8 little screws are easy to strip. They are only a couple of turns each, but if they don't budge ... well, I've got a broken phone just like that that I can't fix. If you figure out a way of drilling the out or whatever, I'd be interested to hear.
The dust in these phones is a well-known problem. In particular, dust can find it's way under the glass, and it's a complete teardown to clear that out.
Were the screws stripped when you got there, or did you do it? If someone had the phone apart before, it could be that the little flex cable fingers are just not in the right position. If that's the case, you just have to do it right. (Easier said than done since it's kind of tricky to work on it and keep everything positioned while you close it up.)
Those 2 screws were stripped when we opened it - we've tried a couple things and still haven't been able to get them out, but we haven't tried the trick of dabbing superglue on a screwdriver and letting it dry in the hole yet, and we haven't tried one of those screw extractors that is like an extra sharp screwdriver. We tried cutting a new slot with my dremel, but the cutting discs I have are too soft for the screw heads, we need a diamond cutting disc, I think. We also tried one of those drill chucks that has the 2 ends for reaming a new hole and unscrewing, but my husband is afraid to drill through the phone, and the chuck doesn't fit in my dremel.
I'm pretty sure whoever had the phone before me tried to fix it and gave up, that's why we were able to buy it off him for so cheap. I don't mind fiddling around with it, since the actual phone bit works just fine.
If I ever manage to get these stripped screws out, I'll let you know what works!
Those screws are definitely short in length, as you've seen from their companions, so I am also leery of drilling a millimeter too far.
Another thing I've contemplated is carving the plastic around the screw head so that the screw no longer holds anything in place. Haven't been bold enough to try it, though. I figure after that I would be able to get a grip on it with needlenose pliers and twist them out.
((My phone with the stuck screws is a water damaged phone that I bought used. [[Seller said "I don't know what happened to it", but, uh, it's a bit obvious once you look inside or even look at the sticker.]] Screen was flaky and I was going to take it apart and stare at it til I ran into those stuck (and rusty!) screws. Luckily, after a few days delay for head-scratching, the screen started working perfectly. I like to think of it as the Universe finally giving me a break.))
Would a cell phone repair place have better ways of getting those stripped screws out? My husband said I should find out what they would charge to open it up, but if I can't get the screws out, how would they do it?
And it's nice that your soggy-phone decided to start working for you, it's a pain dealing with wet phones, sometimes. My neighbor dropped hers in a big cup of soda once and I got to have futo leaning it out to help prevent sugar/corrosion issues. I only managed to keep it working for another 3 months, but by then she had already dropped it into a toilet.

For wet phone the best thing you can do is to use milliQ water (distilled will do also), put the phone in it, it basically removes any ions from previous fluids (take the battery out!), then let it dry out (24h should do), please battery in and use... Worked for me few times...
Btw. Good rom is virtuous inquisition or Primadonna, cm9 did not work for me so good, too many unfinished things...
