MobileDock Version: Not available. - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I just bought my Asus 32GB about 2 or 3 weeks ago and everythings been perfect with the tablet. Today I went to buy the keyboard and when I tried plugging it in when charging it for a while it would charge the tablet but the keyboard itself or the touchpad would not work. I returned it thinking it was the keyboard and the same happened with the 2nd one. I noticed just a few people reporting the same problem having said the same about the MobileDock Version.
I believe that if there is a way of forcing and install of the mobiledock the dock will work but I am not sure how to do that or if any other solution had been tested.
Thank you very much,
zyLt

I guess nobody has ever had this problem here? Can anyone at least tell me if I am right and the MobileDock version should be installed in the Tab or the dock?

charge both to 100% make sure you are connected to solid wifi go to system settings and hit check for update that should fx it

Well I went back to best buy and after talking to some guy in the geek squad we found out my keyboard was working perfect on the transformer they had on display and i was lucky enough to get a replacement right away even after my warranty for best buy was expired. Also I got to figure out that the MobilDock Version is isntalled inside the keyboard not the tablet
I guess thiss thread can be closed.
My best tip for anyone having this problem is to replace their tablets. I tried to find a fix for 1 week and found nothing online and nobody would say anything. Not even asus costumer service.
thank you very much

[Q] TF101 Audio Jack Issues

Hey there all. Just got my Transformer last Thursday and it's now running on the leaked 3.1 Honeycomb update. My TF is still rooted as well, as per a modified version over at the Transformer Development sub-forum.
Anyways, I have a big question regarding the 3.5mm audio jack of the device. Back when it was pure stock, it was working fine and audio playback was good. However, ever since I've rooted it and installed new ROMs its output has been drastically reduced to mere static and slurred sounds. Any ideas on what process within the rooting/flashing has gone wrong? I've already done these methods but so far, no luck:
- Rebooting the Transformer
- Hard reset via 10-second Power button + Volume Down button
I have yet to do a full cache and data wipe, and those are my last resort. I have a backup though in case it still won't work. It would be disappointing if this is a problem of the hardware itself, meaning I have to return the device which is kinda a no-go for me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
I had this same problem, though it wasn't related to root or anything else. The first time I used headphones at all, the quality was just awful. I restored back to factory settings and had the same issue.
ASUS ended up replacing it for me altogether.

So it's a possible hardware issue? I'll try a factory reset tomorrow morning after a NAND backup. If this fails, maybe I'll have to RMA it. So did you contact the supplier or ASUS directly? I'd rather not have it shipped, but whatever.
same problem here asus wants me to send them my 10 day old tablet for 2 weeks!! screw them. ive been waiting for a supervisor to call me back for 3 days now... It seems to work on and off after a couple reboots its fine then it doesn't work im am pretty mad because I use the tf as my car audio system
Well, did a factory reset and the problem is still there. I'm kinda bummered I may have to contact ASUS support for this; I hope the RMA process will be quick and hassle-free.
If anyone still has ideas on how to fix this, just let me know. I really don't want to return my Transformer but for this hardware problem it's not easy to ignore. It could be the issue with the 3.5mm contacts, or that the jacks aren't reaching the socket deep enough to secure a stable transmission.
Both of you guys want to keep the following in mind if you just bought it brand new as I suffered the exact same situation.
Being within the first 30 days of purchase, you are of course entitled to exchange the device where you purchased it...provided they have any in stock to exchange for you.
So! The way I justified it to myself was this: I can either wait until the retailer has another one to attempt an exchange, having to wait who-knows how long, OR, I can contact ASUS and have them repair it. It took about a week and a half, and they ended up replacing it with a new, sealed one anyway.
Yeah it sucks, but it's worth it, and you're not fighting the crowd of other people trying to buy one and potentially taking it out of the hands of people who haven't been able to grab one yet.
I have the option to either exchange the Transformer at Best Buy (they still have stocks online) or send the unit for RMA from ASUS. I'm gonna go for Best Buy since it's the easiest option so far; however, if they somehow won't take it back or it will take some time, I'll have a shot at an RMA as a fallback option.
If you do have to go the RMA route, be sure to let them know everything you did to troubleshoot the issue. I failed to mention I factory reset the device and was delayed my RMA# by another 48 hours because they suggested I try that first. Their next response had the RMA# and instructions. Good luck.

[Q] Transformer Keyboard Dock Issue

So I bought finally bought an ASUS Transformer 16GB and the keyboard dock last week. I wanted to see how the device functioned unrooted, so everything is still running as stock. Needless to say, I have loved every part of the device, but I have lately experienced an issue.
So far the issue seems to manifest under as either of two conditions. One condition is if I have the tablet disconnected from the dock then connect it to the dock, the tablet screen cuts off and is unresponsive. This doesn't occur every time I dock the tablet, but maybe 50%. The second issue is that sometimes when I have had the tablet docked and unused for an amount of time it will display also cuts out and is unresponsive.
For each condition I have had to hold the power button down for around 20-30 seconds in order for the tablet to reboot, which works both docked and not docked. Afterward the tablet seems to work fine in or out of the dock until either of the above conditions are met again.
I called ASUS tonight and they suggested that I return the device for RMA, but I don't want to rush into an RMA since the tablet and keyboard still have about 6 days left on a full refund from Best Buy. ASUS customer service, as crappy as they can be sometimes, said that if the issue persists they wouldn't be able to provide a refund at all, that much was expected. Also that they would only replace the unit with a refurbished unit instead of a new one.
I am heavily leaning towards simply taking the Tablet and Keyboard Dock back to Best Buy for a full refund, but I wanted to consult with this community first. I have searched some of the forums for issues similar to this, but only really saw the already addressed issue with the keyboard battery, which is different from my issue.
Has anyone else here experienced a similar issue with the tablet and keyboard dock before? Is there a solution for the issue that I am ignorant to? I am probably going to return both items to Best Buy on Monday, but if you guys (and gals) were in my position what would you do?
Definitely, positively, absolutely return it back to Bestbuy. It's a nightmare to deal with RMA, all the avoidable waiting for the very least, shipping fee, unfixed issues, being put on hold... I would avoid RMA in every possible way.
Without hesitation, get it back to Best Buy. Even if you didn't mind the stories of dreadful RMA reports, the fact that your 20 day old TF101 would be replaced by a refurbished unit should tell you to run away.

It should be said that my experiencing with RMA'ing my dock for the battery drain fix was as smooth as butter and very, very swift.
It does seem that most of the RMA issues are with Asus in the US, rather than elsewhere (e.g. the EU). Of course, that doesn't help you in the US, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Auto Rotate - G-Sensor Problem

Hi All
Been following the site for some time but never posted.
Brought a HTC One X and generally happy with it, obviously battery life is a problem but having a cable in my laptop bag solves that usually.
The problem I've got are that my auto rotate doesn't work, I've looked on various websites and have found a guide that recommends rebooting to safe mode and then completing a G-sensor calibrate. This worked once or twice but now doesn't work at all. I've spoken to Three who I bought the phone through and they are willing to try and repair it but not replace it as I'm 5 days past the 28 day condition in their contract.
In addition to this I have a problem that I use the phone as my sat nav in the car. Using a car charger I'm unable to use Co-Pilot for long periods of time as the phone doesn't take seem to take enough charge and actually loses power while on charge.
This seems like a major thing to me and I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience in replacing their phone based on this. I used to own a Asus Transformer Prime which had an issue with the GPS and under uk law (this was found on the asus online blog) as it didn't fulfil what it was designed for I could get a full refund which I did.
To sum up:
Has anyone got a soloution to the auto rotate problem?
Has anyone replaced their phone with three AFTER the 28 day clause in the contract.
Look forward to any replies.
Thanks
Ian
If you bought it from AT&T you can just call the warranty replacement dept and have them send you a refurb. Or if you're not satisfied with that, you can send it to HTC and have them repair it under the 1 yr warranty.

When is Asus going to start doing some QC

Well after a week and a half of owning the TF700 (CG 32gb - C7 serial), I returned mine today to BB I got it the day before I left on a cruise. Did not have a lot of time to play with it before I left (knew I wouldn't have wifi on the ship) so first thing I did was get .26 update on it, then loaded a few ebook, readers and games, and a few movies. I had it in Airplane mode for the trip. Right away I had problems with freezing, but the biggest issue is the touchscreen would sometimes be completely unresponsive, and then other times worked great. But more often then not it didn't work, and I couldn't even turn pages in the few books I loaded. Also had bad light bleed. Gave up after 2 days of frustration and used my wifes Nexus 7 the rest of the trip, which worked great. Funny thing is my daughter has an original Transformer and she even said my tablet sucked.
So when I got back this week, I did a factory reset, but it didn't solve the issues. Since the Nexus 7 is also an Asus device, it made me start to wonder what the difference in QC is on these 2 devices. I thought about playng the exchange game, but then felt betrayed by Asus. Even though JB will help the device, it should work fine with ICS. We shouldn't have to swap these units like this to hopefully get a "a good one". Also remembered the Prime, which I returned after a week due to similar freezing issues. Wonder what the Asus financial department calculates as far as return rate and costs.
I really want to love the device but sick of how we all have accepted the fact that you need to exchange multiple units as standard procedure. This is the reason why Asus will never come close to Apple even if their hardware is more feature rich.
Almost tempted to get a Nexus 7 but really want a 10" tablet and need the keyboard option. I guess I am going to sit on the sidelines another few months and try agan when all the Windows 8 tablets come out.
Why can't Asus step up their QC on their tablets?

I feel your pain. Same exact thing happened to me, my kids told me it sucks, randomly app FC, screen freeze etc.. So I tried couple different things attempt to improve the performance , I don't want to use custom rom yet. And now my tab is running much better. Here what I did, 1. forced 2D rendering, root the tab and installed browser2ram, installed Setcpu(free) and make sure I/O scheduler set to cfq and governor set to interactive. Now my tab is running pretty good, no more freeze/FC and browser is fast (Boat browser with flash set to on demand). Netflix is working well too. On another note, rooting is very simple and safe and you still can receive OTA Jb, but I wouldn't recommend unlock bootloader.

Would you buy your TF700 again?

With all the warranty and alleged issues would you buy one again on sale or is there a different tablet you would get this times? Being 6'11, I need a 10 inch tablet but I'm on the fence but it seems like the safest bet and I didn't feel like risking the "China special".

Actually, I would indeed. However, the TF700 stock is blah, you have to unlock the tablet to unleash its true potential. With ROMS like CyanogenMod and CromiX it makes it faster than a stock Nexus 7. But since it is about a year old It may be work to wait.

Thanks, took the plunge it was hard not to at >300.
I would buy it again without hesitation.
The combo with the dock and CromiX is still atm unbeatable.
On travel with 15hrs batt time watching full hd movies, do 90% on it what I do on my laptop, the microsdcard, the sdcard in the dock, the usb slot, no other combo is available atm that can beat that. Period.
Is there more to say?

Congrats! Hope you can also find a great deal for the dock. From a productivity perspective, I would also buy it again-the keyboard and extra battery definitely puts the tablet above the rest in my opinion. From a multimedia perspective, I may have given more serious thought to Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 - I've heard it runs fairly smooth and having speakers in the front is a nice feature.
In a heartbeat.

It really doesn't. I have a GT2 10.1, too, and it's utter rubbish. Sluggish, blurry, lags an awful lot... My TF700 on stock runs laps around the GT2 10.1.

Probably not. While I haven't unlocked it yet, I did root it and for a while everything was great. Then ASUS pushed an update last December, I think, and from then on the tablet became the most frustrating I've ever used. Incredible lag (3 - 5 seconds for the menu to come up after tapping the lower right corner!!!) and other flaky behavior -- like root suddenly stopped working without my doing anything ... Voodoo showed it still rooted, but superuser was completely nonfunctional. Three reboots later root is working again (?!) and it's just back to being laggy.
I'll never buy another ASUS tablet again if they paid me.

P.S. I suppose I should unlock it and install a custom ROM one of these days ...

Truthfully have you tried a factory reset and such? I am unlocked but did install the stock 4.2.1 and I felt it ran really well, compared to 4.1.1 anyways, which is what was pushed in December. If you had your tablet for 10 months, or already unlocked but having flashed CromiX, you should definitely do so .
Also I agree with another posted above even though I already commented once . Today I was flashing files, modding, for about 7 hours straight. I didnt have dock on but I had it with me. When the tablet hit about 30%, I put the dock on to recharge that battery. By the time the dock was at 0%, the tablet was back at 75% Now, if you can get 7 hours on 70%, with dock adding back up to 3/4 battery, its an easy 12-14 hours of tablet. I doubt any tablet out there can do that . A friend had a HTC phone, forget exact version. He was playing it for maybe 3 hours and his phone was already half way dead, and he didnt have a backup battery either .

Unlock and all your problems will disappear. It's weird to think a third party can advance a tab better than the company's own developers, but they can tenfold.
No.
And I shouldn't have to massage it into acceptable working order by violating the warranty.

A warranty that only fixes hardware issues, not software. The only way to actually get an acceptable ROM, to me anyways, is to unlock. I personally think 4.2.1 fresh runs great, however it is bloated, and the stock kernel could use some of _That's tweaking to make it acceptable, again personal opinion. And sbdags or dasunsrules, dont know if I spelled correct, will treat help you much more then ASUS will ever software wise.

It is what it is. If you're unhappy with it, you have three options: Take it back, keep it and endlessly complain about it, or flash a tweaked rom.
It does seem a wierd place to complain about it though, on forums where people have found the solution for all of us. People who have risked their warranties also for the benefit of everyone.. just saying.

After 1 or two months of use,if a problem doesnt occur, then more then likely no hardware problem will occur. If something happens, like a screen breaking, they will still place the blame on you. It is only a warranty from defects, not accidental use. So I dont even see the use after a couple months. Truthfully my screen has defects in it, but I live with it. It is not a HUGE dual and can only see it when the screen is off. So it dont actually effect the use of it while you are using it, so no sense in sending it in, and I unlocked knowing the defect, but it is a minor one. The bigger defect was the software ROM on it, but that is fixed .

Yes.
The ASUS TF700T worked fine out-of-the-box, but lagged with the stock ROM. Unlocking it and installing CleanROM Inheritance was the best thing I ever did.
There are two things that I wish it had out-of-the box. The first is a USB port and the second is a version with cellular data services.
I have the USB port adapter and love the fact that ASUS made it a powered USB port adapter, but having a true USB port would have been preferable.
There are times when I wish that I had cellular data services on it, in addition to WiFi. Most phones today have the ability to act as a hotspot, so it's not a big deal, but it would have been more convenient.
Yes. I've used it for university and the dock combo meant I've typed all my notes on ever note. I used it stock for 5 months and even then it was okay. Recently since the latest jb it got slower and so I got the bug for flashing customs. Never looked back since. Performance is amazing. Is quick, snappy, access apps quickly. Annoying it took to now to realise it but glad I did.
At the end of the day you use a tablet to use noted to look at. I'd rather get my moneys worth out of it than barely use it as its buggy etc.
If if breaks it breaks which I hope to god it doesn't. But already I used it and wasnt frustrated with it.
I love it. Which there were more accessories I.e a real smart cover but still love it. Tried the Samsung 10.2 and was awful compared. Resolution was horrid.
I'm sat in car on a long drive with this tethered to my phone loving life.
Just enjoy it. Use it.

hell the F*ck No!
Should have bought a Ultra Book and a Kindle HD.
This thing cost me $750 with the keyboard.
and I prefer to use my ICS phone that's almost 2 yrs old for just about anything I can do with the tablet except videos.
It's totally laggy, and unusable if a app is updating in the background. Some websites take 30+ sec to load.
I've had more random reboots with this tablet then I've had in my entire life with Windows, and I go back to Win 3.1!
My take is: Asus is great at offering features and design, but they suck on execution for anything other than motherboards.
While I enjoy my tablet greatly I'm not sure I would recommend it. I'm one of the small number of people who for whatever reason, their tablets are unable to unlock using the unlocking tool. This renders me unable to experience what others are saying concerning flashing better roms to really make the tablet perform. I also can't get OTAs or user the device tracker. It's currently shipping back from RMA to fix some light bleed on the screen and the issue with the tablet being unable to get OTAs/device tracker to work. I just called and the service rep said the screen was replaced with a new one and all tests they ran on the system came back fine. He couldn't say if the main problem that concerned me of the tablet not communicating with the Asus servers was fixed but there should be a detailed report of what was done. If the unlock tool doesn't work fine, but the tablet should be able to receive any updates Asus releases from the moment it's turned on after purchase. I was fine running the stock rom with any bloatware turned off. Coming from the Prime, it is a smooth user experience for me. My day is not ruined if it takes an extra 3 seconds to open an application.
With the dock this tablet is truly remarkable. The extra battery and being able to type takes the device beyond other tablets in usage. Sure anyone can get a blue tooth keyboard but that is only going to drain the battery faster. It also has the usb port and full size sd-card slot. The screen is really nice and even though I have a anti-glare protector which does subtract from it's clear picture, it's still great.
The reason I wouldn't recommend it is the price and lack of support from some of the big game developers. This is supposed to be a top notch portable multimedia experience and with the gpu in it we shouldn't be stuck running games which are not fully using the hardware. Look around the forums as there are ways to side load the games on to the system but that doesn't mean they will all function properly. Concerning price, a person will end up dropping about $650-700 bucks after tax for the tablet dock combo. If I were to be buying a tablet again and what I've told two coworkers, I'd go for the TF300 line. Sure the screen is not as good but the tablet/dock combo comes out to about $500. Or I would hold out and see what summer tablets are lined up. So far I'm actually not impressed with what the manufactures have out now. I'm interested in seeing what Samsung's new Exynos processors can do in a tablet.
Enjoying my tab, arrived overnight refurbed for $291 pristene condition. Unfortunately it came updated and is on 4.2.1 the kernels 3.1.10, would of like to of tried it before the update and I believe the unlocking options are easier (still confirming). More testing to do before I can unlock what are the most popular\necessary tweaks?
