[Q] Random Shutoffs - T-Mobile LG G2x

Anyone else have issues with random shutoffs? I would lay the phone down and come back later seeing that the phone is off. The first few times was OK with me, but now I feel like I have to check to see if my phone is on every chance I have. It doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes I would go days without it occurring. Other times it would happen once or twice a day.
I have latest Weapon with Faux 123 kernal.

Just a problem with the phone. Lg knowd this just havent fixed it.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App

So do they know what's causing it to happen? Is there anyway that we can log events so that we can get an idea of what's happening just before the shutoff?

Happens to me occasionally with CM7 stable. Mostly at night on the charger, which is annoying since my phone is my alarm, but it has happened a couple times during the day.

This was happening to me on rooted stock but I switched to weapon 2.8 a couple days ago and it's been better. It may just have needed to be wiped but who knows. I'm still using my clock radio alarm due to paranoia for a few more days lol.

Yea they know. I belive its a hardware or driver problem. You can search this board n there is a post about lg stop tmobile from exchanging the lg due to this problem n a few others.
I had my phone shut down an reboot a few times now. Maybe 5-6 times. Had the phone since oct n been on stock rooted gb since .

Random Captivate Shutdowns Fixed!

I was having problems with every custom ROM on my captivate randomly shutting down, I had to use Captivate Keepalive to keep it running. I was using AXURA before, then a friend referred me to PR 3.5 and I switched. My shutdowns actually increased! I was thinking that I was going to have to go back to vanilla when I saw a post mentioning similar problems, and though that it might help me too. I installed the kernel, and I haven't had a shutdown in 4 days so far! So for me, Phoenix Rising 3.5 + Glitterballs' kernel is rock-solid.
I was pointed Here.
As strange as it sounds different kernels give me different results too. Some make my phone do Random Shutdowns and others are stable as can be.
I noticed that to, different rom/kernels would effect random shutdowns it seems. Then I spent 10 minutes on the phone with att (literally 10 minutes) and they sent me a new phone next day for $2 and I can run anything I want with zero shutdowns.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
Then this and the fact that AT&T are replacing certain build and batch of phone with the shut down issue seems to point to bad RAMs. With different ROMs and Kernals, managing different apps and services and loading different parts of kernel and page swap of the RAM probably caused the shutdown. Sort of like the BSOD for windows when things go wrong with stuff in the memory. So it sounds like the AT&T shut down replacement are replacing a bad batch of RAMs. Just a thought.

The official fix is sending it in to Samsung and having them replace the TIB board on your Captivate. Flashing various ROMs is YMMV and definitely not a real fix.
I cant bare this any more
my phone shut down randomly at least 3 times a day. I almost missed my class today. I am not charging it, battery is 60% full. fu-ck Samsung and att.

Speedmod K12O kernel works wonders! No more shutdowns!
alled samsung today and requested manager, this did not help. I asked about random shut downs and was told they know nothing about this issue.
I was asked to send in phone to be be checked but told these ingnorant people that this will not work. Who is going to pay for service which i am not using during downtime. Class Action , this is what we need.

it amazes me that there isn't already a class action law suit against Samsung.. I don't understand how they can keep producing all these phones with faulty hardware.. first there was the GPS not working then the Vibrants on Bell had faulty RAM.. now the Captivates are randomly shutting down and even the Nexus S has random reboots.. is it too much to ask to make a phone that actually works as expected?
My Captivate's random shut down "sleep of death" also disappeared.
There is no shut down with GB kernels (12.28 or 01.04 #47 kernel)
and there was also no automatic shutdown with Speedmod K12 kernels (500MHz)
I was on Darky's 7xx nd 8x ROMS.
I'm using Hamsters 6.3 ROM with Speedmod K12O 500MHz Warm kernel and ZMKP1 modem. There is no shutdows so far. Battery life is excellent.
I must have missed this thread earlier when I posted elsewhere, but I also found that Phoenix 3.0 seems to have fixed my issues.

Yep. My third phone has been shutdown free for over 2 months.
I downloaded load monitor and it hasnt shut down in 5 months, I was shutting down 20 times a day before i downloaded it.
what is monitor can you explaint me i have same shutting down 20 times a day only on miui i don't have such problem

How many of us are getting reboots

I know theres a poll on issues etc and rebooting is mentioned, but I feel it was too early to poll and people could have voted and had a reboot after...
So question is..... has your phone rebooted? Or just fine?
Also if you could mention how long you had it that would be great....
I just want to know exactly who is having reboots and who hasn't..
Not once on its own.

LOTS of reboots
I have had about 20 in two weeks. I am CURRENTLY getting CONTINUOUS reboots.
It had the LG logo and thinking bar, underneath it said "System checking". Now it has rebooted non-stop (6 times so far as I'm typing).
New phone should arrive on my doorstep within the next hour or so... fingers crossed.
once that I know of. No idea why. It just rebooted while on my desk idle.
In the one week I had the phone (preroot), never. Even after rooting it, never.
Haven't had any issues with mine.
Had 3 reboots in 5 days on my old phone. Nothing yet on new one so far. It has been 3 days. I noticed my old phone was alot hotter than this one. Possibly a hardware issue after all.
Guys, try to turn off gps, I did that and I have 0 reboot and 0 shut down today, I had a lot of reboots and phone turning off by itself before that. I'll see what happens when I charge it tonight and I'll let u guys know.

Theres got to be something thats causing it.
results don't look so good..
Hmmm prerooted I had maybe one and some freezing and lag..
rooted no reboots except running eaglesblood rom and experimental kernel with pauls lag apparentky too much going on there. .
If your phone is rebooting constantly don't even waste your time return it for a new unit. The att galaxy s had the same prob and everyone waited for a fix only to find out it was hardware related....if your in the 14 day window don't even waste your time and end up with a refurb

I bought my g2x a day after launch. For a few days, I didn't experience any reboots. After that they starting happening but not too often. Eventually (by yesterday), it was happening more often. Somewhere in that time frame I did a factory reset to try to improve battery life.
I called tmobile support yesterday and they made do another factory reset and not install any apps. It has been 16 hours without a reboot but that doesn't prove anything, really. First, it doesn't necessarily happen every day. Second, without any non-default apps installed, it may not be taxing the device enough. Third, even if it is an app's fault, it may not be directly the apps fault. Am I supposed to run no apps if that turns out to be the problem?
They will be calling back at three and I'm going to try to push them for a replacement. I'm also having reception issues and the battery could certainly last longer.
None here, gps is not turned off

I am on my 5th G2X... with a build date of 4/3/2011 and I have not had a reboot as of yet with GPS turned on. This has also been the best phone out of all those 5, I have a week left and if I experience problems I will be taking it back. As somoene said dont waste your time your better off returning it then waiting for a fix.

I just took it to the store, told them the problems I was having mentioned the reboots, screen bleed, and data connection issues. Told them I was within the 14days and that Customer Care told me to come to the store and try and get a working phone. I wouldnt talk about the reboots as it may not happen in store if you have screen bleed its easier that way cause you can prove that.
Did you buy it in store, online or over the phone?

Reboots still after OTA Update

This is for stock unrooted peeps.
Anyone that has had reboot problems on their thunderbolts, still experiencing them after updating?
Wife's tbolt starting rebooting a couple times a day about a week ago. Did the update friday night and has rebooted twice since then. Thinking it might be hardware related if others have had their reboots fixed.
Probably going to call verizon next time it does this to try and get a replacement.
I've had only one that I've noticed so far, but that makes it less than the 3-4 daily I noticed with the most recent leak prior (mr2.5 thingee)
No reboots for me since the update. Of course Verzion only claimed this OTA would reduce the number of reboots not do away with them. I hope for you that they don't try to pull then when you ask for a new unit.
Start over from scratch do an app backup...uninstall all apps restart phone try favorite app first give couple hours or a day. slowly put apps back on right down time and date each app installed .doing this is a p.i.t.a .....some apps dont play nicely with others ...plus you dont want a p.o.s.reman phone....anyways this might take a couple of days.....sometimes verizon wont shoot from the hip and just replace .. reason i say this for a while 1st thing they do is hard reset phone and start over ...more or less have to prove problem make sure everytime u call have them note the account....lets see 10 imagios 6 collasped buttons 4 bluetooth failures .....fun fun...nothings easy with verizon
Look at it this way you could be stuck with a really start over flashing firmware with a windows phone cause hard reset sucks [email protected]#$

same story -- i'm still getting them occasionally but not as often. I was all excited about the update, but a few hours after it installed I was browsing the web and - bam - reboot. It's like a slap in the face. I've also been having a serious problem with my TB just discharging itself overnight... while plugged into the wall charger. I wake up and it has a completely dead battery which is a major PITA, doubly so because I use it as my alarm clock.
My TB has been up since the update on Friday. It used to reboot multiple times a day. Hope this lasts for me.
I'm stock and unrooted.

I have never had a reboot and I have been rooted since a week after owning the TBolt... I guess just lucky
Haven't had a reboot since memorial day weekend.
Never had a reboot before or after the update....I just bought my Tbolt two weeks ago, maybe they corrected the rebooting issues with the current hardware?? I mean if users are still rebooting after the update maybe its not software...
I've been really really lucky here I guess. I bought my Thunderbolt about a week after it came out and have had maybe 3-4 reboots since then. I have gone through a few roms/kernals/radios but never any issues. It must just be a hit/miss thing with hardware to be honest. Either that or the network, I'm in West Lafayette maybe our network is just far superior
The only gripe I have had is shutdowns, which IMO are more annoying because I can't just turn it back on, I have to pull the battery and wait a couple minutes before putting it back in and then waiting another minute before it responds to the power button to turn it back on again.
All in all I am happy with it compared to all others complaints on reboots. I would rather have a small number of reboots/shutdowns than a refurbished phone with possibly more issues.
I've been rebooting still like CRAZY. Before and after the update. I got on Verizon and received my phone on Thursday. It was rebooting over and over and over... I noticed it happened if I left wifi coverage at work or home. Even after the update, same thing! Rebooting over and over like no tomorrow.
I noticed that with LTE on it would loose connectivity all together until I manually rebooted. If I was on Edge or 3G it would stay up longer. I have since then turned off LTE and it has been fine, but still reboots every few hours.

I have had 1 reboot after having mine for over a month or so now. Been rooted since day 1 and have changed radios multiple times along with ROMs/Kernels. I guess we are both lucky?
Never once had a reboot. Custom rom since day one though. Stock sucks.
On a helpful side though. Always best to do a hard reset after a update. I know its a pain but it is the best solution normally.

Still suffering from random freezes while in standby.. Anyone else?

I updated my phone (flashed stock 2.2 rom, flashed stock recovery, then used LG updater tool, then ran recovery after flashing) to 2.3 on the day v21e was released and from the day after flashing I am still having to do battery pulls as the phone locks while in standby. Am I the only one having this issue or are there others as well? hopefully the official release doesn't have this problem.

I've had lockups since day 1... It's gets me so mad. I have a replacement coming in a few days. I've tried everything... Rooting, unrooting, and the 2.3.3 update didn't fix anything! But one thing which was weird, is that 2 days ago, when I was at Oceanport, NJ Warped Tour, my phone was in my bag. It was about 98 degrees outside, and my phone was really hot... It managed to stay on the entire time... WHICH WAS WEIRD! But I hope my replacement doesn't have an problems.
My dad has a G2X with NO PROBLEM AT ALL. Absolutely NO screenbleeding whatsoever! and he's NEVER had a lockup/reboot!
7/29 EDIT: I received my replacement G2X in the mail yesterday, and it appears that all of my issues are gone!
I think I'm going to wait until the upgraded ones come out and try to do a return for the newest ones.
I am having the same problem. I got a new g2x about 2 months ago. it was perfect. lost it. got a replacement and have had the same issue you are having. after update i still have the same issue. i just leave it on the charger. i set it to not sleep while charging and it will not shut down. as soon as it is unplugged it will shut down.

I did that as well, twice actually, but that didn't fix the issue.
I'm trying an experiment by uninstalling setcpu and juicedefender and just letting the kernel manage my cpu. I expect less overall battery life, but I'm hoping that by eliminating the screen-off profile and constant radio on/off, maybe...just MAYBE it might help with my sleep of death, freezes, and random reboots.
I have sinced changed where screen wont timeout for thirty minutes I did two factory resets since update and still does not work time to return or change the rom.

I had very few random reboot issues before the GB update. Maybe 4 or 5 in the months that I've owned the G2x.
Since the GB update I've had several each day. I've hopped around onto various ROMs to see if one would correct the issue and to date, none have. I'm considering restoring my Froyo nandroid to see if that gets my stability back.

You had a defective unit, software wouldn't fix it. If it was a "kernel" issue. One of the custom kernels on XDA should've fixed it.
My g2x froze all the time while idle. I read a thread once that claimed upping the minimum CPU clockspeed to 312MHz fixed the problem, so I used SetCPU to increase it and it stopped freezing after that. Reboots were another issue though...

[Q] Anyone have success fixing restart issues?

I've had my G2X for about a month, and have been experiencing the common issue where my phone randomly shuts off and the only way to get it to turn back on is to pull the battery.
I've installed the GB update, that didn't fix it. Factory reset didn't help either.
Has anyone successfully fixed this issue on their phone? If so, what'd you do? Is there any chance that rooting my phone would correct the problem?
Sorry if there was a post about this, I couldn't find anything talking about if anyone's been able to fix the problem.
Thanks
yes... the onlyhh way to fix the problem is to root! nvflash clock work mod recovery, then flash eagle blood 2.3.3 rom and it is perfect...
Thanks, this did indeed seems to do the trick. Not a single reboot so far after 2.5 days.

My G2X actually restarted on its own today. It was the first time since the first few days I had the phone over a month-month and a half ago. Wasn't really a big deal, lol. It comes back on.
Have been playing with this phone for 3 days now and haven't had any issues (I did install xboarder's stock rooted version). Minor screen bleed is the only issue.

Finally, someone (dmaniscool) who can say they switched to an xda dev'ed ROM and got rid of the lock ups. I've posted many times asking if anybody ACTUALLY FIXED a problem (specifically the battery pull lock up); I got no responses, and someone finally stated it. Great. Next time my wife's G2x locks up, I'm rooting and putting a ROM on it.
Thank you dmaniscool

Will do, so far so good! I had no experience with rooting, and was able to figure it out looking at the guides available on the forum. It kind of looks intimidating, but it's not actually very difficult.
By restart does everyone mean just shuts down? Mine never restarts, it will just shut off.

Mine did both actually, shut down and restarts. But mostly just shut downs, which required a battery pull to power back on.
My 2 will do both - but I think the "shut-off" is a lock up, because the longer I leave it locked up, the less battery I'll have after I do a battery pull.
8 days of both phones not locking up by doing one restart per day per phone.
Since I raised the minimum CPU speed to 389 from 216, I have far fewer sleeps of death
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.
I've tried every ROM and kernel combination possible and nothing actually fixes these problems for me.
Wow this post was scary at first, I had a thunderbolt and no matter what. RUU, Different ROMS, Stock, Kernels, Radios. Changing all that didn't matter it still turns off constantly and doesn't turn back on till I do it meaning no text or calls, basically same as having a phone on silent all the time without even having the luck chance of pulling it out while ringing.....
I am on miui x.26 (whatever kernal that comes with it) and have over 40 hours of uptime. I haven't had a crash yet, I just manually restart every couple of days because I'm weird like that.
Sent from my LG-P999
Well 6 days into it and I've had a total of 2 shutdowns. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but both times were after being outside when it was ~90 degrees out.
This is still much improved, I used to get 3-4 per day on average.
I'm using Eaglesblood 2.3.3. I'm thinking of trying MIUI because it's so nice looking.
For me I did a battery replacement the first time directly from T-Mobile and the phone continued restarting on me. I was just about to request a replacement phone from T-Mobile until I recently purchased a different brand of battery containing the same specs as the stock battery and to my surprise no overheating and definitely no restarts. I feel that the restarts and lockups are due to faulty batteries shipped out with the phones. I'm suprised no one has mentioned this.

Wow, I told the CostCo kiosk girl I was having lock up problems and I had my grandkids with me. She took my phone and pulled the battery - at the same time my grandson stated he had to go to the bathroom NOW. She either looked at the battery or something on the phone under the battery. I didn't have time to ask. She didn't really comment and gave me my phone back.
Hmmmmmm........

ok so do they know what exactly is causing the shut downs or reboot on this phone? i just got mine today and it was pre installed with gingerbread and idk if there is root for the gingerbread build yet. i just want root but no custom rom for me. i love the stock rom. it kicked the crap out of my sensation 4g as far as speed goes in everyday use.
