Still suffering from random freezes while in standby.. Anyone else? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I updated my phone (flashed stock 2.2 rom, flashed stock recovery, then used LG updater tool, then ran recovery after flashing) to 2.3 on the day v21e was released and from the day after flashing I am still having to do battery pulls as the phone locks while in standby. Am I the only one having this issue or are there others as well? hopefully the official release doesn't have this problem.

I've had lockups since day 1... It's gets me so mad. I have a replacement coming in a few days. I've tried everything... Rooting, unrooting, and the 2.3.3 update didn't fix anything! But one thing which was weird, is that 2 days ago, when I was at Oceanport, NJ Warped Tour, my phone was in my bag. It was about 98 degrees outside, and my phone was really hot... It managed to stay on the entire time... WHICH WAS WEIRD! But I hope my replacement doesn't have an problems.
My dad has a G2X with NO PROBLEM AT ALL. Absolutely NO screenbleeding whatsoever! and he's NEVER had a lockup/reboot!
7/29 EDIT: I received my replacement G2X in the mail yesterday, and it appears that all of my issues are gone!

I think I'm going to wait until the upgraded ones come out and try to do a return for the newest ones.

I am having the same problem. I got a new g2x about 2 months ago. it was perfect. lost it. got a replacement and have had the same issue you are having. after update i still have the same issue. i just leave it on the charger. i set it to not sleep while charging and it will not shut down. as soon as it is unplugged it will shut down.

I had to wipe my phone and factory reset to make run as it should after to the update

I did that as well, twice actually, but that didn't fix the issue.

I'm trying an experiment by uninstalling setcpu and juicedefender and just letting the kernel manage my cpu. I expect less overall battery life, but I'm hoping that by eliminating the screen-off profile and constant radio on/off, maybe...just MAYBE it might help with my sleep of death, freezes, and random reboots.

I have sinced changed where screen wont timeout for thirty minutes I did two factory resets since update and still does not work time to return or change the rom.

I had very few random reboot issues before the GB update. Maybe 4 or 5 in the months that I've owned the G2x.
Since the GB update I've had several each day. I've hopped around onto various ROMs to see if one would correct the issue and to date, none have. I'm considering restoring my Froyo nandroid to see if that gets my stability back.

Tmo is sending new replacement. Finally got tired of attempts to fix.

You had a defective unit, software wouldn't fix it. If it was a "kernel" issue. One of the custom kernels on XDA should've fixed it.

My g2x froze all the time while idle. I read a thread once that claimed upping the minimum CPU clockspeed to 312MHz fixed the problem, so I used SetCPU to increase it and it stopped freezing after that. Reboots were another issue though...

[Q] Time to speak up

Getting tried of watching my phone reboot. If going back to stock would resolve the issue I would do it. I called big red today and the pinhead I spoke to acted like it was the first time anyone had called about the TB rebooting on it's own. I'm looking at going to a different phone. I really think at this point it is a software issue that they need to correct. Just like with most businesses things are not addressed until they become a problem. So my thought is we should set a date when every one calls in to report their rebooting phones. We do this every week until we get a resolution. Anyone with me?
Wait... You are rooted and getting reboots? Are you on gb? Did you root or install your rom properly? What kernel?
Stock I had no issues. Non-Gb I've had mostly no issues... Some kernels less reliable than others, of course. But to be honest it sounds more like a user issue than a tb issue

Are you near a Verizon store? Verizon is usually very easy to convince that you need your phone replaced. (Although I think they will only replace it with the same model. But I'm not sure.) My Thunderbolt never reboots on its own but I know it is a problem that many Thunderbolts are experiencing, so maybe yours (and many others) is/are defective. I'm 99% sure if you go into a Verizon store and tell them that it randomly reboots all the time, they'll replace it for you.
I reverted back to stock and haven't had a single reboot or loss of data on three days. Just sayin'.

I have read posts where people who are not rooted are getting reboots after they took the update. Have never had an issue with my phone until I took the update. Am going back to stock for a week or so to see if that clears things up.
Funny how VZW is changing their stance on it, almost as if it never has happened. About a month ago I went into a store and they told me that Im not the only one experiencing problems and that there will be a fix within 2 months.
I called VZW tech support and they told me that no one else is having reboots.. . . . I dont get it.
Try flashing your radios, I put both of mine to .6 and the reboots stopped.

Can you specify what you mean when you say "both"? I have been getting reboots too - approximately 1 per day - but is there a process to flash each radio independently?

It is a hardware issue, that's where the few pricked phone came from,my original bolt had the reboot loop on stock but no one seems to want to hear that,it is a series of phones having the trouble and they are or have replaced most of them,as far as most of the other reboot go that is self made misery by not following directions or not reading to find the fix, this bolt I have now has no reboot issues and it has a mat finish to it,the other one and a few I have seen that had issues had a smooth glossy finish.

I would love to think its a hardware issue, but my phone was solid from day one. Then I took the update and get these random reboot.

It is not a hardware issue. It is a problem with the update and how certain phones installed it. Verizon is in the process of making a new update and has been working on it with HTC for a little while now & expect to have it going out this month. For some reason the software does not talk to the towers properly with some models & the hardware does not get the proper info which causes the reboots. Exactly how to tell which phones are affected, I don't know. My friend is trying to find out for me.
I can say that I ran my phone with rooted stock & moved up to the rooted update when it was available which I am still on and I have not had any issues at all besides the low recorded video audio which the update seems to have fixed for me.
My phone is:
Rooted stock & radios w/update
Adrynelynes 4.47 Kernal
I am telling you what HTC said they admit that a certain series is defective hence the snappy replacement. Just cause one Rom works and another doesn't isn't always the Roms fault, ever had a CPU that would run one OS and not another or RAM that worked fine on xp but not win 7 once the defective hard hits its limit it will fail. I have seen hardware work fine overclocked and the exact same hardware crash with half the settings,or a motherboard run suse fine but put Windows on it and it dies a week later. I didn't say they all were defective just one series of them and when they did the update a lot of the phones started to fail and some didn't,so does that tell you hardware or software,if one can run fine and the other fails its either a bad flash or bad hardware. Take your pick

I didn't do the update over the air on my other bolt, I downloaded it from HTC and it killed the phone, but the same download is on this phone and it works just fine, not one reboot, and its still stock and not rooted. The other one was dated Dec
10 and this one is dated Feb 11, I would just about guess they tweaked the update to weed out the bad phones faster, makes sense to me.

I wasn't aware of HTC stating there was some defective hardware. Never saw any references to it. If thats the case then glad they acknowledged it.
It's definitely not a hardware issue. Its a radio/ signal issue. Verizon does know about it, and is working on getting a new update out there. I know this, for a fact.

My TBolt is not rooted and before the update I had no problems at all but after the update the random reboots started. Battery life is acceptable but could be allot better.
Called Verizon yesterday and they acknowledge the problem and actually said HTC is aware of the problem and are working on it but have no expected date as to when it will be fixed. I believe it is definitely is a software issue and will be fixed when the official Gingerbread is released. Just my 2 cents.

[Q] Anyone have success fixing restart issues?

I've had my G2X for about a month, and have been experiencing the common issue where my phone randomly shuts off and the only way to get it to turn back on is to pull the battery.
I've installed the GB update, that didn't fix it. Factory reset didn't help either.
Has anyone successfully fixed this issue on their phone? If so, what'd you do? Is there any chance that rooting my phone would correct the problem?
Sorry if there was a post about this, I couldn't find anything talking about if anyone's been able to fix the problem.
Thanks
yes... the onlyhh way to fix the problem is to root! nvflash clock work mod recovery, then flash eagle blood 2.3.3 rom and it is perfect...
Thanks, this did indeed seems to do the trick. Not a single reboot so far after 2.5 days.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
My G2X actually restarted on its own today. It was the first time since the first few days I had the phone over a month-month and a half ago. Wasn't really a big deal, lol. It comes back on.
Have been playing with this phone for 3 days now and haven't had any issues (I did install xboarder's stock rooted version). Minor screen bleed is the only issue.

Finally, someone (dmaniscool) who can say they switched to an xda dev'ed ROM and got rid of the lock ups. I've posted many times asking if anybody ACTUALLY FIXED a problem (specifically the battery pull lock up); I got no responses, and someone finally stated it. Great. Next time my wife's G2x locks up, I'm rooting and putting a ROM on it.
Thank you dmaniscool

Mine did both actually, shut down and restarts. But mostly just shut downs, which required a battery pull to power back on.
My 2 will do both - but I think the "shut-off" is a lock up, because the longer I leave it locked up, the less battery I'll have after I do a battery pull.
8 days of both phones not locking up by doing one restart per day per phone.
Since I raised the minimum CPU speed to 389 from 216, I have far fewer sleeps of death
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.
I've tried every ROM and kernel combination possible and nothing actually fixes these problems for me.
Wow this post was scary at first, I had a thunderbolt and no matter what. RUU, Different ROMS, Stock, Kernels, Radios. Changing all that didn't matter it still turns off constantly and doesn't turn back on till I do it meaning no text or calls, basically same as having a phone on silent all the time without even having the luck chance of pulling it out while ringing.....
I am on miui x.26 (whatever kernal that comes with it) and have over 40 hours of uptime. I haven't had a crash yet, I just manually restart every couple of days because I'm weird like that.
Sent from my LG-P999
Well 6 days into it and I've had a total of 2 shutdowns. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but both times were after being outside when it was ~90 degrees out.
This is still much improved, I used to get 3-4 per day on average.
I'm using Eaglesblood 2.3.3. I'm thinking of trying MIUI because it's so nice looking.
For me I did a battery replacement the first time directly from T-Mobile and the phone continued restarting on me. I was just about to request a replacement phone from T-Mobile until I recently purchased a different brand of battery containing the same specs as the stock battery and to my surprise no overheating and definitely no restarts. I feel that the restarts and lockups are due to faulty batteries shipped out with the phones. I'm suprised no one has mentioned this.

Wow, I told the CostCo kiosk girl I was having lock up problems and I had my grandkids with me. She took my phone and pulled the battery - at the same time my grandson stated he had to go to the bathroom NOW. She either looked at the battery or something on the phone under the battery. I didn't have time to ask. She didn't really comment and gave me my phone back.
Hmmmmmm........

ok so do they know what exactly is causing the shut downs or reboot on this phone? i just got mine today and it was pre installed with gingerbread and idk if there is root for the gingerbread build yet. i just want root but no custom rom for me. i love the stock rom. it kicked the crap out of my sensation 4g as far as speed goes in everyday use.

[Q] How are your reboot issues?

I didn't have any when I first got my phone, right at release. About 2 weeks in I started to get the freezing/reboot issue occasionally. It went away for a time when I started modding my phone with ROMs. I'm currently running Weapon G2X, and for a time had no reboot issues. Now, about 3-4 weeks into using that rom, they are becoming a problem. My G2X now seems to reboot once every couple of days or so, normally when I'm using the phone. I'll be in messaging, hit back, then it locks up and reboots on me.
How are your issues? Still having them or no? I plan to update Weapon sometime in the next couple of weeks, or perhaps give CM7 a go.
Just got mine from CL last week. Have yet to experience a reboot or freeze. Maybe it's just a few batches of G2x's that experience that.
mine hardly ever freezes up to be honest. I am using xboarders tweakd GB rom. But then again, I've never really had an issue where it just reboots itself even before rooting. my phone does sometimes run really slow though.

Really? Slow-ness should definitely not be an issue with this phone. Have you tried Weapon or Cm7?
I've only had one reboot and I had this phone for 5 months. I got a reboot when I was showing my friend. How fast and cool my new phone was. He asked to see it then he pulled down the notification bar and it just rebooted. Other then that one time, never happens.

One freeze and one reboot on a stock rom in a month.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
What reboot issues?
Never had it happen after 5 months of owning the phone.
Stock, rooted, Go launcher ex, SetCPU -> almost no reboots.
Before those steps, quite a few reboots per week.

I've been trough various roms and had the stock froyo in the beginning for quite some time - never had a reboot or a freeze. Only once, I remember, it would not recognize the headphones that I was plugging in and I had to reboot.
I've only had my phone reboot once when messing with SetCPU. Other than that, no reboots. I got my G2x within a week of it coming out and have never exchanged it.
i'm using pure stock so i'm not sure if you want my opinion but i've had the phone for a month now. it was perfect in the beginning with zero issues but up until last week it's been freezing constantly and rebooting. i've had to do three battery pulls and it's rebooted on me three times. and i thought i got lucky with a "perfect" phone i really want to try exchanging it but i'm afraid to get an even worse one and i am not paying 20 bucks to get a refurbished phone that's insane
U should flash newest weapon room, this is great room and will fix reboot bug
I used to get freezing and rebooting all the time several times a day on stock froyo but ever since I started going on nightlies since around #60 I think it was, I rarely have reboots... my wife got the phone on the same exact day and she's still on stock rom with no issues
Running stock since I got it a month ago. No reboot issues. The only freezing issues I have is when I try to use ANY screen capture app. I managed to get one of them to work...once. After that, back to freezing. So as long as I don't use any screen capture apps, I have a smooth working G2x, lol.
I got 2 g2xs. One of them got reboot issues. Called T-Mobile and got replacement and no more complaints. All is good now. Last fewweeks I got flashaholic buy. Flashing different rom every 2days.
Stock Froyo rooted. Used to get SOD freeze and reboots every week. Started daily shutdown/restarts a few months ago - never had either problem since.

Random shutdown, Screen of Death?

Has anyone else came across the screen of death (random shutdown when idle and requires long pressing power to turn back on) with their Galaxy Tab 7+? I have this problem everyday and it seems like other Samsung phones had similiar problems like this one.
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? Supposively it may be a problem with the Wifi or reading the SD card when idle.

I occasionally get reboots, I can hear the sound when its in my pocket. Likely due to set cpu. My min is 500. I hear its related to on demand setting. I may uninstall if it persists.
the SOD issues is a known issue on some units.
While some units have it very frequently others don't.
The one i got from Fry's (and returned) had it.
The 3G version one i got from ipmart.com doesn't have it.
It seems like it may have something to do with the SD card reading. I removed mine and haven't had a problem since.

No I did mine from recovery. Power and the volume button closest to power. Select factory reset. I believe they are slightly different, but I am not positive of that. If that doesn't help, I'd return it if possible and get a different one. Here in the states most return periods have been extended Into January. Good luck.
Another thing you can try is using Odin to flash the retail ROM for the 6210 that is posted in the development section. I have had to do that several times trying to get cwm sorted, that may have fixed it. That's a good way of reloading the code, because I did get the sod several time prior to my first brick. After reloading the code, I forgot the problem even existed. Again good luck

I have had two Tab 7+ from Amazon. Both had the SOD problem. I returned both and now I will either wait until there is a fix from Samsung or will look for another tab.
I got them 2-3 times per day on my first unit...I exchanged it once Best Buy got another in stock and haven't had any issues at all. So yeah...if you're getting the SODs, exchange it if you can.
I had this too! I immediately asked for it to be returned. I didn't spend so much money on a device that randomly shuts down. Sending it back today..
I have only had one random reboot (that I know of). I have, however, had some apps like Marketplace crash on me at least a couple dozen times. I always have to manually reboot to fix it.
Quick update guys, I exchanged it today at Best Buy and just got done updating the firmware through Samsung Kies. We'll see how this one goes; I'll keep everyone posted.

Interesting, Random Reboot 2.3.4

I've flashed v21Y.kdz and have only been rocking it for about 4 days now. Everything is stock including kernel, I don't even have CWM installed but it is rooted. Also before install 21Y I wiped everything using CWM for a fresh start.
The phone was just sitting there, no music or any app was running. I also changed battery in the phone early this morning. I also noticed that yesterday and early today before changing the battery the phone was a bit laggy, but should not be the cause of the reboot because I pulled the battery this morning.
I don't want to keep the stock rom but im loving the new baseband. I'm waiting for cyanogenmod to make a new release to work with the new baseband and then I will make the switch.
Are you using the stock battery?

Yes I am.
I'm just waitting for CM too, this rom is ok but I love CM roms, I think it's more stable for me, I don't know, just hope for a release that it's compatible with the new baseband
Might be a while since most of the roms, besides the 2.3.4 that kwes worked his magic on, are all based on the original July 15 baseband. The groups would have to find reason to update their roms on the July 15 baseband provided that enough users have converted and it proves reliable.

Yeah I've had the update for almost a month now, and I've had a couple of reboots, but it seems to reboot when certain batteries are in the phone. I've got an anker, 2 refurbed stock, a fresh stock, and an extended 3500mah beast. On one of my refurb stock batteries I get reboots, on the anker I haven't experienced any, on the fresh stock no reboot, on the other refurb no reboot, and the 3500mah it will still reboot occasionally.
I haven't done a master reset, which a lot of people are saying will fix some of the problems. Also, sometimes the battery meter will just stay stuck and a percentage and won't go down as the battery is still drained <<< This is temporarily solved by a restart, but I think that would be fixed permanently by a master reset. I also get a dialer is busy error every now and then when a call gets dropped out of nowhere and I try to call back and apologize that I have t-mobile.
Also, just checked out the lg forum and an lg employee wrote some type of da vinci code message >>>>>>> http://support.lgforum.com/lg/topics/g2x_allinone_update

yeah, on one of my batteries I got over 200 hours uptime with no slow down or anything. Supposedly the lg stock battery is just manufactured by sanyo, so when it comes to batteries it seems like a crap shoot to me, but then again, I love rolling dice! Yoooooooooo!
