[DEV] Method to flash odin image/radio without triggering flash counter or using odin - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hello again everybody!
In #skyrocket irc.irondust.net, I've been working with the awesome Kuraijay to get a flashing method going that bypasses odin entirely, letting us flash without the bootloader restrictions (that don't allow you to flash rogers radio to AT&T phone for example)
Well, it works! I'm putting together a package for things now.
Can someone who is on the AT&T OTA 2.3.6 update (rooted) please dump the radio and upload it for me?
Here's how:
boot to CWM
connect usb
open command prompt, adb shell
on the CWM screen, go to mounts and storage -> mount emmc
type:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17 of=/emmc/radio-dump.bin
then type "exit" to leave adb shell when it's done
now:
"adb pull /emmc/radio-dump.bin ."
That should leave you with radio-dump.bin in the current folder, zip that, upload and link please
I currently have a copy of the stock AT&T radio, and the stock Rogers radio. I have confirmed the ability to flash back and forth between versions so now we need to get them together so I can make a nice post explaining how and provide easy CWM zips
This allows flashing back to fully stock without triggering the flash counter or using odin at all. Should be able to provide a CWM zip that works great to flash back to stock!

Much appreciated, romracer
Any chance you could do the same for /system, /cache, /recovery, and /boot?
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p24 of=/emmc/system-dump.bin
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p26 of=/emmc/cache-dump.bin
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/emmc/recovery-dump.bin
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/emmc/boot-dump.bin

Awesome!! Are you going to put out a ATT/Rogers/DoCoMo-Franken-Rocket Rom? Is there any DoCoMo goodies we can use? I'd love to mess around with this! That lockscreen looks pppuuurrrrddddddyy.
Nice work!

Sure, i'm just fixing up some stuffs in the ROM (i had to strip a lot for it to fit in our FS, DoCoMo uses a much larger system partition and has way more stuffs in the ROM)

Just boot to download mode and it'll show you the counter.
I'm at six. Flashing recovery (CWM) with Odin doesn't trip it for me.
But flashing the stock ROM via Odin does trip it.

yes, just like GS2(docomo model SC-02C), have a larger system partition than other GS2 models

What does the counter do? Does it matter? Do you only have a certain number of flashes you are allowed?

This is the type of thing I was working on when I broke my phone! Glad to see a pro working on it. TBH, all I was after was the TRUE network status, but that lockscreen looks pretty sick!
As for the flash counter, I've tried to reset it with a jig but that's a no-go. Hopefully I get it RMA'd anyway!

So then which modem does the tar ball have, EH17? If so, then we just have to flash the EI22 modem, reboot and flash the EL30 modem. Btw, does this tar ball have stock recovery? If so, will we be able to put CWM or ACS Recovery back on EL30?

To get to the EI30 modem, you have to be on EI22. There are separate zip files that will upgrade your modem from that version. See this thread.

No. You need CWM recovery to flash non-official update.zip files. You can get CWM5 here.

[Q] How do i Know Which bootloader i'm on

maybe it's a stupid question... i'm gonna flash the new ICS Room but i dont want to see any rainbow..
actually i'm using ZTR rom... i installed it from froyo stock..
which bootloader i have?..
Suggestion since your not familiar with what your bootloaders are...do some reading...
and since ics is still being in the delivery room not born yet....
Do some homework...
If you flashed the ICS kernel and you are seeing rainbow recovery, then you are on Froyo bootloaders.
What carrier

i've not flashed ICS yet, it's from att.. i'm not familiar with what bootloaders are.. according to some things I've read i know this is what "SAYS" kernel what to load until phone starts.. but when i updated froyo to GB with zeus 6 and then ZTR i did not do anything about bootloader just installed a 3e modded recovery and i could flash it well!! i've even got back to stock froyo using odin
froyo stock to ztr means that you most likely are on froyo bootloaders.
Simply flashing a ROM wont update you bootloaders. The easiest way to update bootloaders is through Qkster's Heimdall from my experience. As far as Roger's goes I believe their stock Bootloaders are GB. I am not 100% sure of this, but I believe that is correct.
Take a pic of what your phone looks like in download mode so I can determine whether or not you have gingerbread bootloaders

either qkster's or AdamOutler's back to stock will install GB bootloaders.
None of the custom ROMs have bootloaders built-in, only kernels, modems and such are built in.
Qkster's Hemidall is the easiest I've found. You need to flash the rom first before the checkbox to install bootloaders is available. Then check the box and flash again.
Use hemidall 1 click back to stock uclb3...tick on "install bootloaders" (if the option cannot be ticked flash the the stock rom anyway but leave the hemidall program window open, ensure the phone is has booted uo completely then go back into download mode and then you should be able to tick it and flash over the stock rom together with gb bootloaders) ..then flash entropy dd to get cwm and root with super one click...

Is it really that bad to see the rainbows? Unlike previous Gingerbread kernels on Froyo bootloaders without the rainbowfix, recovery is semi-usable.
If you get the rainbows, you need to flash. If you don't get the rainbows, you don't need to. Best to check if you need the BLs first.
That said, what you've stated so far makes me think you're probably on Froyo BLs.

Your on froyo boot loaders... just use Odin... flash the uckk4 leak... then the community kernel to get cwm.. sound like yo really don't know what your doing, so using hemidal might not work for you.. the UCKK4 leak will give you boot loaders... then flash jts custom recovery to flash ics....

No that has nothing to do with bootloaders.

Few people have experienced losing there IMEI after flashing. Solution Below.
It is HIGHLY recommended making a backup of your IMEI before flashing anymore roms.
Thanks xMopx
Original Thread Here
Make a backup of your IMEI / MEID / EFS Data in case you need to restore it in the event that it is lost after a flash.
This will put a copy of efs.sbn on the root of your internal sdcard.
From PC
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11 of=/sdcard/efs.sbn
or
From Terminal Emulator
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11 of=/sdcard/efs.sbn
Easy restore if needed.
PC
Code:
adb push efs.sbn /sdcard/efs.sbn
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/efs.sbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11
reboot
Terminal Emulator
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/efs.sbn of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11
reboot
Fix for lost IMEI without a back up.

This thread is for discussion on cm9/cm10 with k-exec. Please provide any issues or success stories.
It appears everything works so far... And it's the quickest rom I've ever used in my life!
Just follow instructions. Very easy.
This is what i did..
1. Copy the d2vzw_recovery.img, cm10 rom, and gapps to the root of the sd card (not the ext-sd card)
2. download and run terminal emulator from google play and run it
3. (This will install the k-exec compatible cwm recovery)
type the following commands
su
dd if=/sdcard/d2vzw_recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 bs=256k
sync
reboot recovery
4. Make a backup of current stock rom using cwm recovery just in case something goes wrong or you dont like it.
5. Wipe data, cache, dalvic cache and install cm10 and gapps reboot.
6. You are now running Jelly Bean
It will bootloop the recovery once on every reboot. This is normal with k- exec
If you don;t like it, or there is a problem, simply reboot to recovery and wipe all. Then restore stock rom backup.

Oh I know there is a CM10 for sprint but after 1 year of really horrible 3g speeds and LTE slowly coming along, I'm kinda getting tired. My wife is a house wife, so she can just use wifi. I on the other hand travel quite a bit and in the military so usually the training sites I go to, I'm always roaming on verizon. Just want that 4G to be able to watch netflix or download a 12mb app that doesn't take 1 hr to download.

Very tempted to give this a try. Right now, I'm just rooted with standard CWM Touch.
Can I use the EZ-Recovery app instead of terminal to install the K-EXEC recovery? In the app, it looks like I can choose a custom recovery file, so as long as I have the file on my sd card, I think it will work? This is the app I'm referring to is at Rootzwiki, but I'm not allowed to post the link until I reach 10 posts. lol The name of the app is "VZW GS3 EZ-Recovery" and it's by mmmeff at Rootzwiki and is in the Play Store.
I'm thinking I should be able to install the kexec cwm from the app, reboot into the new recovery, and then install the cm10 and gapps, right?
Is there anything that isn't working or buggy on this?? Plan on flashing it tomorrow morning, can't wait!!
Before I give this a try, can anyone confirm if Bluetooth is working? Specifically A2DP? I use Bluetooth headphones every night at work to listen to podcasts and music, and I thought I read somewhere that it's not working on this build. Anyone?
I probably know the answer to this. But do we lose s beam and all the gestures capabilities if we move from stock to cm10? I'm guessing yes...

I'm on Verizon 4G LTE in San Diego and I always get super fast speeds. It's funny because my Speed Test speeds are great, it's only the Play Store.
Anyone else? Any ideas?
I downloaded this last night so far everything I'd working nicely. The only thing I noticed that is kind of weird is the vibrate feedback on the keyboard and the buttons at the bottom. Maybe that is how it is suppose to be but it feels different.
I am also having trouble installing swift key 3. Other than that everything is working nicely.

there are lots of modification , including :
1. zipalign
2. deodex
3. 1% battery
4. weaker vibrate
5. SuperSU included
6. Beats Audio
7. Sony Graphic Engine

I can't find the non-modified OTA.
I think it can be flashed in to MB865 phone just like ME865 flashing with MB865-zip.
WARNING 1 : You must have your phone flashed to ICS (mostly by RSD lite) before you flash this rom.
WARNING 2 : The rom may be over-and-wrongly-modified that made some RAM problem. I suggest you wait some clean roms.
P.S. The previous 04-Jul leaked version includes Both English and Chinese interface and I think this one has the same language module.

There were many many leaked versions of the ME865 ICS. This one is modified based on the latest OTA version, distributing from last week for 1000 people only.
Can we use it for MB865 ATT?

I tried to flash the MB865 rom , like those SCV7 roms, into my ME865 as long as it's a CWM flashable rom.
I do think you can make a trial but remember to make a backup and make sure your phone is bootmenu-installed.
*** Your phone must be already updated to any version of ICS ***
flash ?
one question for our DEVs
flashing this is GO or NO GO ?

I haven't seen any confirmation that its fixed or not. Whirleyeyes is on vacation. So hold on until then.

So if we don't have ics e can't get an ics ROM. I hate Motorola, they need to unlock the stupid bootloader already. this is why HTC and Samsung are better. I'm so impatient and have sent motorola emails yelling at them.

There is a way to get an ics ROM onto our Atrix 2 phones. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968
Then you can use SCv7. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648421
ok i flashed this on my indian atrix 2. was using sc7
warning:- try at ur own risk if it did't work or brick ur phone don't blame me
1)backup with boot menu custom recovery
2)wipe data and cache
3)flashed zip and reboot(it will erase bootmenu hijack but dont worry say goodbye to boot menu)
4)after system boots install bootmenu and install hijack again
:good::good:
first impression is very smooth, will reply if found any bug
I was under the impression boot menu couldn't flash large zips. Basically over 100 mb, much less than a rom. Give us a screeny.

it ur choice dont blame me if something goes wrong, actually i am "flasholic" so i try to flash every rom "at my own risk".
Bootmenu can be installed once the rom boot
Sent from my ME865
Just a thought
why not use the system keeper option in boot menu instead of saying goodbye to boot menu
that way if something goes wrong you can still get into recovery
it may work
Sent from my ME865
Please clarify
Can someone lease tell me the prerequisites for this rom..
im seeing many comments to this thread and nothing of substance...
do u have to have some sort of ics leak already installed..
or can u just flash via cwm...
i dont have bootmenu installed..
so please anyone can you clarify this..
and list some sort of step by step....

[ROM] 4.4.2 [LG Stock] Debloated

LG 4.4.2 Stock Rom - Massively debloated, only has a few apps left. All LG features should work. Requires custom recovery. Do not flash AOSP or 4.2.2 kernels.
This includes my new updater script for kitkat so it actually has a /system folder instead of the system.img.
You can find the standalone updater script here. I believe it is the first created, every KK rom I've seen is not editable using a system.img. It took a few hours to create.
The kernel is stock but I made some small adjustments and toolchain fixes.
I have a custom kernel for this up in this forum.
Instructions.
Full wipe besides for internal storage
Flash Kitkat modem here (If you aren't already using it)
Flash Rom here (mirror soon, but not yet since I need to reupload)
Flash SuperSu here
If you get a "symlinks failed" (happens right away if system doesn't mount properly) reboot back into recovery re-wipe and flash again.
You are the man!?!?? I should have never left your lg 4.4 build. Flaked another and paid for it.
Thanks again doc!!

I'd love to try this, but has anyone figured out the issue with torrents not downloading on kitkat?
@dr87 is it OK to use with twrp 2.6.3.5?

It will download if you go to the torrent file using a file explorer like estrongs. I don't know why it doesn't work the way it used to by just opening up after downloading the torrent file but at least your not totally screwed.

Uses a kitkat updater script which I believe works on 2.6.3.5
Looking good so far. One silly thing that I saw missing. I like the weather animation on the lockscreen. Is there a way to add it to this?
To flash this version do you still need the a bootloader or can the g be used now?

you can try it on G just backup first
twrp 6.3 failed had to upgrade to 2.7 for it to flash.
i've tried every single Kitkat rom I have get my hands on, followed the instructions to the letter and if I turn this screen off and turn it back on, its just lines. White lines or colored lines. Every single f*cking kitkat stock rom. I don't get it. i'm ready to throw the thing into the river.
I know its not your rom, and it works flawlessly as long as I don't turn off the screen.

This is probably one of the most confusing issues to me since everyone here has the same device, downgrading to the same exact partitions yet some people have these line issues which makes no sense to me at all. I've been trying to figure it out but its a pretty confusing issue, its not like we have different variants. We can maybe try upgrading tz and rpm partitions since they will work with this bootloader
The only thing complete stock has that this don't is the new partitions and I'm really not sure why it's causing issues for some people
Is anyone else having issues with the radio constantly losing connectivity, or am I the only one?

Running perfect so far!!
Only thing I can't do is connect to visual voicemail..not sure if this is rom related.
And is there any way to get the clock back?
