Yea, what the title says, i saw WP7 at a delicious price and found it really cool, my question is, i am 16, have been working with android for a while and i'd like to try something new, would this fit my needs, i am into social networks and it's got Xbox Live, which a major advantage for me!
Yes, I think it actually pretty good for everyone...
Messaging is awesome as it combines messenger, facebook messaging and sms into a single application.
If you (and your friends/classmates) don't care about handset's popularity, "glamour and prestige", WP7 is right choice for you
P.S. 15-year-old daughter of my friend rejected WP7 'cause it's "not so cute and fashionable as iPhone", and "everyone in school has an iPhone"

Actually, teens here in portugal don't really care about fashionable phones, they stick to the simplest phones, but i might get a WP7 then, it seems reasonable and good for me, so thanks for the replies!
Its absolutely insane how cheap most wp7 devices are . All due to marketing and popularity . I'd get one before they get popular and raise in price .

Hey mate, i think you will love wp7, im 17 myself and i came form WM6.1-6.5.x and i love WP7, only downside is that it is a closed source... but since you are not into that then it will be perfect for you

Yeah, that's true. I've got an HTC Desire with Launcher 7 on it and an HTC HD7. And the only phone I use is the HD7. The WP7 experience is just incredible - it's really smooth and runs fast and everything you need is integrated into the OS.

I think that WP7 is a good choice for everyone. It doesn't matter if you're a teen, an adult or an elderly person. I'd definitely recommend a WP7 device. You can't make anything wrong with it.

Hi All
Been playing with Desire on weekend, and uderstood that WM 6 is totaly out of date, I loved Android from first hour of use it has a lots of programs in Android market with very eyecatching UI. Is there a possibility to have Android on HD2 ? I heard somewhere that in some countrys there is a 4G Android version of HD2.
Are there technical possibilitys for Android in HD2 in the future, or I need thinking of changing my LEO.
Thank for Any opinion

hey next time use the search, from what i gather the soonest release would be in 6 months but its likely that the phone wouldn't be fully functional, for example the wifi or camera might not work some people see a year or so but only time will tell.
Crossed wires
You have been misinformed if you believe WM6.5 is out of date.
It is state of the art and has many benefits, especially when it is underneath the HTC sense interface.

Ok I don't know about state of the art but take a hit of the ROM in my signature. And to MartynasRex download 'openmarket' check out some of those Apps and games, well ive got a fair few off the games list in these forums that keep up with the iphone!
I wan't android too, and WM is indeed out of date... There are no Apps, you get everyday freezes, its out of date... Android have 50000 Apps, and it fast like a charm...

i think there are even more apps out for winmo than for iphone and android!
(unfortunately??) they're not concentrated at one single spot, like the appstore.
and what aspect makes winmo out of date?!
just saying "it's out of date" isn't a serious argument
I agree with WinMo 6.5 being way out of date, especially now compared to Android & Iphone. Winmo hides behind HTC Sense but if you strip that away its still just boring WinMo. WinMo 7 should be lots better though but I still get lots of fun out of my HD2, Loads of apps available to download from certain websites and you can play around with this thing to your hearts content, I mean I have flashed so many ROM's now its crazy but I love the fact I get to choose how my HD2 looks...... Be great to have android on this thing though.
windows
i thing you are right whit windows mobile is out of date . hd2 is great best ever for me , find your way try soft and trick on xda and you can make a perfect phone. you can also wait for evo 4g whit android but i think this phone is to big
the hd2 size are limit for bring on pocket . its a choice, many are happy whit iphone 3gs me after 2 days i sell mine i keep my omnia and wait for tmo hd2

concerning what?
iphone (android) means "iphone and/or android"
I ACTUALLY PEFER WINDOWS 6.5 WITH HTC SENSE MORE THAN ANDRIOD O.S. TO BE HONEST THE ONLY REASON WHY I LIKE THE ANDRIOD IS THERE APPS. I LIKE THE HTC HD2 BECUZ I CAN MAKE THE PHONE JUST LIKE I WANT IT. I WANT A IPHONE LOCKSCREEN WITH A WINDOWS MOBILE 7 INTERFACE AND A PIC OF A WATER PIPE MAKING A WATER PIPE SOUND EVERYTIME I TURN ON MY PHONE WELL THATS JUST SICK AND ESPECIALLY PRETTY MUCH HAVENT SEEN A PHONE THAT IS SO CUSTOMIZABLE ITS CRAZY. I HAVE TO SAY I DONT LIKE THE GAMES SOME ARE TO IPHONE STANDARDS BUT MOST ARE LADY KAKA . LETS ALL ADMIT ITS REALLY NOT ABOUT SELLING THE FASTEST DOPEST HARDWARE ITS ACTUALLY THE SOFTWARE. PEOPLE BUY IPHONES WHY?? BECUZ THERE USER FRIENDLY BUT MAINLY THE APPS AND ACESS TO CONTENT. SAME THING WITH ANDRIOD PHONES. BOTTOM LINE IN THIS DAY AND AGE GIMICS OR NEW HARWARE FEATURES(CAMERA,VIDEO RECORDER,WIFI,) WONT WORK ANYMORE ITS HOW MANY APPS THAT ARE IN THERE VIRTUA STORE THAT SUIT YOUR NEEDS

Being Android user for about half year now, i can say it's crazy unskinable. And about apps i can say most of them are bull****, some wallpaper apps, puzzle and copycat apps of others. Also keep in mind that many of the apps are not working on every android, they give you constantly Force closes everytime.
But at the end it ain't bad os, but not superior. Winmo need's some small update of 6.5 with better system optimization of buttons for better finger experience.
Regards. Gjizaqin
@ gjizaqin You are a troll, sorry to deliver these bad news to you.

Go see how to use android the real way. Sub while you are at it, I'll allow your trolling there.
Btw android has over 55k apps and it already outsells iphone OS. Windows is outdated in every possible way, and until win 7 mobile releases they are dead at least in the US. Thx.
Please go and learn how to research before buying a product, then you wont buy a device and then start crying its "out of date" and be asking for another OS to be ported to it.
I would say WinMo is not as pretty and sometimes unstable. But it's only unstable because it can do so many things.
It would be cool to use Android on this though. I think Android is going to be too much for WinMo7 to overcome.

I am assuming you meant Battery Hog? I know that the true results can only be seen from first hand usage, but a quote from their site sounds promising:
"Device battery life is a fundamental bottleneck of modern smartphones. SPB UI Engine is designed, from ground up, bearing power consumption in mind at every design step.
Battery life tests confirm that, UI designs powered by SPB UI Engine - despite of wearing more advanced visual effects - consume less battery power than popular UI solutions from top device manufactures, and even less than that consumed by the vanilla Android shell, in typical Home screen user scenarios."
wow....Looks nice...can you imagine the themes that come from it once ppl here get their hands on it?

Im just curious how many of you out there would recommend an iPhone over an Android phone or an Android over an iPhone. Just because of all the customization options I have and all the things I can do that I could of never done with an iPhone (even when jailbroken). Now I'd like to hear your opinion.

IOS.
Android FTW!
agreed with android ftw..
i do enjoy reponsiveness of ios and polished look. it just looks "nice"
but android ftmfw..
my friend had an iphone 4 and we jailbroke it and he was showing all the cool things you can do with jailbroken phones..
i was like wait.... what? my phone could do this before it was even rooted.
makes me sad that ios has sooo many features just "missing" that phones should have. or be able to do. i guess thats why its not open sources... =\
Actually I like iOS 'cause it's so stable and really really easy , thus leaving it for all ages to use. But it's really limited and therefore you jailbreak.
Android on the other hand is a very good OS too! It's very very versatile and you can custom it like you want. The only thing with Android is that it's kind of messy.
So to conclude iOS is an OS that you'll find attractive in first look and some months to come. Android is an OS that grows on you and you'll love it in the long-run.
Has anyone seen iOS5? Apple obviously stole almost every new feature from the jailbreak community then they stole notifications from Android. They need to come up with their own ideas.

They do that quite often! Same happend with iOS 4 with the wallpaper and multi tasking
I suspect you're going to get android as the majority answer here.
I'm over the ios>android or android> ios. They're different beasts with great qualities all around. I think ios is a simpler os in that really anyone can use it. At the same time, android's strength comes in its flexibility and customization. This doesn't suite everyone because really the majority of people just want an easy button. They can find that in android, they just don't have the patience to look.

I wouldn't neccesarily say that Apple stole multitasking from another OS/Device because its different. I mean, come on, its fake. I wouldn't say Apple stole the homescreen wallpapers either. Its an image that doesn't move and it isn't live. Basically, it makes it look a little better. No biggy.

If you want to use your phone as a phone with a little web browsing and a little Angry Birds playin', get iOS because its simple. If you want to make your phone the way you want it and you like customization, freedom, and the ability to to almost anything with your phone, get Android. =)

I would really like Ios, it's not a bad OS. Multitask, runs pretty decent, huge app store, but there are a couple reasons why I'm not on ios.
Flash, I use flash on my phone all the time. Keeps me entertained.
Screen size, 3.5" is too small for me.
Carrier, I'm on Sprint dammit.

I use an iPhone for the reliability of it. And because currently it's the only phone I have with FFC. I also use an Android phone because of the enjoyment of it and apps. I feel my Inspire is smoother and nicer than my iPhone, but not as reliable. The screen isn't nearly as good as the iPhone 4's, either.
I also use a WP7 device and feel WP7 will overtake bother other formats eventually. It's that good.
But right now I don't leave the house without my iPhone. I feel secure in the knowledge I can get ahold of someone shuld the need arise. My Inspire almost got my family and I lost once due to a malfunctioning compass and non-functioning nav.

Almost exact sentiment, except in reverse. My trusty Eris does all my heavy lifting for work-related tasks while my iPhone is my gps/playtoy. Haven't gotten my hands on a windows phone yet but they certainly are sounding more and more attractive these days!

Thats a nice OS but a WP7 phone at work somehow got a virus and it wouldbt let the phone do anything and all it did when you turned it in was show a big smiley face with the bird finger. XD
So yeah unlike allot here i won't go FU on iOS.
Here is my subjective list of pro & contra for both systems.
Mind you i have used both.
iOSPLUS:
Stable
For it's money a well running piece of software built on that specific hardware
Fast
Simple to use
Design = top notch
Good service and reliable
Contra:
Hard to modify the feel of the OS
Forced to stay with all apple software (unless jailbroken) to downlaod upload music,etc..
Easy to jailbrake but still a challenge
AndroidPLUS:
Easy to use
Smooth and stable
Easy to modify and root
Customizable to a great extend
Perfectly combined with all Google products
Good service and help from google with personal calls explaining things
Contra:
Default FM can hang once in a while
Without root no way to do much or change much
Easier battery drain (personal opinion)
No updates for all the phone due to builds and limitations ( this is because there are so many companies producing Androids but all with different specs)
WP7Well really don't have much usage experience i did boot the emulator to check it out. Can't say it's ugly but doesn't look appealing either.
I believe that the OS probably is decent but it doesn't beg me to try it out
I think the WP7 is a good phone matching all other MS products. Like Xbox to phone connections and with Win8 it will be easy to look things up on your PC and share it with your phone if you godda go real quick. Win8 get's the same WP7 overlay.
All in all no real user experience so won't brake it down.
I believe it's a small correct list.
I can't say i hate either one of them but currently running android. Feels a Little slower then iOS but my biggest plus is all my Google Docs,Searches,G+,Mail,Pic are easy to acces with simple clicks from your phone.
Who the best is?
Think both are worth as much but if you like to mess around with your phone i would advise the android OS. Also you are more free to choose a phone to your liking then being forced a same look like the guy next to you in the train has.
How difficult would it be to run Windows Phone 7 on a Thunderbolt, or any other Android phone for that matter? I've seen people go the other way, which I'm sure is easier since Android is an open platform, but are the hardware specs that much different, or has it mainly not been happening due to non interest in the platform? I think it's a rather neat looking platform and would love to try it out. Who knows, maybe I'm the only person that feels that way. lol

No.... you're not the first one to conjure such a thought. The hardware isn't terribly friendly and MS has spec requirements for implementations of WP7. It would be very difficult at best.
I'm still waiting to see Android on a BlackBerry... or someone ask if we can run BBOS on a Thunderbolt.
jesus christ... after having an HD2 and then an HD7... i just have one thing to ask....
are you alright in the head!?...
this has already been attempted twice on the evo4g and both devs gave up. also they tried to port webos to the hero and that failed, bottom line is it will never happen. wp7 sucks anyways.

If it's that difficult to where two different devs gave up, I guess that makes sense. I didn't really know since I'm not a developer and just by reading hardware specs, they don't seem too far off.
As far as Windows Phone 7 sucking, the few people who own the phones that I know absolutely love them. The only phone that Verizon has with the OS, seems to have a pretty good rating also.

My own experience is that WinMo 6.5 isn't my favorite OS but it's WAAAAAAAY better than Windows Phone 7!
I'd rate OSs I've used as:
Android = OK
BB OS5 = OK (my favorite)
BB OS6 = Sorta sucks
WinMo 6.5 = Sorta sucks
Windows Phone 7 = Really sucks
iOS = OK if you're 13 years old
As always, YMMV

BB OS5? Your favorite? I've gotta ask why on that one.
NOTHING A B.F.H WON'T FIX
Compared to android, winblows OS sucks
enough already you guys are bringing back bad memories.

What's wrong with the hd7? Give me a lte wp7 device with mango, and I'm off android in a heartbeat. No flashing roms to fix lag, you know it will work with your phone....
I wonder how many of y'all that are bashing wp7, actually tried it for more than 2 minutes in the store...
The UI to WP7 isn't bad and even android is adopting parts of it (see the latest android market), but I couldn't live with a windows phone or an iphone because I care more about my phone "just working." However, I guess that's not for everyone and for those, they're are phones that "just work."
I had a blackberry curve once that "just worked" and I did not like it.
hi guys
i have a couple of questions before buying a wp7 phone
i want to buy an MS phone but im afraid that it doesn't have the "openness" that android offers
does wp7 have a "do it our way" ideology like the iphone ?
am i stuck to something like "itunes"
i noticed that when u press search Bing shows up
can i choose google instead ?
thanks
hello to you! i have been an android user since 2009, also an iOS user since 2008... now I am a happy user of a windows phone wich i tell you sincerely that you wont miss that android... I'm feeling like i was reborn, with an apealing look, everything seems to be at his natural place...its very stable, you wont meet these freeze from android or iOS..besides that, seems to me that internet explorer is faster than ever...you have the same high quality games like iOS. And yes, you can make it in your own way...microsoft has developed an app like itune, called zune, but you wont depend on zune... anyway, zune is more friendly than iTunes! so, i truly recommend you a windows phone with mango... its purely awesome!

this sounds great !!
im planning on buying a lumia 800 after 2 months
by that time they would have sorted out the firmware issues
thanks !!!
You won't regret the Lumia purchase. Had mine 10 days now, and it's gorgeous - aesthetically and as an OS.

If you are waiting for 2 months, then maybe you will have more devices on offer. Hopefully a Lumia 900?

The scope for customisation is far less than that of Android. Overall WP7 is fluid and stable but I have one app that annoyingly hangs my phone (Own this world) so it isn't true to say it is 100% hang free.
There still remain many "obvious" features missing, eg no draft text messages, no "real" 3rd party multitasking (ie apps are suspended whilst in the background).
Unless there are specific apps (locked to a particular OS) that are must haves, then I would say give WP a try.
As the guys in previous posts have told you - it's potential for modding and 3rd party apps is quite limited so far, but being a former symbian - windows mobile - android user, I gotta admit that I've gotten used to WP7 so much that I honestly can't see myself going back to an android or such. It annoyed the hell out of me for the 2 first weeks of ownership (HTC Mozart 7 is the device in question) because of some ridiculous limitations imposed on a "smartphone", but after the tedious task of reading a large amount of info, then finally updateing/unlocking my phone, I simply love it It's so smooth, and practical like you wouldn't believe, true it does have it's quirks and such, but it's a great device to use, nonetheless
