Can everyone please sign this petition - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

. hey guys please sign that petition. Htc's ceo lied and said no more locked bootloaders back in may well the vivid has a locked bootloader. Lets please support our android brothers . http://www.groubal.com/htc-vivid-has-locked-bootloader-contrary-to-statements-by-the-company/#sign

I signed it.
That was one of the main reasons why I went with Galaxy Skyrocket vs Vivid.

Wont HTC unlock the bootloader with their online service? I'm sure it'll take forever for them to post it up but they should eventually. Maybe I'm confused. Either way I hate locked bootloaders.

This has been known for a while .
I don't see this being a problem for very long especially on htc, considering that phones like the holiday will more then likely have international "brothers/sisters", that means there will be dev support worldwide working to break open a phones boot loader. I would assume the only reason it hasn't been done to the atrix, is because honestly the phone is a flop. Blur put a bad taste in everyones mouth and not alot of people want to mess with moto.
If you hit up other htc phone boards here on xda there are literally hundreds of developers working on htc phones. I have said it before where there is a will there is a way.
Atrix is no flop
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Locked bootloaders do much harm to the phones' sales. I like the sense rom but the default stock one comes with a lot of bloat and poor battery performance. I flashed the dilligaf's V2 rom and my phone now flies. When the manufacturers cannot unleash the full potential of the phone, why the hell do they have to lock their bootloaders for?

HAHAHA! That's funny sh*t.
Anyways... If the manufacturers and Phone companies would actually leave the phones open, we wouldn't have this issue.
It wouldn't be too hard for them to do...build a recovery image right into the phone. If something screws up, they is a keypress sequence that would force install factory firmware. Bam...No more brick, and start over. I know I have reference the PSP in several other posts, but they did it right. Maybe the phone manufacturers should take a hint.
There is a PSP dev that goes by Dark_Alex... He created the "Despertar del Cementerio." This translates to "Wake the Dead." This was a service battery and memory stick combo that would literally UNBRICK your PSP. I actually have one, and have purposely killed the power during a firmware update to test it. And it works! Anyways, the point is...this is VERY possible with these phones, no one has done it yet tho.

Haha, I LOLed at work when I read this.
ATT seems to have something to do with this. If I hadn't been able to root my inspire I'd probably have returned it. Too much bloat. Bloated on a phone like that males it even worse (also I never liked MOTO)

Well if its not rootable and cannot access recovery, then I don't bother. I was walking thru fryys when I saw the inspire and knew I had to get it. Not sure why people blame the carriers for this. Sure they would like you to pay for tethering but they obviously don't have a set policy. Devices range from Samsung which can be flashed without even rooting in some cases to Motorola with locked, signed, encrypted, blah blah. If the carriers were the ones making the decision on bootloaders then there would seem to be more consistency across manufacturers. Sprint even said publicly that they have no say in the matter and were deferring to HTC on the fate of the EVO 3d.

That may be true publicly but privately, I believe carriers heavily "encourage" manufacturers to lock the bl (perhaps even with incentives.)
Carriers defer to the manufacturers questions like this to avoid looking like the bad guy. Kinda like the hot-potato when it comes to OS upgrades.
Sprint: "We're waiting for HTC to get Froyo ready."
HTC: "We're waiting for Sprint to QA their custom apps and functionality."

They bent over backwards for Apple because they have been kicking themselves since they passed on the iPhone the first time. They saw the chance to steal a big amount of AT&T iPhone users and jumped. Now if they actually stole a lot of AT&T iPhone users is a different matter. I don't think they stole that many so far. I think when the next iPhone comes out, they will see a big influx.

I said what I said because Verizon changed their closed ways for a iphone... Not sure why they wouldn't do it for an Android phone. The nexus phones are sellers as well and if they really want to take away users from all carriers (not just at&t) they need to have one in their line up.
They will be able to take advantage of having the fastest network (while they still can) with a 4G nexus phone.
Talk about killing it! They would rape the competition having an iPhone and a 4G nexus phone.
The time is now if they are smart.

Motorola has definitely heard our out cries about the BL and still haven't done anything. Which makes me think they aren't ever going to. for instance, on their Facebook page they will post something such as, "what is your favorite tv show" and over 50% of the comments are completely unrelated. And those unrelated comments are about unlocking the bootloader.

Kind of stupid if you ask me... the A2 is underrated in the market and didn't have a very successful launch. Only reason I got it was because I loved the first one, and I am happy with this one as well. Motorola would make good money if they unlocked bootloaders and wouldn't have to replace as many handsets if they already came unlocked.. or maybe I'm missing something? Their marketing team has to be smarter than that.

The carrier has some say but ultimately it's up to whoever makes the phones... and Motorola keeps saying that we're going to have unlocked bootloaders but how long has the A2 been out and nothing? That's why people are going to Samsung, easier to mess around with. If I pay for something I wanna be able to use it to it's full potential! But I hate Samsung so I'll remain with my atrix for the time being. And if by the time I can upgrade I don't have an unlocked bootloader or a newer Motorola android w unlocked bootloader then I am going to iPhone (if there's a jailbreak for the 5 by that time).
