[Q] Internet Calling on 3G/H - HTC Sensation

In stock roms, Settings>call>use internet calling, which is the native VoIP application, is limited to be used only with wifi.
Does any Custom Rom has it enabled on 3G/H ?
(The should not be confused with T-Mobile wifi calling and like applications)

One of the custom roms I had with my old HD2/android had it enabled on 3G/H.
I think, but not sure, that it has been one by CoreDroid. That's why I still think it is doable, but I do not know how to do it.

Internet Call (VoiP)
Hi,
i'm still on HyperNonSense V1.4 and have setup internet calls in Phone app. It works on any network (WiFi, 3G,...)
The only thing i had to do was to copy framework.jar & framework-res.apk from V1.2 to /system/framework folder.
I hope i could help you with this information

Paul
I use CoreDroid and the option is still in the latest V4.1
There is the option for
Use internet calling when data network is available
I have never tried this so can't provide any accurate info on if it works or not

These are the changes that Tmobile made to the phone

By going through the manual & comparing it to the EU version I've compiled a list of things tmous has changed on the phone. (in case anyone was interested)
Removed:
Quick Lookup - ability to select something & choose lookup through Google, Wikipedia, etc
Show Me app
Ebook reader completely missing even though HTC widget is still there
Voice Recorder
Voice Dialer
Dock settings
Locations
The Device Setup on first boot is missing things
Added:
Wifi calling (Tmobile's UMA feature)
I wonder why Tmobile removed all of these?
Here is a Voice Recorder app in the market that someone recommended since ours is missing:
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.tokasiki.android.voicerecorder
Did they keep Locations? And the quick look up thing is actually useful...dumb.

seems to be missing too. updated post.
Man why the **** is it 3 years since using a HTC Touch and they are still locking in bull**** accuweather with no zipcode search or cities that aren't major?
Ran into the voicerecorder bs.
Is there anyway to add any of those features back in or are they hard built into the rom?

What do you mean by "wifi calling"? is it calling via wifi using SIP provider?
If so, we do have it on our Vodafone UK branded units.
If it's something else, please explain.
well I guess it's good I havn't waited for the 4G to come and pre-ordered the British version.. just one thing, the WiFi Calling looks good.. (first time with Android and HTC xD) is there any way to get it in the UK Sensation Z710e ?

T-Mobile is a pretty cool system. When you're at home (or on a WiFi network that doesn't do much filtering), phone calls, SMS, and MMS inbound or outbound route through WiFi instead of the cellular network. I've noticed this has the benefit of improving battery life while on WiFi, as it turns off the WCDMA (3G/4G) radio. It actually seems like it might turn off the cellular radio completely, I'll have to check when I get home.
The one downside is that if you are on the phone and walk away from your WiFi network, it will drop the call. It can't hand off.
I'm not sure if this is common in Europe, but in the states, many wireless carriers offer femtocell units that users can install in their home if they have bad reception. WiFi calling eliminates the need for that.
Wifi calling will notify you of a mms but it will not download the message. At least that's my experience with the G2x.

ah sorry was just going off what I've been told regarding MMS. I actually don't use SMS or MMS, I use google voice for "SMS" purposes and don't have any use for MMS (if someone wants to send me a photo they just email it).
I have an unbranded phone from HK but also have Show Me and Locations. (Maybe the other stuff too - didn't check).

I think it shuts off the radio as well. My buddy had it turned on by accident & was freaking out because he was on wifi & showed no signal bars.

A similar feature to the TMOUS "wifi calling" is offered in the UK by BT Mobile. They call it BT Fusion.
Fem2cell is available here from Vodafone, known as Sure Signal

Good call, I'm gonna need wifi calling at the very least before I'll hop over to an alternate ROM (who am I kidding I'm sure I won't be able to resist). The my account app is handy but it's in the market anyway (there was an update a day or two ago).
When you say Dock Settings is there a separate App/Icon for the EU version or are the settings completely gone from withing the Settings Menu?

Correct me if i'm wrong.
But as far as i know wifi calling isn't supported on Sense 3.5.
Because the Tmouse app isn't compatible with GB2.3.5
I'm using InsertCoin's Sense 3.5 Rom and Wifi Calling works flawlesly.
It doesn't crash on phonecalls?

How do I set it up for tmobile USA? If my plan don't include wifi, it was just count the minutes toward my plan, if I understand correctly. The feature could still be useful in a location of poor cell signal.

What do you mean wifi is not included in your plan? As far as I know wifi has nothing to do with T-Mobile's plans. And to set it up all I had to do was connect to a wifi network and the wifi calling app prompted me that i can make calls over wifi.
I can upload the .apk from my phone if you don't have com.android.kineto.apk in /system/app
Does the error also occur on viber calls?

I was referring to the fact the TMobile provides for routing of calls dialed over wifi and for some plans, these calls do not count as minutes. An example is their hotspot at home plan.
Please send your .apk.
If your apk is not using the carrier, how does it route calls to other phones? Do you have to pay a third party to ring landlines, etc from it, like internet VoIP services work?

Well, when you make a call it goes through T-mobile and then whatever carrier the other end has and etc. This all happens just eh same except on your end, you're reaching T-Mobile through the internet, not the mobile network.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18343305/com.android.kineto.apk
wifi calling is exclusive to carriers T-mobile and Orange - if you don't have one of those two carriers, and an approved phone (such as HTC Sensation ) then you won't get past Kineto's gateway, no matter what apk is loaded on your phone.
One of the best deals for wifi calling is T-Mo's Monthly 4G $60 prepaid no-contract plan, it includes:
- unlimited voice calling
- unlimited wifi calling
- unlimited SMS & MMS texting
- unlimited 4G data (but throttled after 2GB/month)
- unlimited tethering (but throttled after 2GB/month as above)
- unlimited mobile wifi hotspot (but throttled after 2GB/month as above)

[Q] No 3G, HSDP, GPRS, and Edge signals on CM7.2 RC5.6

I am having a problem with Squadzone's CM7.2 RC5.6 (his latest ROM release). I have been using his ROM's since the first he developed. But I am now having a problem with the latest mod which is CM7.2 RC5.6.. No 3G, HSDP, GPRS, and Edge signal appears. I have already enabled mobile data. Here are my settings:
data enable: check
network preferences: GSM/WCDMA(WCDMA preferred)
access point name: preloaded by my sim card carrier (smart internet)
I have been using the same set up even before I was still using the previous CM7.2 RC versions and all worked. Now, I can not use my openVPN because I have no mobile data I hope someone can help me on this. Thanks a lot.
Note: I have signal on my signal bars. But i think it is just for the text and call. Because 3G, Edge, HSDP, or GPRS usually appears beside the signal bars.
Get root explorer.
Go to system>build.prop
Open it in text editor.
Make sure its the same

If ALL your signals are gone, chances are your Radio is the culprit. See if you can locate and flash a new radio to your phone
Problem solved! My sim card was blocked by my provider. All I did was unblock it by texting a code to the provider (I think it is only applicable in the philippines). Thanks anyways guys. More power to XDA. Sorry for doubting that the problem was with the rom.

[SOLVED] Bad connection (Orange bars)

Hello Guys
I´ve been having problems with my connection on my nexus, the signal bars are always in orange, they were only white for a few hours after a fresh custom rom install.
I can make calls but i don´t receive whatsapp messages or emails
I've tried:
-Flashing the new radio
-Checking my Sim (it works fine on my brother's nexus)
-Turned LTE only in the band options
-Checking my IMEI
Why does it mean IP addr not reachable?
Is there any fix for this? Or I need to request a replacement?
=========UPDATE================
I solved the problem! That was not a hardware or software issue, I dissabled the background data for Google Play Services because they were eating my battery! I've enabled them and I have connection now.
Thanks to @matt4321 for giving me a hint of the problem!
I believe it's white when connected to Google servers!
Have you flashed GApps?

To clear it up:
You're in the US, using a mvno network called Telcel America, which allows unlimited calls to Mexico?
This is probably related to MCC/MNC for this (virtual in the US) network not being included in the custom ROM but is included on the stock ROM. As such, if I understand correctly, if you disable roaming, you'll loose connectivity.
If this is indeed the case, the custom ROM needs to include it (actually, preventing it from thinking it needs to roam) in frameworks/base.

How do I put WiFi Calling on Custom ROMs?

Hello, I currently am running Stock ROM from EE which includes WiFi Calling. I want to use custom ROMs but I cannot due to it not having WiFi Calling, I have asked developers but I have been ignored.
I do not have any signal at work nor at home so I rely on WiFi Calling, how do I put it on a custom rom myself?
Thanks.
I guess a developer should have the right answer . Below is the VoLTE/VoWiFi info I noticed in my devices running Stock fw.:
- your ROM should support VoLTE/VoWiFi, running all the IMS services
- VoLTE and VoWiFi databases are under: /data/data/com.sec.imsservice/databases/. You have info related to all the operators there, including EE. You can even edit them but in your case I guess you will have to do a copy from Stock to Custom. I guess this is the most critical part, I don't know if just copying the files will work.
- Besides this you have to look in the info under /system/CSC and to enable the WiFi Calling there. Pay atention also at ims APN.
Let me know if you managed to make some progress ...
