I'm looking for something that is able to analyze the entirety of phone's radio functionality. I have WiFi Analyzer for the WiFi aspect of the radio but nothing more. Are there any apps available that can analyze all of the phone's radio spectrum? A single app would be ideal but multiple apps would be fine too.
Thanks.
I'm guessing that by so few responses that I'm asking for something that doesn't exist. Ah well, maybe eventually...
Might not be what you are looking for... but I find "Real Signal" some what helpful.

did you by chance attempt different radio versions? personally wouldnt think it would make a difference, but downgraded my radio and now i get 3g without having to stand at the end of my driveway or climb anymore tall trees...

wifi tether in the market.
anyone try it?
crap. doesnt even show up in my list of available networks.
Doesn't work on hero yet

yep this program is a dud, didn't show up even if I changed the ssid. Cute icon though lol
on his website, it says does not work on hero and plans to release a fix. I look forward to it, as one thing I really like about the idea is that it does not broadcast ssid after first minute or so, saving battery.

hm i didnt do my research. interesting, i guess ill keep an eye out tho. hope it doesnt catch my phone on fire like wtfru does :-\
Still new to Android, but I've manage to get just about all of the capabilities from my WM6 Fuze with the Captivate.
One thing I haven't seen though, is an app or any other method of tethering the GPS data to a laptop. Is this possible on Android?
I don't believe this is possible. But, why would you want to tether a broken GPS?

Maybe he wants to know for when it gets fixed. Why did you have a decent post in telling him you aren't sure, and then troll it in the next statement?
i am genuinely curious about what you would use gps tethering for? Pique'd my curiosity
as for the troll, idk. Gps worked out of the box for me. Following gps fixing threads fixed it for a bunch of people so maybe the troll should give that a try.
No humor allowed in this forum, huh. Sorry guys, I'll keep the sarcasm to myself in the feature.

lol skin, i think there just have been more trolls than normal lurkin around lately, i sorry.
phones gettin popular i guess. i see more and more new faces every day.
There are some 3rd party Windows programs that work a little better for navigation when you're out on the 4x4 trails, like DeLorme Topo and full Google earth.
Google Nav on the phone works good for "get me from Point A to point B", but I need a little more then that when I hit the trails.
I used "GPS2blue" on WM6 and it worked pretty well. Was hoping there was a way on Android, specifically WiFi or BT.
As for the GPS issues, I haven't seemed to notice any problems with mine. Seems very accurate when using satellites, although the indoor accuracy is not very good compared to the old FUze or wife's IP4.
If this was already posted, please don't shoot me. I am merely trying to help with a workaround for the flaky GPS on our SGS's.
I know that many of us are done dealing with the GPS on our Galaxy S, and to be honest I was already contemplating in the last two weeks to get rid of this phone and switch back to my Nexus One.
Also as many of you, I have tried various software fixes from changing some simple settings all the way to replacing system files with no real improvment.
My solution is certainly not for anyone and there might have been similar posts alreay, however I don't think those solutions where freeware and without any restrictions. This one is free and the software does not have any timelimit or other restrictions.
Requirements:
1) You need a Bluetooth GPS module (in my case I have a Holux GPSlim 236)
2) Download an app called 'Bluetooth GPS Provider' puplished by mobile-j.de (its free)
3) enable BT in settings, create a link to your GPS module
4) under settings/application/development make sure 'allow mock locations' is eabled
5) open 'Bluetooth GPS Provider' and under preferences the first item lets you choose the BT GPS receiver.
6) you may need to change the 'GPS type' under preferences if you cannot get data.
7) back on the main page of the 'Bluetooth GPS Provider' software click on 'Start'
Once you have a lock you can use the navigation software of your choice.
If you are using Google Navigation, it will ask you to enable the internal GPS, which is fine. Turn it on via the task pane and once you are on the mapping software you can tun it back off the same way. The software only checks at the startup of Google Nav if the internal GPS is running.
The tracking with my Holux was dead one - and I do mean dead on. It tracked every corner I took without any lag.
If I can get the APK of the file I will upload it here, but the app should be accessible to anyone on the market.
The APK is now attached in case someone has a hard time finding it
No offense intended, but I really don't feel like spending another $50-$100 for a bluetooth GPS receiver.
If you already have one, I can see this being a viable option though.

Well, I know what you mean.
If I didn't have the Holux already I would not consider this either, but someone else may not even realize this option exists and it certainly is a better solution than using the GPS receiver with a laptop and some windows based tracking software.

U can get them much cheaper on ebay. Or if you have an old windows phone, which is what I use (my tilt or fuze)

Perfect accuracy and tracking for me. Gpsgate for winmo is like 15 bucks.

I tried using this but I kept getting some weird "resets" randomly. It wouldn't really reset but the screen would go black and then the home screen would re-load, the phone signal would be disconnected and then finally reconnect, just like it does when you power up your phone. The button backlights would be lit the entire time it "resets" though. I'm using Cognition v2.2 Beta7 right now.
When it does work it works really well. Just had too many "resets" trying to use it and becomes frustrating. Maybe updating to the latest Cog will help.

I noticed the gps on my captivate does not work near as good as my 4 year old blackberry.my captivate can't decide where I'm at and thus can't decide how to direct me to my destination. The accuracy is some times is sometimes only with in a few blocks, not within feet (like with my old black berry). I've tried different rom but no improvement.
IThe gps is critical for me and my work. So any help, ideas is appreciated.

Some people never read my signature. And then if they do, they don't know what it means.
BTW: Known issue, if you didn't do your homework before buying then well.......
woh, wait, the captivates have gps issues? I thought it was only limited to the fascinate.
I have tried all the "fix's" and even loaded 3 different ROM's. No improvement what so ever with any of them.
I beginning to think my hardware is broken, but the problem is that when I use GPS Test it sees the many satellites (many with snr above 30) but none are locked on. Thus I think it must be a SW issue.
turn on wifi also. No idea why, but turning on wifi gets to within 10-20 for me..turn it off and 3600..no idea why..even if im not around a wireless point
I just flashed paragon rc 6 rom and now my gps is spot on but we will see how long that lasts
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
honestly, i dont care what people say. Ive seen GPS problems with these phones regardless of what rom you flash. Sure the fixes can help, but they dont fix your problem. The only way to truly fix your problem is send it in, get a new one and hope it doesnt do the same exact thing.
3 captivates, 2 with bad gps regardless of rom/fix. 1 worked fine
sent back in 2 captivates
Now all 3 captivates gps work flawless. What do i think from this? its hardware

ive seen gps complaints on just about every smart phone. thing is you need to be smarter than the phone to use fix it.
i have tried a number of fixes and sugestions and find that
A) the gps restore app does something, and it does not over write user settings like the description suggests, really i have used it and all my secgps.conf edits remain as well as the jupiter.xml file and lbs settings.
B) all the cell tower assist features have a negative effect on tracking performance even if they have a positive effect on lock speed.
C) modems have a big effect, but also the modem must be compatable with the gps libraries. if you flash a gps fix you may need to flash a modem. or vise versa.
make sure that the first time to try a different or new fix, you delete the gps data and start it outside and give it 5+ min.

...if you are aware of the existence of xda. I didn't even know this site existed until 7 months after I got my 1006 build. I was so pissed that my $200 smart phone ran like a win 97 computer that I googled "I hate my captivate" and somehow I ended up on this site. now "I love my captivate".
the issue I've noticed with a lot of thread starters is that they don't know $h!t, as in nothing at all, about the phone OR XDA when they post. they're just looking for community support.
I hate it when I see miamison post "should be located in nexus g32 coupe Q&A submarine staples center forum". half of the thread starters are idiots when it comes to this stuff and are just looking for a little help. that is what XDA is here to provide.
I didn't realize XDA had a limited data plan on their forum that only allows for x number of threads per day(they don't).
so next time a newbie posts in the general section about an issue they have, instead of saying "this should be posted elsewhere" or "gah this thread has been #$%@*&% like rabbits" give them the help and I'm pretty sure they will figure out forum etiquette before too long. and you will have good karma .
PS: sorry miamison. just as many threads started as posts you have about the location they belong in. what's the difference?

If you rely that heavily on a GPS, i'd suggest getting a cheap car mounted one. I would never trust my phone, espeically my Cappy, for GPS if it's vital to my job.
Hello everyone not must of a poster more of a reader have a quick question I noticed my laptop can pick up way more wifi signals at a distance is there a tweak or a way to boost the wifi on the tf700 to pick up wifi signals?
I'm finding the WiFi radio in the TF700T to be a bit underwhelming too. But considering it's a $500 device they had to keep costs down somewhere and I think much of that $500 goes to the screen and CPU. IMO the sound system and WiFi radio didn't get much of a budget to work with.

Perhaps something like these?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.signal.booster

But this will most likely decrease your battery life.

I don't believe that these apps increase the power of the wifi radio - they are mainly for cell phones - all they do is look for a stronger signal and switch to the stronger network. In the case of wifi, I don't think it will help at all unless you have multiple wifi routers and you aren't using the one closest to you (but then again, you can switch that yourself - no need for an app)...

Many comments say otherwise, so perhaps it's worth a try. Personally I don't like to make statements based on a "belief", so I'd try it if I were you, although I've just posted the links, I haven't tried it myself yet. Having said that, I believe the idea is boosting the radio capabilities in the similar fashion as Volume+ boosts your speakers' volume. I'll have a look at it in a spare hour.

Actually, I have used these apps on my phone and they will not help with wifi connections unless there are multiple hotspots, which again, you could do yourself.
It says it right in the app description: "drops your current connection and connects to a better connection" - that's all it does. Like I said, it's mainly for cell phone connections. Not going to help for home wifi connections and is certainly not going to boost the power to your wifi radio.
And if you really read the comments, you'll see that they also introduce SPAM and is generally a waste of time.
I would *not* install these apps for this purpose - you are wasting your time.
Just my opinion of course - everyone is entitled to one!
