Hello everyone not must of a poster more of a reader have a quick question I noticed my laptop can pick up way more wifi signals at a distance is there a tweak or a way to boost the wifi on the tf700 to pick up wifi signals?
I'm finding the WiFi radio in the TF700T to be a bit underwhelming too. But considering it's a $500 device they had to keep costs down somewhere and I think much of that $500 goes to the screen and CPU. IMO the sound system and WiFi radio didn't get much of a budget to work with.

Perhaps something like these?

But this will most likely decrease your battery life.

I don't believe that these apps increase the power of the wifi radio - they are mainly for cell phones - all they do is look for a stronger signal and switch to the stronger network. In the case of wifi, I don't think it will help at all unless you have multiple wifi routers and you aren't using the one closest to you (but then again, you can switch that yourself - no need for an app)...

Many comments say otherwise, so perhaps it's worth a try. Personally I don't like to make statements based on a "belief", so I'd try it if I were you, although I've just posted the links, I haven't tried it myself yet. Having said that, I believe the idea is boosting the radio capabilities in the similar fashion as Volume+ boosts your speakers' volume. I'll have a look at it in a spare hour.

Actually, I have used these apps on my phone and they will not help with wifi connections unless there are multiple hotspots, which again, you could do yourself.
It says it right in the app description: "drops your current connection and connects to a better connection" - that's all it does. Like I said, it's mainly for cell phone connections. Not going to help for home wifi connections and is certainly not going to boost the power to your wifi radio.
And if you really read the comments, you'll see that they also introduce SPAM and is generally a waste of time.
I would *not* install these apps for this purpose - you are wasting your time.
Just my opinion of course - everyone is entitled to one!

I have never heard of a way to do that. My guess though is that at some level android already does this. At least I hope google was smart enough to realize a feature like this would be very useful to mobile devices. However it is possible that our "mobile" hardware isnt capable of doing something like that. But I would sure like to know if it can and how.
I wasnt sure if thehardware is capable or not, in my view I would think you would have to have this idea in mind before hand and make the hardware capable of it. It makes sense for psp ( close ad hoc gaming), and laptops are meant to be versitile, but i could understand if this is not thought for with tablets, while some people use them as laptop replacement, the idea of a tablet is more free and moving around and such)

So, I sent Asus tech support a question about the Dynamic Contrast functionality on the TF700. Basically, I described the "side-effect" of the screen getting brighter and dimmer as the amount of white on the screen changes (which is the dynamic contrast) and was asking if there was any way to disable this "feature" either now or planned in the future.
Their answer - they told me to do a factory reset! <sigh>.
Why do they *always* tell people to do that, even when it has *nothing* to do with the question!?!??! Man, is that annoying....

Yep, that's exactly what I'm talking about. The TF700 is the only tablet where I've seen it. I can live with it normally, but watching certain videos is just annoying as hell because of it!
At least let me enable/disable the feature as needed!
When I replied and asked again for them to confirm that the TF700 does in fact use dynamic contrast, their answer was "not that I know of". What the hell kind of answer is that? You work for Asus - find out!!

My Xoom does exactly the same since Android 3.x , even now with the 4.1.1 update it still have this annoying dynamic-contrast
I've found that turning on IPS+ and then turning the brightness down to a bearable level helps when I'm watching videos.
The dynamic contrast really bothers me when I'm watching my anime because the faces get all flushed out and everyone looks pale like Rei (I mean, wtf ASUS, how could you do that) and the screen flickers. I find rebooting usually fixes the problem, or using different media players.

As with all larger companies nowadays, the first line of support is staffed with green maqaques or some other species of monkey -- I can't believe they're hiring primates as any primate species I know of has higher intelligence than this. I hate canned responses, but this is what the customer gets when the company "optimizes" its processes. All goes to Hell.

I'm waiting for Microsoft to launch Internet Explorer 9 for Android. It will be the best thing since slice bread, gone will be the issues of web pages not working properly and having to select Desktop all the time.
The Android tablet exclusive IE9 browser will perfectively crafted to operate in the same manner that IE9 operates in a Windows 7 environment only it will be in a Android OS environment.

+Silverlight support
+Flash Support even in JB in IE9 Android.

FYI - in case anyone is interested, I was able to easily tether my TF700 to my Android phone over bluetooth. It'll even share your phones wifi connection via bluetooth! Extremely easy to setup and it just works...
1. Install FoxFi on your phone
2. Install "PDANet for Tablets" on your TF700 (available for free in Play Store)
3. Select "Activate Bluetooth DUN" in FoxFi on the phone
4. Run PDANet for Tablets on the TF700 and configure it for bluetooth.
5. Simple pair the tablet and phone from within PDANet for Tablets.
6. That's it - you'll be tethered to your phone via bluetooth!
I can't believe how well it works.... Enjoy!
Also - Can do the same thing for wifi tethering as well. The nice thing about bluetooth tethering though is that you can actually share the wifi connection on your phone via bluetooth (something you can't do with normal wifi tethering)... Although, I guess if your phone can connect to wifi, you could just connect your tablet directly to the same wifi! But, it works nonetheless!

Well, if you mean the "paid" hotspot, this method is free. Plus, bluetooth tethering should be easier on the battery as well.
Agreed about with sharing wifi over bluetooth - like I said, it works, but if your phone could connect to wifi, your TF700 should be able to connect directly to the wifi as well. Only purpose for that would be if your TF was not "allowed" to connect to the wifi due to some policy (but your work-supplied phone could) - you could just connect to your phone for wifi access...
But again, the main purpose would be for free tethering (instead of paying a monthly fee).
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
I paired my phone to my tablet without any of the apps mentioned and was able to get online using the phone's 3G connection. I do have an older phone (DroidX), maybe that makes a difference as far as not needing PDANet, etc.
Forgot not everyone has the ability to do free hotspot. My phone hasn't had a stock ROM since the first handful of stable ROMs were available.
---------- Post added at 08:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 AM ----------
Also, just thought of a use for the share wifi feature. AT&T has alot of free hotspots that are free to ATT devices only, often found at McDonalds. There is often regular free wifi, but the ATT only is less crowded and I usually see faster speeds. I suppose in this scenerio it would be useful too.
It's useful if your traveling with kids and they want to download a new app or something. I have actually found quite a few uses including at work to use it. I just use the hotspot though. The only bad part is that it kills your battery FAST so make sure you have a charger.
I just use Widgetsoid on my Galaxy Nexus to tether.

Am I missing something here? I thought this was a standard feature or is this method required for carriers that ban tethering?
I have a galaxy s2 running Samsung stock 4.03 on Telstra Australia and I tether by Bluetooth all the time to my Tf700t by just enabling it in the phone tethering options, pair devices and connect. Done. No hacks or apps required
you dont need any of those apps just sync phone and tablet via bluetooth and it will ask if you want bluetooth to share internet

Either I'm missing something or this is *not* a "Standard" feature for all carriers. In my case, I'm using a "pre-paid" phone from VIrgin Mobile. It's $35/month for unlimited everything (except phone minutes - you get 300 anytime minutes). I certainly can "pair" my devices via bluetooth, but I don't get an option to share my internet (and even thought the devices did "pair", they will not "connect" to each other).
I do know that "tethering" was an extra monthly option in my case (an extra $15/month option!).
Again, I don't see any way to tether without using these apps. The phone itself is an HTC EVO V 4G (re-badged EVO 3D) - If I try to enable the wifi "portable hotspot mode" I get an error and it just won't work. Cannot find a way to share the internet via blutooth either (without said apps).
So, I do believe that this method will be useful for some as I don't believe that you can tether for free with all carriers.
Again, unless I'm missing something!

I tried to tether my iPhone with optus prepaid and got an error saying it was not activated by the carrier so I am sure android must have this carrier dependant feature in place. I had to install a hack on my iPhone to get around it so I can why you may need apps to get around it for Android as well. Just thankful my carrier allows free tethering a stupid idea IMO to not allow it

As I mentioned, I use wifi tethering. I also have the GNote (ATT Version, I717) running King Kang AOKP rom and never have an issue. If you flash ROMs you may be better off just using wifi as it'll autoconnect when you pop the wifi from your phone and no pairing and connecting and pin code mess. Just a thought.

Hi peeps. Came across a way to lower Wi-Fi signal strength to save power. Having a few problems, but came across another thing that said not all hardware can be adjusted. Before I tinker with this anymore, does anyone know if our Wi-Fi chip can be adjusted?
http://jhanford.wordpress.com/2011/10/03/lowering-wi-fi-transmit-power-in-android/
Nice find! When I started, the utility reported that the TX-power was 1496dBm. When I told it to set it to 4dBm, it lowered it to 398dBm, so it does seem to be working (basically, you divide the number that the utility is reporting by 100).
It seems that the TF700 defaults to 14dBm and I just lowered it to 4dBm.
Now, whether or not it's *really* doing anything, I'm not sure. I'll have to do some further testing. But, this does look promising!
Thanks for sharing this. I'll report back after I do some further testing.
What problems are you having?
EDIT: FYI, it seems that 14dBm is the max and 1dBm is the min for the TF700. I have mine set to 1dBm right now. Will try to determine if it actually makes a difference next...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
I finally managed to beat mine into submission, and shows reduced values now. Thanks for confirmation on that. Article showed values much lower than my tab reported. I'm also running at 1
Update: applied this to my phone as well. Added bonus, it drops power while hot spotting, so should use less power. If your tethered, your seldom more than a few feet away. Full power is a waste.
Read of an app called Wi-Fi tf power that supposedly switches power. I can't get it to work. All choices revert you back to default. (well, it does me) and I have to force stop it, reset permissions, and decrease it through term emulator.
Please keep me posted on your findings, and I'll do the same.

Running CleanROM Inheritance here too, of course - is there any other ROM for the TF700?!?!
Unfortunately, I can't say that I've noticed any difference, regardless of what I set this setting to on either my TF700 or my Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 also defaults to 14dBm and when I set either to 1dBm, I don't see any difference on my wireless router - the router runs DD-WRT, so I can see the actual signal strength coming from each device, which should get much lower when going from 14dBm to 1dBm.
I also have an Android phone, but haven't messed with it yet - I've gotten so spoiled by the TF700 keyboard dock and the larger screen size of the Nexus 7, that I try not to do much typing on the phone anymore! In fact, it's not even unlocked (it's a HTC 3D and requires some hardware modification to unlock, I think - never really looked into in that much to be honest).

Yes and maybe integrated in Crom soon I hope.
My sister's family live in the countryside and ADSL there is extremely slow (0.5Mb.)
I tested my 3G speed there with my Nexus 5 and managed to get a speed of 7.5Mb, and thought that they may be able to use a cheap android phone in conjunction with a Moto G to act as a wireless hotspot for the home.
I know Three's One Plan allows tethering through a phone, but not through a 3G router, or MiFi.
Was wondering wether if it would be better to have a router connect to the Moto G's hotspot, and then for devices to connect to the router as it may send out a better wifi signal around the home?
Would be interested in other's thoughts.
Thanks
Doesn't work like that, the devices need to connect directly to the phone. I did this myself for over a year with a note 2 and it was dire, if one person is doing something even remotely demanding, you can forget about anyone else getting any pages loaded.

Hi, thank for your reply.
Was performance really that bad.
As I say, their current connection is dreadful so surely could only be better?
Also whats stopping using a router/wireless bridge connect with the Moto G as the hotspot, then the router/wirelessbridge being the point all devices connect to?
Im just interested in why... not being funny with you
Sorry for the slow reply, I didn't even check this thread (yup I'm a moron lol). I've never tried the method of using a bridge so I can't comment, as for the performance, it will certainly be better for a single person using it (or even a few if it's simple browsing/Facebook games/low res 360p YouTube etc), but if anyone tries HD streaming, or online gaming, or downloading a file, they will get a so-so experience and anyone else won't get a look in.

It should be fine with a router connected to the Moto G's hotspot as a client and eveything else in the house will connect to the router, will get ofcourse better coverage at the house and you can place the Moto G somewhere where it will pick best signal from the mobile network.
