3.0 Honeycomb 0r 4.0 ICS? - Samsung Mesmerize

Is it possible to get Honeycomb or ICS on my USCC Samsung Mesmerize SCH-i500, rooted or not, yet or at all ever or are those only for tablets?
I thought I read an article about 4.0 being ported to smartphone & a way to install it from the SDcard but an emergency came up, my history auto deletes on closing & I haven't been able to find it again

honeymoon is strictly for tablets. ics however has a working port for the fascinate/mesmerize. i haven't tried it, im kind wAiting on one ported specifically for the mez. look on rootzwiki

USCC tech svcs is no big hurry to get ICS to our handsets. They are currently working with Motorola and Samsung to have them develop a new handset with ICS already. As far as an OS Upgrade... Not likely anytime soon.

Ok, thx to both of u for the replies

Hey i did flast the ics for fascinate on my mez and it worked great. I dont think there is any way to tell if uscc will ever port it to the mesmerize but there is a buttload of mez users with the fascinate port of ics on thier phones it really quite awesome

Rumor has it that USCC will be getting the CDMA Galaxy Nexus in Q1 2012... if that happens then thats no doubt where my upgrade will go.

Maybe I should have kept my X10

One of the reasons why I switched from the X10 to the Captivate was because Samsung promised to upgrade to 2.2, while Sony Ericsson stated that it could only upgrade the X10 to 2.1. What Samsung did not say is that its 2.2 upgrade could not do bluetooth voice dialing. This is a big issue for me because California requires hands free use of a cellphone.
So, now with the news that Sony Ericsson will upgrade the X10 to 2.3 after all, I find myself feeling like one of those guys in a V8 commercial. I know there are a couple of custom Roms that allow voice dialing, but I wish Samsung would have supported it. How hard is it, really?
Anyway, I hope Samsung now feels the pressure to update the Captivate to 2.3 too.
XDA Devs > Samsung Devs, so I don't really feel like we need Samsung support.
We've been having Android 2.2 ROMs for close to 6 months now, and we already have some 2.3 ROMs under development (CM7, MIUI), so IMO you shouldn't regret switching to the Cappy (apart from GPS issues )
I think the X10 is the worst android phone ever... no multi touch? that just killed the whole android ecosystem in that phone, I recently got a craptivate while is not the best phone it is million years better than the crappy X10, you can even drop android 4 on it and will think the same.. besides they still have that driver/color issue on all ROMS... trust me you have a good phone (Captivate) Besides there are so many dev's that upgrading to a better android version won't be any issues. just be ready to flash.. and flash A LOT.
Try a custom ROM. Cognition, Perception (discontinued but still a stable, fast ROM) FireFly and most others are running 2.2 with bluetooth voice dialing. I don't know about all, but I know from personal experience those three do.

I sold my x10 to come to the captivate. I got no regrets. Although custom kernels will soon be available as a bypass has been found on the x10. Also it has multitouch now

I thought the multitouch was all janky because the hardware wasn't meant to support it and it was enabled by some software trickery?
Samsung is releasing official Gingerbread to Galaxy S line soon. We will enjoy the GT-i9000 Gingerbread after the sourcecode is released. Very likely much earlier then SE update their device.
One more thing, if your X10 is an AT&T branded device, you might not get the update.

Ice cream sandwich coming in October or November

it seems ice cream sandwich will be out in a Month or two but they said we shouldnt be too happy due to fragmentation. yeah ok that won't stop xda from getting it to its fans

Google is hoping that from ice cream sandwich forward, it will solve the fragmentation issue. ICS is supposed to be able to run on both phones and tablets.
And Google announced a while back that they're going to come out with some sort of standard that forces manufacturers to update their handsets for x amount of years after it is out. Hopefully this will keep most handsets up to date. And that fact that android updates are slowing down will help as well

It will be interesting to say the least, part of the reason most devices have to run rooted is the lack of development on software so desperately needed by devices out of date and in need of corrections that service providers seem to care less about. There is a growing need for carriers to be on the same page when development does make it's way to customers that have been waiting up to a year longer than others for the chance to benefit from the software advertised. It's now at the point that a customer needs to look at a companies track record on software updates being put out in a timely manner before you choose a device, it shouldn't be this way for the money people spend every month just to have the phone fail on you till they get enough complaints about it to do anything.
I'm not concerned over the software being released as much as I am with the service providing it as long as everyone gets the updates within the same time frame as everyone else. It's about time they got it together I just hope it goes as they announced it to be.

Seeing as how we still haven't gotten an official Gingerbread release, I'm guessing we'll never see an official ICS release.

I would say that when the Bionic comes out the Charge will be a thing of the past. Have you noticed that there is nothing new in any forums as far as roms-themes or updates for the Charge.. I think the dev are getting ready to jump the fence for the Bionic.
RIP CHARGE
Bionic is nothing more than a sooped up droid x. 4g speeds are no near charge.

Very incorrect. The devs went to rootzwiki. Also cm7 is almost ported which will unlock other roms being made. No one I know is going to the bionic. They are waiting for nexus prime.

To date the charge is the best phone out point blank

who needs an official update as long as the developers get a good base to start from they do a great job with the builds they release , and to add they make more money if people buy newer updated devices theres a strategy
Uh, does that mean we could port AOSP to ICS?

I will stay with this phone for the full two years if we are promised ICS. If not, I will jump to whatever Nexus phone comes to Verizon as long as it has 4G. We can always hope that the rumors are true and the Nexus will have a super AMOLED plus display.

I think we'll get ICS as an official update. So far, no SGS2 for Verizon and with Google purchasing Moto Mobility, Sammy needs to keep Big Red users happy.
Plus, isn't the Fascinate getting a GB OTA soon?
If I had to bet, I'd bet we see ICS and it will be our last OTA with maybe a maintenance release or two.
P.S. Devs are leaving? False. There is a TREMENDOUS amount of dev work going on for the Charge right now, be thankful.
There's been a slow down from the developers because the source code (or kernel code or something like that) hasn't been released. Without this, to my understanding, its difficult to make roms for phones. The funny part is that since android is open source, they're legally bound to release it. But there's always red tape =P
P.s. did I coin a new acronym? ICS? lol.

Just to be clear, AOSP is Android Open Source Project and is the open source code branch of Android. ICS is Ice Cream Sandwich and is just a new version of Android that will eventually be open sourced by Google. So ICS will become part of AOSP when Google wants it to.

Actually, it's 18 months after a device is released. Not sure if it's already supposed to be in effect yet, though.
Considering that we probably won't get GB until late September/early October, ICS from Samsung is HIGHLY unlikely. They'll probably just leave us in the cold.
So when AOSP gets ICS, will we be able to flash it (assuming we have gb aosp+build bots by that time) without any major modifications?

They released a list of devices that will be supported, there were probably 2 on the list that were single core devices. Mytouch 4g wasn't one of them unfortunately for me.
They already made a ics/miui, so I guess it's all good for boting if your still wondering.

AT&T: No official ICS for Inspire 4G

LG Nitro
Motorola ATRIX 2
Motorola ATRIX 4G
Pantech Burst
Pantech Element
Samsung Captivate Glide
Samsung Galaxy Note
Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
are the device getting ICS this year.
Sucks that HTC announced ICS for DHD but we don't get ICS from AT&T.
Source :- http://www.androidcentral.com/att-provides-ics-list-nothing-surprise-us
But with the devs we have here, we will have ics for sure.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using xda premium
We all knew it wasnt gonna get it. ATT EOL the Inspire a long time ago. This has always been the case with them. Once the DHD gets it then it can be ported over.
I'm not worried about it. The dev's at this site could run a ics on a toaster...
If your rooted already, you wouldn't get the update anyways right?
An official ics bloated to hell at&t version would suck so bad.
I'm pumped my Atrix will have it too. Overclocked to 1.45, that phone is sooo damn fast.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You only need to hop over to the Desire HD forum to see that if you are S-OFF and rooted, you don't need AT&T...
After all the problems that the Gingerbread update had, would you want an official ICS update? Not me, no thank you.
OEM updates cost money to the service providers. I wasn't shocked at all that the DHD was getting it and the I4G wasn't.
Follow the link in my sig for an AOSP ICS ROM that makes a great daily driver.
I still don't understand why these kind of threads continue to pop up around these parts...it's been known AT&T won't give the Inspire ICS. It has been known that the Desire will get it. It has or at least should be known that a handful of devs are pumping out ARs of ICS for the Inspire. It's a known fact that there are literally 10 threads about this same topic that ends the same way: The Inspire isn't getting it but its getting it anyway because the Devs are freakin schweeeeet.
old news is old? Only phone that gets supported beyond the 6month mark is the iphone, and that is because it is supported an updated by apple. android phones dont get that luxury. but id rather have my os be open source so that way i can use custom stuff, as we all know ATT fails at life with their mods to the software updates. i didnt get into rooting and modding till i got that gb update from att and made my phone run like sh*t, id never trust them again. lol

HTC is probably going to support the Desire HD for at least 18 months, it was their flagship at some point, so support will continue until it's specs are limited in some way that doesn't allow further upgrades (The Desire's internal storage was way too small to permit GB Sense or ICS Sense to be loaded.)
I laugh at this thread. My inspire got ICS back in January. All that matters. Props to the devs.

That's because you have a kernel that's filled with hacks that make things very messy and make bugs insanely hard to deal with.
Ok, I know I'm just someone that just sits back and watches things go by, but even if know that there will be no official ICS for the i4g. No offense to the OP or anyone else, but can this just stop? If you want it, just download and flash. If you want to have an official ICS, change phone.

Even with the bugs ICS, and any other rom around here for that matter, is still miles ahead of anything Att or HTC could come up with. Att needs to leave the software up to the real devs here on XDA.

Exactly... The only difference between those devs and our devs is one or two hardware specs.

Pretty much as soon as proper camera support comes out I'm sold on one of the ICS roms out there. And even then its just video camera that they dont have working right, still camera has come a long way.
Been using RCMix 4.0 since November when capy stopped developing it, and it's truly a masterpiece. I'd never even consider using something AT&T put together over our devs. There are some true artists out there.

[Q] Does Rogers intend to do the ICS update for the GS2 LTE eventually?

I've noticed that Rogers has never actually said that they would be doing an official ICS update, that I'm aware of. The fact that we've seen a few leaks from AT&T at least lets us know that they'll be doing it for you guys, but we've seen absolutely nothing from Rogers.
I realize that it doesn't make a huge difference at this point, since we're all rooted running one ICS ROM or another, but I've always found that for me in Canada, ROMs built off of Rogers stock tends to work best, so I'd like that to eventually be possible for ICS.
This doesn't belong here.
Belongs in q&a.

my fault... i realize this is a question, but always thought of the Q&A section as more of a technical section about ROMs and apps, whereas this is more general.

And I think it shall always be stuck on 2.2. Samsung is just making too much profit with the Galaxy S phones to even bother with this Frankenstein of a mediocre phone. I have a Sidekick and I'm using the Clean Fusion v3 rom, which is nice, but it is depressing to know that the company just brushed this phone under the rug.
The specs are not that bbad at all. It comes very close to the features found on the Nexus S. Gingerbread would open up so many possibilities with CyanogenMod and MIUI. I'm tired of theming Froyo... but that's all we got.
