sorry for the noob question...
but of course i did make sure USB debugging is selected...
you see i was already able to flash the unit, meaning i was able to download things before to and from the phone and it did work before...
what i am seeing is some image of an inverted USB icon... and it is saying that it has encountered something so i need to disconnect the phone from the computer...
i tried the SC Card on a different phone and it gets detected, so we can also am=sume that it is not the SD Card...

Hmmmmm.....
Maybe you should wipe the data partition and cache....
You seem to be having quite a lot problems lately......

yeah, i do... coz i try different things... i believe we learn from mistakes, so i make a lot... LOL!
i tried wiping the cache, and formatting the phone, even wiping dalvik's cache...
still no good...
i'll try to flash it probably...
and will there be a bad side effect if i flash my phone ever so often?

Yeah.....
We learn from our mistakes and that's how I learnt about Android....
Na....
There won't be any problem due to over flashing.....
No worries....

you know probably, where i always had a problem is with removing stock apps... because I, most of the time, dont know what the specific app is for... like the lcdtest things... i probably have deleted that unknowingly that caused my brightness settings to force close...
LOL!

ok... so i reflashed thinking it will fix the issue and put the Steel Blue Theme for FitDroid v.2.0
then when i tried to plug in the usb... it still gave the message
"Disconnect storage from PC
We've encountered a problem turning off your U........"
i managed to get a screen shot...

can it be because of the steel blue?

Flash a stock ROM and see if it works.....
If not then something is wrong with your SD Card or something is wrong with your USB Cord....
If it works then it seems to be a problem with one of the modifications.....
I am not sure but themes should not cause USB problems....

well, it does work without the Steel Blue theme ported by Neil.Richard...
so it may be the theme??

If changing the theme helped then its definitely a problem with the theme.

Simple possible answer
Try reformatting your sd card.
I tried connecting to my pc at first, then it wont connect, i thought the answer is the built in kies package, but its not, i just reformatted my memory card. And i can now connect my phone to my pc,
Hope this helped.

That wouldn't help....
reikableu already stated that the USB Mode with the SD Card works when put in another phone.....

exactly... and when the phone is off, using the CWM /mount ext storage the connection works fine even with the theme installed but when i have the phone on with the theme... it doesn't work...

already did that as well... still did not work though...
but like i said, it did work again after re-flashing and not flashing the theme anymore...

dead bootloader what to do next

I've got a dead bootloader. My device doesn't upgrade thru SD and not with USB. can somebody please help me because i realy don't know what to do. My device is dead for almost 3 weeks now
[edit]
Even my backup on SD doesn't load. And this happend after i downgrade the radio version of the well know greek rom
[/edit]
nobody?
Is there a solution to flash only the bootloader?
I think you need to add some more info, if anyone should have a chance to help. For example what happened when it died - how and why? What happens if you remove the battery cover, replaces it and turns on the device? Text on screen, like USB or Serial? Have you tried uploading ROM from different PCs?
The more info you provide, the more likely it is that someone recognizes your situation from own experience and can provide some help.

You are totaly right.
I have update my frvice with the wrong greek rom and now i have the 15 sec reboot thing.
When I startup my device he ends up the bootloader and the only way to get the device booting to windows is remove the battery cover. But the her reboots again after the 15 seconds.
In the bootloader i tried to load my backup with the SD card but nothing happens. I also tried to load a ROM with MaUpgradeUt_NoID but nothing happens. I only get empty version thing.

If i use the regular MaUpgradeUt and change the file change.bat for the xda3nbftool I get a error "error 201: get device data error".
I also tried to backup my device with the wrong ROM on it, to look at the header but nothing happens (romupdate.exe).
So my conclusion is that my bootloader is dead. Please correct me when i'm wrong but if this is the case how can i correct my bootloader.
When you unplug your Magician from the USB cable, what do you see?
If you see (with the backlight OFF) "Serial v1.00" or similar, thats a WORKING bootloader.
Make sure you have Active Sync DISABLED (right click the taskbar icon, click "Connection Settings..." the uncheck "Available by USB".
You should then plug in the USB cable and it should change to "USB v1.00" or similar.
Your PC may detect the connection as new hardware - that is a good sign that you have Active Sync disabled.
Let the New Hardware Wizard do it's thing, then re-run the upgrade setup and it should work.
If not, you've got BIG problems.
guess I'm in big trouble
The only thing i can do, is trying a different pc without ASync. On the current pc i'm working on, USB in activesync is disabled.
Are there any posibilties to reload (rebuilt, update) Bootloader.
Can somebody please help me.
The bootloader is built in as it's own ROM, and I've never seen a utility that can make it writeable. I doubt you've destroyed your bootloader, but that doesn't help you - sounds like you'll have to bite the bullet, act dumber than you are, and return it to the manufacturer for a repair - and probably pay for the privilege.

But isn't it strange that if you can't destroy it, it doesn't work anymore? And isn't there somebody who had the same problem?
Before you give up, try this:
Try using another USB cable.
I have experimented many times to realise that the upgrading process does require matching with the right cable.
I noticed that in the screenshot you posted, there is no info on what the device will be upgrade to! I could be wrong, but this may well mean that your device is incompatible with the ROM you are trying to upload.
Try downloading another ROM and give it a go. The best thing would be, if you can find one made specifically for your brand, ie Qtek, I-mate or whatever, and DON'T patch it. Just let the original installer do the job...

There isn't a orignal rom fot the dutch T-mobile MDA. And if you use a original installer, it uses ActiveSync. And i can't boot windows because it restarts after 15 seconds so I can't use ActiveSync.
Why can't you use an original ROM updater, if you have the Greek resetting ROM installed? I believe a lot of us has done so without any problems, including me. I don't remember precisely what I did, but it was no problem whatsoever. Most likely I just entered bootloader mode first, to keep the Magician from resetting...

I really tried everything but without any results. I realy don't know why i can't use the original ROM updater.
I have the similar problem, but mine one doesnt even start windows. It always go into the bootloader mode and stays there. I try upgrading it, but it gives me communication errors.
Do this
This is what you do.
Disconnect your JAm from USB
Go from your PC , ACTIVESYNC > FILE > CONNECTION SETTINGS > remove the check mark for ALLOW USB CONNECTION TO THIS DESKTOP COMPUTER
Now connect your JAM to your PC again via USB, this time active sync should not start since you have disabled USB
Now double click on the installer file of the original ROM and you should be good to go
After Reset , enable USB ,
Go from your PC , ACTIVESYNC > FILE > CONNECTION SETTINGS > Put a check mark for ALLOW USB CONNECTION TO THIS DESKTOP COMPUTER
MDA dead
I have tried.... it's not responsing as it should be.

USB and ADB Not recognized on Nexus S I9023 ???

Hi!
I disconnected by accidently the USB cable while the phone was at the ClockWorkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0/-mounts and storage/-mount USB storage.
Now the problem is he does not want to connect the USB or even the ADB. When I connect to the PC via USB cable the only indicate that the battery is charging. I connected it ( to see if it works) at on the laptop with win7 sp1 with full update and with internet active , but Nexus S is still the same (no way for connecting usb or adb). The big problem now is that the Windows no longer sees it.
I can manage /sdcard with Root_explorer , but I cant mount it even Auto Mount. I can install any rom from my /sdcard( that it's work) . Waiting for your answer ( I still have CWM Recovery 5.0.2.0- I have not tried android 2.3.3 stock version for fear of running out clokworkmod recovery ). Thank's in advanced....
perhaps cable damage?
Nexus S's USB slot is Micro USB , it's easy to buy one cable of this port
and did you see this(red line) in your computer ?

Hey Surdu, I have the same problem with my Nexus S, and so does a lot of other Nexus owners. I have googled this problem many times and the only solution I have come across was somewhere on code.Google.com.
Turn of your phone, and take out the battery for a minute or two, and then put it back in and boot your phone.
For me, this problem comes again and again, and all I can do is pull the battery once more.
Hope this was of help, good luck.

I tried several times (I left and five minutes without battery) - no result
I tried to connected it on ubuntu 11.10, windows xp, windows 7 ( via usb cable) , but unfortunately with no result. When connecting the USB cable nothing happens with all the operating systems, only the battery is charging.
When reboot the phone I can see the icon and the message on status bar :
Preparing usb storage.....I can manage usb storage (/sdcard with Astro or Es FilesExplorer)... I have installed Auto Mount SDcard , (checking on) Enable SD card Auto-Mounting - but when I connected usb cable nothing happens --Does this mean that the externel boot partition is broken ??? I have no ideea
My nexus s had an issue where it wouldn't mount USB, turns out the little metal flap insider the port had bent slightly and used a small screwdriver to bend it back into place, works flawlessly now!

[Q] Nexus S USB Mount Problems [Q]

My phone can only charge but not be recognized on USB, when I plug it into my computer it says it's unrecognizable from my computer (like an error pops up). It wasn't like this before I installed the new update to the cygeonmod rom. I tried going back to stock gingerbread, other roms. Like at least 4 roms i've tried I just don't know what to do now. Any Ideas?
Are you trying to access the storage or use development tools (like adb) via USB?
Also, have you tried with a different USB port (preferably one on the motherboard of your computer)?

I'm just trying to access the storage, I've tried different usb ports but it just keeps saying USB Device Not Recognized.
I'm assuming you're using Windows... can you go under Device Manager and see if there is one with an exclamation mark (!) when your device is plugged in?

Had the same problem and it ended up being a faulty USB cable. Pretty unlikely, but try a different cable and see if that helps.

I've tried different usb cables with different computers and with different usb slots in each computer. Nothing works. Is it possible that my nexus s is missing a file allowing me to connect usb to my computer? Because every computer I use it says USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED so I was just wondering if that's the case.

It sounds like your problem can be isolated to the phone, but I'm not familiar with working in a Windows environment. I'd try booting into (the phone's) Recovery and seeing if you can mount the drive from there. Might help you isolate whether or not your issue is related to a particular volume.

I tried that going into the phone's recovery mode and plugging in the usb cord and it still says the same thing. When I go into further like clicking the message it gives me a Code 43 warning on my computer. I also tried hard factory resetting my phone when I was on the phone with Samsung and that didn't work either. Everything was fine before I flashed Cygenmod rom on my phone everything was perfect.

Nexus S Woes
I had the exact same story and errors as tdog1o1, and the ONLY fix I found useful was on an mp3 forum.
" I had code 43 problems with my usb ports until I found a thread on MSI's website. My front panel usb ports connected to a 9 pin usb header on the motherboard. Only 8 pins are needed. If pin 9 has a black ground wire then remove it. I didnt give this fix much hope but it fixed my problems! "
After many hours of driver installs, front usb port changes, and a dozen reboots, this actually worked!
I merely used the USB at the back of the computer and Voila!
Looks Wind Slash nailed it at the beginning of this thread.

I am having the exact problem, have found a solution.

[Q] Problem connection my blaze with USB

Ive had this phone for a week or so and have since rooted it. But I am now having trouble connecting using USB. I can connect it to my PC and it will show 2 removable drives in my list of drives in explorer but I cannot access them. I also cannot mount my SD card in CWM. It doesnt show any removable drives when I try in explorer.
This all worked fine until I tried installing Samsung Kies which seems to be a POS and somehow screwed my drivers up. Ive removed them, got Kies off my system even went so far as to remove the Samsung drivers off my system and use Revo Uninstaller Pro to get any remnants off only to reinstall and have the same issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Im using Win 7 64bit. With this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918608
I also tried this to no avail.
First uninstall Kies from your PC and make sure you doesn't leave behind any files.
Uninstallation of the software and the drivers installed by Kies I suggest using Revo uninstaller to do that.
Uninstall it from your PC then make a fresh installation.
Open Kies but do not connect your phone, if it wants to update Kies, go ahead and do it.
Close Kies, connect your phone and open Kies.

1st let me say Im an idiot on forgetting to mount the USB that way but it wasnt asking me I had to look on the notifications and tap from there.
But that still leaves me unable to mount from within CWM. I attempt to mount my SD card and it doesnt show anything, now I also installed ROM Manager and flashed CWM Touch in between my rooting and now, could this somehow have screwed things up?
Something else I just noticed since the 2 removable drives are now accessible, thanks to you helping me realize I was forgetting something important, both of these drives seem to have what may be important stuff on them but also seem like it may be duplicated or being a bit new to this it could just be the way its supposed to be.

You are a gentleman and a scholar, thank you very much.

[Q] how to unbrick? sdcard wont show in win/osx

so i manged something incredible, i managed to format my sdcard in CWM, was ment to click format/system but didnt doubble check and clicked format/sdcard. so now i have no backups and i already wiped everything else so i dont have any system to boot into. was trying ubuntu so not that it would help to much i think.
but now i cant even get the sdcard to show up. i boot up into CWM recovery and go to mount usb storage (mounts and storage/mount USB storage) but nothing comes up on either win7 or osx. in win7 i get an error could not find drivers to install device.
do i need the android SDK to get the drivers? if i just could get a CM10 image or somthing on there it would be good.
btw this is my backup device so im not in a hurry to fix this. was just curious on how ubuntu felt, so tried that and was a little to quick on the trigger when formating.

Which version of CWM are you using? Versions more recent than 6.0.1.0 have trouble mounting the SD card.

6 what? That's what's important. You can connect your phone and reflash to an older version using fastboot, such as v5.0.8.2 which is very stable and can mount the USB storage. Then you can transfer a rom to your sd and install it.

yeah seems downloading the android SDK and installing USB drivers, + restarting PC and pointing device manager to driver location is not enough. just get could not install drivers.
gonna try your link now

That android 1.0 thing is a driver issue. .... Happened to me once when i was setting my adb fastboot folders and drivers again . ..you should really use the pda driver
You will not see the missing driver android 1.0 after ....
And when your drivers are set.... Try a factory image in fastboot...or...my worst case scenario...odin.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app

As I said you need to flash a previous version of CWM. 6.0.2.5 won't mount your SD card. Nowt hat your phone gets detected properly in device manager, fastboot will see it, so you can flash 5.0.8.2 or 6.0.1.0 to your phone. Then you can mount the SD.
how are you not getting this. the phone is dead, i have no OS on the phone, i managed to wipe everything. OS SD card etc. now i cant get into my SD card when connecting to computer.
doesn't matter if im in fastboot or CWM in fastboot my computer recognizes an android 1.0 device. CWM a nexus s device. but nothing more. cant for the life of me figure out how the hell im supposed to get a firmware on to the phone, if i could get into sd card i could jut do it from CWM but no luck..
exactly how im i supposed to just flash CWM to 5.0.8.2? explain like im 5! remember cant do it from android OS since that doesn't exist on the phone, and cant do it from SD-card since that is a no show.

If you're going to get aggressive I won't go on and help you.
As I wrote: fastboot
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_fastboot_intro#Installing_recovery_using_fastboot
The fact the OS doesn't boot is irrelevant. Instead of downloading the whole Android SDK, you can get fastboot and adb from here:
http://dottech.org/downloads/adb_fastboot_and_other_tools.zip
Turn your phone off. Then hold VOL + and press POWER. Brings you to fastboot menu, where it shows 4 menus and a green Andy in the background

On this screen, you can use fastboot as described in the link above to flash a custom recovery. Your phone needs to be connected via USB, and the drivers installed (PDA.net drivers were for that)
The command is pretty straight forward:
fastboot flash recovery your_recovery_image.img
your_recovery_image.img being the file you want to flash.
Suggested recoveries:
CWM 5.0.8.2 or 6.0.1.0.
So once you're done flashing your recovery, you can reboot, this time to recovery. From there, as mentioned earlier, you can mount your USB storage, transfer a rom, and so forth.
