[Q] how to unbrick? sdcard wont show in win/osx - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i manged something incredible, i managed to format my sdcard in CWM, was ment to click format/system but didnt doubble check and clicked format/sdcard. so now i have no backups and i already wiped everything else so i dont have any system to boot into. was trying ubuntu so not that it would help to much i think.
but now i cant even get the sdcard to show up. i boot up into CWM recovery and go to mount usb storage (mounts and storage/mount USB storage) but nothing comes up on either win7 or osx. in win7 i get an error could not find drivers to install device.
do i need the android SDK to get the drivers? if i just could get a CM10 image or somthing on there it would be good.
btw this is my backup device so im not in a hurry to fix this. was just curious on how ubuntu felt, so tried that and was a little to quick on the trigger when formating.

Which version of CWM are you using? Versions more recent than 6.0.1.0 have trouble mounting the SD card.

6 what? That's what's important. You can connect your phone and reflash to an older version using fastboot, such as v5.0.8.2 which is very stable and can mount the USB storage. Then you can transfer a rom to your sd and install it.

yeah seems downloading the android SDK and installing USB drivers, + restarting PC and pointing device manager to driver location is not enough. just get could not install drivers.

That android 1.0 thing is a driver issue. .... Happened to me once when i was setting my adb fastboot folders and drivers again . ..you should really use the pda driver
You will not see the missing driver android 1.0 after ....
And when your drivers are set.... Try a factory image in fastboot...or...my worst case scenario...odin.

As I said you need to flash a previous version of CWM. 6.0.2.5 won't mount your SD card. Nowt hat your phone gets detected properly in device manager, fastboot will see it, so you can flash 5.0.8.2 or 6.0.1.0 to your phone. Then you can mount the SD.

how are you not getting this. the phone is dead, i have no OS on the phone, i managed to wipe everything. OS SD card etc. now i cant get into my SD card when connecting to computer.
doesn't matter if im in fastboot or CWM in fastboot my computer recognizes an android 1.0 device. CWM a nexus s device. but nothing more. cant for the life of me figure out how the hell im supposed to get a firmware on to the phone, if i could get into sd card i could jut do it from CWM but no luck..
exactly how im i supposed to just flash CWM to 5.0.8.2? explain like im 5! remember cant do it from android OS since that doesn't exist on the phone, and cant do it from SD-card since that is a no show.

If you're going to get aggressive I won't go on and help you.
As I wrote: fastboot
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_fastboot_intro#Installing_recovery_using_fastboot
The fact the OS doesn't boot is irrelevant. Instead of downloading the whole Android SDK, you can get fastboot and adb from here:
http://dottech.org/downloads/adb_fastboot_and_other_tools.zip
Turn your phone off. Then hold VOL + and press POWER. Brings you to fastboot menu, where it shows 4 menus and a green Andy in the background

On this screen, you can use fastboot as described in the link above to flash a custom recovery. Your phone needs to be connected via USB, and the drivers installed (PDA.net drivers were for that)
The command is pretty straight forward:
fastboot flash recovery your_recovery_image.img
your_recovery_image.img being the file you want to flash.
Suggested recoveries:
CWM 5.0.8.2 or 6.0.1.0.
So once you're done flashing your recovery, you can reboot, this time to recovery. From there, as mentioned earlier, you can mount your USB storage, transfer a rom, and so forth.

[Q] Stuck in Clockwork Mod Recovery with no access to external SD

On friday i booted down my TF101 B70 and when i booted it back up could not get into Android, tried Cold Boot Linux tried Wipe Data. Did not work.
I do still have my ClockworkMod Recovery v5.5.0.4 which i keep booting into.
The problem is I am able to access the interal memory but my superwipe and Revolution HD files are not on there (if this is fixed, i will never make that mistake again)
I formatted my 2gb micro sd and loaded superwipe and revolutionHD, but cwm recovery does not see it.
I hooked up the TF101 to my pc to see if there was any way I can get access to the internal SD but i cannot connect as it is an unknown device on Win 7 64bit, which i cannot find drivers for. (Tried Asus Sync, Tries Asus' page for usb, even tried the APX drivers)
My question is how can i gain access to the internal SD to place my superwipe and revolution hd to flash and save my beloved TF101? is there a way i can access it with ADB? im pretty sure mine is the SDKv2 which is not accessible (sorry if i wrote that wrong)
any insight will help. Thanks!
use adb push command to send giles from the pc to the main storage or use gnufabio's recover install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180 to install a cwm version which could access external sd card
do i do adb push from and set the tf101 into apx mode or while in cwm recovery?

You can use ADB in recovery. DO NOT put the Superwipe script back in because once you use it, it will wipe everything again. Just ADB push your ROM file to internal sd and use option inside CWM to wipe your TF.
when i am in APX mode, usind adb shell i get " error: device not found"
when i am in recovery, win7 cannot find the right driver for the device. it just sits in "other devices" in device manager as "Transformer"
btw, thank you guys for your input.

Here is what Win 7 64bit shows when I am in ClockworkMod Recovery v5.5.0.4
I've never really used adb under win. have you installed the dev drivers from asus site? i don't have theexact url at the moment, i'm sorry.
from asus' site i only tried the asus sync and ASUS_Android_USB_drivers_for_Windows. i will see if they have dev drivers on their page.
Nothing that i could find on the Asus site:
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+TF101&p=20&s=16
I also installed from SDK Manager "Google USB Driver" still nothing
Try the driver out of ViperMod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427125
When you're in the Device manager right click and chose update driver.
Point it to the driver location.
tried those, still will not accept those tried from within the "Driver" folder and Android MTP and tethering each one by itself.
This driver business is driving me nuts.
What about ASUS sync? That's what work for me
yep same issue. I just tried on a win xp 32bit netbook.
when i connect the TF101 it shows up as an Unknown device but the device name is "Transformer" and no matter what driver i try, it does not install the driver.
maybe is there something weird about Clockwork Mod Rocovery v5.5.0.4
installed Asus sync on win xp 32, did not update the drivers, also went directly into c:\program files\ASUS\ASUS Drivers for Windows\ that also didnt like it.
what is it with this ver of CWM that it wont like the drivers?

But people with that CWM used ADB to fix the same problem you are having though.
Can you find someone in real life who already has transformer and adb drivers working on their computer? You should plug your TF into their computer and see if ADB works. If adb still doesn't work, then it's safe to say you are screwed I think.
Or find a working transformer and plug that into your computer and see what happens with drivers.
there is something weird about it that i have never experianced using cwm on a sgs2 and sgs.
when i go into CWM, and try for instance "install from sd card" then "choose file from sdcard" it takes a good 5 minutes to pull up anything, all you see for a while is the cwm logo in the center, then after about 5 6 minutes all the folders i have on there appear.
another thing i just noticed right now, after i reboot from cwm there a destinct click from the device on the back where the camera is....
this is not looking good
EDIT: nvmd supposedly this is normal

Another uopdate,

[Q] ADB not recognizing phone on USB when its booted android, fine in recovery

Hey everyone, basically just what the title says. I plug it into the computer via USB, and ADB will not see the device when it's booted into Android. However when I boot it into recovery, it sees it fine.
I'm running Cyanogen 9 for a rom and TWRP for recovery.
Booted into android:
C:\Users\Michael>adb devices
List of devices attached
Booted into recovery:
C:\Users\Michael>adb devices
List of devices attached
b3fe68e1 recovery
I've tried installing drivers, deleting drivers, reinstalling drivers, rebooting, countless times now. Samsung's own software Kies won't even recognize the phone.
I am able to use ADB over wifi with ADB Wireless.
C:\Users\Michael>adb devices
List of devices attached
10.0.0.99:5555 device
Oh, and I can turn on USB Storage and access the filesystem with no problems.. so that works fine.
Am I going crazy or has someone else had this same problem? Thanks everyone.
Sorry for the silly question but have you enabled it in settings? That may or may not help you:thumbup:

I should have posted that in my original thread.. but yes I have it enabled. I tried having ADB over network enabled just to see if it would help.. but it did't.
Is "USB Debugging" in the phone (inside Android) checked ? check this option and see..
PS:sorry if it is enabled ... ROM problem ? did adb work on stock ROM ?
Yep it is enabled. It did not work with the stock rom either and the only reason I know that is because my wife just got the same phone yesterday and I noticed it wasn't working while trying to root it.
Start all over again ...
Uninstall all drivers for the device and kies..
Install adb and USB driver for the phone and try again ...
You seem to have a software problem (a driver issue) somewhere around your PC (are you on Mac or Windows ?)

Yeah I agree it must be something to do with Windows. I will try installing the drivers and such on a computer at work on Monday and see what gives.
In the mean time I uninstalled everything and rebooted. Then I downloaded the drivers from Samsung's website, from here:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...27_GS_II_Skyrocket_USB_Driver_v1_3_2200_0.exe
I also read this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415051
and the #2 article points to: ATT_i777_GS2_USB_Drivers.zip
So I tried installing that too. Still nothing.
I took a couple screenshots during the process, maybe it will raise a red flag to one of you guys because I certainly can't figure this out.
When I plug in my phone, the "Android" device is what comes and goes. I've tried updating the drivers for that and pointing them to the Samsung drivers directory, just says it can't find them.
I admit to still being new around the whole android development thing, but with Windows I'm pretty proficient, I just can't figure out what I'm missing.
Just out of curiosity, why do you need to access adb with the phone not in recovery? You can do push pull commands through adb even if phone is in recovery

Personally I just like being able to have access to use adb. I can still use it over wifi using "adb wireless" so it's not a complete loss -- but for some reason the fact that the usb isn't working is just bothering me.
I'm not going to spend much more time fighting with it.. I'm sure it has something to do with the windows and the drivers.

Hey I know this thread is a week old or so, but I just wanted to let you know I found the problem. The problem was actually the Cyanogenmod ROM I had installed.
I was having a few other unrelated problems with that rom so I decided to try SkyICS, and low and behold.. I can now access adb via usb.
Just wanted to put the solution forward and maybe it will shine light on someone else's problem.
Thanks again to everyone for all their help.

Not exactly a solution though, in that Sky ICS is still a TW-based ROM (as in, based off the stock ROM) and not an AOSP-based ROM like CM9 or AOKP.
I also had this issue. The problem was in fact a Windows driver issue though, even though I had installed them already. When I went to Device Manager it would always show up as generic "Android" device with no driver under "other devices". I right-clicked it, Selected "Update device drivers" and then I believe there was an option to select drive from existing installed drivers. I'm on my linux partition right now so I forget what the precise option dialogue was, but it was a separate option from the "Browse my computer" option. From there it opened up a long list and I scrolled down and found one of the Samsung entries listed. I believe it was Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (there were others like SAMSUNG in all caps, etc.). I then selected the driver from the list within that Samsung group and ADB worked again.

[Q] Problem connection my blaze with USB

Ive had this phone for a week or so and have since rooted it. But I am now having trouble connecting using USB. I can connect it to my PC and it will show 2 removable drives in my list of drives in explorer but I cannot access them. I also cannot mount my SD card in CWM. It doesnt show any removable drives when I try in explorer.
This all worked fine until I tried installing Samsung Kies which seems to be a POS and somehow screwed my drivers up. Ive removed them, got Kies off my system even went so far as to remove the Samsung drivers off my system and use Revo Uninstaller Pro to get any remnants off only to reinstall and have the same issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Im using Win 7 64bit. With this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918608
I also tried this to no avail.
First uninstall Kies from your PC and make sure you doesn't leave behind any files.
Uninstallation of the software and the drivers installed by Kies I suggest using Revo uninstaller to do that.
Uninstall it from your PC then make a fresh installation.
Open Kies but do not connect your phone, if it wants to update Kies, go ahead and do it.
Close Kies, connect your phone and open Kies.

1st let me say Im an idiot on forgetting to mount the USB that way but it wasnt asking me I had to look on the notifications and tap from there.
But that still leaves me unable to mount from within CWM. I attempt to mount my SD card and it doesnt show anything, now I also installed ROM Manager and flashed CWM Touch in between my rooting and now, could this somehow have screwed things up?
Something else I just noticed since the 2 removable drives are now accessible, thanks to you helping me realize I was forgetting something important, both of these drives seem to have what may be important stuff on them but also seem like it may be duplicated or being a bit new to this it could just be the way its supposed to be.

Moto G CM 12 - Can´t get it on my phone - device not listed in adb

Good morning guys
I have a very huge problem. I tried to install CM on my Moto G (2013) with this walkthrough:
Every worked fine, till the last point. My device is not listed in adb. if I type in "adb devices" it is not listed, therefore I am not able to put CM on my internal storage
I have learnt, that I used to enable USB debug first, but I didn´t. My device is listed in the "Gerätemanager" (sorry, I forgot the english expression) Now I am stucked, either in "warning bootloader unlocked" screen or on the "Team win recovery Project mode" screen (which works fine) or on in the fastboot Flash mode
I have basically two question:
- Is it possible to enable USB debug by any other method?
- Is it possible to get CM on my phone by any other method?
What I did:
Installed Google USB Driver
Installed Moto G Software Suite
What I am using:
Windows 10
I would appreciate some help as my phone is stuck now with no OS
Best regards!

Do you have Custom Recovery, like TWRP or ClockworkMod installed? If so, you should be able to copy the .zip of the CM build onto a MicroSD card (maybe with the help of a friend's phone if you don't have a backup phone yourself) and install it via the recovery.
Yes! I am using TWRP. The main issue I am facing is, that I can´t put the files on the internal storage. The Moto G hasn´t a Micro SD Card either.
My device is not listed in adb! If I put "adb devices" in the console there is a blank space where the model of my phone should be
Oh snap, forgot about the missing slot since my 4G has one. In that, sorry for my Bad advice. But: Google "ADB sideload twrp", maybe the web can help?

Don´t worry. I appreciate every advice. Sideload won´t work either, as I always get the error message: "device not found"
You may need to install drivers. Does Windows not see a USB device at all? TWRP supports MTP which should work out of the box on Windows 10 (at least it did when I tested it with a different device on the Win10 preview).
Other alternatives:
* Copy your ROM to the device while running Android
* Use USB OTG storage
One thing that popped into my mind: Have you installed the Android SDK before trying anything? I did that on my Win10 machine and had no problems whatsoever talking to the phone via adb / fastboot.
/edit: Just realized that you probably have adb installed if you say that it doesn't recognize your device there. Try running the command line in admin mode and temporarily disabling anti virus software?

No, with Windows is everything fine. My PC regocnizes the device.
I can´t run Android, as I already wiped everything!
What is USB OTG storage?

You can flash a zip straight from USB otg (on the go). They sell either USB otg kits to use a regular USB or they also have USBs that act like your standard USB with a mini USB connector on one side and regular USB connector on the other. I use mine all the time.
Just insert in your phones mini USB slot on the bottom. After you have transferred your zip file to it of course, and flash from it in twrp.

So that's basically like a USB Memory Stick for the smartphone? Gotta get meself one of those then, eh?
Hi.
If you are in fastboot mode then you should type "fastboot devices" instead of "adb devices"
Adb and fastboot mode are different that's why the console doesn't recognize your phone.

Another option is boot into TWRP and connect the phone to PC and finally copy the ROM. Its easier and faster than sideload.
The moto g doesn't have a microsd card slot but it doesnt matter because TWRP makes the PC recognize the phone in MTP mode.
Hope this helps

Help!!!!Accidentally wiped out OS on phone

Folks,
I was trying to clean up my oneplus one yesterday and have accidentally wiped the OS on it. I still have TWRP 3.0.2(I believe the latest installed on it). I imagine to get it rooted and put a custom ROM on it, I would need to first bring it back to stock rom since there is nothing on it now. The issue is when I'm trying to put it fastboot mode the command line "fastboot devices" does not recognize the device so I can't even move forward to the next steps. I have installed the latest version of the SDK tools which has the google driver. Not sure if I am missing something..Would appreciate if someone could please guide me in moving forward.
Much Thanks

Dont worry dude, first
1. Download Rom and put on Flaskdisk
2. Open TWRP
4. Flash the rom on flaskdisk using USB OTG
5. Profit

Or connect your phone to PC. Have phone on twrp and transfer files and flash. I do this usually on every clean flash.

Open twrp -> mount -> internal storage -> connect to PC via USB -> copy the ROM -> flash it. It will get you a OS, Then root it by flashing SuperSu. And for fastboot ... Do you have device driver installed? If no check for universal drivers on google.

Thank you for the response. I did put the device in twrp and connected my device to the PC but nothing popped up to drag anywhere? I thought it might be a driver thing but when I did connect my device to the PC(while in twrp) I can hear a sound on the PC which tells me that it does know a device connected, just nothing happens after that?
Anything I'm missing??

Do your laptop give you a window with your phone name and it's storage?
If no then your device drivers aren't working.... Maybe you should google a clean way to install drivers again ...

I tried installing this particular ROM on an empty OS instead of the Stock Rom mentioned earlier. I'm getting the attached error:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/rom-cm-12-builds-t3045053 (maybe because it's a rooted ROM??)
could you guide me towards a link where I can install a ROM to at least an OS on my phone...
Appreciate all your help!!

Follow this step dude:
1. Open TWRP and Wipe System, Data, Cache, and Dalviak
2. Flash Firmware/Modem. C6 0214 or C7 00011
3. After that try flash the ROM (Jgcaap) again.
5. Profit.
