Additional Settings / Launcher Customization - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

I've been searching and searching and searching for some app that will give better access to the various settings on the kindle. Things like change the clock to 24h or change the default program for various actions.
I've also been searching for some way to change the settings in Go Launcher EX. It's spacing the icons out in a strange way and only lets me put icons in a 4x4 grid with tons and tons of wasted space. I also can't find ANY documentation on the Go Launcher site. I'd like to customize the buttons at the bottom, I don't need a "dial phone" or "open contacts" button on a tablet.
I've not yet found another launcher that runs on the kindle either or I'd be looking for that launcher's customization options. (tried Launcher pro, crashes on start)
Anyone got something working they can share?

Get ADW Launcher EX. VERY customizable, including the launch buttons at the bottom.
//Tapatalk.KindleFire//

I would 2nd ADW Launcher over Go Launcher. It seems to be a lot more customizable. I didn't like the icon spacing either, and using ADW on my Droid, I figured I'd give it a go. Together with Beautiful Widgets, I get something that looks pretty decent IMHO. I even like the Amazon wallpaper!

Go Launcher Ex allows to change spacing on the home screens. Of course, I don't have my kindle right here with me, but it's something like Menu>Preferences>Display>Rows/Columns. It allows to change the rows and columns individually.

I'v found this, it only lets me go up to 5 either way, 4 or 5 only, not any useful number.
I'll look into adw launcher. Thanks for that though guys.

Yes it does, you can set a bunch of rows and columns on the homescreen. I have 7 rows and 6 columns. The only aspect where you are limited to 5x5 is the app drawer.
EDIT:
Menu > Preferences > Screen Settings > Grid Size > Custom Grids

So, I can't get adw.launcher to run, it just crashes on start up. I had to sideload the app since it wouldn't appear in the market. The market says adw.launcher is not compatible with the kindle fire. How did you guys get it to work?

You most likely have to copy it to /system/app and set permissions. I was having the same problem and didn't want to re-root, so I went with Go Launcher instead.
You are able to customize both the desktop and app drawer grid size, btw. Each can have rows x columns set to 10. I have ADW on my Atrix, but honestly Go Launcher is working out just fine for my KF.
*Edit*FYI, I downloaded the latest Go Launcher .apk straight from their site. Maybe that's why some people have limited options under preferences?

It's kind of funny, I bought ADW because Go launcher wasn't showing up on the market, and now it's the opposite.

[GUIDE] How to customize the new ADW Dockbar [UPDATE]

since i searched this and asked in the QA section and no one was able to answer. i figured it out myself and though i would post a little guide here for everyone to find.
ADW 1.3.2 has been released and now you can customize the original dockbar as well. with the new version you are now able to move the center app drawer button anywhere you like. you can even remove it as well.
Requirements are ADW 1.2.0
1. menu > settings > adwlauncher > UI settings
2. make sure that there is a check next to Dockbar
3. return to home screen and then long press on the app tray button and then drag it up until is disappears
4. now you should have completely blank dockbar at the bottom
5. long press on your screen as if you were adding a widget > select custom shortcut
6. from here pick you activity, once you have chosen activity such as an application like gmail, press the icon and select you custom icon
7. when finished you will have a shortcut to your app you selected, select the app and drag it to the blank dockbar and whala custom dockbar icons in ADW
you can place as many shortcuts as you want into the dockbar and it becomes scrollable just like LPs dockbar. ADW currently allows 6 dockbar icons visible as opposed to LPs 5. with about 15mins of your time you can have customized ADW like mine below. also, if you customized dockbar disappears and you see the original dockbar, just simply long press on the app draw and swipe up and your customized one will return.
with the release of 1.3.2 and being able to customize the app draw icon you can not have 2 seperate fully customizable dockbars. the primary 5 icon drawer and the swipeable scrolling one below.
1. go to menu-settings-adwlauncher-ui settings-main dock style; select 5 icons
2. follow the instructions above to customize the dockbar
3. swipe the main dockbar up to get to the scrollable dockbar and customize it.
4. swiping up and down between the two dockbars is pretty self explanatory.

you need the new 1.3 version of adw for this. if you already have, it all you have to do is create a custom shortcut like in the op and drag it to the original app drawer.

Great. Any suggestions as to how to get it back when you've dragged something over it inadvertently?

[HOMESCREEN] Cover Flow Home screen

ok so this is a little guide on how to get the 'cover flow' style homescreen. first off, i think some of you (ok well a small minority) will be happy to know that it doesnt require root. all you need is launcher pro or adw luncher and multipicture live wallpaper. now there is a drawback to this method, which is you cant change your wallpaper unless you edit the .psds provided. oh and just for the record i am currently using miui rom but it is not needed. ok so here we go.
1) download the coverflowwallpapers.zip containing the wallpaper for each page
2) download either adw launcher or launcher pro from the market and apply as default home screen
3) get rid of the dock bar and icons from the launcher. it would be a good idea to set a swipe gesture to show the app drawer so you still have access to all your apps. i would also recommend changing the number of home screen rows to 5 to compensate for the row lost due to the thumbnails.
4) download MultiPicture live wallpaper from the market.
5) go to select wallapaper/live wallapers/then select multipicture and then press settings
5) using the images you downloaded from this post and change the wallpaper for each page. (seeing as im a nice guy i numbered them for you)
6) finally, got to the transition type and choose your favourite one. i chose to go with wipe as it makes the thumbnails look like they are rotating but some of the others look great too.
so there it is. hopefully this tutorial isnt too hard to follow. also if you have your won ideas/modifications, post them here cos i wanna see them too
heres a crappy video of it in action
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx0uGYOUWR0
thanks for doing this! trying it now.
2) download either adw launcher or launcher pro from the market and apply as default home screen
How'd you make it default?
Hit the home button and then a prompt will show your available home screens and launchers. Check the radio button on the bottom of the pop up and select adw or launcherpro. You can clear the "default" if you decide to do something else and not use LP or ADW.

The way I am doing it is by replacing the icons with a blank icon. Essentially the icons are still there, but invisible and I can still assign a swipe up gesture if I wanted to.
You probably don't want to use the term "cover flow" as I would be willing to bet Apple has a trademark on that term.

2. since no one is really taking the initiative can you make several different walls and icons for us?

sorry I simply don't have the time to do that. this setup was initially made for me but some people asked me to share how I done it so I did. I knew not everyone would like the wallpaper and/or icons which is I why I uploaded the .psd file. there's only so much I can. also it doesn't seem like many people are interested but that's cool as i know this kind of setup is not for everyone.
Don't be discouraged. I've liked this setup since I first saw it--it's very different. If I hadn't just rehauled my own homescreens, I'd be slavishly copying yours.
I do have the time and tools to make something out of your .psd too, so maybe when I get home (i.e. to the PC with photoshop installed) I might try my hand at it.

can someone please tell me how to get Go Launcher HD to work, regardless of my screen size. My DPI is high enough, and so is my resoolution, in fact i am running in tablet mode of ICS, however GO Launcher reads screen physical size, and screws up.
Seems to work well on my Xoom running ICS 4.0.4. I wish that once you create a folder and drop a number of icons in it that you could then sort those apps / games in an order you would want.
Also when you have placed a shortcut on the desktop I can't seem to edit its name.
I love it on my Iconia. Just wish I didn't have to keep alphabetizing my app drawer lol.
test in acer a501 is success great
Very nice. For me it needs to be a little smoother in the homescreen (on the Galaxy Tab 8.9), but everywhere else its great.
It looks great, and it's smooth, but I have a problem with icons, they are all blurry.
tested on p1000 cm9. very quick no laggy.
would be super if we modify the dock.

Works fine on my dell insprion 1300 running android x86 ics.
I have a galaxy player 4.0 running cm7 beta with a DPI of 120. original DPI was 240 but I lowered to 120 to fit more stuff on the screen and to get the netflix tablet ui. Go launcher HD shows as compatible with my device but when I install and run it, it says I should use the phone version.
I guess this app will not support mini tablets?
update:
I can hit cancel on the screen that says use the phone version. it works for a couple of seconds then restarts and the same message appears.
I know the screen is 4 inches but I think it looks nice and I would be using it if the messages about having to use the phone version was not popping up.
Have a look at this modded HD launcher..

I just wish for the ability to apply a decent theme to the GO Calender Widget, otherwise this is the perfect launcher for me.
4.5 out of 5 : will upgrade to 5 when I can apply themes to GO Widgets.

still works nice on Nexus 7 4.2 ? (I have bugs and lags since the update...)
This is literally the only launcher I've been able to get to work well on the Kindle Fire HD 8.9". So, thank you for making it so well designed!
However, unlike most other launchers, it doesn't seem to support being able to set arbitrary images as wallpapers. Maybe I'm missing something, but the wallpaper seems to only include backgrounds from installed themes. It would be really nice to have a built-in way to access other wallpapers, without having to use a third-party app.
Anyone found a way to sort icons in folder? The phone version can do that, but I could not find it in this Tablet HD version.

Lightning Launcher by PierroX
Fastest launcher on Xperia Play. 60KB download. Works on GB and ICS. Customization is incredible.
Lose the fat, keep the muscle. Be warned, Lightning Launcher is on steroïds.
This application has been designed to minimize memory usage and be fast: the more memory you have for your applications, the faster they will run. In other words Lightning Launcher has been built from the ground to preserve your phone's resources and keep it smooth.
In spite of its ridiculously small size (less than 60kb!), Lightning Launcher is packed with a fair amount of features and brings to Android a very unique concept: the home screen can be seen as a giant surface on which you are free to put icons, shortcuts or widgets exactly where YOU WANT, and not limited to a 4x4 grid. Pinch to zoom in or out the desktop, use the home key to switch between a full scale view or the normal size, or double tap on empty space as in the web browser to immediately see all your icons. And everything stay functional whatever the zoom level is: widgets are alive, icons can be clicked, and so on.
Lightning Launcher drops rarely used features and focuses on useful ones but comes nevertheless with numerous customization options. Icons and widgets can be moved, scaled and even rotated freely. Each object can be configured independently, you can change the font, the label, the icon and much more!
The package is extremely small, only a few kilobytes. What it means is that the Android system do not need to load several megabytes to run this app. Lightning Launcher starts faster and run in perfect harmony with your other apps.

First I'd like to thank you for this very responsive and light launcher.
What is a bit difficult for me to understand is the separate installation package on the Play store ("Lightning Launcher Setup"): Is it mandatory to install it? Can I remove it after setup of the launcher? When does it unload from memory?
I installed it on same time i installed the "Lightning Launcher Home" but i'm a bit lost with these two separate packages, although I understand the reason of this.
Maybe he wanted to make the launcher cool so he made an 60kb package and then 100kb+ setup.

Question Is there anyway to fit more app icons on the home screen the default

Hello, I have a Galaxy S10+ and I am setting up my new Pixel 7 Pro, but I have a problem, I have set the font size and display size to the smallest and set the screen resolution to the highest but I am still not able to have 5 icons side by side as used to on my Galaxy S10+, can you fix that on the Pixel 7 Pro or is that not a possibility.
Hold an empty spot on the desktop, then go to wallpaper & style, set the grid size to what you want on the bottom of the menu.

Ahh ok, had totally forgot that was the cause, lol such an easy task.
Or alternatively avoid Google's launcher and go for something infinitely more customizable and superior. I'd advise Nova Launcher.
Or group them and with one extra touch you can quadruple the number available.

I seem compelling as the stock launcher with the search bar in the buttom and the at glance in the top sucks ass.
Do you miss anything by installing the nova launcher or do you just get extra stuff and another launcher, like is there any reason to stick with the default launcher other then keeping it stock.

I like to use the default apps, including the launcher, when they allow me to do what I want/need. But when it comes to the Google/Pixel launcher I feel that Google is acting like Apple in NOT ALLOWING me to remove the STUPID search bar! I have never needed or used a search on a cell phone! So I do not want it taking up my screen real estate! So then, it's back to Nova Prime!

Ues I am thinking the same also for the "At a Glance" stupid thing, google, please allow me to remove these things.
~86 apps, 12 folders, 8 widgets - made to look like 15 app icons and 4 obvious folders (and 8 widgets). I might've lost count of the apps and skipped a few. In Nova Launcher Prime, with some "folders" set to behave like apps unless I swipe up or down on their icons. Some icons I have different swipe up and swipe down actions to launch other frequently used apps that I don't really need an icon for.
