Hi everyone,
i am quite aware that the tmobile spectrum and att are different and i will not get any HSPA+ speed, just edge.
however i need to unlock this phone, and have until friday to do so.
Looks like the ace hack kit is the only one?
is there a dummies version of a guide out there?
I have rooted my x2 but of course that is a CDMA phone, there is no unlocking etc.
From what i have seen that ace kit is the way to do this.
The phone reads:
Android Version
2.3.3
Sense
2.1
Baseband:
12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
Kernel
Doesnt probably matter...the rest. i assume its more about bb and android version.
after that i assume simplemobile has apn info, i would hope. any help is appreciated and i will give thanks.
Download the hack kit and read the manual that is included. Read the entire thing several times.

The hack kit leaves the phone in the state it was before you rooted, just with an unlocked bootloader and s-off. There will be nothing else you need to do, unless you want to tweak or flash a custom rom.

thx to both of you. my concern is that i have no idea if the phone shipped with GB or not. since it is 2.3.3 and this is the way that i received it, and the original owner is completely oblivious to it all.

is it possible to call at&t and get an unlock code for the inspire 4g?
If you were planning on rooting to install custom roms you will also unlock your phone. No need to call at&t.

No you have to buy one, or root. The phone is still under warranty so att will not give you the unlock code.
Also please post on the proper section q&a

thanks for the info dtorrez.. i'm thinking about buying the inspire 4g on ebay. then i plan on installing virtuous unity. so, i guess by installing virtuous unity the phone gets rooted... so, no need to get an unlock code from at&t. thanks!
If only it were that easy... Unfortunately you have to root before installing a rom but it's not really that difficult if you read and do your research. Read this and you'll be ready when you get your Inspire.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033353
Not exactly. First you root your phone by using one of the available hack kits, (such as attn1's hack kit) and then you will be able to install whichever custom rom you wish. (As dtorrez said. I was busy doing other things and did not submit reply fast enough so he beat me to it.) As long as you understand the procedure correctly.
How about search and read the forums before asking the same question that 100k others have asked. Not to be a **** but damn do ur research and stickies

Yo,
So I've been reading various forums trying to figure out what the hell I'm trying to do to this phone.
Everything I come across is like trying to read a different language. First off, what am I supposed to copy and paste with a file manager? Then, how can I cloud store my apps Cos I am running out of space due to use of go launcher ex and its many space Hogger accessories...? and finally do I Have to use a computer to root/unlock my phone so I can have newuser permission? how do I do that????
I get easily confused because I'm very new to trying to experience the awesomeness of hacking my phone....

If you do have an EVO 4G DO NOT USE the Guide you were linked to. What is your HBoot? Android version?
I didn't notice that! Sorry.

Ok if that is your HBoot then you have an OG EVO 4G. So DO NOT USE VICODAN'S GUIDE !!! His guide is for the EVO Shift. Check out the Guide HERE. You can also check THIS thread.

You could try running ruu from website but it will lock your bootloader. Or you could just flash one from the inspire dev thread. There are a few different ones with this base.

They also have a link to download it on the AT&T Inspire support forum. It may break the root on your phone though and there are problems with the update on rooted phones in other posts on XDA. I would just look at another ROM that has whatever improvements you want. I updated my stock Inspire and I am not overwhelmed with the upgrade. I will be looking at rooting and a different ROM for mine this weekend. I can not post the AT&T link, not enough posts yet, but as I said, I would not advise you to upgrade the result is marginal at best and has slowed my Inspire and reduced the call volume.

Thanks to ALL!
I have updated by manual method even before I read your post and took a chance. Rightly said by you It has marginal improvement. More over my RAM is almost full. Speed got reduced. Even though these are my first impressions I hope they may subside in future.
Can you guide me how to release my RAM memory. Most of times it is 500 full and 100 free. If problem persists can we roll back to our previous version of HTC sense. If it is possible please let me know.

Please forgive me if this has been asked but I have looked extensively but have not found a definitive answer (maybe I overlooked something or just did not quite comprehend). I know attn1 warned against downgrading DHD/Inspire 4G if it came shipped with GB (for using AAHK). However, when I got my Inspire 4G it originally had Froyo and was updated to GB via RUU from HTC website. My phone is currently rooted and S-Off which I did after the HTC update to GB. Can I run a HTC Froyo RUU safely and do I need to downgrade HBOOT first then flash? If it is possible, where can I get the stock RUU for the Inspire 4G with the H+ update? I have not found anything on the HTC website and what I have found elsewhere was for the DHD. Once again, if this has been answered I apologize in advance and would only ask for a point in the right direction (obviously Google only got me so far).

There is no ruu for that version. Just the original froyo ruu. The first update was just a small OTA. You are safe to downgrade though and don't need to change your hboot. It's only gb shipped phones that will have issues. If you want froyo with the ota you will have to do some heavy searching.

Thanks for the information. I was not sure if I was interpreting what I was reading correctly or not regarding downgrading. I figured finding the OTA update would be a big issue. Perhaps I will forestall downgrading after all since I was counting on data speed to some extent. I was actually planning to test something with froyo and it is the only reason why I was entertaining this whole idea at all.

It should be the first "PD98IMG" link. The official ATT ROMs are labled ATT or Cingular. The rest are for DesireHD. That PD98IMG I mentioned was the first update after the original shipped Inspire.
Hi friends.
If writing is not the topic I'm sorry.
Question to you is:
Does AAHK to unlock sim card?
It is possible to give to the service center for a firmware update, but they do not know how to unlock it, or rather do not have equipment. Will I be able to unlock your Inspire 4G on Ukrainian MTS with this program?
Thank you in advance

Yes. The hack kit do sim unlocks your device, but take into consideration that not all sims work with unlocked devices. Anyway, it Is worth trying.

Again, you device will be sim unlocked, but then depends on your carrier and not the device itself. You can also buy an unlock code if you don't want to run the Hack Kit.

To be honest I've read a lot of forums, has seen a lot of videos on YouTube, and still did not understand how to flash the phone.
Can give step by step instructions?
Now I have installed Root, is S-off. For all I know.
Firmware 2.3.3 Sense 2.1
Maybe there is a person who helps in Skype?
and one more thing - I'd like to firmware 2.3.5 Sense 3.0 (or similar)
unmodified, similar to what is official and that all functions of the phone worked.
Can you give a link to download?
