[Q] Overclock with G3MOD kernel - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I flashed the new G3MOD 2.2.1 OC ( http://code.google.com/p/g3modteam/downloads/detail?name=G3MOD_2.2.1_OC.tar&can=2&q= ) with the app Kernel Manager Pro
And now on the SetCPU I can select differents frequencies between 83Mhz and 667Mhz, but I can't select more than that.
I'm using and original Samsung ROM I5800XXJP4, and G3MOD (in the phone say 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1)
Why I can't select more speed for the CPU?
PD: I can't post on the G3MOD post, because I'm noob

I assume your device is rooted and has "Superuser" installed... Go to the main tab of setCPU and push menu button. There is "device selection". scroll down and push "autodetect speeds recommended" button.
If this doesn't help, the best is to uninstall and install setCPU again.
And search in the thread that rkkoby recommends

Oh... thanks. And sorry to admins :/

I'm pretty sure that is the Infusion kernel. If you read the rest it should say [email protected] # infusion gb
I'd suggest downloading Voltage Control and seeing what options you have in there. You'll know you installed it correctly if you see speeds up to 1600 in there. Plus it's a good tool if you want to Under Voltage a little bit to help on battery life.
Kernel Version number is 2.6.35.7-1997RUXKG3-CL366622 for infusion 1.1. Your good.

Actually that version string is useless for determining which kernel you're running other than "based on Rogers Gingerbread" - since the proprietary Samsung modules force kernel devs to avoid doing anything that modifies that string. (Modify that string = device will not boot.)
The best way to figure out which kernel you're running are:
1) Featureset. If you have frequencies higher than 1200 MHz you're running Infusion as it's the only overclock kernel there is. If you have netarchy-style voltage control but no overclock, you're likely on my Daily Driver. If you have neither, you're probably on Hellraiser or the stock Infused ROM kernel.
2) Build username/host of the kernel to determine who built it. If you look back through my posts you should find one with a list of a few known user/host combos for various kernel devs.
Thanks for the replies guys! I checked in my voltage control i have the 1600mhz in there but i dont really know how to set them... ive looked around i did something but im not sure if thats the best set up. I sitll do not know if i am running on infusion 1.1 i have infused 2.1 for sure but not sure about the kernel. Anyway thanks for the reply guys the help is much appreciated but IF you can help me figure out this voltage thing it'll be great! Also i have downloaded the tranzfusion theme and i dont really like it is there anyway i can delete it?

If you installed 1.1 and voltage control tells you can OC to 1600 then you have 1.1 installed. People use different setups for the Overclocking. use Cfq as scheduler and Ondemand as governor. make sure you turn on 1600 by hitting the red button next to it if you already havent. dont use more than 5-6 mhz speeds at one time. I use 200 400 800 1200 1600.
Just to the OP...the easiest way to me to flash a kernel is simply by downloading SGS Kernel Flasher, selecting the kernel, and flashing it. It's about as painless as you can get.
Thanks for the replies guys much appreciated !

Flash the v10k kdz then root and flash the rom worked for me...
search SetCpu or nfrills cpu and LOWER the OC.
the rom is overclocked at 1300mhz, and i don't think that our 3d can handle that much oc.

How can he do that if his phone restarts constantly lol...
Exactly after install skip the setup and go to setcpu and set lower oc.i think we need to edit the values for max cpu frec at boot, probably init.d or build.prop? I will search and see.

It works on stock kernel when rooted only, thats right, but you can't overclock past 667 Mhz is what Hellhound means I think. You can set it to whatever you like if you dont use the autodetection though, but that is only visual, the actual clock doesn't go past 667 Mhz on stock.
I use:kyrillos rom 9.3 with kernel g3mod 2.2.2 OC 2.4.1oc.and doutch rom 5,2 with same kernel g3mod 2.2.2OC and 2.4.1OC.I tried even with NONoc,no difrence,on every custom ROM i see lag,going true menu,is just not smood inaf
I assume that you have moved your dalvik cache to external sd
move it back to internal and have fun
Please check the ./data2sd.log, if I am on the right side or may assumption is wrong.
-> paste the content of that file here and I know more
lagging is not a symptom of slow CPU, moreover of a slow sd card
cheers

[Q] Remove CPU Speed Limit in Android 2.2

How to Remove the CPU Speed limit of 600Mhz on Android 2.2, When I use Andoird 2.3 on this Device [Commtiva Z51], I am able to Clock the CPU at ~800Mhz, I want to do this on Android 2.2, I have a rooted Device.
Maybe a CPU Tuner
I am sure you can find a free one on Google Play you should take a look.

What you are referring to is known as overclocking (oc)...in order to overclock, you need a custom kernel, since (mostly) the stock kernel doesnt support oc
...
[Fyi, Android 2.3 is better than 2.2 in a lot of ways...]

??? What are you trying to tell??
Typed using a small touchscreen
I already have No-frills CPU control from the play store and it works but not over 600Mhz and yes, it is Overclocking (OC), I am running a custom rom, Android 2.3 Roms are available but i am not using those as they drain the battery really fast (even without overclocking). It seams like it is a limitation with Android 2.2 as I have tried other Roms also and they too have the same problem.
No nothing like that...
Oc is kernel dependent...you can make an oc kernel for froyo also...
And if you oc, you will get faster battery drain, and maybe heat issues...
Typed using a small touchscreen
Overclocking
Currently I am using this Rom (Jellybean <link> slinkme.co.cc/jellybean <link> [Added like this as I cant add links now]) , As far as I know this supports overclocking. And also if this kernel does not support Overclocking, Can you give me a OC kernel for Android 2.2.1 (This Rom).
All devices are different, and so is their kernel/rom/etc....you cannot use stuff for my device on yours...
And jellybean is sypposed to be android 4.x/5...and not 2.2.1
Give me a screenshot of the stuff written in about phone...then maybe I can point you to the right direction...
Typed using a small touchscreen
Jellybean is my Rom name, it is Android 2.2.1, I want a Kernel that Supports OC, Do you have one ? Android Jellybean is 4.1.
My Device : http:~//~slinkme.co.cc/mydevice (Remove ~ for the link)
My Rom : http:~//~slinkme.co.cc/jellybean (Remove ~ for the link)
Not very original calling it jelly bean

i think you can use Set CPU. you can find its on google play or appstore.vn/a
the easiest way...ask your rom developer to make a kernel with OC support. you can't compile a kernel for your device and neither me since I don't even know what your device is.

What kind of PHONE do you have & ROM are you running? THAT determines the kernel.

[Q] Flash new kernel in cyanogenmod 10.1 nightlies on my tf300t

Hello xda forums, I've done a lot of research and I can't find anything conclusive about this issue...
How do I flash a new kernel on my asus tf300t with custom rom cm10.1 nightlies? I want to do this because I can't overclock over 1.3 ghz .
I'm really happy with this rom on performence mode , but in heavier games like gta vice city it still lags a lot, so I'm guessing higher freq > better gamming experience. Please help this poor child :'( . And if I'm reposting or something, u have my sincere apologies.
Thank u so much for the help and I hope this post can help as many as possible.
Are you able to reboot into recovery mode? (Hold power, press reboot and select recovery)
If you can, just download the custom kernel .zip file and go back to recovery. Select 'install zip from sdcard', browse to and select the downloaded kernel.. reboot and enjoy

Hey man, my tablet is rooted and I have cwm recovery installed, so i can boot up the tablet and acess the cwm menu via powerbtn+vol down.
So yes I can flash roms and kernels, but now I ask?? Can I install any kernel having already cm10.1 installed?? If not please give me a list of safe kernels i can install changing cm10.1 kernel on my tf300t.
If this method is to risky maybe I should install other rom with higher costumable overcklock? If yes please recommend roms with overclock ranges higher than 1.3 ghz.
Thank u for ur help

I think there is only one kernel for CM10.1 that you can safely flash and that is Surdu's kernel, what you need to do is get your CM10 zip file and open it with 7zip and then replace the kernel .blob file inside with the one you want to flash, close the zip and reflash your ROM, only wipe cache/dalvik and you should have a new kernel.
Another option is to try Surdu's CM10.1 build with its own kernel, that what I have and it runs great.
hope that helps.

Hey man thank u so much . Just to be sure, so i download the leatest cm10.1.zip extract, change the blob kernel of cm10.1 with surdu's kernel, zip again, flash > wipe cache and dalvik and it is done?
Is it really safe? And after this change can i go higher then 1.3 ghz?

Yep, just like that, all you are doing is replacing the CM10 kernel with a compatible one. and yes Surdu's CM10.1 kernel has GPU overclock and also CPU overclock to 1.7ghz.

Hello man, so i finally figure it out, how to use perf kernel in cm10.1, and OMG it's so freaking amazing I've tunned up my cpu speed between 200 mhz and 1600 mhz in interactive mode, when gamming I use performance mode up 1.7ghz and 706 mhz gpu... Well I hope I'm not pushing to much of little tf300t xD
Thank u so much Ti2.
Ps. I use trickster insted of f.kernel app... Works really good too
You want to clock down good GPU a tad, I think 706 is really pushing it. Stock is ~440, standard Perf setting is 600.

Yeah you are probably right. Gpu with 706 oc it's to much and very unstable. When I play heavy games like Vice city and nova 3, the best settings I've found were 1.7ghz performance mode and gpu with standart perf settings(600mhz). So if u want a stable gamming experience on the tf300t, I would recommend this settings.
