galaxy nexus might see a sprint release!?! - General Topics

http://www.google.com/nexus/#/tech-specs
From the looks of it, cdma is located next to lte in the data section. This obviously can't be a rumor seeing as its on the actual site. Let me know what you guys think. Is this the moment we sprint users have waited for?

Also, under network, it says varies.

Given the way Sprint releases updates for touchwiz phones, a Nexus would be awesome!

I'm kinda sad, I wanted the HSPA+ version here

You could order it from eBay and put it on tMobile
I want to like this phone. But it's features aren't that great. Since this is a developers phone I hope they put the 1280 x 720 screen inside of the SGS3. Just a thought.....

I don't get the rollout for this version of the Nexus. Google has released 2 Nexus phones now that were capable of working on either T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. Now all of a sudden it's a Verizon exclusive in the states?
So much for keeping your loyal customer base happy. Verizon is great, but I don't see myself switching from AT&T to get this phone anytime soon. It's almost like it isn't a Nexus at all anymore. Just a Verizon version of the Galaxy S 2.
Guess I'm off to see how I can import a version....

I've read many rumors lately about a Sprint release in early 2012, I think we may see it

I was hoping sooner than 2012. Im only 16 so im getting my new phone for christmas. As of now, i believe, i will be stuck with a sgs2. Its not a bad phone, but i was just hoping sprint would release one more big item before the holidays. Their last big release was the sgs2 in september

Exactly the same here. Verizon isn't a terrible carrier, but with all these benefits, there's no way in hell I'm ever switching from T-Mobile anytime soon. I guess Google won't get my money if they're not releasing on T-MoUSA before the holidays.

That's expensive as f*ck.

Ummm just a reminder Verizon is a CDMA carrier as well...

Just unlocked my Galaxy Nexus after 3 days of research. It can be done.

Samsung makes me sad :(

Samsung were amazing with the Galaxy S line, no complaints there. The Infuse came along and it was pretty much the Galaxy's weirdly put together and slightly upgraded step brother. And as we all know, a hold over for the S2. Then the S2 comes out and everyone's excited. Hell yeah, party! Greatest phone ever made, yeah cool, whatever.
And we all love our phones. And then the Skyrocket. The freakin Skyrocket... This phone comes out a month after the S2. I mean, I love Samsung, but this phone release trend is outrageous. Yes people like HTC release a ton per year, but over many carriers. Samsung has three phones for the same carrier in six months. This just irks me. Please discuss.

Android eco-system enables this. This is how they are outpacing apple.
S2 came out several months ago didn't it? I believe it was the US carriers creating the giant delay while everyone else in the world enjoyed it for a few months.

Yep - I think you're right. I heard at LEAST 2 more Samsungs by the EOY for Android/ATT alone. Plus a few more for TMobile, Sprint and Ver.
Guys its not like iPhones where the new phone takes an absolute dump on your phone. Samsung puts their best foot forward on most of their phones. Keyword MOST. the new phones are just incorperating the new technology such as LTE for att. Just enjoy the phone you have knowing that its not out of date yet since the new iphone only has 1/2 a gig of ram

I meant to say the new iphone takes a dunp on your old iphone. I accidently left it open. I didn't mean your samsung phone. If we look at the galaxy s vs the 4 the sgs had a power vr sgx 540 where as the 4 only had a 535. Not trying to turn this into a iphone vs android. Just using the new iphone old iphone model.

The moment you walk out with your phone its already obsolete because there is a new one coming. I actually perfer this "abundance" of phone. it gives us options.
I just don't like the fact that reps have no idea of up coming phones but the net does. I specifically asked about gs2 when I bought my infuse and att claimed to have no idea, 1.5 months later and its released.

I dont think the stores actually have an idea of what they are getting, keep in mind there are different departments which handle different stuff.
im guessing the retail part, just sells the device...
or they are complete asses and just dont say anything....
They just don't say anything. I have a friend who works for verizon and they learn about what the phone is as far as features before the phones come out

sorry to say this, but this thread is stupid.
that is like getting mad at mercedes, "i just bought this E class for 50,000$, now they come out with the new CLS!". haha
when you made your Android purchase, you have to accept that one fact that the turnover of devices are very very high... If you don't like this then you'd be better off with the iPhone.
Otherwise, think about how your phone, even though it might be like 4-5 devices behind the newest device, is still so much better than the newest iPhone in the market.
People really don't understand the point of this thread.... I just look at other companies that don't release 4 phones for one carrier in a 6 month span. I love Samsung just not this crap.

While I do agree with you to an extent, I think you miss an important factor that is causing this.
The Galaxy S line was 3G HSPA. Then AT&T launched their HSPA+ network, and the Infuse is "4G" with HSPA+ and halfway between the SGS and the SGS 2 lines. So the Infuse was thrown out there so Samsung had a high end HSPA+ phone. Then the SGS 2 came out as the full upgrade from the SGS line. It also had HSPA+ as that's still the dominant "4G" network for AT&T right now. Shortly after they release the SGS2 LTE with 4G LTE so they again have a high end phone on the best network AT&T has to offer.
So while it seems like they have released 4 phones in a year and a half, 3 of them upgraded their network support. They probably could have waited on the SGS 2 and just released an SGS2 LTE, but I suspect the SGS2 will drop in price faster than the LTE version will as the LTE network grows, giving them maybe a $100 and a $200 model, or even $150/200.
I don't think you'll see them release as many now that we don't have any network upgrades for another couple of years when they upgrade to LTE Advanced (and I suspect that will roll into LTE phones sooner rather than later).
But yeah, I know what you mean. I would have been pretty annoyed if I had bought an SGS2 and then the SGS2 LTE came out, but the LTE came out soon enough after the SGS2 that you could have returned the SGS2 for the SGS2 LTE if you wanted. They were JUST over 30 days apart, but the Skyrocket was announced before 30 days was up, so you could have returned immediately and used a temporary phone for a couple of days.
This thread isn't stupid...it makes a point
Their frequency of phone releases addresses AT&T's network upgrade needs, not Samsung.
AT&T contracts the OEM's to make devices for them. AT&T is paying boatloads for each device run. Thus they have an incentive to move 'old' devices out as soon as possible to make room for the latest tier. It's about recouping cost with device/accessory sales and new contracts.
Keep in mind, that unless you have confirmed LTE service in your area, paying full price for an LTE phone wouldn't make much sense. On contract? Sure and just wait for your LTE coverage to arrive.
AT&T got caught due to VZW's strong LTE push and the 'postponed' T-Mo M&A. So they have to make an LTE push in profitable markets and have a device that can answer VZW's offerings.
The bottom line in my opinion is for you the consumer to do your own homework and not rely on the salespeople to 'educate' you. They won't. They aren't trained to.
You have this forum, Google and more web rags on mobile tech than you could possibly read. A wealth of info for free where you can research and plan your purchase.
My Infuse and wife's Cappy are expected to remain in service for another 3 yrs. At that point I'll sell them to help offset the costs of their upgrades. If there's a need to upgrade soon than that, it'll be because the new device will fulfill a need these devices couldn't possibly fill.
Both of these phones are powerful and feature rich so I feel confident in their longevity.
Although, that flexible AMOLED screen tech is sexy!!! I'd love to see device designs!

The reason you piss people off so much is due mainly in part to how of an ass you are. Personally I don't care for iphones. Another thing is why is everyone who has sn iphone is a sheep? Some people genuinally prefer them. I think you talk way too much without thinking, and you really need to stay out of people's topics if your main objective is to cut them down, try to make every point they make seem invalid, and in a general sense just get on people's nerves.

New phone?

Verizon sent me an update notification yesterday. I love my tbolt but am curious about things new. I'm not a fan of MOTO Blur so I'm not really into the Droid series unless someone convinces otherwise. It seems that's the only thing Verizon is promoting at the moment. Does HTC have a new monster release soon or do I need to settle? What is everyones opinion?
I didn't like the original Blur. Ninja, or whatever the launcher was called. New Blur is very sleak and pretty snappy, especially on a RAZR. My only issue with Motorola is the locked bootloader. Makes the developer scene kinda meh. I mean, HTC MIGHT be coming out with something big within the next couple months, but the Rezound is still holding pretty strong. Who knows, a new EVO is about to drop on Sprint, so maybe Verizon will get a taste of something.
According to phone arena HTC is supposed to be dropping a tb replacement in April. Obviously it's a rumor, but it wouldn't surprise me since they have talked about it since a month before the rezound dropped. I'm waiting till April to make my decision between the nexus and the new HTC phone that may or may not be coming. I have the TB and the bionic, and I HATE the bionic. As soon as the Ril is released and made compatible with twisted rom I may go back to the TB. Don't get anything moto, just my 0.02 oh, and I have more problems with lag and data on the bionic than I had with the TB.
They talked about it a month before the Rezound drop because it WAS the Rezound lol
Yeah, that's the reason they just wrote another article on it the other day talking about an April release date. I think it was code named the fireball, model number 6410. So yes, clearly it was the rezound. 6425.
I'm hanging on to my TBolt until something amazing comes out. When I leave my TBolt it's going to be for something that absolutely blows it away and something that shows great developer support.
I'm going back to tmobile as soon as my contract is up since the little lady and I can get on a family plan and cut down on the bills. I was offered a charge but no thanks!

Yep. Seems if you like Android, a GSM carrier (T-mo) is the way to go. I'm sticking with Big Red since they have LTE and I have unlimited data. As soon as they find a way to kill that, I'm out.

I just got the RAZR MAXX last week, coming from the bolt, and am pretty happy with it. The new blur actually isn't bad at all. Definitely not as much on the dev side for it as the bolt, but we do have root and some custom ROMs, themeing and over clocking options. Also, we are rumored to be getting ICS this week! And even if that doesn't drop, there's a leaked version that you can load. Signal and battery life are excellent as well! Would I have paid $200+ for this phone with a 2 year contract? Probably not due to the locked bootloader! But for free...most certainly worth it!

The HTC One X just came out, or within the next week or so, on T-Mobile and I believe AT&T as well. IF a version comes out for Verizon, it will be HTC's flagship device of the year.
If I wasn't getting such a good deal with Verizon ($59.99 for unlimited data, text, and 450 mins), then I would probably switch to AT&T since they are pretty strong up here. US Cellular is my preferred choice of a carrier but they have horrible phones.

Considering we get Flagship phones so late thanks to Verizon's over testing, we would get lucky if we get the One X before X-Mas.
The One X would probably be the first real tempting upgrade from the Thunderbolt. I doubt we'll see such a phone at Verizon though. We would have already heard the rumors.
The Incredible 4G will most likely be our closest counterpart of the One series.

Called AT&T to complain about locked bootloader, response was "it may be temporary"
I dialed 611 to contact AT&T about my displeasure at the locked bootloader (you should too!) and after speaking with an "android specialist" the rep told me that it was an AT&T corporate decision but he also said it was temporary. After talking to the manager he told me they would pass on the complaint the engineers. I'm not sure I believe the claim that it will be temporary, but perhaps we can get more people to call in and get complaints filed and possibly learn more. I'm still unsure about whether or not to return this phone, I am a big cyanogenmod fan and I would have no reason to stay on the service especially if future samsung devices are locked.
Interesting. I hope this "android specialist" wasn't just talking out of his ass.

If you want CM, don't buy the S4. Don't buy a phone because of what it might become. Buy a phone because of what it is. I will not buy this phone if the bootloader remains locked.

I think T-Mobile uses a micro-sim card. So you will need to get a micro-sim card from AT&T (doable from what I have heard) and have your info transferred to it by AT&T or you could use a sim cutter (I have no experience with them). Of course, that is if the T-Mobile variant is verified to use a micro-sim.
Also, it needs to be verified that the T-Mobile radio (baseband / modem) that is included in the T-Mobile phone works well on AT&T's network. Just because the phone's hardware might have the same frequencies as the AT&T network (LTE and other) doesn't mean that the stock radio (software) has been optimized to use them all.
I just posted on the AT&T facebook Totally agree that we should all speak out about this. I have high hopes for Key Lime Pie and maybe they will push an unlock then and this is just an attempt to keep selling the GS3. This phone has no advertising and an encrypted bootloader, I feel like this is just being used as a ploy to sell more Galaxy S3s while they wait for the supposedly new iPhone coming sometime soon I think. Whenever that arrives they will probably pull some crazy ass **** with the Galaxy S4, possibly unlock it and maybe push out a new version of Android. That's obviously in a perfect world though :silly:
Take all that with a grain of salt as I'm not a professional and just a Networking Administrator student XD

You're right, I'm sure. I'm just in denial.
I returned a case today at at&t for my htc one and the guys there said they had alot of s4 returns and or exchanges for the note 2 or htc one over the weekend. Im sure a small few were becuase of the bootloader. Maybe the rest were becuase of the lag and bloat?
Just posted my thoughts on AT&T's FB page. Not due for an upgrade for another couple of months but I was seriously considering getting the S4.
If even a small amount of those returns included a "restocking fee", AT&T is still making money. The only way they will care is if people drop them all together as a carrier and spend their money with another carrier.
Of course, if it happens enough, Samsung may take notice of all the AT&T returns.

EVO 3D potential buyers & owners had petition in action on day one of release , a couple weeks later with Facebook blasting Sprint & HTC made things right.
Sprint no longer requesting bootlodaer lock down and hTC will no longer do so for them
Have to admit, IF a couple thousand (every user in the XDA S4 forums including those not on ATT) users would complain about this matter they would notice. As for doing anything? The only way this madness will stop is if the companies like samsung, htc, moto put their foot down and say we are not locking down our bootloaders take the phones as is especially samsung imagine if at&t and verizon couldnt carry the S4 or the S5 all the money they would lose think they would be singing a different tune with locking down everything.

I agree. If Samsung would adopt more of Apple's strict procedures, they'd make a lot more.
I'd love to get off AT&T and go to T-Mobile, but I just can't live with the spotty H+/EDGE coverage. Hopefully they'll get some lower spectrum soon, because their 1700AWS frequencies can't penetrate a paper bag.

Found this over at Android Central:

Hoping we VZW customers don't have to wait until December for this gem although with it being VZW, I wouldn't be surprised. VZW is great for area coverage with 4G and cell service for me, but release dates and Android OS updates fall WAY off the mark for a tech nerd like me.
True, Verizon is the last to receive their handsets. Sad really. Maybe they invested to much into the droid line???

After more than an hour on the phone last Friday, I found out Verizon has a showcase date listed for the 28th, but no release date set. The rep I spoke with said phones typically go on sale 1 or 2 weeks after that, so we are looking at the middle of December at best.
Hello All,
I am a newbie to the forum, and like you all I have been anxiously waiting for the Edge to be released, I had the nerve to put all my phone techies/fanatics onto the Edge craze & How about all of them have them(b/c of the various different carriers they are with) now except me:crying:
I was at the mall today & stopped in the Verizon store just to see if I could find out if any of the sales reps knew anything, This one guy told me that "Verizon will not be getting the Edge, If they didn't get it on the release date then they will not be selling it", So I proceed to ask him, ..."Then why would Verizon have a sign-up page for more info on the Edge?".....He had no answer....Which leads me to believe that he really doesn't know the REAL answer.
I thought about calling & maybe telling them I was considering going to another carrier because I really want the Edge, But who knows what their response would be
does anyone know anything? Very weird how there is no information about this...
I'm waiting as well. Rumor from two different locations Best Buy store's SAMSUNG reps say "end of December" & "before the year is up" Hope it is true, but take that with a grain of salt............... cause I'm doubtful, but who knows?...........
now you have another reason to switch carrier. haha

Unfortunately some of us don't have much of a choice. Verizon is hands down the only carrier with consistent service around here, especially with 4G. Everything else is spotty around the larger cities, but not worth the reduced charged for reduced service.
I went to my Vzw store on Sunday, they still don't have any word on a date. I ship my Note 3 out tomorrow, and am going to be using a broken SIII until it is released. FML. :silly:

Well December has come and gone! Is it possible Verizon won't release it even though they went through the FCC?

It passed FCC in early. november. I wouldn't be surprised.... Good ol' Verizon. Imagine Samsung is probably stuck with a warehouse full of Verizon Edges waiting to be recycled.....
I was really looking forward to this phone...
Waiting for visual confirmation but a semi-reliable source has said 1/8 for us VZW people still waiting.

I can now say with certainty that it will be launching at Verizon on the 8th. I'm not sure if they do a Verizon Dev Edition. I've been an HTC guy up till now some I'm not familiar with what they've done in the past.
