Weird vertical lines after watching video on Netflix - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I bought my SR 2 nights ago and last night, decided to test out Netflix on the phone and as soon as the movie started, I noticed that the quality of it was not that clear (or as clear as I would expect it). I then noticed and my dark wallpaper had these strange vertical lines on it and would not move. It is now there all the time (noticeable with dark colours) and even turning the phone off for some time, they are still there - is this a burn in issue? Has anyone else experienced this?

Video: Samsung seems to have introduced black clipping/crush with software

It seems to me that Samsung has screwed up the screen calibration inadvertently in their cluster-F of an OS. The S4 shows black clipping in images, gamma test charts, and videos, but I found some remnants of a more capable screen here!
http://youtu.be/V7T4rEQt27o
Seriously Samsung, don't give a crap if it gives somewhat better battery life, FIX THE DAMN THING! What's the point of releasing an FHD phone and having that black clipping and blue tint? At least leave an option to switch it on and off.
Will be fixed with custom kernels as with S3/Note 2, hopefully.
Noticed this last night while multitasking.
Kind of annoying, I do think its software related because my SystemUI crashed at one point, among other things, and it stopped happening.

Whats stopped happening after the UI crash? Did the clipping go away?
that would be a step in the right direction

Correct. Whereas before going from one screen to the other would cause a momentary jump in brightness, then a quick lowering of brightness by a noticeable but nearly insignificant degree - post a ton of errors/crashes, it stopped happening.
At one point the phone jumped a few notches in brightness (without my touching anything). And from then on out, all my screen swaps from light/dark, dark/light, different apps stopped having that ever-so-slight adjustment.
So it *seems* like it is an adjustment made on-the-fly of sorts, and I would really love to just be able to disable it...
This was a major problem in the OG Note and was never fixed.
Samsung needs to fix their screen because it's terrible compared to other phones. I can barely see the screen in daylight when I'm outside.
As an experienced Android and iPhone user, this phone is the biggest disappointment of my life. The lag is horrible and there are so many annoyances like the screen brightness changing all of a sudden (with auto brightness off). We need CM10

I can confirm that this happens in Netflix as well. If you pause on a scene with clipping, and hold down the menu button, the clipping goes away or atleast improves substantially, right before the Netflix app fades away.
There definitely seems to be something crippling the gamma across the OS
Is it me or am I the only one happy with the screen? It's not that bad in daylight as long as you bump up the brightness and you can adjust the color mode on the screen so it mimics the HTC One color saturation.
Also I don't notice any clipping, fault screen perhaps?
I leave auto brightness on all day I live in sunny Miami Florida and I see my phone perfectly outside. I never have any jump of brightness but in the settings menu I do get a little bit of this blue smearing and whites go a little darker but its minor not enough to make you annoyed. I don't know but I'm having no problems with my phone and I love it

Go to the Play Store and watch the Trailer for Django Unchained.....no clipping? Clipping is present on every AMOLED, just to different degrees
As far as is my understanding, either the screen smears on grey on black, or you have reddish blacks. Some might not notice it or care really

The smearing can be reduced by using the appear app Scream Adjuster and setting red green and blue to + 5 to +10 depending on how badly it smears.
Yea it sucks. But an update can easily address this issue
can someone give me a specific example of where they're having problems?
I just ran the black/white/APL clipping patterns from AVSHD-709. Movie, Photo, and Standard all show no problems. Dynamic however, crushes blacks. Those who are having issues, are you all running Dynamic screen mode?
edit: upon further inspection, it would appear that 17 and 18 get clipped in movie/photo/standard. It's not perfect, and that's all this guy seems to be demonstrating, but I can't imagine a situation where any of you could be legitimately noticing it. It's well below 10% luminance. Just leaning back in your computer chair can clip that many shades of black or more on an LCD monitor. Just as an example; this would not show up on a calibration report, even if gamma was done in 5% steps instead of the typical 10%.
If any of you are really seeing crushed blacks, I would bet that you're using dynamic mode.

Then you need to exchange your phone. I got the 32GB on the 10th and installed the Titanium backup setup from my GS3 and the S4 destroys it in every way. Absolutely no lag, much better battery life, more natural screen saturation, although still oversaturated on the greens. I havent changed the default setting for the screen, which was set on adapt. I am a full time video editor and I just watched the Django trailer off the play store and it was flawless, blacks were crisp, no pixellation or overcrushed blacks and the brightness did not pulsate with changes in luminance from scene to scene. With auto brightness on in a dark room or fully lit room.
I do remember when I got the S3 with ICS stock how terrible the autobrightness was and terribly laggy camera was but after wither the JB update or custom ROMs, all that went away. But none of that exists on this 32GB one I have, so if you applied the latest update and you have the same probs then def get an exchange.
the black clipping is a known issue, and if you're still complaining about lag, swap your phone as everyone who's done that hasn't had any since. as for random brightness changes, noone's mentioned them since the ota
Got rid of the lag by switching launcher to nova and froze a lot of **** from AT&T and Samsung. It hasn't freeze ever since.
The smearing is present but only in the settings menu when I scroll up/down. Not a big deal but I hope it gets fixed.
Besides that the screen is gorgeous and have no complaints. Excellent battery life.

Anyone else Notice this?

So when using the front facing camera im noticing two things:
1. The picture doesnt seem to be focused on my face (beauty face off)
2. The top 2/3 of the phone is getting pretty damn hot to the touch
3. Battery is being drained when the top two occur^ (probably the heat)
Is this normal? I wanna return before my 14 day period if not.
Also, is anyone else getting constant crashes from snapchat and excessive heat?

Should I go to T Mobile for replacement?

I have only had my phone for about a couple weeks if not more, and it already has screen ghosting. I'm kind of afraid that they'll give me a more faulty G5. It happened with my girlfriend over and over, every replacement she got had rebooting problems. What should I do?

I personally wouldn't bother doing a replacement. Download and use blue light filter app from play store, which will stop the ghosting issues from happening. Also you can use screen burn in fixer apps from play store and let it run for a couple hours to fix your current ghosting or just let it with screen of for awhile like overnight or so and use the blue light filter. It's not actually screen burn in so just use the blue light filters. You could also unlock your phone and use a custom ROM and they have built in settings of LiveDisplay where you can manually adjust RGB settings to help.
I lived with the blue screen filter app for the 6 months I've had my G5 and then I cracked the screen, bought a replacement and got a perfectly working one, it honestly looks amazing and it's great not to worry about ghosting anymore. I've found the LiveDisplay settings and even color corrections from AOSP roms had no influence in ghosting, the only reliable way was the blue screen filter app, also there is not an app that works when in recovery or at startup optimization. I'd say go for the replacement.

Just something to be aware of is that it sometimes doesn't happen right away. I had my G5 for 6 months or so before having an issue with it. I've seen many others report the same while others had the issue within days. Even my girlfriends g5 was okay for about 8 months and then had the ghosting issues and I had to use blue light filter app for her since she's on stock. Also LiveDisplay works just fine in aosp ROMs to fix the issue if LiveDisplay is actually working in that rom (some ROMs it's not working on and none had working live display up until a couple months ago. I use it on RR and have no issue with screen ghosting now. But either way op, it is up to you.

Yeah my mistake when I said LiveDisplay has no influence, I meant to say that even though I lowered almost to 80% blue pixels in color calibration and using LiveDisplay at the same time ghosting still existed (less noticeable), at least for me. Using blue light filter app removed it completely.

Ah ok. Yeah I found only lowering blue pixels will not work. Instead I lower all 3 to 90% and it's completely gone. I figured that since the blue light filter apps lower blue pixels that would work same with LiveDisplay but still noticed it, so I tried reducing all 3 and it worked. Also changed from Auto mode to day only settings to get rid of yellowish tint LiveDisplay uses at night time.

Display Issue on two Note 20 Ultra

I bought myself a Note 20 Ultra Snapdragon Version (Hong Kong Version). After around 2 weeks right we’re the proximity sensor is, a dark discoloration started to appear. It’s not super good visible, but still it was there. I tried to overlook it but couldn’t. So i started a repair/exchange process. After a huge war to get a perfect device the shop where i bought the mobile exchanged it with a new one. But again after 1 week this weird dark spot started to appear. Sometimes the splotch is faintly visible, sometimes he is very visible. Now i have payed 1300 Dollars but can’t have a perfect display. Anyone having the same issue?

Ask yourself , what rogue apps are you heavily using that cause this issue. These things normally occur during using VoIP apps on high brightness with screen left ON for long durations. Heat , bright screen and VoIP apps that use the proximity sensor continuously degrade it.
User KURDking posted about similar issues on this forum a month or so back.

First i use the mobile on very low brightness since i got it. Secondly i used nothing like the apps you described. So i can’t see how i caused this. And I’m not the only one. There are other cases with exactly the same issue. It’s a design flaw.
I forgot to mention that i carefully checked the battery temperature and cpu temperature all the time to avoid unnecessary strain on the display and the internals. But still after a short time on both mobiles the same issue.

Lol i own the mobile max 2 weeks. In this two weeks i watched videos. I used whatsapp for texting (maybe 2-3 phone calls). I used a video player to watch download videos, but i used nothing that would have left the display on for a long time with the proximity sensor working. I used the phone more for media, because i still own my iPhone 11 pro max for phone calls and alike. Hence i can’t explain why this is happening. I’m the first one who would say yeah i used the apps you mentioned on high brightness all the time, but that’s not the case.

Btw your sarcastic questions are unnecessary. If you think your clever and everyone else is a moron, nice for you. But the Note 20 Ultra is not my first mobile, and i know what to avoid, and what to do in most cases. But when i get the same issue two times in less than 2 weeks without doing anything maybe causing this, i think it’s ok to ask if anyone else is having the same issue.

No worries bubba. I hope you find an amicable solution soon.
Yeah every n20u has it. Some people just don't have the eyes to see it or choose not to / conditioned to ignore it.
I can see it on demand but I forgot it was even there till this thread. No way around it, it's a design flaw of this generation.
My n10+ isn't visible unless it's being used but what can we do, Nothing.
My US Note 20 Ultra has that as well. I didn't notice it for 3 months, then there it was. It is from the proximity sensor, and it's only visible in dark environments, and on days when I've had long calls. Other times, it's not visible at all and I'm guessing the sensor is under the screen and that the visible flashing causes it to slightly offset the AMOLED pixels. Every Note 20 Ultra I've seen also has image retention issue (not to the point of burn in) but high contrast images fade off the screen for about 5-10 seconds and this is only visible on gray backgrounds. Looking for a "perfect" one may be a waste of time.

Question Phone sluggish / videos do not play after a full charge

I have noticed this happening for the past two to three days now, where after charging my phone to 100% and taking it off the charger, the phone feels sluggish overall in some apps and any videos - be it local on device videos shot from my camera, videos that I have received via WhatsApp, Instagram videos and reels or YouTube videos and shorts do not play at all. I just see the video buffering or loading (the circle keeps going round). Only thing to fix this is a restart. I am not sure what is causing this behaviour but it is very strange and ridiculous. I bought the Pixel thinking pure Android from Google would be the best UX but this sucks tbh.
Anyone else facing a similar issue and any tips on what the reason could be? I have been trying to get in touch with Google support but could not get through to them today, will try again tomorrow.
Edit: it is now happening randomly throughout the day and the camera app is almost frozen during such an episode if I try to use it.
Can you use something like geekbench app to profile the phone when it's at like 20 % after a restart vs 100% no restart?

Here are the screenshots of Geekbench scores. Today's scores are from when the phone was exhibiting this strange behavior of videos not playing.
Unfortunately, this has started happening randomly through the day (and not necessarily after a full charge). I have seen that even the camera just freezes or is non responsive during such an episode. So I guess it is some sort of video driver issue?
I restarted the phone in safe mode and checked but don't see this issue happening in that mode. I've uninstalled apps that I've installed over the past few days. Still not sure what's the issue.
I checked with Google support yesterday and they told me to check in safe mode (done) or else perform a factory reset. Not sure if paying 1000€ for a phone only to factory reset it within a month for a wired issue seems justified. I have the same apps on my 6 year old One plus 3 and face no problems whatsoever apart from the phone being slow.

Hey, I don't mean to be a stickler here or tell you what kind of experience to have.
As a guy who deals with a lot of tech issues, I would recommend a Factory Reset along with google.
Things happen, and not EVERY device is perfect, try not to be done with the phone over resetting. I know it can be a pain but all devices need it from time to time. I work in IT and you would not believe the number of times resetting fixed an issue.
The time for concern is when that does not fix the issue or you are having to do it across multiple patches of a phone.
TLDR; ELECTRONICS BE WEIRD
