I bought myself a Note 20 Ultra Snapdragon Version (Hong Kong Version). After around 2 weeks right we’re the proximity sensor is, a dark discoloration started to appear. It’s not super good visible, but still it was there. I tried to overlook it but couldn’t. So i started a repair/exchange process. After a huge war to get a perfect device the shop where i bought the mobile exchanged it with a new one. But again after 1 week this weird dark spot started to appear. Sometimes the splotch is faintly visible, sometimes he is very visible. Now i have payed 1300 Dollars but can’t have a perfect display. Anyone having the same issue?

Ask yourself , what rogue apps are you heavily using that cause this issue. These things normally occur during using VoIP apps on high brightness with screen left ON for long durations. Heat , bright screen and VoIP apps that use the proximity sensor continuously degrade it.

First i use the mobile on very low brightness since i got it. Secondly i used nothing like the apps you described. So i can’t see how i caused this. And I’m not the only one. There are other cases with exactly the same issue. It’s a design flaw.
I forgot to mention that i carefully checked the battery temperature and cpu temperature all the time to avoid unnecessary strain on the display and the internals. But still after a short time on both mobiles the same issue.

Lol i own the mobile max 2 weeks. In this two weeks i watched videos. I used whatsapp for texting (maybe 2-3 phone calls). I used a video player to watch download videos, but i used nothing that would have left the display on for a long time with the proximity sensor working. I used the phone more for media, because i still own my iPhone 11 pro max for phone calls and alike. Hence i can’t explain why this is happening. I’m the first one who would say yeah i used the apps you mentioned on high brightness all the time, but that’s not the case.

Btw your sarcastic questions are unnecessary. If you think your clever and everyone else is a moron, nice for you. But the Note 20 Ultra is not my first mobile, and i know what to avoid, and what to do in most cases. But when i get the same issue two times in less than 2 weeks without doing anything maybe causing this, i think it’s ok to ask if anyone else is having the same issue.

No worries bubba. I hope you find an amicable solution soon.
Yeah every n20u has it. Some people just don't have the eyes to see it or choose not to / conditioned to ignore it.
I can see it on demand but I forgot it was even there till this thread. No way around it, it's a design flaw of this generation.
My n10+ isn't visible unless it's being used but what can we do, Nothing.
My US Note 20 Ultra has that as well. I didn't notice it for 3 months, then there it was. It is from the proximity sensor, and it's only visible in dark environments, and on days when I've had long calls. Other times, it's not visible at all and I'm guessing the sensor is under the screen and that the visible flashing causes it to slightly offset the AMOLED pixels. Every Note 20 Ultra I've seen also has image retention issue (not to the point of burn in) but high contrast images fade off the screen for about 5-10 seconds and this is only visible on gray backgrounds. Looking for a "perfect" one may be a waste of time.

This is most likely the heart rate monitor. There is currently an issue with Google Fit and the S6 which causes the heart rate monitor to stay on. The only solution st this point is to uninstall Google Fit until Google releases an update that fixes the app.

I'm not sure Google Fit is the only possible source for this problem.
I have the same problem as OP. I got my S6 (non-edge, 32GB) about 24 hours ago and last night noticed the faint yellow glow on the back of the unit. I haven't been impressed by the battery life (admittedly a very limited time with it so far) - but this could explain the less than stellar battery life so far.
I don't have Google Fit installed (in fact if I go to the play store, I get a message saying that it's not compatible with this version"). S-Health is disabled too.
One other thing, when I use the flashlight feature, I notice that the light isn't nearly as bright as on the S3 - not sure if this is relevant, it is the same LED.
I rebooted the system, and even turned it off, the faint light stays on. If the unit wasn't sealed I'd pull out the battery just to confirm this light can go out :-/
I have this issue on mine as well. I first noticed it when I went to charge my phone over night next to my bed. I lay the phone on its face so the LED notification doesn't show. I noticed a slight glow from the flash diode. I thought at first it only happened when I was charging my phone. Today, while at work, I powered down my phone and again noticed the light. For me, its always on. I just got off the phone with T-Mobile and they are going to over night me a replacement. I mention this thread to the T-Mobile support rep and she looked it up while I was on the phone with her. My friend's S6 does not have this issue, so not all of them are having this. I encourage everyone to go into a dark room and check your flash diode.

No disrespect taken, man those are hard to get off (thanks for confirming this, it looked like there were).
However, that might explain the flashlight function being a bit dimmer than on the S3, but it wouldn't explain the constant light source itself.
How can we possibly check this in store where there is substantial amount of light anywhere. I'd definitely check my S6 in store for this.
Mine doesn't have this dim light at all I checked and I closed all the lights to make sure nothing is coming out . I don't know I wish I can help

I think it would be difficult to see unless you ask them to let you into a dark storage room without windows That's how I can verify mine is still doing that during the day, though at night when I wake up with the phone next to me, the glow is comparatively quite substantial.
Plus, you'll have to wait about a week before you can see them in the store.
I have two S6's and can confirm both of mine has this dim lit light only noticeable in the very dark.
The problem with us getting the device early is we don't know if this is hardware or software problem., that might get noticed and fixed with an update. Many say after the actual launch Samsung/Tmobile pushes an update. We can assume they at least will to fix the cell standby draining battery with VOLTE issue. Plus how many will we have to get shipped to us before we get one that doesn't do this, very different than being able to have the associate check it in the back office with lights off.
Can anyone that did get a replacement comment on this.

Mine is doing it too. If it is indeed the case that not all GS6s are doing this, that does make me concerned that somehow my unit is defective. I'm wondering if I should just hold onto it hoping that Samsung will fix it with a software update or if I should try yo exchange it.

I spoke with a tmobile rep. He said online orders get 20 days return exchange from the day of delivery not purchase. He also said there should be an update on a day or two after the official April 10th launch. I told him to document my account that I called about this issue. He said I could get another (two) overnight to me, but there's no way to guarantee if the new ones won't have this.
How come more people are not jumping in here to say theirs is doing it too. If its just us few maybe we do have a problem. But giving it's only noticeable in the dark maybe they haven't seen it on theirs?

I think you are right, unless you have the phone next to you at night you probably won't notice it., still odd, I would have expected others to notice it too. And, even as dim it is, it can't help with battery life. I hope it's a software issue and can be easily patched that way.
Edit: just noticed tonight that my phone does in fact have the LED issue. It's odd because I spent some time yesterday in the dark looking for the problem and it was no where to be found. Been laying in bed messing with my phone while it's charging, decided to flip it over and low and behold, dimly lit flash on :/.

Mine does not seem to be having this issue. I checked it out last night in a completely dark room and couldn't see anything. To see if I could get an idea of what it looked like though, I turned on the torch for about 20 seconds, then turned it off and looked again and it did replicate the faint glow that it seems most people are speaking of, however it faded away in about 30 seconds.

This is making me think some S6s just have this defect where the LED never turns off and some don't. I think it might be best just to return my S6 and repurchase the phone after its official release date. I think these earlier phones might be more prone to defects. My gut feeling is that this is something that won't be fixed via software. I don't think exchanging the phone for a new one will help too much given that so many other S6s also have the issue, you have a good chance that the new phone you get will also be defective.

My guess is it's a hardware issue (perhaps they used a different supplier/component for this part) since all of the phones are presumably running the same software (some with the OTA update that was waiting from T-Mobile - like myself, others perhaps without it). If it can be patched with software is another issue.
Actually, perhaps it would be useful to know if those experiencing the problem have applied the OTA update and those without haven't. My hunch is it won't be a factor, but curious, so people reporting should state their situation.
For my non-edge S6 (black 32 GB) I have the OTA and my flash stays on dimly all the time.
I noticed this last night and I thought it could have just been some sort of burn in from using the flashlight. (64gb regular tmo S6)
It's basically impossible to tell with any sort light around whether or not this is happening, even just with residual light, but mine does seem to be dimly lit in a pitch black room.
Could it have something to do with the selfie feature on the camera? Using the heart rate monitor as a picture button, that is.
I have a 64 GB T mobile regular GS6 with the OTA and I do have the issue.
I pre-ordered my S7 edge (SM-G935FD) and was using it moderately (as a normal user generally does). Everything was quite normal and I didn't tweak any of its settings. I didn't even try out any graphic intensive games on it. But on the 20th day of its usage, I noticed a slight tinge of discoloration on the screen, appearing as if screen burn-in had ocurred. I tried factory reset and the situation worsened after 22nd day. The whole screen went greenish! I don't know if it's related to "Always On" feature but I can presume that as the only reason for the sudden burn-in. Hopefully, I was able to replace it with a new one as it was under 30 days replacement guarantee.

You just got a defective unit, doesn't have anything to do with AOD.
if it was, more people would say this, and the AOD jumps around the screen to prevent the burn-in

I agree with you, but why did it happen all of a sudden on 20th day of its usage?
All I can assume is that pre-order lots are quite low graded!
Definitely not AOD related.
That is definitely not related to AOD. This is a hardware fault. You'll need to return it for warranty repair.

Every company has these issues, you have to realise this phone was manufactured in millions and accidents can happen. I got a black phone first and later switched to gold simply because I preferred the color, both phones were perfectly working. And AOD definitely is not causing this, you can use the feature without worrying.
like everybody else is saying. nothing to do with AOD. this can happen to everyone. don`t even think its a burn-in, seems like parts of the screen is dying(as for the curtin effect) you don`t need to worry, this prob won`t happen again

This is not even screen burn in. If it's screen burn in you can see the aod clock every time. Not these discoloration issue. You just have a faulty unit. That's all.

I also had problems with my first S7e. Had a dead pixel and was not able to fix it. Changed it and now everything is ok.
To generally say preorders had lower quality is wrong i would say. At the moment it seems to be obly a few devices and compared to the order volume its normal to have a few problems with some small amount of devices. So please change the header or let delete it as it might be confusing and fear some people without any reason.
Thanks

Exactly the same thing happened in my friend's Note5 and he got a replacement in india........it happened within 2-3 days of his purchase............criticize samsung india on their official twitter and facebook pages for deploying poor quality standards in their indian manufacturing unit,i had a terrible time finding a good black onyx device in india as two of them had dead(black) pixels in their resp display's and one had a terrible front cam ......................

Like most are saying. That doesn't look like burn in. Just a bad display. Bound to be a few. Sorry for your bad luck.

Because sometimes things fail. Get it repaired under warranty.
Just got my phantom black, 12/256 exynos version delivered today, been using it since this morning and I noticed that on mobile data I have little to no connection even though the 5g icon is stable in the Taskbar, as soon as I connect to wifi everything runs normally. I also had the purple glitch when touching the fingerprint sensor but solved it by disabling the dinamic animated lock screen wallpaper and putting in a normal, static one.
Another issue is that the phone locks itself (goes to lock screen) while browsing the apps (just like double tapping on home screen) but not while using any app.
I hope this is just firmware issue since they are shipping all the phones with the same firmware region based but maybe they still need feedback from some carriers (hence the mobile data issue) and also the display glitches I believe are nothing that a firmware update wouldn't fix.
P. S. : in these first few hours I didn't get at 1 hz refresh rate

With my xiaomi 12 pro if the screen brightness is dim it doesn't go to its lowest refresh rate. Increase the screen brightness and see if it goes to 1 hertz
I am having exactly all the same problems as OP with my 12/512 Exynos version. Now wondering if it is hardware or software issue with the screen glitching when using the fingerprint sensor. The glitch only occurs when using 3088x1440 wqhd+ resolution and dynamic animated lock screen. Position of the screen interference is always the same but can differ in size.

Could this also be a YouTube thing also? Like how Netflix has to certify certain devices in order to use HDR content. Maybe these new 2.0 panels need to have apps updated to work with them.

They forgot to mention one thing. The adaptive refresh rate only works, if your brightness is above 8% or ambient light sensor reads more than 40 lux.
So if you are some like me, with low brightness and low ambient light, get ready for your battery to dissappear as it will be stuck at 120Hz...
on some forums it is mentioned that on Vivis setting for display, the problem does not occur anymore; can you confirm?
anyway, the fact that these artefacts are not displayed when in FHD setting, shows that it is not a display problem, but a software or GPU
I've posted this in a separate thread. I don't think my issue is linked to the screen issues described here. I have a flashing green pixel. Seems like hardware. See the pics.
I have a mountain of problems too, with S22 Ultra black 12/256.
I've got:
Overheating and rebooting in my pocket when doing nothing
Random hanging whilst scrolling down a long list
Intermittent flashing green dots (I think four) across the screen
Horrendous battery life (had it for only 48 hours, but still)
S-Pen sometimes doesn't fire the Air Actions menu when removed (or basically just doesn't notice it's been removed?)
And not really a problem, but after 4 generations it still can't record HDR and 60 frames per second, when in 4k.
This is a huge disappointment, and the fastest tech return ever from me.

Mine gets delivered today. and if I have a green pixel like that on mine it is going back so fast.
Anyone else notice this? I did find a small thread on Samsung.com so not sure if its a hardware issue or if all of them have it. - https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...t-flickering-on-video-recordings/td-p/2209967
Seems to only do it at 60fps options 1080p60 and 4K60.
Except its just not flash light related or LED light related. It'll do it outside as well Highly annoying!
I tested it and don't have this issue.

Its not a 100% all the time issue. Its under certain lighting specific lighting conditons. Usually lower light for me
for low light always use auto fps. it was tested to show its actually better and brighter and clearer

Last year on the 12 Pro Max Auto FPS ruined a video that couldnt be remade. It for some reason switched despite being in the bright outside, on top of that it recorded 24fps and made the clip choppy. Not saying samsung would do this but its not worth the risk keeping that enabled.
But the weird flickering has happened with it being bright outside as well

something doesn't seem to be syncing. i would say the flickering is due to hardware more than software. but yea i only switch on auto fps in low light and its been impressive. i forget where but there's a video of the s22u side by side and auto fps was much more preferable since it could slow down frames meaning it would be brighter with less artificial noise reduction
Looks like a PWM frequency issue depending on the brightness of the (flash LED).
Literally just made a thread about this. The exact same problem. Glad to see i'm not the only one, because I wasn't able to find any other person experiencing this. You can see my example videos here:
Is it normal that my camera flickers on videos when the lighting level changes ? Does it happen on you too ?
It's not happening because of the lamps above, it happens on natural lighting too. It happens when camera focuses to a new area where the lighting level is different. Is this a defect, or is it the same for everyone ? Here are 2 example videos...

Hope it's not a hardware problem and they fix it with an update
I'm so happy to say that May update I just received (S908EXXU2AVDA) fixed this problem. Can you check if it's fixed for you too ? @hyelton I tried every specific condition that it flickered before and it doesn't flicker anymore, made me happy that it wasn't a hardware problem and they were aware of the issue.

Glad it was fixed in an update!

Alright, tell me when you receive the update and check please, you're the only one I can ask this since nobody else was realizing about this problem lol. Hope it gets fixed for you too!

I'll post here if it ever gets fixed. Yeah I'm sure it's just people don't notice it.
Example
I can hand my phone to my mom and set it to 60hz. And low power mode. She will think it's crazy fast and no lag. When it most certainly is not LOL
She does now find her old S10 slow after using a S21 FE the past few weeks.
Hey guys i have an problem on my s22 ultra from today morning. I don't hard use or haven't dropped my phone till now from the day i bought. So the pixels on display are malfunctioning itself like only two pixel. I have attached the picture of it. Please help me with it guys thank you in advance.
Use Screen Test to see what you got.
Send it in for warranty repair. It will likely get worse. A lot of failures and issues with the Samsung variable refresh rate displays. Completely unacceptable for flagship devices.
This is an older version, may or may not work with Android 12.

Sorry to hear that. It likely is the display.
At least it happened under warranty. Too many of these premium displays are failing out of warranty. It started with the N20U... and it seems to be an ongoing issue.

High temperatures don't help anything but the issues seemed tied to the design, materials and/or manufacturing process. It spans multiple generations and models. Samsung isn't advertising this issue... other manufacturers are also seeing higher failure rates with the variable refresh rate displays as well. OP's track record appears to be good in this regard and for color accuracy/calibration which is almost impossible to do with variable rate displays. A dirty little secret.
Another problem is the increased brightness levels. All organic leds have a rather short finite lifespan. Use manual brightness control and keep it 50% or less whenever possible. I limit use outside at near 100% to seconds, not minutes because of this. I avoid use in direct sunlight.
Use dark mode and limit the white and blues especially. Low energy red pixels generally out lived the blue pixels. This heavily used N10+ display has >8k hours on it and is still perfect.
Its prob a screen connection issue (most likely NOT though), try fixing it yourself with the help of ifixit (or if you dont want your device demolished), send it to a repair centre & tell them to replace your screen
