I'm asking this question because my wife's GS4G is constantly messing up and all TMO wants to do is send us another one and charge 15 bucks. If I were to exchange again this would be the forth exchange.
My wife is no tech savvy so I'm looking for the most stable rom with the least amount of issues so when I finally flash it over she can be happy. I know there might be several opinions I'm just looking for an idea....
Thank you
For Froyo 2.2.1, I'd say ICBINB by team acid, for Gingerbread, I'd say Valhalla by Whitehawkx or Audiophile FTW by Raver. But it's your choice afterall.
I would recommend flashing a gingerbread rom. Froyo roms are not even close. I'd say flash Valhalla or audiophile. But if you are going flash Valhalla make sure you use a different launcher since right now some people are having issues with touchwiz.

I would deffinayely flash the valhalla 1.1 so effin smooth simple great battery life its pretty much perfect

Valhalla or Audiophile FTW. Both ROMs are stable and have great battery life.

I like ICBINB
the froyo version of ICBINB was the most stable and issue-free, but i personally prefer vahalla 1.1 + ADW EX.
hmmm....
i think my sig says it all.
Honestly, all of them are good. It's just a matter of which ROMs you want to flash.
Froyo:
1) ICBINB = easiest way to get the smoothest Froyo
2) Audiophile = the name tells enough, if you're a music enthusiast
3) Bionix Frost or Black Ice = most basic ROMs; must flash all tweaks yourself
GB:
1) ICBINB = same as above, but better
2) Audiophile = same as above, but better
3) Valhalla = newest stable ROM for us (as of 9/21); a lot of versatility with lockscreens and EDT Tweaks
Obviously, the GB ROMs are better, but they are also a bit more complicated to deal with. Froyo ROMs are easier to flash. Be sure to look at the Bible and everything. You wouldn't want a brick and end up having your wife smack you!

That would be the best option if it was actually his phone!
I like the Deodexed KI1 rom from Whitehawkx and the e6x3 theme by Somairotevoli.
Once Whitehawkx finishes Valhalla KI1 I will be using that one.
I am actually in the same exact boat with my girlfriends SGS4G it runs horribly and has massive problems with internet connection and locking up I'm in the middle of going rounds with tmo they've sent me 2 refurbs already first one had hardware issues(brightness switched every second like it flipped through brightness levels) second one the bottum corner of the screen was cracked and now they're sending me a third one if this ones a POS, I'm gonna feel sorry for who evers on the customer service side of the phone next, sorry for going off topic

That sucks. For the first one, are you sure automatic brightness wasn't on? If lighting around you changes, the brightness changes (quite easily too).
Maybe you could fix up the next refurb with one of the suggested ROMs.
Very new to installing roms. Uf I have the stock froyo on my phone, will I have to OTA download gingerbread before I can flash a GB rom? Or can I just flash a GB rom?

Is there an OTA GB? I don't think so. You'll have to ODIN a GB ROM. I'm using Valhalla 1.2 with drhonk's KI1 Kernel with full ext4. Very sweet.

G2xTreme
I am running G2Xtreme 1.1.1v2 Faux's 0.1.3-ext4 kernel. Everything works great including the HDMI which was very important to me. I uninstalled cm7 146, WeaponG2x, eagleblood1.07, and trigger0822. Everyone of these great rom's had hdmi problems. But they are all great.
My Antutu benchmark score is 5561 at 1.2 mhz which is just below the Galaxy S 2. When I was running trigger with Faux's latest kernel ( can't remember what it was) my score was 5630 at 1.1mhz which scored me above the Galaxy. I have had this phone for about 6 weeks and didn't even know ROM's existed until i stumbled upon the android reddit page after two weeks of ownership. Now it seems I can flash a rom in my sleep! There is that much info in these forums! How to's and even youtube videos. Amazing, really, that android phones bring so many people together!
I haven't commented enough to post ( noob that I am ) in the dev forum so I would like to say THANK YOU to all the dev's and especially *renocivik* for his very stable, fast, stable, rom.

For those who are using weapon with no problems, has anyone had problems streaming an avi file through the hdmi ? It was very unstable for me. So now I'm curious to see if maybe it was just my plasma tv.

I switched from CM7 (faux sv kermel) to Weapon G2X (stock kernel) a couple of days ago. Had too many problems with CM7 connectivity - lost APN, no wifi calling, slow-no GPS lock etc. Most could be fixed with a hard reboot but I found myself rebooting multiple times a day. Gave up after I missed a couple of critical calls.
Weapon G2X seems to be stable. I liked the default layout/launcher etc built into CM7 a little better but with a little work and the Go Launcher I think I now prefer this ROM.
What are the known weaknesses of Weapon G2X btw? I went through the dedicated thread but couldn't really identify any weaknesses. Excuse me if this is a stupid question - I am a noob and still learning about this phone and Android in general having come from Blackberry just a month or so ago!
Cm7 nightly 160. Bluetooth finally works and it works flawlessly. Stock kernel for now.

Weapon no Kernel.
but I am thinking to switch back to EB CM7 + Faux, everything run faster with CM7 roms
CM7 nightly 161, stock kernel. Working good so far.
Been with CM7 ever since LG "bricked" my phone with their GB update and not updating their camera app to GB.
Had faux's 0.4.2 up to nightly 153, but had my APN disappearing and wifi dropping connection (appeared connected, but no data was getting through), so I switched back to stock. I have this problem in 158/160/161 + faux kernel.
I wonder if this is caused by CM7 going to 2.3.7 recently...
Currently running Cm7 Nightlies with Faux 4.2SV CM kernel. It's been pretty stable expect for the data & wifi dropping like mentioned before. But a simple reboot fixes it...and i don't mind rebooting either cos reboot only takes less than 20 secs.
Came from MiUi 1.9.30, which i must say is the fastest ROM i've ever had (atleast for me). Just got really tired of the iPhone look. Then switched to Weapon 2.6...but didn't really like the stock look and reboots took literally like more than 60secs. So i thot i'd try going back to CM7.
After trying miui, cm7, eagle, and trigger, (with various kernels) I settled on weapon. I used both versions of faux's kernel, but I got sick of the five minute boot time, so now I'm on the stock kernel.
I absolutely LOVE weapon. It's lacking some of the customization options of other roms, but the stability more than makes up for it.

First time opting for a non-Samsung ROM as a daily driver. Even with its hiccups, it's smooth and stable, and I get my hardware accelerated 1080p FLAC+subtitles MKV with DicePlayer. I'm missing the TouchWiz contacts app though.

Thanks again for our infuse members placing their votes, i really wanted to see how our members have been using these roms , especially with the incredible dumps which have been coming lately lmao
Tried a good few of the roms available, like them all but seem to keep falling back to CM7. The phone just seems to run the best with it. And the UCKJ1 modem is the best I've found for the area I live in!

mhl doesnt work in aosp on any samsung yet. if it makes it to the i9100 then entropy will try his best to port it to the infuse im sure. i think the skyrocket and i9100 also have bt issues on the ics roms.
if you want a phone with everything working ans are partial to samsung get a galaxy s. either a vibrant or a i9000 or captivate. the bt chip is different in the sgs and they are fully functional. if you want hdmi you need to switch to a different manufacturer. htc maybe. but i dont know for sure.
I don't know about you guy's, but i have been using Infused v2.2.3 with the blue Infusion V2 them as my daily driver for close to a year now. It has been rock solid right from the get go with everything working great, including bluetooth.
More recently i have updated the kernel to Infusion-Z which also adds HDMI-MHL video output capability. So with literally everything working perfectly and rock stable performance, there really is no need for me to keep flashing other ROMS.

I find that most ROM's try to distinguish themselves with themes and new lockscreens or task bars etc. I have found that the most important thing to me personally was a rooted rock solid base ROM where all functionality works all the time. The rest can be added individually such as ICS themes, wallpaper, custom lock screens, over clock, underclock etc to suit performance and battery life tastes.
Every month or so i get my feet wet with another ROM flash just for fun. However i always keep coming back. At the end of the day, all i really want is everything working reliably as it was intended when i need it.

In my opinion the best rom I have used and still use is Aeon v1.4L or whatevver the newest one. Its still gingerbread but stable and gives me fast service speeds.
On gingerbread: miuiscotland_I997-2.4.17
On ICS: RemICS-UX
On JB: RemICS-JB or CM10
In my opinion:
For GB: ZEUS 6.0 or Aeon 1.4SL
For ICS: Uni-yuma-Porn B.40
And for JB: ParanoidAndroid
Hope this helps

GB. Stock rooted. Sorry to admit it but I had battery or lag issues with most of the others I tried.
ICS. Cm9- although its the only one I stuck with for more than a few days.
Job. Tried cm10 and paranoid android. I liked cm10 better. All the extras inPA weren't much use to me. GPS doesn't work well in any jb Roms though so I'm back on cm.
catyrom works pretty good. its GB with an ICS look.
paranoid android was good for me in both ICS and JB, however i have been running the Cypher ROM for the last 4-5 weeks and that is the longest i have been on one ROM in quite a while.
Zues has always been strong for GB too.
CM10 rocks
I have never tried any other than stock ROM until I saw JB released. I realized that I should have this on my Infuse.
I tried cypherROM, CM10 and ParanoidAndroid. To me I felt that PA and CM10 are almost same, but felt CM10 is faster(though they use same source).
cypherROM is different UI feel and I personally like it better than CM10 in terms of it's UI colors.
I've found that I simply hate ICS and JB. As far as I'm concerned, the "best" ROMs are either a rooted and slightly customized stock UCLB3, or CM7.2.

Scott's CM10. Use FasterGPS, and change your GPS settings according to instructions in the thread. The initial lock will take a while, but after you get the first lock, it's within a matter of seconds that I can lock onto 7 satellites within SECONDS inside work, (which is an all metal building that is an auto dealer). I don't know about Bluetooth, since I don't use that function, but I have no issues with the camera at all, or internet speeds. I am extremely happy with CM10, and the ability to overclock easily.
