[Q] No Data Connection! - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I have a SGS4G. Until yesterday I only had a prepaid voice plan, and I used wifi for data. Yesterday I signed up for a prepaid voice+data. I got a new sim which has been activated, voice+text works, and the account shows data is enabled.
However, I get no data (with the wifi off). The guy in the T-mobile store saw nothing wrong with the settings. Use packet data is checked under mobile network settings. The settings/phone/status shows mobil network state as disconnected, and there is no 3g/4g icon at the top of the display (just 4 bars).
Tech support sent resets a couple of times, and its been power cycled half a dozen time by now.
The guy in the store put my sim in his phone and it got data.
Tech support opened a ticket and said call them back in 3 days if it doesn't clear. I'm not optimistic.
I'm running straight Froyo KD1 via Kies, and the only hacks are root and cwm recovery.
Any ideas on how to get the cell data working?

Check if APN are set..
Settings > wireless and networking > mobile networks > access point names
if you're Tmobile, it should have one like this:
Tmobile internet
epc.tmobile.com
If there's no apn on the list, then you'll never get 3g 4g

It says :
WAP Setings (with a green bullet)
epc.tmobile.com

Create a new one and use this info:
Name: Tmobile Internet
Apn: epc.tmobile.com
Apn type: Internet + MMS
The rest should be left as it is.

I tried it, but don't see a difference. Still no data (after a reboot). The only difference I see between the new and old one is that MMSC was set in the old one.

Try these values

Thanks for the suggestions, but the only variations are whether the MMSC is set, or the Authentication type is set. I've tried those variations with no luck.
Something else is wrong.

[Q] Can't receive MMS when data is off

I read through all the suggested threads but didn't get a clear answer on my problem, so no lmgtfy...
I have a mytouch on tmobile and am able to turn off data, but still receive MMS.
Problem: I have a Infuse on ATT, when I turn the data off and receive a MMS it just sits there and says downloading - so I enable Data and it still sits there for hours and says downloading, I am not able to download the MMS. I have a data plan on t mobile and am aware that it works fine if I have data on all the time (which drains the battery like crazy).
My question, is there not an automatically turn on and off mode if you receive a MMS option, or at least a redownload/cancel option after I turn on the data?
Thanks in advance!
Im not sure on stock ROM but yeah many custom ROMS have options for MMS.
You probably just have to go into Advanced settings and adjust to your needs.

Also check If your APN for MMS is correct since your on T-mobile and some roms dont Auto adjust APNs
(Where??
1.-Setting---Wireless--->network--->Access point names
2.-Input your T.mobile APN data
You dont know it? call T-mobile and ask for it)

On mytouch it works fine, thats on miui
The Infuse is the problem, and I am on stock ATT android, fresh out the box... thats where I need help...
On ALL ATT phones that I have ever had REQUIRED data to be on, stupid, I know.
It's been like that from the days of my 8525, Tilt 2, Iphone 4, and Infuse. I think it's something with ATT, because all my phones were modded and IP4 was fully JB with custom IOS and when I turned data off I had same problem on all phones, it just gave me the option to re-download when I turned data on on IP4
Same here on rogers you need data to be on.

damn, do you guys think a ROM would fix that issue.
I know my miui on the mytouch has automatic enable data when a mms comes in... i just dont know about the infuse
the problem i have is, that even when i turn it on after i see that it came in, it wont dl it...
I turn my data on when i get an mms and it downloads fine. Thats on stock and custom rom. My wifes rooted inspire turns the data on automatically when it receives a mms. Thats pretty cool

Yes the way HTC handle the data is mms will still download if the data service is turned off. But come to think of it my captivate worked the same way as long as I was not running an AOSP rom as it handles data being turned off differently

No longer able to send MMS

Hey guys, I can't seem to find it anywhere, but I was able to send mms for a while but all of a sudden I cant anymore. I am on skyics stock with romracer kernel. I'm pretty sure there isn't a bug in the rom about mms, unless I was on a different rom when I was able to send mms. I changed to various apns, (PTA doesn't work for my area at all), and only phone or wap.Cingular work for me but I still can't send mms. Sorry if this questions been asked. Tried to search but on phone and couldn't find a fix. Thanks guys.

I know you said att PTA doesn't work for you, but maybe try the apn in the cyanotouchwiz rom thread. Also double check that your mms proxy doesn't have HTTP:// before it and your mom's port is 80, authentication set to none, and mmsc does have HTTP in front of it. Network troubles could be a difficulty as well. Att is always io to some bs in my area.
Just deleted the http:// and it still wont send. My apn looks the same as the thread says also. I am able to receive the pictures just not able to send. Does that mean anything?

Just wondering, have you checked to see if you have packet data on under settings? MMS will not work unless you have that on.
Agree with above

Not receiving MMS - Sprint?

Hey everyone,
Have searched the forum for it and there's a bunch of recommendations on updating the APN and such. I bought my NS4G not too long ago, and MMS has been spotty. Here and there I would be able to send and receive pictures, but as of recent, nothing's been really sending/received.
Every time an MMS comes through, I tap download and it gives me an error to try again. I downloaded an app, APN Settings Shortcut since I couldn't find under Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks. And here's my setup so far,
"Sprint"
Name - Sprint
APN - Sprint
Proxy - Not Set
Port - Not Set
Username - Sprint
Password - *
Server - *
MMSC - http://mms.sprintpcs.com
MMS Proxy - Not Set
MMS Port - Not Set
MCC - 310
MNC - 120
Authentication Type - PAP or CHAP
APN Type - default,supl,mms
APN protocol - IPv4
APN roaming protocol - IPv4
Bearer - Unspecified
Not really sure what to do, I'm getting frustrated. I'm not sure if it's the phone or is it just that Sprint sucks with MMS?
Phone Info - (Pretty much stock, non-rooted.)
Android Version 4.0.4
Baseband - D720SPRLC1
Build Number - IMM76D
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Try downloading GO SMS, and downloading the picture through that and tell me if it works.
Just downloaded GO SMS Pro, and yea the last 3 MMS messages that I didn't receive with the stock messaging system, downloaded instantaneously. Wow.. So where do we go from here? Lol.
I might just stick with GO SMS Pro, but am still curious on the problem with the stock messenger.
Also, thanks fr3d!
Edit - Now I noticed I also can't send MMS messages lmao. Fix one problem to have another.
I'm curious as to how you have android 4.0.4 on your ns4g, I never saw a official release, only for the Nexus S.
I also see that your baseband is D720SPRLC1, while mine is D720SPRKE1? I'm on SLIM ICS, although I've always used this baseband.
I'm on 4.0.4 btw.
Are you having any issues with slim ICS? I'll look into flashing that ROM in the future if you're not having issues.
Yea, I bought this phone and it came running 4.0.4. I could take a screenshot too.

The nexus s4g hasn't ever gotten an official update. Can you post a screenshot on the "About" in settings?

[Q] CM10 Turn Off LTE?

Anyone know how to turn off LTE in CyanogenMod 10?
Hi!
First, this is a question, so you should have posted your thread in the Q&A section, not in the General discussions forum. I've reported your message, hopefully a moderator will move the thread to the right place.
Now, you can disable LTE in CyanogenMod only if you are using an RAT-unlocked radio. The official AT&T radio is RAT-locked, so it won't work. Basically, that means you must have a Rogers phone or at least its radio, but I believe someone has posted a modified, unlocked version of AT&T radio. Do search a bit in the development forum, you should find the info you want.
If your radio is unlocked, go to System settings > More... (under Wireless & Networks) > Mobile networks > Network mode. Then, select either:
- LTE/GSM/WCDMA to connect to LTE when in a LTE-covered area, dropping to 3G/HSPA/HSPA+ when going out of an LTE-covered area;
- or GSM/WCDMA to always connect to 3G/HSPA/HSPA+, even when in an LTE-covered area.
Remember this only works with an RAT-unlocked radio.
Actually I was playing around with some settings and managed to get it to run 3G/HSPA/HSPA+
Go to [Settings -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> Network operators]
Click on ATT to reregister the network then switch it from lte to gsm/wcdma on Network Mode and it should work (at least for me it did twice and I can revert it back no prob) :good:

I don't have anything show up when I choose Network Operators. I have Automatically Choose and Search and neither produce any additional output. Any tips?
Thanks.
EDIT:
Now for the first time hours later I am able to Search and see AT&T! Upon choosing it I am able to disable LTE, even us the 2G mode. Awesome.

Don't use 'phone info' app with Jelly bean!!

I installed jelly bean rom, everything worked great but I went into Phone Info and noticed the preferred network was set to global. I went to change it to LTE/CDMA/EvDo, way wrong move! App crashed and I ended up with the a circle and slash symbol. The phone info app got set to WDCMA preferred. I was somehow after a few tries able to get CMDA PRL AUTO to take and get 3G back. Messed with it for an hour, rebooted, reflashing the modem, turning radio off and trying to change it but I couldn't even get it back to the Global setting. As a last ditch attempt before nandroiding backup to ICS where I hoped phone app would once again work. I turned off the phone, ejected the SIM card, turned the phone back on it gave me the (SIM card error, this phone can only be used for emergency, etc). While the phone was still on I push the sim card back into position (not sure if it was necessary to keep the phone on or not, it didn't detect the SIM when I inserted it. Anyway I rebooted, and BINGO 4G was back!! Took a quick peak Phone Info app and my preferred network was set to LTE\CDMA\EvDo and I quickly closed the app before I touched anything again!
This is changeable in the settings mobile data on jb leak 2
