as you can see from the enormous line, the phone is total win.
this was taken 10 minutes before they opened.
p.s. that lady just wanted a new battery for her phone and was upset that the store was still closed.
oh man.....
Heh this makes me laugh. I was pissed this morning when I had to head down to the VZW store to get a battery for a work colleague. I was expecting to have to wait forever. They had all these roped off areas with red carpet laid down and not one person standing in line.
I think with the upcoming Rezound and Galaxy Nexus, most people will wait to compare all three before making a decision. I know I will.

we've already compared y0.
No one in their right mind is getting the RAZR, so it just comes down to the other 2.
And it's not that the Nexus is better then the Rezound(or vice versa)... just moreso which one is more suited to the individual's needs/tastes.

Finally figured that out eh? About time you stopped pushing that one was superior over the other.
Noob Question
I'm sorry that I don't get this Moto bashing. Sure the first gen Razrs were well, not all that great, but they did their jobs well. Hey they were the most phones sold worldwide.
Either way, the new one looks pretty decent, what's the bad about it? The specs were not all that bad, from what I saw, so why the hate?

Nice phone except for the locked and encrypted bootloader, and the non-removable battery. Have fun with your Moto iPhone.

the screen is horrible compared to the rezound and galaxy nexus. Non-removable battery is another potential problem. The phone is very wide and doesn't feel comfortable in the hand at all.
Just came back from best buy looking to play with the rezound, razr and kindle fire.
1. Razr battery was dead, was locked up in a cabinet instead of on display. Got to hold it but wouldn't stay on.
2. Only 1 Rezound in stock and none on display, asked why, they said they haven't really set up for it.
3. Fire hadn't even arrived yet to be put on display.
Total fail by best buy. Best Buy, The Borders of 2012.

heh.. the Best Buy Mobile in the mall here had 'dummy' RAZR & Rezound phones on display. They said they have Rezounds in stock, but have yet to receive any RAZR's.
reminds me of when the hd7 launched on t-mobile. Had to go to 3 stores to find one that even had a demo unit. None of them had set up for it on launch day. Sad that carriers don't get it. If you advertise the phone, it will sell.
Yeah I don't particularly care for the RAZR (or any Motorola products). That being said, I got to play with the RAZR and it was okay. The screen sounds bad on paper, but in person, its not the end of the world. Screen was passable, still totally usable. My store actually sold just 1 RAZR, but it was a more of a swap than a return. Haha.
But then I got to play with the Galaxy Nexus and that screen was muchhhh nicer. ICS was all flashy, and to be quite honest, a bit confusing, but I guess that's expected since a lot has changed.
Also played with the Rezound and I very much liked that phone. Screen was also beautiful, and still quality HTC build materials.

The first T-Mobile store that I went to had a live demo sitting behind the counter. I got to play with it while they activated my HD7. This was a week before the actual release day too. But yes, I agree, having phones out helps to sell them.
I entered the 11/11/11 sweepstakes on Verizon's Twitter and i won a free Droid Razr, nice! I will be giving it to my wife maybe of she performs ( insert lude sex act here ) for a ( insert a crazy lenght of time here ) I wish it came a few days back I mean come on I just bought her a phone off ebay for 100 bucks.

Wow, complete fail. I knew I had my doubts about anything made by Kyocera, but I was not prepared for utter cheapness and ugliness of this device. And the screen quality - don't get me started. I felt like I was looking at a Blackberry from 2005.
The dual screen concept is nice and probably will be improved over time. But this first trip out of the barn really is a mule with a broken leg and a bad case of the mange.
If you were tempted to use your EVO trade-up for this device, save your time and money and wait for the EVO 3D.
Right now the only Android MFR's to consider are Motorola and HTC IMHO. Didn't think this device was worth anything anyway
Well OK you can add Samsung to this list
I was looking at this phone when I realized my 2 year was up on April 1st. It seemed interesting but I just knew there wouldn't be any app support for it. I have read a few reviews saying that the hinge, although goofy, is surprisingly strong.
I was going to just wait until the Evo 3D came out and not even get the Evo, but I caved. In a way I'm glad I did though, I have it all rooted and installed C7 on it with Tiamat 3.5.7. I used these forums to customize my hero as well.
Probably sucks now but if Samsung tries it with dual super amoled then it will be great since they are best company at hardware wise when it comes to phones but not software but that is y xda is here

Dual screen cellphones are a great idea. I personally feel they may be the wave of the future just like multimonitor computer setups are so popular now. However, this phone is little more than proof of concept. Sprint will take a bath on this.

Thanks for confirming what I already suspected. I have not had a chance to handle one yet, but the looks alone told me it was gonna be el cheapo. Kind of a shame really. The concept is pretty cool. I don't think it's going to last because of the introduction of flexible LED displays in the near future. Much better if you don't have to have a seam in the middle of your display!
Op, maybe you can complain enough to get the phone removed. You seem to be good at that...

I demo'd this phone in store today, also. Sprint tech was "watching TV" on it at the front counter. Played with it for five minutes:
Hinge has an addicting snap sound to it, as is the whole process of folding/unfolding the phone. Even having a 1GHz Snapdragon, the phone was still laggy (opening apps, scrolling through the drawer). As we all figured, besides the Sprint bloatware, this phone is pretty much AOSP--I don't believe Kyocera ever threw in their own frontend.
Rep was running Sprint TV for roughly twenty minutes, and battery was already down to 78%! Battery percentage indicator is stock, at least. LOL! Kyocera has thrown in an extra battery in the package for a reason.
Screens by themselves are SMALL! We know the specs, but looking at the screen IRL leaves MUCH to be desired. All in all, it's a novelty, at best. You're not getting anything practical out of a dual screen phone unless you ABSOLUTELY need to shave MILLISECONDS off of your time. This phone is a miss for me, which sucks, because I was looking forward to it because my phone upgrade is due in July. EVO 3D, here I come.
My oldest son was buying his finacee an evo while my youngest son and I played the echo...I asked the manager how many they have sold and he said no a one...That was 1:34 pm today.
Within 3 minutes of playing with the echo I was blah....

Critical battery, guess it's been 2 hours, time to change to the other battery :/...
I bought one yesterday to replace my EVO which I have had since launch and had the extended battery for.
I just cannot understand where all the hate for this phone comes from. With the screens open it is nearly tablet sized. I call this phone more of a "tablet crossover", where it does great as a phone and then when needed gives you a ton of room to work on things in near tablet size.
The phone is also pretty small, but thick. Feels good in hand and in pocket and very well built.
Battery life yesterday was fine mostly connected to wifi. Today will be my first day out and about with it.
It has been buttery smooth for me, no stutters or lags. I've already become used to the small black space between the screens and don't even notice it. Not sure on the comment about the screen quality, both displays are superb in my opinion.
Sure, the phone is different than anything we have seen before. So far it has exceeded my expectations and I don't miss the Evo at all. Can't tell you how nice it is to flip the screens together to get some work done and have all the extra space.
A couple other thoughts -
I have mostly used it with apps full screen in tablet mode, and it has worked beautifully for nearly everything I have tried, including apps like Pulse reader.
Simultask works well also, although I haven't found myself using it that much. Was cool when I saw some mails coming in and I was browsing the web, I brought the mail client into one of the screens and continued to browse as I was reviewing mail. Also it's great how the mail client uses both screens to list mail on one screen and review on another.
Camera app is awesome with how it uses both screens.
Pretty much vanilla android 2.2 all the way around. Very nice in that regard.
Thread moved to General.

Actually, I am good at helping people. Perhaps that is why I have 420 thank-you's compared to your 23. If you spent less time attacking me and more time learning enough about Android where you could assist others, maybe you won't look so foolish by comparison next time?

As with any phone, it is a matter of taste. For those who are more into utility and care less about aesthetics, this phone is probably fine. However, I am surprised you don't notice that the image quality on the screen is far inferior to the EVO? Like I said, I am a big fan of THIS IDEA, I'm just not a fan of this phone. Seems more like a proof-of-concept than a finished product.
Glad you like your Echo

Not surprising one bit. This was the last time I ever purchased anything from Kyocera. The lens cover decide to close when you turn the power ON and open when you turn the power OFF...after 2wks of pampering.
I'm really nobody special but just thought I'd post my thoughts here. I've been an avid Android user since fall 2009. I went from the Sprint Hero to the Eris, OG Droid, Incredible, DX, and then made the jump to VZW's iPhone in Feb 2011.
The iPhone 4 is a great phone, but I miss Android. My wife has a D2 and wants my iPhone 4. Well 4g is just now being turned on in my area....so........she has approved my purchase of the TB as long as I sell her D2 to help cover the cost!
She gets the iPhone and can Facetime with her sister (they live 3 hours apart).
I'm touching base here, obviously I'm sure that most people are happy with their TB but please let me know what you think?
Is it worth the effort?
What are some things I can do to prep for battery life? I'm considering a second battery and have read about disabling 4g, but I'm not as likely to do this in my area now.
On another note...I'm doing this partly because of the discounted rate we get right now and I'd like to make sure that unlimited 4g data is on there at our current rate.
My last note: I'd never take the D2 over the iPhone...just saying If this doesn't work out I may consider a switch to Sprint when the EVO 3d comes out
Get it. Or not. Its your call and you already know what you want, most likely.
Personally I wouldn't trade my TB for anything. I hate apples overcontrol and 3d is one of the dumbest marketing gimmicks for a phone I have seen in a long time, just saying.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I would go TB before Iphone 4 twice on Sunday, but I would also grab the extended battery while there
I don't recommend the extra battery thing. Wait till you see how much of a ***** it is to open the battery cover. I've only opened it twice (once to put the SIM/battery in when I first got it, and once a few days ago because I had to do a battery pull). Everytime I open it I feel like I'm going to break the damn thing!
I got a TB, and so far I like it a lot. The only thing I have against it is the battery life (but I have got it down to a manageable level). So if you are away from the charger a lot, grab a spare.
And plus, you can still videochat with the TB. I'm sure that there will be a solution for iphone to TB videochatting out there.
The 4G is wicked fast, to the point I feel like slowing down if I have to get on wifi. Plus, since VZ is not charging premium for 4G access unlike another carrier, and not to mention locking into unlimited data before it goes away some day, these 2 factors convinced me to jump in.
All in all, I recommend.
That sucks, I've considered the inductive charging back but that would rule out the Ballistic HC case.
A few good options; root it and put a good Rom/kernel and/or get the extended battery. I've done both.

My plan is to stop by BB Mobile during my lunch hour. If they won't match VZW's off-contract price then I'll go across the street to VZW. I just figure I should try to get the RWZ points on top of my bank points

I'm waiting for Skype to release their fix before installing it. The wife and her sister currently use Skype, just not on her D2. They use their PC's, but now they'll have another option.

Good choice. I'm going to switch my wife from an iPhone 4. Couldn't be happier with my TB.
I like my TB, wouldn't trade it in and I'm like some people I hate Apple. That does not go to say cause I'm an Android user. TB is my first smart phone, ever.

Go for it, you'll love the phone.
I have no regrets, even more so since neither Moto or VZW have squashed the rumors of the Bionic being scrapped, which was the device I was waiting for. Add a 1yr contract on top of that, and everything is roses.
As far as battery life.. I bought a spare release day thinking it would be a good idea. I havent used it once..
Keep your auto sync'ing to a minimum, display brightness mid level and dont run battery sucking apps and you're fine. I get through a day no problem with normal use, and I am running slightly OC'd at 1.2GHz.
I have had mine for 26 hours… Here is my impression. Battery life is not bad at all if you turn 4G off which I did because I don’t even have it in my area. Everything else is great… except one of the worst kickstand designs ever designed.
First off it’s on the wrong side so you can’t have the kickstand out and have the USB cable plugged in at the same time. As stupid and terrible of a design that is it’s not that big of a deal as I really don’t see myself using the kickstand that much.
The real problem is that the kickstand covers the speaker!!!!
It’s just beyond me why they did this. You want to talk on speaker, or listen to music, or watch a YouTube video… whatever. Well the audio is going to be muffled compared to if you have the kickstand out always… no matter what. Even if you can hear fine you always know you could hear it better if the kickstand was out. So you will always be walking around holding your phone with the kickstand out for no reason other than just so the speaker won’t be covered.
Its design flaws like this that just drive me f’ing crazy!! I want to just remove the kickstand altogether. It’s something that is a hindrance like 95% of the time and might be a benefit maybe 5%.
Just drives me crazy
.
Other than that its awesome.

After getting an email from VZ saying I was eligible for an upgrade at promo prices, I went to BB to get a Bolt and charge it to my BB card until I sold my Droid X. 15 minutes after the guy at BB Mobile told me I would have to buy at retail price or activate on a new line, I was walking out of Verizon with my new Bolt, charged to my Verizon account. Sold the X the day before my 14 day trial period with the Bolt was over. I was sweating that one out as I didn't really want to go back to my DX after getting to know the TBolt.
Long story even longer, be prepared to hear that you can't get the Bolt from BB at less than full retail. I'm not saying you can't, just be prepared.

You are correct and it went down in an ugly fashion. The store manager approved the price match...however the BB Mobile Manager refused to authorize the match. I let them know my disappointment, especially since the store manager approved it. I've worked retail, and if the store manager messed up they usually honored it for that occurrence.
I literally went across the street and purchased the phone from VZW at $130.00 cheaper. The sad thing, I was actually going to purchase an invisible shield and couple of other accessories at BB so it wasn't a total wash if they honored it.
I emailed customer service with the store number and let them know about my experience. It probably won't go anywhere but I really did think that it was messed up, especially since they took me through most of the transaction prior to notifying me.
BTW some beautiful numbers! Not the best, but I'm very happy!

i've been using android since the g1 with tmobile, switched to the nexus one, got the mytouch 4g then switched to verizon for the thundertold (preorder may i add)
Used the iPhone4 for Verizon for about 3 days and the TB came out so i returned the iphone and got the TB, couldn't use that phone for more than a week. Battery life sucks, phones too big, feels like a brick, and can CAN BE USED AS A DEADLY WEAPON! sad to say i'm using the iphone, again. Only cause this has higher value then any android phone @ verizon and I can get more $ out of it when I sell it.. I was hoping to pick up the Incredible2 but no lte? forget that. Good luck man, hard choice but the iphone isnt that bad..but i'd still take android os over iphone, just not the thunderbolt
Early last year, HTC got it, and Samsung got it late last year. So who will get this years? I think Motorola personally because there one of the 3 largest Android phone producers besides HTC and Samsung. It was rumored last year that Motorola would be making the "Nexus 2"

Aaaaaaa.... no. We are speaking about a phone, not a tablet. You want to hold up a 5" in your face ? I don't think so...
It should be a 4" or below. Personally, I think NS has almost the perfect ratio for the screen size, not too big to hold in your hands, not too small for your fingers to glide.
Also, Motorola ? Really ? Damn, I sure hope not. They suck, as well as LG and Sony. Crappy handsets. HTC is the prime factor in build quality. Samsung takes up no. 2. And that's about it. And because everyone would love a SAMOLED+ display on the new Nexus, then I guess Samsung is the way to go (again). I wouldn't mind it, its current build quality is not very bad (but not as good as HTC's).

You beat me to it!
There was the rumor going around about an LG Nexus tablet, but maybe they'll manufacture the next Nexus phone instead. Crazier things have happened.
Whoever gets it, I hope they bring back the contour surface. I think thats what makes nexus s look so unique.
It would be nice if they did a joint venture of HTC and Samsung. I love HTC construction, nice alluminum unibody, and the qHD Display looks pretty good too. Though the SAMOLED+ isn't a slouch neither. But I am would love to have the dual-core Exynos CPU not to mention Samsung flash mem and cameras. I'm sure however it shakes out it will be yet another awsome phone.
If I had my choice and had to choose one manufacturer I'd have to say HTC. quality is just so much better. If feels like a highend phone when you hold it. The Nexus S doesn't. With that being said I doubt Google would go back to HTC or Samsung. Who I think is going to be next is Motorola. Especially if LG is going to do the Tablet. Only makes sense. But who knows maybe they'll get RIM to do it. RIM is doing a lot of Android stuff with there phones and software. Maybe its the natural progress. Though it would be very very weird.
Maybe Apple might ditch their dumb IOS and join hands with Google and Make iNexus
I owned a lot of HTC devices before. While I do agree that the phone feels right in the hand, I have to say that nearly all of them had to go to service once. The only exception was the HTC diamond. The n1 with the faulty power button, the desire twice with faulty motherboard. The screen on my ex DHD was way washed out. I do think that slowly, HTC is getting out of the competition. One with the outdated hardware (except for the sensation) e.g thunderbolt, desire s, incredible s... and then with the locking of the bootloader.

I think Samsung hardware is far eclipsing the thought of HTC having better hardware. Samsung's fault is their SW update track record, but their hardware is top-notch. Can anyone say they haven't had a problem with an HTC device? From flaky touchscreen response on the Nexus One, to terrible speakers and battery life of my Desire, Inspire, Desire Z, and everyone's Thunderbolts, can we really compare these devices to Samsung's SAMOLED+ and better-than-average speakers?
Here's what people should be saying:
"I like the aluminum bodies that HTC phones have."
Should be Nexus X(peria)
from Sony. ..
I think LG will be the next one to get it and it might have a dual core processor.

I disagree. The build quality of my Nexus S is far superior to that of my HTC Evo.
But I do agree completely that 4 inches is the absolute max screen size.

I agree. All my HTC phones have had bad build quality. I think all people consider with "build quality" is the materials on the outside when it also should consist of do these materials actually function or last? So many bad build quality reports from HTC. Glass coming off the EVO, Nexus Ones bad touchscreen & power button, bad battery life, bad screens in the MT4G, etc.
I preferred my Nexus S's build quality to my Nexus One any day.
But, of all the manufacturers, Motorola has been my favorite. All of them have been so solid and sturdy in hand. Never any build quality problems and their quite rugged (some). I have no experience with Sony, but my LG Incite had horrible build quality (creaky, but so easy to take apart. Just like taking a hard case off a phone basically ). Samsung is so-so. My Nexus S was excellent, my Captivate was not. The Captivate just doesn't feel right to me. Not sure why there is so much hate for Motorola (I suppose the locked bootloader? And all the accusations of Blur when people haven't tried it/ used it since the 1.5 phones) and so much love for HTC when they have so many problems.
Just looked at the one I got from I/O and it had light leakage pretty bad on the left bottom corner. I had to talk to a Samsung Rep and show him to exchange it. He said I was not the first one with this problem. I guess LG is not the only one with quality control issues.

Most LCD screens will have this.
Does your exchanged unit have this?
Damn, was looking at this or the Playbook.

IIRC there aren't any android tablets with AMOLED display panels yet...
Getting a LCD device an complaining of "light leakage" is akin to purchasing a hummer and complaining of poor gas mileage. That said, I'm not sure why we need a thread about the 10.1 Samsung tablet's "light leakage" in the G2X thread....give it a rest people....

Haha...very true.
It's inevitable. LCD screens are LCD screens like he said.
It doesn't bother most people..

This forum needs quality control with posts like these
LCD's are NOT supposed to have bleeding. i've only had 1 phone ever besides the g2x that had screen bleed and i returned it and new one didn't have it. my g2x now doesn't have it (had to get through 5 to find one though but hey problem solved).
just because most phones cost $500 these days instead of $50-$100 10 years ago doesn't mean that the bar should be dropped on quality. $500 is a lot of money not to mention $700-$1100 for tablets. theres no excuse for poor quality so don't listen to people who say you should just be ok with that. you would only be allowing companies to keep producing poor quality items if they don't get returned so the company can see first hand the profit losses from poor quality control. the reason people pay a billion dollars for a phone is so they can have a TOP END device.
its sad that people are getting so used to paying such high costs that they would be ok with paying several hundred $ for an item made incorrectly, then consider this to just be normal, and then tell others that "that's just how it is." that mentality only makes things worse for everyone in the long run.
that sucks about the galaxy though cuz samsung usually makes good screens. weird though sense they were reporting on doing a $7.8 billion deal this year with Apple to sell apple processors and LCD screens for the iphone and ipad (yeah its true, read it on engaget. apple is pretty much samsung but with their iOS) even know they were suing each other, lol. makes sense why ipad2 has some bleeding on some units though. i heard LG did some of the ipad2 screens too (from a tmobile rep). which may or may not be true though.

I think its more like buying a hummer with the tint on the window peeling. sure you can live with it, not many people will notice it, but would you still keep it or have them fix it?

I dont know why everyone just keeps saying that LCD screens just leak light. Thats not at all true. Ive had an iphone, G1, Mytouch 3g, Nexus One and G2 and none of those had light leakage. I dont understand if its just suppose to happen then why are other companies keeping their QC under control?

Amen Brother! And for some a TWO YEAR CONTRACT! I found from the G2Xforum how many ppl are content with mediocrity with the products they purchase. I had my G2X for a week before I took it back I've been waiting for the intial production wave to go through before going back. If it persists then ill move on to the next device.
If you think this is bad? Nokia N73 was horrible.
4 dots of leak shows on one side of the screen. How do think?
I was trying to compare it to my G2x....geez.

I have a guy that is selling his Bionic for $200. If I could sell my Charge for $150 and fork the other $50 with it for the Bionic, would it be worth it? I only paid $10 for my Charge about a month ago. I really like the fact that it has dual cores and has a few ICS roms out for it. I got to play around with ICS on my old Epic 4G before I sold it, and all I can say is WOW! I definitely want ICS now.

I'd say so, the screen is a definite downgrade but everything else is superior IMO. Best upgrade is probably the RAM. I guess the only other downsides are that it's a motorola phone and i heard it has trouble staying connected to 4g, like the Charge used too. But I heard that when the phone was released, who knows how it's doing now...
I would take that in an instant given the bionic is in good condition. Sure the screen sucks but it is more visible outside. Also I would expect it to have better connectivity than the Charge because it is a moto phone. The battery is a bunch bigger too, and can't forget the dual core.
Plus with the RAM you get it would have real multitasking.

Exactly, the screen isn't enough of a trade off to turn me away from the Bionic. I mean the screen isn't bad but compared to the Samoled+ with voodoo screen tuning it doesn't come close. Still, with the extra RAM the multi tasking is what really intrigues me. That's one thing this phone always sucked at and always will.
The Bionic was EOL'd before the Charge, if that means anything. Personally, I'd keep the Charge, but I don't like Moto phones, or their practices.

I figured lol.. You are the biggest proponent of Samsung phones I have seen on here. But then again you dev for fascinate charge strat and nexus
I'm pretty certain the Bionic has not hit EOL. The Droid 3 did, but the Bionic is still sold new and likely will be for a while as it's on the official ICS upgrade list for later this year.
Yeah, Bionic is on Moto's list for ICS...but that is a moot point considering CM9 is already out and pretty darn stable on it. I'm really not a fan of Motorola as a company either, but I REALLY want ICS lol. It's about twice the upgrade that Gingerbread was from Froyo.
Agree with above

Screen on the bionic straight up sucks! So does the camera. Also feels very cheaply made. If multi-tasking is extremely important and need the extra core, then ya maybe. I don't know about everyone else but I gotta have a superior screen and sound.
Why not try to pick up a Rezound? Gotta be better that the Moto phones. They have leaked ICS, with some kernel issues, but it works well overall. They might be geting S-Off soon as well, which could pave the way to ASOP and CM9.

One thing I will say that absolutely drives me insane about Samsung phones is their stock camera. Don't get me wrong, it takes great quality photos and is extremely smooth to use, but here is the problem. Take a picture in portrait orientation. Now try to share it through a messaging application other than stock, or copy the file to your computer then open it. It will show up 90° counter clockwise. This drives me bonkers that Samsung can't get this right. Sure, I have a different camera app called vignette that saves it correctly, but it is a lot slower than the stock camera.
The dual cores and ram is nice on the Bionic but overall I like the screen and interface of the Charge better. For even more Charge fun fllash it with the Tweaked v2.0 rom. Runs just as good as a dual core phone in my humble opinion. Plus in the past I have had nothing but problems with moto android phones.

Just because it's getting an update doesn't mean the device isn't EOL. The Bionic was dead in the water as soon as the RAZR came out. While the Galaxy Nexus is the next in line for the Charge, there still hasn't been a real "upgrade" for it since the Nexus is stock Android and the Charge isn't. Rezound would be the replacement for the Thunderbolt, and Lucid the replacement for the Revolution, so the Charge is the only device that hasn't been fully replaced yet in VZW's lineup.

The Charge hates your wife.
I broke my first Charge's screen and ended up using a demo Bionic that I had on hand. I used the Bionic for about a month and I couldn't get over how crappy the display was compared to the Charge. Since I look at the display 100% of the time that I use my phone, having the better display was preferable. Needless to say, I bought a refurb'd Charge for $250 and returned the demo Bionic.
