Bad? Nothing. We still have flash, it's not going away. This is a good thing, flash sucks and it's good that it's being replaced by html5.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

That's a good thing - all we need is HTML5 .

This is BS. Don't get me wrong, I hate flash, and I know HTML5 is much better. Now try and convince the content providers. They'll be hanging onto their DRM-capable flash if only to restrict content to desktops without paying extra to view on mobile (unless of course you're using my flash hack to make your phone think its a desktop

Seriously Adobe, Google has just finally turned honeycomb into a "finished product" with ICS and now just as things are getting going you're going to pull the plug? For better or worse, flash is easily one of the best features of android. Someone over at Adobe needs to quit huffing gasoline...

Adobe is stopping mobile developement only. Desktop browser will still have flash videos.
The whole point of having flash on mobile is to be as close as possible to a desktop experience. If this is true, you will not be able to watch videos on sites that did not convert to html5
I think this is really a bad news for sgs2 users. With ics coming in 2012, we may not have flash support anymore

In the grand scheme of things, this will have a negligible effect for the end-user and really just shifts the onus on the browser providers to ensure they keep up to HTML5 etc standard.
I'm sure Adobe et al. will be migrating/developing content to help push HTML5 forward as it is moving at a snails pace. This is a good thing for all.

Hi, I have foun this comment on Engadgets article, might be helpfull:
OverDriven 15 minutes ago
To all the little nooblets on Engadget (which appears to be 99% of you, judging from the comments), this simply means that they will no longer focus on displaying Flash IN THE BROWSER. AIR stands for Adobe Integrated Runtime, and it is a Flash runtime environment. In other words, it's purpose is to run Flash applications on the desktop (or as an app). Adobe simply is moving from primarily in-browser to primarily out-of-browser, which is a step up for them. Running Flash apps in a browser on a smart phone never made any sense at all in the first place. It's main use in browser is for video, and HTML5 can take care of that. "Laying down their sword", as Engadget refers to it, is not at all what they're doing. They're making a strategic move to increase their presence on mobile devices via AIR.
Also (and I get tired of saying this), if you are "anti-flash" then you're undoubtedly uneducated on the ins and outs of HTML5 and Flash. They are different tools for different jobs. Do us all a favor and educate yourself before you decide to log on to the next tech blog and act like you know what you're talking about.

While I agree with your take on what Adobe is doing. It doesn't take a tech educated person to see CPU/Memory load while using flash on either Desktop or Mobile, is far more inflated than while using HTML5

The full post is from him.
Comment about "non educated" belongs to him as well.
Just to clear ;-)
I agree that flash is resource hungry but it looks like its gonna changed little bit. I personally don't use flash on mobile at all.

I'm kinda happy in some ways.
First I've gotten sick of updating flash plug in as well as activex on the desktops.
I wasn't going to play drm videos on phones/tablets and those will have its own apps anyway.
And finally it brings clarity to me on what I'll get for a tablet.

As people start to head towards using there phones and or tablets for browsing content on the web more than ever I don't think losing flash will be an issue for us, for the simple reason that Apple are still the big guns in the mobile and tablet sectors. And as they will never support flash and are fully behind HTML 5 I'm sure the content providers will follow suit.

QFT! no one seems to understand that very little of the internet uses HTML5. flash is still standard, and it will take forever to get everyone off it. in the meantime, adobe had made sure that no "mobile" device can have full "desktop" capabilities for a long time.
flash has exponentially more usage than HTML5. fact. taking away flash means a large portion of the internet is inaccessible. this takes away from the overall capabilities of android, and ANY other flash capable OS.
i know many people who wouldn't even buy an android device until flash was released, because it was integral to make most websites work. this is still true. how do you people not see that?

"It's our belief that you'll see an Android-based version of Flash in the coming months," said Anup Murarka, director of technical marketing for mobile and devices at Adobe.
For those eagerly waiting to watch online videos on phone, this should bring a smile on your face. Adobe, ARM and Qualcomm have teamed-up to bring Flash to all phones running ARM11 and faster processors. Devices with at least 200 MHz processors, more than around 16 Mbytes of RAM and a "completely capable Web browser" will be able to render Web-based Flash content, Murarka said.
This was announced as part of Open Screen Project which aims to get Flash on every imaginable mobile device. Adobe will announce the project at the Max Developers Conference where it will also demonstrate Flash on an ARM smartphone.
Other partners in Open Screen Project like Samsung and NVIDIA are already working to support Flash. “NVIDIA is working with ARM and Adobe to ensure Adobe Flash technology takes full advantage of NVIDIA Tegra computer-on-a-chip solutions through open standards such as OpenGL ES 2.0,” said Michael Rayfield, GM of NVIDIA's mobile business.

I think Flash is already there in WinCE devices in Latest Opera 9.50 Browser of HTC Diamond. means ARM based coding is already exists its just a matter of time to port it and if Google and Adobe both Ventured into it it will be great.
good point about google adsense. and here i thought google was doing it for me

Its going to be interesting to see what is updated at the android source repository, since flash is property of adobe and not open source. We may not even have to update our phones but just the APK for the browser.
iirc the browser is considered a part of the Android software stack so most likely what will happen is an ota will update the browser to accept signed plugins. They can deliver the flash plugin with the ota update or change the current flash placeholder to let it link to an adobe download page.
So once flash is on our G1s, are they going to change the YouTube built-in app to go to the actual site, or is it still going to be m.youtube.com?
Maybe a new page that has the layout simplicities of the app, but with access to the actual site and all videos, not just m.youtube.com enabled videos?
I'm sure I'm just dreaming there, but it'd be nice

Boycott Mozilla!!

i now officially call for a boycott of mozilla and their products for the discontinued development of firefox for windows mobile, the symbian version looks great from the video. these guys are complety out of their minds and they know that. so now lets teach them a lesson by decreasing their market share by going to use other browsers such as IE8,or google chrome.i have already uninstalled firefox. these guys are such malditos nacos desgraciados crétinos tarados asquerosos for this. so whos with me?
Didn't MS release of WP7 shock the phone world? They're deviating from their ageing Windows 6.5 and focusing on WP7, and Mozilla reason for delaying development is because MS hasn't released a NDK if I heard correctly. Is a boycott applicable for a free product?
im not buying that because these mal nacidos know that they can just continue to work on the wm6.x version that they've already started developing. wm7 looks like it won't need another browser according to what I've been hearing but im gonna stick with wm6.x. I also heard that they discontinued development on the android version also.
Skyfire with flash support is better anyway. The android version is rumored to be coming soon.
No way going to boycott the best PC browser just because they are not going to release browser till WP7 especially since so many mobile browsers about.......
Talk about cut your nose to spite your face
It really sucks that they stopped development on Fennec, but can you really blame them? Since Microsoft has disallowed development of applications that rival native applications, Fennec cannot be developed and released for Windows Mobile 7 (through conventional channels). Windows Mobile 7 is just on the horizon, and Windows Mobile 6.x is slowly dying.
WM6.x and earlier, the only WM platforms that Fennec will run on, will gradually slip into obscurity and obsolescence in the coming months as Windows Mobile 7 slowly replaces WM6.x. Think about it: would you waste the time of your talented developers porting to an already obsolete operating system which will become more obscure in the coming months, when you could put their talents to better use? The decision to cut off Windows Mobile may seem unfair, but it makes plenty of sense from a management standpoint, and I can't blame them. My 2 cents.

wrong again I like google chrome better than opera or FF it uses less RAM than both of them and its much less buggy than opera, this opera suffers the same website compatibility issues as the mobile one I've ran into many sites that didn't display properly.

I think it will be good for new motorola's devices but I think they wouldn't do anythink for our phone because of make an update cost money and they can't win by doing this because this phone is no more for sale.
I can't decide if this matters. On the one hand, we're now two corporate restructurings removed from a company that gave a **** about the XT720 (Motorola [small **** given] > Motorola Mobility [no ****s given] > Google [patent warfare]). On the other hand Google has legendary awful customer support. It seems like a heads Sanjay wins, tails I lose situation.
i'll say it's extremely good news
this should help improve Motorola's phone to have unlocked bootloader and stock AOS, without all the bloatware they always put on it
I don't suppose we'll receive an update for an unlocked bootloader, no? Probably not because it seems Motorola will continue to operate separately from Google

Yes, couldn't have said it better myself. Most phones have support that barely lasts 2 years. I think this is the end of the XT720. On the brighter side, this will help google fight of apple and microsoft which were just trying to dominate the market with the patents. I see this as a good move for android/opensource as a whole!
With the capability to manufacture its own hardware, Google will be better equipped to take on the iPhone. That should be good.

Google needs Motorola to take over your living room
Google Evil Agenda
My original prediction:
Posted by Urgo at December 16, 2004 11:31 PM
"Don't Be Evil?" video - beta version
Google Xistence
For the past year now I've been predicting that within the next ten Google will 'take over the world'. Most people I tell this two think I'm crazy and this will never happen saying that Google is the best company ever and they will never turn evil. I tend to disagree.
Let me take just a few minutes to explain why I think this, and then at the bottom of this entry is a link to a flash video I found today with someone else thinking the same thing.
Facts - Google owns:
- Google is the most used search engine
- Gmail, while maybe not the most used email provider (maybe it is now?) it is definitely the most highly desired
- Orkut, while mostly blown over now is still a thriving social network site
- Google News is viewed as a #1 news site for many people
- Blogger is one of the leading blog sites and blogs are all over the news these days
- Keyhole offers a satalite imageing service
- Google Desktop Search
- Google Adsense - probably the most widly used advertising on the web these days (used even on this website although I haven't seen any return yet)
- And much much more, plus all the things normal people like myself have come up with such as the random google image in the right sidebar.
My point to all of this is the following:
Through GMail Google stores and never deletes your email. They catalog it and can do a LOT with that data. With time google can write robots to parse the data to find out every bit of data about you, who you know, what you talk about, etc. Gmail bundled with Orkut Google really has a solid grip on your social network with more detail and structure than email alone. Google knows who [email protected] really is, where he lives, what his passtimes are, etc and can link it up with your email conversations. Now to get even further into your life they have the Google Desktop Search which has already been called on being invasive bypassing security on people's PC's and cataloging files that it shouldn't.
Step back for a second, Google now knows who you know, what you talk about, details about every person, everything you say on your computer, what files you have, what is in each file, basically all of your Digital Data. Oh, also if you use the google search bar (IE plug-in) in advanced mode (default.. plus ohh! I want advanced features....) they track every webpage you go, although the desktop search tool does that as well. 0wned.
Next we start to see Google's current revenue. Blogs, Keyhole, Adsense. Wow, if the inflated stock doesn't make them enough $$$ then this sure helps. Although I don't believe Google charges for blogger right now they are setting themselves up for it in the future if blogging ever takes off as a legitimate news source... News.. Google news is one of the most used news services to gather news from many sources, sorted automatically for relevance...
Now, just think if Google DID want to turn evil (assuming they aren't already) how much of the market they already own. In the 90's people switched search engines all the time, but moving email providers, etc is a lot harder to do. In a few more years they'll have people so dependant on them and their products just like Microsoft people will be stuck with Google for better or.. worse.
More info on Google being evil is at google-watch.
Wow, well this was supposed to be a very short blog entry promoting a clip I saw today but I had to get my rant over with. Other then the Google-watch site that’s been around for a while, today on mefi I stumbled into a 10? min flash movie someone made giving a detailed rundown of a possible scenario that Google might take in the coming years towards world domination. I personally haven't come up with a scenario myself, and I am uncertain if this one is how its going to happen, but I was happy to see that others feel the same way as I do, that within the next ten years Google will takeover the world, or in this movie, the media forcing the New York Times offline.
Please take the time to watch this movie, and ignore the somewhat cheesiness of it. I really think they are being insightful and this COULD happen.
Flash Movie Of How Google Will Take Over The World
Google Plans To Kill Web In Internet Takeover Agenda
Google's Motorola Takeover Bid To Draw Antitrust Scrutiny, Analysts Say
I forgot that Motorola Mobility makes cable-top boxes. That's a plus for GoogleTV which I think is also Android based? Or is that Chrome based? I forget.
Today's android news keeps getting more and more interesting. First google and moto and now Cyanogen and Samsung.
"Steve Kondik, better known as Cyanogen, the father of CyanogenMod, has posted an interesting update to his professional life on his Facebook page. Steve, who has founded the largest family of custom Android ROMs on the planet, has just joined Samsung Mobile to presumably work on Android-related goodies for one of world's largest electronics manufacturers." -Android Police
(Can't post links yet, check Android Police)
Two developments which hopefully do nothing but improve the quality of the Android OS.
Good..Now Google control both software and hardware can make better opened source devices...stupid moto is dying , may google takes over and unlock all the moto build mobile deveice bootloaders
I was thrilled when reading about it. One of the main problems is that Moto seems to fail to optimize their hardware with the software. Meaning that, despite having powerful specs in several of their phones, it stills ends up being laggy and buggy. How is it that the Nexus S with its single core can outlag the Atrix? or even the Nexus One? resolution, graphics and processor needs to be better developed for usage.
Other than the bloatware, I find the Motorola developers really fail to take advantage of the specs and integrating it with Android.
Hopefully, the Moto and Google developers can get together and finally fix this problem. Specs mean nothing if the phone can't use it efficiently.
I'm pretty sure everyone will celebrate if Moto announces that they are switching to google stock, and turning motoblur into only widget apps, instead of a launcher apk. It still boggles my mind how companies can continue to push such applications, and this applies to Sony Ericcsons terrible Timescape app. it was already a trainwreck on the X10.

From the video, it appears that this relates to a particular app (mini piano), so in that case, I'm not sure why it's Google's responsibility to improve the responsiveness of a third party piece of software.
That said, there are some very basic reasons for why iOS will invariably be smoother and more responsive than Android almost 100% of the time.
Put simply, iOS and Android both began their respective development at totally different times. Android started development during a time when the market was saturated with keyboard-centric devices like Blackberry's and such. There wasn't a whole lot of touch-screen proliferation, and even then, those devices with touch screens were still very proprietary and basically none of them offered multi-touch. As such, Android was never originally designed for multi-touch screens; that kind of functionality is more of an evolutionary adaptation than anything else really. Android's core design principles focus on multi-tasking and cloud service connectivity in order to maximize productivity. That's why Android has always more effortlessly been good at both of those things.
iOS on the other hand was designed from ground up to be used on a multi-touch user interface. As such, iOS products have been more focused on being UI-centric, while other functions take a lower priority. Basically, when the user interacts with the screen of an iOS device, the system will drop everything it's doing (if need be) just to make sure that the UI runs smoothly. For example, say you try to interact with a webpage as it's loading on an iOS device. The device will actually stop loading the page, as long as you are touching the device to interact with it. As soon as you're no longer touching it, the page will continue to load. This is also why multi-tasking was more of an afterthought than a core principle with iOS. Apple could have easily implemented some form of multi-tasking right with their first iPhone, but considering the resource limitations at the time, that would have come at the cost of an interface that wouldn't have been as smooth or responsive.
So, to sum up:
Generally speaking, iOS will almost ALWAYS have a smoother and more responsive touch interface than Android has (unless Google basically rebuilds Android for touch screens from ground up).
That said, Android will almost ALWAYS be a better at multi-tasking and integrating cloud services than iOS (unless Apple decides to basically rebuild iOS from ground up with a bigger focus on those services).
Which is better than the other? Well, that's up to you really; it's totally subjective. If you want a simple to use UI which is smooth and responsive, then maybe iOS is better suited for you. If a more diverse ecosystem with endless customization options and very powerful multi-tasking beasts are important enough that you can accept a reasonable cost in the UI smoothness, then Android is your best bet.
thank you for taking the time to respond
for this video, I tried a dozen pianos Android and I chose the one with the least latency.
The latency of Android is a real handicap. I am shocked that no one cares.
For my part I think this problem is caused by drivers
I know this is not comparable, but on PC there is ASIO4All, a pilot able to remove this latency (but just for Audio).
I have a Galaxy Note and I hope that Google will improve this problem.
The reason Google hasn't fixed this issue is because in order to fix this issue the Android UI would have to be completely reprogrammed to accommodate a fix. If they reprogram in that manner then it would basically make every device after the reprogram a legacy device and every application would have to be rewritten.

"If they reprogram in that manner then it would basically make every device after the reprogram a legacy device and every application would have to be rewritten."
So if I understand it, Android will stay soft?
I am shocked to hear that. If true, I would not give much of its future.
Some applications are unusable with this latency, Apple can rest wisely. this is sad.
I read about it in an article from an interview with an ex Google employee. He said that a complete rewrite of the OS would have to take place

Thank you for this information.
But in this article it says that ICS has undergone a complete rewrite. What do you think ?

you should read record this video using a galaxy nexus. There is a lot less latency than you show on your video using 'mini piano lite '
It is impossible that you have touched an iPhone, otherwise you would not say that.
Everything I touch on my note have latency compared to the iPhone. And whatever the rom flashed.
To prove that I am not the only one to rave :

[Project] Metahill | Getting live help real quick to programming questions :)

Metahill Website
Introduction
The rage is all about Metahill!
Metahill is a small project made up by 3 computer science students in Karlsruhe, Germany.
We intentionally only use the state-of-the-art technologies HTML5, CSS3, Javascript und Python.
No weirdo Flash and for sure no Silverlight is required. Ah yeah, and thus the website by the way loads super-fast .
But let's come to the real thing here..
What exactly is it about?
The best thing to do here is most likely just citing the landing page:
At metahill, you can meet other enthusiasts and chat with them in real-time.
It is entirely free, ad-free and community-driven.
Simple.

Metahill is a website where you can totally free of charge (and ads-free!!) chat with ethusiasts all around the world.
The cool thing is that all communication is categorized by rooms - the chat rooms. Plenty exist by default, but everyone may make new ones.
Users help users.
Of course you can be within multiple rooms at the same time, that is no problem at all, it's encouraged!
The page then looks just like that:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
What are the advantages of metahill.com over existing medias?
There is a bunch of good reasons why Metahill can be considered "superior" to other, existing services.
We listed the most significant ones at the official Metahill help site.
I will just touch the categories in this topic. Nonetheless you can find a longer description on each of these at the help page http://www.metahill.com/help
Uniformity across all devices
It is easy to get involved
It is lightning fast, thanks to open standards
We're organized
Beyond text
Never again miss anything
Behind all this is an open community
Metahill is simple to use
Community-revised code on German servers (Nope, NSA!)
To the original list.
Why im I posting this?
I like XNA and the people around here!
Leaving this aside, we also seek freaked-out beta-testers "early adapters" who would like to test metahill or even get involved.
This project is now online since a few month and keeps running quite stable, yet we need waaaay more users for the network to reach its full potential!
What is _your_ top-feature of metahill?
Messages are (if you choose so) logged for three days and there is a real bunch smilies and easter-eggs. Awwr, I like easter-eggs.
Yet my favorite feature is that I can share images so easily. Drag'n'Drop (or CTRL-C/V) your picture into the browser and the others will see it. Dude, it can't be easier . Problem reporting is a dream.
Metahill for (Web)Developers
One thing at the beginning: The developer page can be found at http://d.metahill.com.
What's planned are Android and iOS apps of Metahill.
You can embed Metahill as a client within your websites using iframes.
For instance to comment live-streams, let's play's or just to offer free live-support on your website.
To the "Embedding Metahill" Blog-Entry.

I hope we will meet there too and look forward!
so long,
Michael
Why don't you support at least IE10? I'm browsing from a windows 8 tablet, and I can't even get to a landing page? Nice.
BTW: I really like XNA too.
We support Chrome, FF, Safari and Opera. IE still does not meet our standards, nor does it meet state-of-the-art web standards. The IE10 is at the technological level of Chrome 16. The current Chrome version is 29 and 30 is just about to come out. I strongly encourage you to use one of the four above browser if it is possible.
That is the reason why we both confidentially and intentionally do not (and never will) support the Internet Explorer.

That's great, but that "never will" tells me that this comes at least in part from an ideological bias, and not purely a technical obstacle. I was going to ask which particular features are you using that are not supported in IE10, but I suspect it doesn't really matter.
Anyway, best luck in your project, and I hope that you'll keep your cool and be pragmatic when tackling many of the challenges that lie ahead in your path.

Thank you, sir! The technical issues lie in CSS3 and HTML5 support. We use many of the features that just came out a few months ago to get the most out of the current web. Using the latest technologies like WebSockets over here improves the speed dramatically. We tested a lot with IE yet to make it work properly there much extra work would currently be required. Adding numerous exceptions to the code will impair the user experience of the users who use one of the four favorited browsers.
Yesterday we had a little re-design. I hope you like it!

New:
Once again many little things have been improved.
The focus has been set to practical computer science topics, such as various programming languages and platforms.
Examples are the new rooms "C++" and "Android".
