is the november 9th "launch" still happening? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

if so, when and where? i haven't seen any sort of buzz about it on any of the blogs at all. is the prime really delayed and asus just figured we'd forget about it?

Half the threads on the first page deal with this question. Now there`s another one???

No, it's delayed until December. It's going to launch with Ice Cream Sandwich.

If its delayed, then I'm not going to get a TF Prime. Especially if that HW is delayed just so we can get a purely useless update to 4.0 out the door.
Purely useless in the wifi only tablet sense.

It never was soposed to be released on the 9th it was going to be officially announced on the 9th people just saw that and decided that that was the release date without any actual confirmation

ICS and Transformer?

Is there anything official on whether or not the Transformer will get the 4.0 OS update when/if it is released in the next couple of months?
If not official what is the general consensus?
Thanks!
You sounded so much more "positive" in your other post.
That's because I'm a freaking newbie here! I also read a link since then in the other post where it looks like Google is pretty much requiring 18 months for updates on Android devices so I'll say it here to since no one else will... The answer is YES!
One thing is for sure: if you root your TF, you'll have ICS.
I thought that it was only required to be a part of that new alliance or whatever it's called. Asus isn't part of that alliance is it? However, all that aside, I would be shocked if we didn't get it. Asus has been the best at getting updates out of any manufacturer that I've seen so far.

Asus is a member (handset manufacturers): http://www.openhandsetalliance.com/oha_members.html
Not much is known about ICS, other than that it is a combination of Honeycomb and Gingerbread. The Nexus Prime is coming out soon, which will be the first ICS device, so we can only wait.
i'd be willing to put money on Asus upgrading to ice cream sandwich. They seem pretty committed to the transformer and have been quick to bring out updates. The fact the latest update gave us the choice to change the mouse cursor on the dock (after many complaints) shows they're paying attention to what people are saying.

Google to take on Apple iPhone with new Samsung Nexus Prime

Google to take on Apple iPhone with new Samsung Nexus Prime
Google and Samsung have announced that they will reveal "what’s new from Android" on 11 October. Sources inside the companies confirmed that the event will see the launch of a major new product, heavily rumoured to be the Samsung Nexus Prime.
The new handset that will run Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of the operating system.
The San Diego event will be the first time Google has launched an operating system that runs on both tablets and phones, and takes place the week after Apple is set to announce its latest iPhone in California.
Rumours about the prime’s specifications suggest it will feature a dual-core processor, a large 4.5? screen and 4G capabilities for countries where they are available. Speculation has also suggested that the event will include a new tablet, or at least an update for the software currently running on existing Samsung tablets.
Google has been keen to emphasise that, despite continued wrangles over patent law, it is continuing to launch new hardware and software. A spokesman said that “Microsoft are resorting to legal measures to extort profit from others’ achievements and hinder the pace of innovation. We remain focused on building new technology and supporting Android partners.”
The search giant believes new hardware and new announcements with manufacturers will convince the industry that it will not be cowed by legal action.

so if this is to be believed ICS is the finished article already,i was under the impression it would be nearer the end of the year before we would see ICS, and the 2.3.5 leaked update has only appeared on here
I still say this..If android had the quality of apps that iphone has forget about the iphone all together...Android for me is tops and my galaxy s2 i love it to death...i am sure we are going to get the update of ICS and im sure Gadget or any other dev will port it to us once released....
I am waiting for the s3 to come out next year and im sure that will be one of the best phones when its released..For the time being as long as devs support our handset no need to change it...
and figure it out bud. apple knows that android is growing day by day month by month..so they try and bully the way to get competition out...great post and i am sure you will get many opinions in here
Yeah i doubt ill be changing my phone until next year at the very least i only have the GS2 under 4 months anyway.
I'm surprised though that a leaked version of ICS had not been posted on here when according to this article it will be on this new phone which will be launched on October 11th in 10 days time.

It's a google device, they always get them first. If we're lucky and ICS source is released to Samsung et all on Oct 11th then we might have a leak come November. God knows when an official build will go out.

I wonder if this means it'll start pushing out to NS owners during that date...

Highly unlikely.
There isn't a lot of history here, but for what it's worth: The Nexus S was announced on Dec 6th running Gingerbread. The SDK was available on Dec 6th. The Nexus S became available in the US on Dec 16th. Gingerbread started being pushed into AOSP on Dec 17th. The Nexus One didn't get the OTA to Gingerbread until Feb. Apparently the OTA was rather buggy from the few threads I read (I had sold my N1 in Dec). Maybe this was the cause of the delay.
Froyo was announced May 20th, the SDK was available on May 20th. Froyo OTA'd to the Nexus One on June 23rd (that felt like a LOOONG wait) and subsequently pushed into AOSP.
We'll see what the timetables are this time around, but I wouldn't expect it for several weeks at the earliest. After the "official" unveiling of ICS if it's anything like past announcements you'll see the SDK/NDK first, followed by the push into AOSP in a few weeks, then some time after that you'll start to see OTA's to older.
Google may change it up this time and OTA to the Nexus S sooner, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
we wont get icecream till after prime release
My guess would be a month or two after
I hope Google surprises us all with OTAs to many devices concurrently. But that is even more unlikely than us getting in a few weeks.

im pretty sure google wants the prime owners to enjoy ics first. its a selling point right now.
on a side note, (i don't remember the history) were there any custom roms running froyo or gb before the official OTA was sent out?
If only they'd release ICS for Nexus S just to sorta promote it lol

You understand they postponed the product announcement. I doubt they are delaying the launch of things (especially on the hardware side).
"Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced."
The delay sucks.
Here are leaked photos and videos of the Prime running ICS: http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/samsung-galaxy-nexus-spotted-in-the-wild-video/
Why the heck was this thread moved?
Ice Cream Sandwich relates to Nexus S, even if there is conversation about Nexus Prime thrown in.
The heck?
Yeah, they aren't delaying any launch. In fact, they will probably just move the announcement to later in the week. It will not affect any dates other than maybe they move the SDK release back two or three days.
Woohoo!
Bring it on!
I hear it's in 29th October
I wish ICS on my Captivate
Gah, first no SGSII on Verizon, now a delay in the announcement for ICS and the Prime? God, why are you punishing me!?
Does this mean that 3.0 + is going to be available for mobiles also ?
Time to wait and see.

ICS for Sensation

I know that many of us have been following development of ICS for our beloved Sensations... They have announced the release in early 2012
After providing a vague answer regarding which devices would receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, HTC has just released a full bore list of the first devices that will see the update. The great news for T-Mobile fans is the knowledge that both the HTC Sensation and HTC Amaze 4G will see Ice Cream Sandwich. HTC says that the update will come in early 2012 and that we should “stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details.”
We can’t blame HTC for not offering up a solid timeframe considering Google hasn’t released the update itself and we imagine once the carriers get their hands on a final build they’ll be in a better position to provide a solid timeframe. Still, we’re thrilled to see that T-Mobile’s top HTC devices will see the Ice Cream Sandwich update and hope that it makes their owners happy too.

Umm why did you not just post this in the thread that has been going for almost three weeks now on ICS on the sensation. i mean it has been covered there and another thread that was started today. Plus we just needed a link and not a copy and paste post of it. I am not trying to be a downer just reminding people of the forum rules on starting a thread is all.
you can like slap him for saying that.
Kinda weird, this article. ICS just came out, what's the problem with having to wait a few months? It won't be outdated in February, it'll be the current Android version then too. And this press release of HTC means that they're working on bringing it on Sense right now.
If you've ever had an LG phone, you'd know that 6 months of waiting and empty promises of an upgrade is no big deal. And if you've ever had a Samsung, you'd know that getting ANY official confirmation about any possible update would already make you lucky as hell.
HTC is being very fast here, and to me it just seems like these people are never happy. If HTC announced ICS was coming next week, everyone would be whining about how it seems rushed and how buggy it will be..............

Well said!

With TFI getting dead last attention from ASUS as of late, they better be optimizing

they better be optimizing the hell out of Jelly Bean in prep for a massive promotion of the TFI's Android 4.1 rollout.
I personally feel ASUS have neglected the Infinity tablet worse than they did when their Transformer Prime was their most newest Transformer.
I've not seen a single update notification from them since I got this tablet on July 30th, and it's now September 8.
Do they still have that facebook page they use to respond to?
There hasn't been any new news from Googling the Transformer Infinity (besides it's launches in Europe and Australia) since it's reviews and launch reports that were made in June and July.
I know Google intentions were to boast it's Nexus 7 tablet, but wouldn't it made since to keep your more premium tablet running your software on the same level of promotion?
Key: TFI = Transformer Infinity
Havent even seen Gary Keys set foot in this forum even to say hi. Prime is discontinued Gary move on to the Infinity forum and save the tablet by giving insights to what is up. The infinity still has bugs that needs terminating and this is suppose to be the high end of transformers. Its suppose to get some high end service... Right? Hehehe..

Gary Key was trying to cover and hide the issues with the Prime and save Asus's reputation. He is in marketing, not engineering. That was all a big joke. The Infinity doesn't have near the issues the Prime had so Gary wont come over here unless the media starts reporting negatively on the Infinity. I will still never forget Gary Key saying in that interview that the Serial Number Unknown issues were fixed server side when there were dozens of people on these forums who still had the problem and the only fix was to send in your tablet and get a replacement. He flat out lied and I'm glad he isn't around.

We technically have a "leak" too with the guy who got the OTA in that other thread.

why do people make these threads? If you are not happy with the device, exchange it for something else. Why keep buying from a company, whos reputation you don't like? They didnt force us to buy their products. Yes, there are bugs. Give them time to fix everything. They issue a fix today, and then new bugs show up tomorrow, do you expect them to release another update the next day? I'm sure people are hard at work trying to rectify all of the issues. And yes, they still have the FB page, and announced on there several times that JB would be coming this month. People just need to have patience. Every time some type of update gets announced, people start making threads asking when will we get them. technology is not something that can be created in a matter of minutes.
My Infinity is not perfect. But i can be patient and have confidence that Asus will fix the issues. Why wouldnt they? How can they just leave us with messed up devices, and then come out with new products? Who will buy them, given they got over us on the first time? Contact ASUS and voice your complaints. It really doesnt help posting them here.
