So says 9to5Google via a Youtube leak.
I wonder if this means it'll start pushing out to NS owners during that date...

i hope :crossesfingers:

Highly unlikely.
There isn't a lot of history here, but for what it's worth: The Nexus S was announced on Dec 6th running Gingerbread. The SDK was available on Dec 6th. The Nexus S became available in the US on Dec 16th. Gingerbread started being pushed into AOSP on Dec 17th. The Nexus One didn't get the OTA to Gingerbread until Feb. Apparently the OTA was rather buggy from the few threads I read (I had sold my N1 in Dec). Maybe this was the cause of the delay.
Froyo was announced May 20th, the SDK was available on May 20th. Froyo OTA'd to the Nexus One on June 23rd (that felt like a LOOONG wait) and subsequently pushed into AOSP.
We'll see what the timetables are this time around, but I wouldn't expect it for several weeks at the earliest. After the "official" unveiling of ICS if it's anything like past announcements you'll see the SDK/NDK first, followed by the push into AOSP in a few weeks, then some time after that you'll start to see OTA's to older.
Google may change it up this time and OTA to the Nexus S sooner, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

we wont get icecream till after prime release
My guess would be a month or two after

I hope Google surprises us all with OTAs to many devices concurrently. But that is even more unlikely than us getting in a few weeks.

im pretty sure google wants the prime owners to enjoy ics first. its a selling point right now.
on a side note, (i don't remember the history) were there any custom roms running froyo or gb before the official OTA was sent out?

If only they'd release ICS for Nexus S just to sorta promote it lol

You understand they postponed the product announcement. I doubt they are delaying the launch of things (especially on the hardware side).
"Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced."

The delay sucks.
Here are leaked photos and videos of the Prime running ICS: http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/samsung-galaxy-nexus-spotted-in-the-wild-video/

Why the heck was this thread moved?
Ice Cream Sandwich relates to Nexus S, even if there is conversation about Nexus Prime thrown in.
The heck?

Yeah, they aren't delaying any launch. In fact, they will probably just move the announcement to later in the week. It will not affect any dates other than maybe they move the SDK release back two or three days.

Woohoo!
Bring it on!

I hear it's in 29th October

I wish ICS on my Captivate

Gah, first no SGSII on Verizon, now a delay in the announcement for ICS and the Prime? God, why are you punishing me!?

Does this mean that 3.0 + is going to be available for mobiles also ?

Time to wait and see.

My money's on mid December for ATT if it is released in September
But in all seriousness, just look at this as a prime example.
AT&T Tilt was released on October 4, 2007. The 6.1 update wasn't rolled out until August 4, 2008, almost a year after the phone was release. WM 6.1 was available to Carriers in April of 08, which is still half a year, so I do not expect a 2.2 update until sometime next year.
Damn ATT, here's hoping to a custom ROM right after September update.

Hopefully ATT wont lag on it, cuz Sprint just announced that there Evo will have 2.2 August 3rd.
I'm sure AT&T has their top android developers working on this..... Its too bad that their best ANDROID developers consist of three guys in a basement somewhere...

All we need is a custom kernel for the Samsung Captivate and we can a bug free version of froyo on our devices right now.
To me, people need to stop asking about froyo. It's coming, it's announced and confirmed, that's great.
The question people need to be asking Samsung, so we can get them on the record committed to it now, is will you release a Gingerbread update for the phone as long as the hardware is capable of supporting it. The OS is only 2-3 months from being unveiled if Google sticks to their time table, and if the rumors are true it'll be a much bigger overhaul than 2.1-2.2 is.
So yeah, unless we want our phones to be outdated before the end of the year, we need to start making a push as a community to get a commitment from Samsung to support not just the OS that was released 4 months ago, but also the much bigger one that's right around the corner.

I would think they would be stepping up the date as a lot of the other android phones are getting their froyo in August.

When will Android 3.0 get released?

When will it get released? I have read everywhere that Google is focusing the most on the UI and im eager as hell to see it.
im also waiting to see the next android version
it might be 2.3 tho
3.0 might be released next year id say
Froyo didn't come out long ago. So i don't tnink they will bring another one out this early

Froyo was running / ported on the motorola droid within a week of the Google I/O announcement. The nexus one had it officially released 24 hours or so after the announcement.
Any build of 3.0 will get ported to most major phones (well the phones that aren't locked down, thanks so much moto droid 2 / X and the new HTC g2) in less then a week from any build released.
I thought the rumoured date was Nov. 11th or something like that
No source because i forget where i got that one from

Did you notice that google is directly going to supply the updates rather than replying on samsung.
I don't know how it will work because we have a different kernel and bootloader format that normal phones so...
If all is well, google will be able to switch out the samsung bootloaders(download mode) for a standard spl and kernels will be read as boot.imgs rather than zImages.
I hope so too. But as has been said, With the rate we're getting our gingerbread, I don't think an official ICS release for our phone is very likely...
I say official because Itll be less than a month before our devs get it to us
Okay Maybe I exaggerate... Maybe I underestimate? Either way, my point is made! lol
Now with the official release of ICS, what do you think? Are we going to have an official update, or just unofficial ROM's from our devs? When?
The SGS4G was released on 2/23/2011. ICS will ship on SNP in 11/2011. Doesn't that mean that ICS is in the 18 month window that Samsung (and others) have committed for updates?

I'm not that sure, I've only heard that every gingerbread phone released this year is able to be updated to ICS. Our phone hasn't received a girgerbread update yet but I hope we get an instant ICS update instead.
Our phone is relatively new. I assume we will get an official GB in the beginning of 2012 and possibly get ICS leaks later that year or in 2013.
I saw an official post by Samsung today saying ICS will be possible for Samsung Galaxy S & S2, but currently there is an official plan only for S2. I interpret this to ICS leaks for us, but maybe I'm wrong.

But I think that late 2012 or 2013 is too much, and why would they launch an update for GB having ICS? Sony Ericsson announced that they will update every device launched on 2011, and Motorola is going to do the same 6 weeks after ICS launch!

is the november 9th "launch" still happening?

if so, when and where? i haven't seen any sort of buzz about it on any of the blogs at all. is the prime really delayed and asus just figured we'd forget about it?
Half the threads on the first page deal with this question. Now there`s another one???
No, it's delayed until December. It's going to launch with Ice Cream Sandwich.
If its delayed, then I'm not going to get a TF Prime. Especially if that HW is delayed just so we can get a purely useless update to 4.0 out the door.
Purely useless in the wifi only tablet sense.

It never was soposed to be released on the 9th it was going to be officially announced on the 9th people just saw that and decided that that was the release date without any actual confirmation

ics source coming at nov.17

The CEO of Notion Ink, Rohan Shravan, is at it again with news about the Ice Cream Sandwich source code release, saying it will be released November 17. While it's tempting to just toss this aside as another rumor in the ICS/Galaxy Nexus craze of late, Mr. Shravan has a track record that shows he's usually right. Last year, he did the same thing with the Gingerbread release, accurately predicting more than could be a good guess, and just last month he told everyone about the OMAP chipset and Ice Cream Sandwich using them as a reference platform. When he talks, it's always worth listening, and the Nov. 17 date has already been thrown out there as the European release. If we see source code on the 17th, the 18th is going to be a very fun day for a lot of us.

No, the ICS Source Code will be made available to the public on Nov 17th. This means that Developers will be able to start working on ICS for a specific device. The advantage here is that the SGS II has a huge fan-fair also is quite open with development and has kick azz hardware, hence it will most likely be picked up for development right away with results to show soon after.
I won't lie, after reading this, I got really excited. For the past few weeks, I've been using MIUI, but once a stable ICS ROM comes out (I'm hoping/guessing CyanogenMod), I think the pure AOSP experience will be even better

We've all been patient, and regardless of whether it's Nov.17th, or slightly later, ICS is coming soon, and it will be a whole new level of operating system
Personally, I've been passing the time with Shadowgun on my I9100 (thank you Chainfire3D )
Wait a minute, Google are hosting a big Android event on the 16th! Good chance that that means they'll release the source code the day after the event, or on the day (if we assume the difference in date due to time zones). This adds a lot more credibility to the idea
I am a bit concerned about the date that Samsung is going to release ICS for SGS II.
Wouldn't this still be unusable on our SGS2 unless they release a device with proper drivers for the mali400?

Regarding drivers there is not going to be any big changes from 2.3.7 to 4.0. So it wont be a problem. Official drivers may be more optimized .

I think that's a lot of wishful thinking to expect it this month, at least a stable build for us to use on a daily basis.
I think Mid DEC should be a good time for a decent build, permitting driver compatibility and the Source Code release is on the 17th.
