Is there a way to get my Bluetooth handset to connect to my Xoom??
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
I think for someone to help you, you're going to have to specify what kind of handset you're talking about. By handset do you mean mobile phone or DECT house phone or something else?
There is plenty help around for Android phones but BlackBerrys don't seem to work.
TL;DR: need more info.

So here is the deal. I have seen the videos of people using the different tablets as phones. Here is what I want to know. Just how useful is this. What I would like to do is this. I would like to buy a wifi hotspot device like the one from sprint.
And then get a tablet that only has wifi support. I would like to use Google voice now that it supports people being able to call the desktop. So my question is can I get a tablet wifi only and setup it to connect to the hotspot and maybe even a bluetooth headset so I don't look to nerdy.
Anyways can you guys point me in the right direction to get this done?
Let me know if I didnt explain it well enough.
I would like to find a tablet that does not have wireless capabilities built in. This would include 3G (or any cell service), WIFI, Bluetooth, or even Infra-Red!
I work in an area where devices with ANY wireless capability built in are not allowed. It is not enough to simply turn them off.
So, I am looking for a tablet that does not have these wireless capabilities built in.
Any suggestions are appreciated!
I am also interested in the answer to this.
I don't think there is such a device. And if there is, it's probably a very old tablet that was made before any of these technologies were created for tablets.
The market for wireless-less tablets is so small that it's very unlikely that anyone will make them. Removing WiFi and bluetooth for a handful of people is just too expensive.
close it maybe the best way.
I'm think...
Out of interest, how would they know?
Most tablets have an Airplane Mode which will disable all wireless functionality.
Or you could root it and remove the drivers..
not worth losing the job on not being up front... it would lead to questions of a lack of integrity...
Have a dev build a ROM for you . Im sure someone would be happy to help if you were to donate for their help and time.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find anything main-stream that doesn't include all of those.
What if approached the power-that-be and present them with the idea of a disabled tablet where all of the drivers are removed? If they agree that is a solution you can then see about getting one of the Devs to build you the ROM as jtipton79 mentioned above.
Anyone find one can you PLEASE CONTACT ME ???
I have develop EMF and can't STAND WIFI, BLUETOOTH or ANYTHING WIRELESS ((((
YES, it SUCKS to me be (((, I know, but I just can't stand it.
So, if ANYONE on here READ this and find out, please please please let me know.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!

Buy a 2nd generation nexus 7. Open it and remove the internal connectivity chip. Buy an external wifi adapter and use it at home.

It doesn't natively work on the Infinity, but I'm stubborn. If anyone can give me some direction as to how best to tackle this, it would be helpful. Maybe someone else had already started on something similar, or if not, at least a starting point.
Mind you, I'm trying to tether FROM my Sprint phone TO my tablet.

Have you tried connecting your Sprint phone via bluetooth? I noticed that when I paired mine, it showed up as a possible tether point but I don't have data on my plan so couldn't test it.
I also think this thread needs to be moved to the Q&A forum.
I doubt you'll get it working through USB. I dont think the Infinity has drivers for that.
There's tons of solutions to get it going over wifi, and if you want something a little more power efficient try a combination of PDANet for Tablets on the Infinity and FoxFi on your phone to tether over bluetooth.
Sigh... the entire point to this thread being in the Development forum is to develop the drivers needed to make it work.

Unfortunately, unless you have already developed such app, this post does not belong in the development forums, which are for apps/ROMs that have already been developed, not for posts about apps/ROMs that you would like to have developed.

Already posted in Q&A. Pretty much the sames answers you received there. Dude, just wifi/BT tether... No one is gonna hack the wireless network on your phone to get free 4G internet.
Obviously I need to go elsewhere, then. I thought this would be good place to go for aid with app development, and instead all I get is 'you're dumb, do it this way' and 'Development is for apps already developed, not for those in development' as seems to be the case. Thanks anyway, I suppose.
Not trying to give you a hard time and certainly didn't mean to insinuate you're dumb. You're just asking for something that doesn't really NEED to be done and really can't be done (at the moment). There are already lots of good solutions for what you're ultimately looking to do, tether your phone to your tablet to access the net. Being stubborn about doing it via USB just doesn't make sense (unless you're not really being honest about wanting simple internet access and you need USB tether for other reasons). Who would want wires when you can do it wirelessly? Wires suck... lol.
Hopefully you'll stick around and enjoy the community. Lots of smart nice people here ready to lend a hand.
Grave digging
I've found a need for this or at least a work around. I work offshore and internet is restricted to 1 device per person. My tablet cannot tether back to my PC but my mobile can. I can usb tether my phone to my PC while on wifi. However you cannot bluetooth tether while on wifi so my tablet becomes useless. Please if you're thinking I should just bluetooth or wifi tether using my data I will ask you to log off life and KYS because as I said earlier I work offshore there is no data. Is there a way to bluetooth tether while on wifi??

It does have the drivers for it, but it requires a change in the framework to allow it to use the USB device when you plug it in. I have this enabled in cm.

Maybe I imagined it, I cant find anything but other things like this, or perhaps it was something like this that I simply didnt look into.
Seems to me though that an older cell phone should be able to do this for free!
Thanks for the reply and I will keep looking and playin with it.
There has to be some service for it to connect to - so I wouldn't say it's "free".
You could make it VOIP only - using your wifi network - and that would be free to an extent.
Using it as a receiver for a landline - I don't know, I'd have to Google it.
My dad and stepmom now just use their cell phones as their only home phones and have ditched landline service altogether - they've done so for about a year and I personally don't see any reason I'd ever get a landline unless it was basically free and came as a package with and internet service or something (but everything I've seen, it's still cheaper to just get the internet service - but maybe).

Landline is for my fax, kinda stuck with it at the moment.
First, I'm 30 and I've never even owned a cell phone. I'm very tech savvy with computer hardware/BIOS ROM flashes/linux etc. My most sincere apologies for any terminology mistakes and for not knowing enough on the subject. I've been researching this for the last week but I've hit a brick wall while trying to learn more.
I ordered a (working, stock) used Samsung Galaxy S 4G (NOT an S4). Should get it in a day or two.
I want to use it without any cell service what so ever; strictly over my home Wifi network and free hotspots. I'm planning to use Google voice or Oomas app for free/cheap voice service over wifi. The phone was cheap so I consider it a learner/throwaway phone to get my foot in the door with regards to phone rooting/flashing/modding. No worries about bricking the thing as I stumble around in a haze of noobish stupidity and ignorance.
Bleh.. I don't even know what terms to ask/search so I'll just spit it out as best I can.
The SGS4G uses a sim card or will ask me to activate a phone service before I can use it right? There are password/button combinations to manually bypass activation but that's a pain to do every boot. Is the activation built into the Kernal or the Firmware? Are there ROMs that ignore/disable cell activation nags to make this thing a strictly WiFi device? What search terms should I be using to find more info?
Apologies again for the noobish questions and much thanks for any tidbits of info you could toss my way!
I .. Think you'll have to unlock it.. U seem excited and nervous.. Don't stress yourself

You can use every android phone without sim card.
For exemple, I have one phone that is mount on my bike and I use it just for bicycle gps apps and everything is working well with out sim

Turns out its a Mesmerize. I also picked up a couple other android phones and was able to get them rooted and flashed; an LG-P505 flashed to Cyanogen 10 and a MyTouch 3G (HTC Magic 32b) rooted finally. T-mobile had a impassable "insert sim card" screen on the MyTouch 3G that took a GoldCard flash to even get into the phone.
Anyway, I'm totally stuck with this damned Mesmerize. I get nothing on the USB despite having the drivers installed and waiting. Nothing in device manager. The phone charges and brings up the connection mode announcement in the pull down. I've got USB debugging mode set. It will show a greyed out drive that i can't access when in mass storage mode and nothing at all when on KIES mode. The cable worked fine for the LG. Could the USB socket on the Mesmerize be screwed? Any way to force the phones adb client on?
Thanks again for any help you might have. Badass site here. Could read until my eyes bleed and still have more info to look through!
