[Q]ICS ROM? - Motorola Triumph

Hey, dunno if this is in right section, but is there an ice cream sandwich ROM in the works? this is a buying factor.

ICS source code is still not out. Once the source is out, it will be a few weeks before Cyanogen puts out anything usable. Then it will be another few weeks (at least) before a Triumph ROM is ready. Don't expect ICS on the Triumph until January at the absolute earliest.

Yes, seriously. Why I buy my phones and what I would like to have on them should not be relevant to the answer you (didn't) give me. /rant
Thanks for the estimate on when it could arrive. I appreciate that.
Sent from my LG Optimus V running Sense 3.0

It should be updated around April....
Edit: But we might just get gingerbread, hopefully it will be ice cream sandwich

And this is all assuming that we'll actually have someone to develop it for us.

One of these days, companies will figure out that offering a sizable prize to individuals who can develop ROMs (instead of doing it in-house) might just make development go faster and make it cheaper too.
Until then, I'm sure lots of apps will be released that helps emulate its function.

Dream on. We don't even have GingerBread yet.

What is the most stable ROM out there then, and how stable is it, not including the stock ROM?

I know how u feel, its as if theres no such thing as development for the charge, specially GB. Its as if the charge doesnt exist. Development could be better.
However I do believe the reason why there isnt much dev for GB is because people arent happy with the leaks or just want to wait for the official release. But there is lagfix for GB my guide is in the dev section. How to simply ext4 gb.

I was reading r2Doesinc's twitter and it seems he is in the beginning stages of bringing OMFGB to the Charge. If he is able to accomplish this, that is the only ROM we will ever need for our phones. It's pure AOSP goodness, if you haven't heard of OMFGB before.

Comparable to cyanogen, I love cyanogen but omfgb and omgb are awesome roms, to me omfgb is a little faster than cyan, both are pure aosp. You pretty much have to try both to see which one you like.

Another thing, 4g is new to these phones, especially 4g lte, I wouldnt say rom development has stopped, more like slowed because of this. They have to work with all the samsung and tw things, combined with 4g, you have to give them extra time. When we get aosp, trust me, development will boom

Just need some more patience, I figure every device needs about 8 months in the wild before they get near pure ASOP Goodness, even without samsung's mess of code to work with. I remember when I first started my flashing addiction, back with the htc hero.
Htc was so evil with their source to, we had devs actually make their own ril's that surprisingly worked before we had a source that would actually compile.

[Q] ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich 4) for XT720?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F_ke3rxopc&feature=channel_video_title
Looks amazing.
Probably too early to be asking this - especially considering we only recently got gingerbread - but what do you guys think are the chances of having ICS on the XT720?
Not at all, it req. 512 mb of ram minimum
yup out of question for our dated phone
Oh well. Guess I can begin considering what my next phone is going to be lol.

Well our "What will your next phone be" thread got moved for some reason to the non-phone specific general discussions sections of XDA proper.
getting gingerbread (CM7) run stable on xt720 is the last we can do for our phone
but ICS look amazing, next summer when it gets more popular I'll consider choosing one to upgrade
Honestly, I'm getting very, very, very tired of Google's constant API and apps abandonment cycle. Even if you get an ICS device, Google is bound to abandon it within a year. I am this close to just abandoning Gmail.

So The Nexus One isn't getting official ICS because it doesn't have enough space on the system partition(speculation as no one officially knows the real reason) but do you think this will be the case for many phones including the Captivate? Would suck if the bottleneck for peoples phones would be “not enough space"
*Get Chance and Luck*
There was a link to an article (unofficial) that said Galaxy S, Nexus S, and something else would get ICS.

The main speculation for why the Nexus One is not getting ICS comes down to two things: ROM storage for the system and the processor speed.
First, the Nexus One only comes equipped with 512MB of ROM. After the system files are installed, it leaves something around 200MB for apps, which is not a lot. ICS is supposed to take even more space than GB, so having something like 50-100MB for user apps would be likely...and unpleasant.
The Galaxy S phones all have 2GB of internal ROM I believe, so I don't think that issue will apply.
Second, the Nexus One has an older 1Ghz "Snapdragon" SoC. Although clocked the same as a Galaxy S phone, it is made with an older design, and performs less work per cycle. According to a few articles I have seen, the "Hummingbird" SoC in the Galaxy S phones has up to 3 times the GPU power of the older "Snapdragon" SoC...and roughly a 30% increase in real world performance.
Given that ICS will have hardware acceleration for 2D drawing, the slower processor (especially slow for GPU type elements) is likely a big hindrance, that again, should not apply to the Galaxy S line.
So keep your fingers crossed for this I guess. I will be! I am confident there will be a working unofficial release, but very doubtful about anything official.

[Q] g2x ice cream sandwich

I am a newbie to my G2x from Tmobile.
I do understand that LG has not released an update to upgrade to ice cream sandwich. Right?
So, how do I get Ice Cream Sandwich on my phone? I am computer savvy and can understand instructions if made easy to understand. I know its something about rooting my phone right?
Could someone send me instructions on how to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich?
Or is LG planning to upgrade G2x to Ice Cream Sandwich?
Help, please........

When you get there look for clockwork recovery, once you install that make a back up of your current rom and then you can install any rom of your choosing.
I never asked for help when I started so if I can do it you definitely can do it, pm or something if you got any other Q's.

The source drop has built in support for the 990 and 999 so once they get the compiles done its full HWA ICS so should solve all the issues in the hackfest roms given a week or two.
Wait until someone makes a port and proper fully working ROM for our phone, the hackfests are fun, but not for anyone who needs anything stable/daily.

Each n every Dev here is skilled. For me there has always been 3 kind of peoples. People who are end users who just buy the phone and fear to fiddle with it cuz it will void the warranty. Others are power users who doesn't care about warranty and do flashing testing and even sometimes tweaking the code (these are the extreme power users). The last are developers some who add their own logic to the code to add new things and fix things the others are extreme developers (who has the android code in their brains like people in LG and Ricardo and last but never the least Google itself)

So what about the news that the Atrix has a leaked official build of ICS now? It's the only other Tegra 2 device that is exactly like our phone. If it would have came out months ago it would have been nice but now that it's out so soon to an official release for the p990 it makes me kind of sad.

Been covered before, the Atrix is a bit too different to be of much help. It's a Tegra 2 but there are some differences.
I'm just concerned if the Korean Su660 is similar enough to the P990, and thus the P999, for its source to be of use, or if we still need to wait for p990 source?
My secondary concern is that there will be additional time/issues getting all this to work on Jelly Bean, which is what the "cool devs" are going to work on anyway.

It's the same phone, minus a button + an antenna. Besides, the p990 is pretty much a p999 with a different radio and partition, while the su660 is the same with different kernel level changes (as the p990) (or something along these lines. It will get us cm10 though)

My secondary concern is that there will be additional time/issues getting all this to work on Jelly Bean, which is what the "cool devs" are going to work on anyway.

As far as i know, the difference from ICS to JB is MUCH MUCH smaler than GB to ICS. From what ive collected so far, if we got the ics source we will be able to get JB to work almost flawlessly, maybe not perfect, but a normal user like myself wouldnt be able to tell any difference.
To me that is great news

Yes, with source for ICS, JB will run fine.
My Iconia tablet was upgraded to ICS stock, than with the source, the devs pounded out a fully functional JB ROM. I use it as my daily driver.
