[Q] ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich 4) for XT720? - Milestone XT720 General

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F_ke3rxopc&feature=channel_video_title
Looks amazing.
Probably too early to be asking this - especially considering we only recently got gingerbread - but what do you guys think are the chances of having ICS on the XT720?

Not at all, it req. 512 mb of ram minimum

yup out of question for our dated phone

Oh well. Guess I can begin considering what my next phone is going to be lol.

Well our "What will your next phone be" thread got moved for some reason to the non-phone specific general discussions sections of XDA proper.

getting gingerbread (CM7) run stable on xt720 is the last we can do for our phone
but ICS look amazing, next summer when it gets more popular I'll consider choosing one to upgrade

Honestly, I'm getting very, very, very tired of Google's constant API and apps abandonment cycle. Even if you get an ICS device, Google is bound to abandon it within a year. I am this close to just abandoning Gmail.

I here you going back windows mobile very Lilly.

I'm considering going over to WP7 for my next phone. Not quite sure yet.

Well to those on CM7 or any ROMS based on CM7
try this theme it works great!

Update : I tried the morph and it works flawlessly!

Quite amazing!!!

Well ICS source code apparently is released. Here's hoping to some magic for the XT720! (even if it's not very likely ).

I saw that earlier today. CM9 anyone? Mmm, yes have some. It's delicious. Btw, I got ICS on my Vibrant. Check it out.

Haha to funny woodrube. I hope you ate that and didn't waste it. all in all tho I played with ics a lil bit on my nexus and its pretty sweet. I really like the new youtube app and browser. It was still pretty smooth for being a sdk port. I'm sure you guys will see it before long. The only thing I'm afraid of is the RAM situation. If they get it on the og Droid you guys will get it for sure.

ICS keyboard!
Hey guys,
Another ICS goodie that works great on our phones!
The keyboard is great! prediction is better than gingerbread's imo.
I wish we could change the size of the keyboard though
https://market.android.com/details?id=inputmethod.latin.ported

i was thinking.... if they were able to make ICS run on the Nexus ONE, shouldn't we be able to get it working for the XT720 as well?
both phones are from the same era

I'm sure it'll be coming down the pipe at some point, but I'd be more concerned with getting custom ROM's for 2.2 first as that will be next to come.

we just got froyo, and while it's awesome for this leak to happen, I'm not even going to gear up for gingerbread for quite a while. not to mention that our carrier won't even be able to leak 2.3 for a loooooong while yet.
Its for the international galaxy s. I9000. If we get it it will be a year or more before we would see it.

Yup. It's like putting the ICS transition animations on a gingerbread rom and labeling it ICS.
They probably have a few things from ICS on it, but it really isn't ICS. I think it is just a publicity stunt for them to get people to download their roms.
would appear to have more than just the transitions, but you guys know best surely.

Oh I'm more with you than anything actually. It's more like a hybrid of ICS and gingerbread. Was just using an example.
T-mobile eol'd the phone and they might eol themselves. Lg will still update this phone, I don't know when, what version, when, how, or who will be the first to drop it, but one of the moderators on lg forum kinda hints at it.

[q] miui 4.0.1 p999?

So what's the deal with this galnet ICS for G2x "Galnet ICS 2.11.26". Screenshots show android version 4.0.1. Is it legit? well im running the stock galnetmiui, and it seems stable enough. i cant believe ICS has been available all this time. im gonna try to slip faux123's kernal in now.
If this is it how come CM and others aren't using it to get their cameras working?
galnet is just a framework merge to ICS it doesnt have the ICS APK's, yet that is. im guessing thats why cm team hasnt used the code, cm team is probably using the ics camera APK.
also faux123's ds kernal v 048 is working fine so far.
It doesn't have much of anything from ics except a couple of things it just just has 4.0.3 in the build prop, you can do that with 2.2 builds. I don't even think it has the basics from ics in it. It is not worth the flash IMO. It is a basic miui build with some tiny modifications that are not noticeable again IMO

Yup I agree with mt3g.
Is says that it is 4.0.1 but it is very stable. I have been running it for about a week with Morfics The Destroyer 1.6ghz kernel and it is awesome. Very stable and fast. I have not had any reboots or SOD. Wifi calling works perfect as well. You will not be disappointed if you flash this rom.

From what I gathered while on it that was when it first came out, it is a flash over zip you have to install latest miui and them the ics layover (kinda like a theme for 2.3.3) not really though lol. I didn't even notice anything different at all.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
So general consensus is no this is not 4.0.1, it's just MIUI with a BS version number.

Weather it is or isn't I don't know. But you can not go by a Screenshot of the Android Version. That can be changed in the build.prop.

Not ICS... simply has some pieces stolen...
By that logic, Tsugi has "Some ICS Code" in it... as in, I used some of the images out of ICS in the theme, as well as a little xml and the screen animations. Doesn't make it ICS.

Why are they banned?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say because they falsify information in their roms most likely. Callin this 4.0.1 is completely inaccurate. Just because it has a couple of "ICS features".
If I remember right it is just the fact the galnet asked if there versions would not be put on XDA
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
So in other words, the latest build the dev team has put out is just an amalgamation that's only partially ICS with the rest of it being part and parcel Gingerbread, huh?
Really looking forward to seeing hardware acceleration. I couldn't tell ya whether it'll really be the next thing since sliced bread.
Any word on whether this might allow us to run games more smoothly? I think I read somewhere that it's also a matter of developers writing code into their games that make better use of Nvidia's GPU? With the Tegra 2 being a CPU that's bound to age in 2012, I have to doubt that ICS will help us in games.

[Q] ICS for Infuse?

So my friend has a captivate, and he has a Stock ICS rom. I was just wondering the possibility of a Stock ICS rom for the infuse. I know there are Roms that are suppose to look like ICS, but they aren't even based off of ICS. My question is, is there a STOCK ICS rom based on android 4.0, and if not what is the likelihood of there being one?
I don't know why don't you use the search button and find out for us
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
I did, and found nothing, except for the fact that all the ones that say ICS are just themed to ICS and not even based of ICS
Or you could look at the 5th thread in this section
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
You mean the HellRaiser? How would this solve my problems exactly, I can't find any ICS roms for galaxy devices except the one for captivate, but it says in order to do the captivate roms, the rom needs to be based off samsung gingerbread. A true ICS Rom would be based off of Ice Cream Sandwich.
No. The one that has the title is anyone planning a custom ics rom

Oh, sorry. thanks. That does suck though. I think it would be a great idea. All these developers just don't want to do it I guess. I probably would have donated to someone who would do it. Ahh well. I guess the infuse gets no love.

GuidoZebra,
Read thru the general section and the Q/A section.
There are multiple posts on this topic. TONS.
Then you will understand why there won't be any ICS on the Infuse, short of a miracle.
Go back a few months.
Zeus 5.2 ICS is as close as you'll get.
You don't want ICS on this phone. Even if someone does manage it, it won't be the experience you're hoping for. It will be choppy, buggy and alot of functions won't work. Maybe some super-dev will have a breakthrough this year, but it will be a long time before anything usable, much less fully working is available. So don't hold your breath. Move on. Spend time with the wife and kids. Take the dog to the park. Try to enjoy life.

Why do you think the sgs4g needs to get ics? My phone is fast got extremely great battery life and tons of other things. Do you just want ics so you could have the latest android flavor or do you think or know it will make our phones that much better. I'm not trying to be a smartass just curious why ppl are this rilled up about ics.
I think the only reason is because "others have it".

Great words blazen you know maybe ics has some quiet interesting features but our developers make than our phone from crappy to gingerbread better than ics that is one the reasons I want to start developing because I feel that I got skills to make some good stuff for the phone ( like themes and guides only things that i have finished) and other reason is because here our developers are way better than samsungs horrible costumer service....anyway every sgs4g user most appreciete the developers work even if the projects are not finished like ics port and aosp port because that makes people more happy and they know that there works are awesome

I believe that most want it because it is the newest OS and most believe it will be an improvement, much like GB compared to Froyo... Which is understandable considering the developers here are going full bore in a attempt to port ICS.
Being one of those that was satisfied with froyo, I have to admit I am even more satisfied with GB... But as for your question, I personally hope that it is released for our phone because if it is, so to would the source be released (just imagine what the developers could accomplish with it).
Just my 2 cents in the well.

You do realize that's a post from someone in the forums right? No word from Samsung USA. You cannot depend on what a customer service rep says, they sit behind the computer all day and still do not know a thing about the products they are supposed to be supporting. They are just trying to shut us up about it already. If the OG galaxy s gets just a value pack, it'd be hard to imagine them bending backwards to give us full ICS

If I am not mistaken the T-Mobile version is the same as the Telus S2 in Canada. If it is I would not be in any hurry to upgrade to ICS. My own experience and experience of others as reported on the Howardforums has not been stellar. Problems with apps freezing and battery life going in the toilet are common. Looks great, just doesn't work very well. I would hold off until these issues are addressed. I usually always wait to do an update until I here some feedback but this time I jumped in and am now regretting it.
Just a word to the wise
