[q] miui 4.0.1 p999? - T-Mobile LG G2x

So what's the deal with this galnet ICS for G2x "Galnet ICS 2.11.26". Screenshots show android version 4.0.1. Is it legit? Not quite understanding why everyone's not all over this thing if it is, which leads me to ask this question to begin with since there's not very much info on it (that I could find).

well im running the stock galnetmiui, and it seems stable enough. i cant believe ICS has been available all this time. im gonna try to slip faux123's kernal in now.

If this is it how come CM and others aren't using it to get their cameras working?

galnet is just a framework merge to ICS it doesnt have the ICS APK's, yet that is. im guessing thats why cm team hasnt used the code, cm team is probably using the ics camera APK.
also faux123's ds kernal v 048 is working fine so far.

It doesn't have much of anything from ics except a couple of things it just just has 4.0.3 in the build prop, you can do that with 2.2 builds. I don't even think it has the basics from ics in it. It is not worth the flash IMO. It is a basic miui build with some tiny modifications that are not noticeable again IMO

Yup I agree with mt3g.

Is says that it is 4.0.1 but it is very stable. I have been running it for about a week with Morfics The Destroyer 1.6ghz kernel and it is awesome. Very stable and fast. I have not had any reboots or SOD. Wifi calling works perfect as well. You will not be disappointed if you flash this rom.

Ah so it doesn't really have any of the optimizations and improvements of ICS? Just the little bits of it here and there?

From what I gathered while on it that was when it first came out, it is a flash over zip you have to install latest miui and them the ics layover (kinda like a theme for 2.3.3) not really though lol. I didn't even notice anything different at all.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

So general consensus is no this is not 4.0.1, it's just MIUI with a BS version number.

Weather it is or isn't I don't know. But you can not go by a Screenshot of the Android Version. That can be changed in the build.prop.
View attachment 874281

Not ICS... simply has some pieces stolen...
By that logic, Tsugi has "Some ICS Code" in it... as in, I used some of the images out of ICS in the theme, as well as a little xml and the screen animations. Doesn't make it ICS.

Why are they banned?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say because they falsify information in their roms most likely. Callin this 4.0.1 is completely inaccurate. Just because it has a couple of "ICS features".

If I remember right it is just the fact the galnet asked if there versions would not be put on XDA

So in other words, the latest build the dev team has put out is just an amalgamation that's only partially ICS with the rest of it being part and parcel Gingerbread, huh?
Really looking forward to seeing hardware acceleration. I couldn't tell ya whether it'll really be the next thing since sliced bread.
Any word on whether this might allow us to run games more smoothly? I think I read somewhere that it's also a matter of developers writing code into their games that make better use of Nvidia's GPU? With the Tegra 2 being a CPU that's bound to age in 2012, I have to doubt that ICS will help us in games.

Probably too early to be asking this - especially considering we only recently got gingerbread - but what do you guys think are the chances of having ICS on the XT720?
Not at all, it req. 512 mb of ram minimum
yup out of question for our dated phone

Well our "What will your next phone be" thread got moved for some reason to the non-phone specific general discussions sections of XDA proper.
getting gingerbread (CM7) run stable on xt720 is the last we can do for our phone
but ICS look amazing, next summer when it gets more popular I'll consider choosing one to upgrade
Honestly, I'm getting very, very, very tired of Google's constant API and apps abandonment cycle. Even if you get an ICS device, Google is bound to abandon it within a year. I am this close to just abandoning Gmail.

It was still pretty smooth for being a sdk port. I'm sure you guys will see it before long. The only thing I'm afraid of is the RAM situation. I am a newbie to my G2x from Tmobile.
I do understand that LG has not released an update to upgrade to ice cream sandwich. Right?
So, how do I get Ice Cream Sandwich on my phone? I am computer savvy and can understand instructions if made easy to understand. I know its something about rooting my phone right?

Or is LG planning to upgrade G2x to Ice Cream Sandwich?

When you get there look for clockwork recovery, once you install that make a back up of your current rom and then you can install any rom of your choosing.
I never asked for help when I started so if I can do it you definitely can do it, pm or something if you got any other Q's.

The source drop has built in support for the 990 and 999 so once they get the compiles done its full HWA ICS so should solve all the issues in the hackfest roms given a week or two.
Wait until someone makes a port and proper fully working ROM for our phone, the hackfests are fun, but not for anyone who needs anything stable/daily.

{Poll included} Which FUll ICS based rom are YOU looking forward too

so as we all no Nexx is hard at work getting the 3.0 kernel ready and just about every dev is going to want to use it to fully harness ics on our DS so i wanted to know which ics rom everyone is looking to use as their main one and why, so i'll kick things off
right now i'm leaning towards Blindice as my main rom, i've tried the latest cm9 and a whole load of other ics roms and blindice seems the most stable for me so far, also got the best connectivity out of all the ones i've tried so far

Nice thread
I'm looking forward to Sense based ROMs in the long run, but I don't think they will be ready for a while, to the point where they are customizable with RCTweaks etc.
So I'm looking at CM9. I don't think there will be CM9 Stable so soon. Remember CM7.2 started in December 2010. They got a couple if RC out during January > April. But the final version came October. I'm guessing that officially we will get CM9 RC pretty soon. And the final version with all the tweaks/themes done will come by October like it did with CM7.
If you look at CM9 now, they have a lot of placeholders.

RC = Release candidate. It is a build that has been tested quite alot, and has potential to become the final build. This is one step ahead of the nightly builds. Then once they decide which is the stablest RC, it becomes the stable/final.
I certainly agree with you. When Reaper first came, I held off it, for some reason I do not know why, but I recently tried Reaper (in fact still on it currently) and its fantastic.
Yeah some sense apps are excellent and are the main reasons I use it, particularly the camera app. Its miles ahead of AOSP ones.

Simply because it allows touch-to-focus video, face detection, and instant snap mode.

Touch to focus works on the CM camera app, but it doesn't work while shooting video.

it's not stupid.. i would use blindice, but the overwhelming support for a sense based one would make me try that and likely stick with it.. once the kernel is released most of the roms will all get to a point where every feature works.. on all of them.. therefore it will be the extra merits of the roms for example speed, performance, addons, customisability etc, this thread is too see which one people are looking forward to, thats why i said stable
Continuing on the discussion reg camera, I have observed tha the STOCK Sense camera gives better pictures with lesser noise nad smaller file sizes...
I'd like to see a full Sense 4 port, only reason I'm looking forward to Kernel 3.0. That and 60 FPS graphics across ICS

MIUI Galnet, anyone using this?

I stumbled across this on rootzwiki, I guess it is an ICS version of MIUI. Either way, I was curious why there are no Galnet ROMs here on XDA. It runs android 2.3.9, and can use the MIUI modified Morfic ELP and T15 kernels.
Anyone besides me giving this a shot?
Its been out for a while and its half ass ics meaning it isn't ics just has framework from within it. If you search the right stuff you'll find a thread about it... and galnet doesn't allow there links on xda for some reason.

Yea I don't care if it's fully ICS or not. It runs well on my phone with the T15 kernel and I did the GUI over most GB and I'm starting to like this more than ICS. MIUI has a LOT of customization and themes which is awesome since I'm always changing ROMs.
I was looking around and I saw some stuff about Galnet being banned from XDA for whatever reason. Oh well, rootzwiki is where it's at for this ROM, the latest build was on 4/17 if anyone is interested.
Yeah I've run the galnet MIUI with the trin 1.56 kernel. Runs good enough and I've always been a supporter of MIUI, and generally fall back to it even on my g2x. Usually I run singh-ui from here on xda. I've heard that MIUI China at least is dropping P990 GB so our ports are likely done after the 4-17 and 4-20 ports. MIUI Scotland or galnet may keep going though.

JB can take all the time in the world. I'm still soaking in ICS. I'm totally satisfied with what our devs have done, and it wouldn't bother me a bit if they didn't mess with JB. There's still a lot of potential to be found with our ICS right now anyways. Just let it go, and if one of them want to do it, they will. Or, you can slide one of them a chunk of cash and tell them what you want, lol.
It doesn't hurt to discuss it. Once people become annoying with requests for JB, then it's a different story.

I was under the impression that Project Butter indicated the emphasis on performance in JB. So could it be that if (or hopefully when) it gets ported over, it could actually end up being smoother than ICS?

Smoother than ICS. Just got done playing with a test build of CM10 on my other phone(I727). Zero lag and I mean zero. Whether will be able to port it remains to be seen and the ICS ROMS we've gotten over the past month are huge. Still never hurts to discuss it.
@hechoen But then again, the SGS 2 has a dual-core processor. Our hardware may be too outdated.
Just like we were too outdated for ics? Lol

Yea but it runs fine on the nexus s which has nearly 100% of the same hardware. Any device that can run ics can also run jb. It matters more about optimization than hardware specs
Man, that's so awesome to hear.

If we are capable of running ics then we can definitely run jb
Regarding OP
It'll be a little bit.
We're still trying to get ICS under control. We're using a GB kernel (2.6.35.7) modified to work with ICS (ics was designed for 3.0.8). We still have issues with sleep and a number of other issues we have noted on our github.
Granted, we will release a source built Jellybean build at some point and it will be based off of what the Galaxy S & variants device maintainers do, but we are still playing catch up to them on Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich.
I hate giving ETAs, but we'll have something within the next month and a half.
