More Internal Memory??? ? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hi guys i was wondering if anyone knows a way for.us to get more internal memory i know theres the fota file thing. But is it posible in any way that we can buy or change the internal memory of this phone and put another one bigger?

Nope.avi
Internal memory is what it is.

Ok, it sucks having this phone with such small memory. I had a vibrant before and when you are used to have phone with big internal memory like i did it sucks big time. I hate every time that im dowloading an app abd give me the error of not having memory available
rught now im just with the default apps and the xda app, ninja jump and another game for my kids. Nothing more :/

Before wiping my phone last week i had 90+ market apps installed. I never got any errors regarding internal storage space. I remember using the fota fix app though.

Something doesn't sound right. I've got over 60 apps installed from the market with no memory issues. Check your internal memory to see if its full.

You'll have to root and apply the fota fix by Matt Henry http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13504566. Do this and you'll have all the space you need

Also you can use an app like app2sd or one like it so put apps onto the so card. I use this for games because they take up the most storage space. I use link2sd and use ext4.

Are you running a GB Rom? I had issues with link2sd and ext4 with apps disappearing back when the first GB leaks came out and we had all the busybox ext4 conversion problems. Since then I have kept away from it, but would love to use it again if it is running smoothly with the newer leaks / roms.

Have u tried App2SD app?... it will automatically change the location for the new installed apps to the SD card instead of the internal memory.
Ofc some apps just need to stay in the internal memory but, just to mention, i have 114 apps installed, 91 in the SD the rest in the internal memory (including the stock apps)

I am on octane with link2sd with no problems, there is a setting that you turn off so all of your apps don't go to sd. This way you can choose

[Q] Is there any reason why everytime I reboot I lose half my apps?

It seems whenever I reboot...I notice a bunch of apps gone..I reinstall and then when I reboot again...they either stay or get deleted again.
EDIT: my infuse did this when it was not rooted also. I just now rooted it and had to reinstall a bunch of apps...I did that and rebooted and voila. They are gone again.

Ok go into settings-applications-all-move apps that are diisapering to the phone close reboot see if that works?
they come back after about 5 minuets or so. its because they are stored on the sd card.

Move all the apps off the SD Card, then remove the SD Card to prevent future apps from being installed to it.

I have a 32GB SD card which I would like to keep in the phone... :-/ But the apps themselves are on the internal SD I believe. it's odd...my friend doesn't have any of these issues...we both upgraded same day with the infuse. It could be something simple I am just a android noob and plan on living on these forums reading as much as I can.
the disappearing wallpaper is due to the wallpaper being on the sdcard and not phone storage (same device in a physical sense, different partition/device to the os) the ui loads before the sdcard mounts. the media scanner seems to run before the apps are loaded. so it needs to load the default wallpapper to unlock the phone.
the other disappearing apps may be due to the same thing but they should show before you have an opportunity to reinstall them, unless they are somehow on the external sd card and that sd card happens to be a class 2 or something slow like that.
i hate apps to sd for anything other than older phones that have under 512mb of phone storage. it just causes confusion, i dont really know why some apps like to install to the sd card on this phone others dont and it never asks you, this never happened on my captivate.

Hmm...makes sense...I do have a 32gb sd class 2 sandisk card but i've heard mixed things on whether the different classes matter on the Infuse. But yes the apps issue is strange...but they are on the internal SD. Some are on the phone. So moving them all to the phone should fix the disappearing issue?
I just worry about running out of space. phone memory is only 2gb.

2GB is a pretty huge amount of space for apps so I wouldn't worry about that. Some of the larger games that require downloading extra cache files, like Order & Chaos, save that to a special cache folder that AFAIK doesn't count towards the 2GB internal memory limit (please correct me if I'm wrong).
Does anyone know of a way to disable apps saving to the SD card by default? In other words, how can we ensure that we always save apps to the phone? Saving to SD actually causes one of my favorite apps, SoundHound, to not work correctly as the widget isn't available, even after I move it to the phone memory.

It's odd...I have moved all the apps I could to my phone memory and since then I have had no problems after reboots except the break.com and netflix app. Not really a big deal it only takes a few seconds to reinstall those. I have waited 5-10 min after bootup for those to come back but they do not. Just a minor annoyance though.
i can imagine big video apps caching to the sdcard.
Actually for whatever reason I was able to move the break app to my phone this time. Only took 20 reinstalls lol

Internal storage issues

'ello, gents. I just got my first Android phone and I seem to not be able to access 4GB of the internal memory. Under application storage, it has my available space as 4GB+, but won't let me install applications to it. I downloaded the disk usage app and it shows only 561MB total instead of approx 4561MB that should be there. I now have 62MB of internal space left and as I was typing this I got yet another warning that I am out of space. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I think when I turned on my phone i had roughly 4.5 GB available for usage. I so far have only used up aroun 500 mb. Everything else goes on my 16gb SD card. What all do you have installed on your internal to eat that much space up?
You could always try to wipe the device clean and start brand new.
Well, I have a few apps installed, but my point is that the space isn't being used--it won't let me use it. The phone thinks that there is only 550MB total internal space, and, for some reason, ignores the other 4GB (see the screenshot I posted). I have been throwing everything on the sd card and even ordered a big sd card for this purpose, but I still want to fix this issue. When I try to click on application space under application storage to get some options our something, nothing happens. It looks like I might need to just reinstall from scratch to see if that fixes it. I mostly wanted to see if others were having this issue our if it was a known bug. Thanks again for any insights.

That 4gb of space is specifically for your apps, if ur phone isnt recognizing or accessing it then u need to return it cause its faulty.

same issue here... 500MB out of 4GB used internal. All the rest of my apps are going on the SD card.
I'm going to see if I can make it over to the at&t store and see what they have to say about it, but if anyone figures out what's going on, let me know. I plan on flashing MIUI as soon as its out, so I don't know if that will resolve the issue, but its probably better to not wait and see.

I appologize in advance if this is a bit rambling.
I spent some time troubleshooting the issue and it does seem like the Atrix 2 has some difficulty using internal app storage.
Using the default App storage viewer (settings > Applications > storage use) it shows the correct size of 4gig, but using DiskUsage I was only seeing a size of 561MB.
I started to test this by installing apps till i hit the 561MB limit and sure enough at ~560 it started complaining that there was no more room available for some apps and for others it started to install them on the SD card.
So i decided to try and force an app to internal storage. DiskUsage showed 9MB free and I had a 25MB app installed on the SD card. Using the default app manager I moved the app back to the phone and it installed, thus taking up all the free space shown by DiskUsage, but at the same time increasing the size of the disk to accomidate for the overage. All subsequent app installs have gone to the internal storage, increasing the disk size in DiskUsage.
More to come..
How did u move or force install on internal storage?

the legume - did you make it to AT&T and did they have anything to say?
I haven't yet, but using azangerle's idea, I seem to have resolved the issue. It looks like you need to force the phone past the approx 500MB barrier by moving an app to the sd card, filing up the 500MB internal storage and then once the phone says that its out of internal storage, move the app from the sd card back into internal. It will allow it to be copied, and you should be able to use the rest of the 4GB of storage afterwards (I'm almost to 2GB used with apps and haven't had any problems).
I'm still going to ask at&t about it when I can make it over there, but its not as high a priority new that we've found a workaround.

Ah OK. Thnx. I see a few tabs there... downloaded, all, on SD card... what does the 'on SD card' mean? I definitely have not moved any to SD and if I go on an application I am still getting the option to move to SD :/
They are only on the SD card if they have the green checkmark, even if they are on the SD card tab. Its very confusing.

I was questioning why it showed like that on my phone. I have found some good info though
If you go into manage apps and click on the "on sdcard tab" unless there is a green checkmark next to the app it is not actually on your sdcard. Weird, but that's how it is.
I can live with that. Just wondering what on SD card means...

Is it default place for installation of the new applications?

Insufficiant storage space

Today I got a notification from the market telling me insufficient storage space installing an update to adobe air.
I opened lucky patcher and tried removing fixes and backups. This did not correct the problem as it has in the past.
What else can I do? Open up the phone and install bigger memory chips? Lol

You could move some apps to your sdcard or uninstall unused ones. Your internal storage (1gb) is probably a bit full.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda app-developers app
You can check how much more internal memory you actually have by going to settings>apps>manage apps. If you go to the "on sd card" tab, it lists all apps that can be installed to SD. Ones with a checkmark next to them denote that they're already on the SD. To move one, tap on it and press "move to USB storage". If the button says "move to phone" it's installed to SD. Be wary about phone crashes, even in the best case scenario Titanium will attempt to install them to the internal memory, making it full once more. Worst case scenario, you lose everything due to weird symlinks (pretty sure that's what it is) between internal and SD storage. Both have happened to me.

I've had this happen a lot. Someone suggested in the tweaked thread I odin back to stock and start over. It seemed to had been attributed to ext4 to rfs conversion which i've never done. It's my only phone and I'm very busy so I haven't got around to it. Anytime I get to around 100 ~ 120 mbs left it gives me this notification, won't let me install even the smallest of apps, and gmail stops syncing. My phone seems to imply I have 1.2 gb of storage so maybe that's the problem?
All I've ever done is been on tweaked 3.1, then 3.2 ..recently flashed 1214 kernel. Complete wipes both times, no dirty flashes
I hate to revive an older thread but i cant get past the insufficent storage problem. I moved apps to usb storage freeing up over 500mb. When that failed, i tried lucky patcher. Any other suggestions?
it seems the only way to update some apps is to delete and reinstall... Some i just dont update anymore.

[Q] Can't install/update using Google Play due to wrong insufficient storage

Hi!
This is related to a Galaxy Ace 2 phone, but I posted by mistake on the general forum.
It seems I can't install/update large-ish apps using Google Play and I get an error related to insufficient storage.
The problem is that I have around 170MB available internally, plus 500MB on each SD card (internal and external) and the error shows up when trying to update Swype, Google+, Google Search, etc. (all around 15-20MB).
If I uninstall some apps/games (e.g. Angry Birds, Cut the Rope) the free space goes up a bit (not much, as I keep these on the SD card) and now I'm again able to update those apps initially mentioned.
It seems just like my Ace 2 is trying to keep around 150-170MB as some sort of reserved space.
Is this normal? Should I worry that I may have a faulty phone/NAND?
I'm using the MF1 BTU ROM, stock, but I'm coming from the MB4 version in order to get the full 624MB RAM.
Thanks!
Reserved space could be system files. Overwriting those could potentially brick your system.

Yes, pretty sure. I checked it via the Storage menu in System Settings and also via Titanium Backup.
Also, I'm not using any kind of script or app like Link2SD which mounts an EXT2/3/4 partition as /data. I think this excludes the possibility that free space is being incorrectly reported (but I'm not really sure).

Hi,
This is a very commun issue with Android, it seems that the algorithm calculating free memory isn't that efficient. The best solution is to keep more than 250MB on internal memory. And if it happens, to remove one or two apps

That would indeed minimize the impact of the problem. However, not all apps support being moved to the external sdcard and some become a bit limited. In addition to that, even apps moved to the sdcard continue to use the dalvik cache on internal storage.

Need help fixing /datadata in 4.4.3

Hey guys and gals!
Is there any quick fix to increase the size of /datadata, or could it be symlinked to a partition on the SD card?
Here's my issue thus far:
Anytime I've ever installed/flashed 4.2 and up on the Infuse, I get continuous force closes after about 24 hours. I've traced it to the fact that /datadata fills way too fast, and I don't know of any "quick fix" other than formatting the partition in CWM and starting over again.
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated!

My issue here is that I want to utilize as much internal storage as possible before attempting to use SD card space.
I'm running the latest nightly of Carbon 4.4.3, have only about 100 apps total, including the Gapps package (BaNkS full, about 90mb), and I've already uninstalled the "data hog" apps like G+ and Bitstrips.
This has been going on for a long time and has been the #1 reason I've stayed with 4.2 or earlier ROMs.
If I could get help figuring out how to fix this hurdle, it would make KK a lot more usable to me.
Sent from my forehead using Jedi mind tricks...
I have same issue right off the bat once I leave GB stock for one of the game I was playing.. such a data hog (250-300MB). I end up installing new rom to test then revert back to GB stock to play the game. I don't want to bother with symlink to external sdcard since mine is a class 2. Using it to backup stuff only. Would love to see this issue fixed or easier remedy to do it yourself. I tried JoyOS rom which got nice feature for symlink to sdcard int/ext built in which solved the issue. The rom got some other issues for me to use it and not being work on anymore. Definitely would love to see dev for other rom to add symlink feature.
I think I've found something that works....maybe.
App is on play store and is called "Cache Apps to SD".
So far it seems to be doing what I need it to by moving data from /datadata to my external 4GB SD card.
Why external? Idk... can't be very secure in the case of someone stealing your phone and getting private data from the external SD... but it seems to be doing something good.

I would think you could use a half gigabyte card if you wanted to, it's more than the 350mb allocated.
And so far so good, no decrease in speed or smoothness that I can detect yet, and it's slowly moving all the stuff from /datadata to a folder on the SD.

First pic shows my setting. I have it set up to use /storage/sdcard1, which is a class 4 4gb card... Nothing fancy and it works really well so far.
Second screen shows any extra settings, which all I have is to hide the notification when it's done starting up.
Fairly simple to use.
You'll notice that it will make a folder on the SD for itself and start putting data into it.

Class 10 is perfectly fine. It won't use the entire 32gb, of course...
I'm just using the class 4 card and I notice no loss in performance.

So, after a few days of use I realized it's not working as well as I'd hoped.
I got ballsy and decided to reinstall G+.
Big mistake!
I saw /datadata dwindle to a heart breaking 11kb right after install.
Then a SuperSU update took SU away from the app...
Not pleased at this point, but I can't blame the developers.

I'm thinking of trying something different:
Symlink /data/data to /data and make it use that partition, then maybe give the 350mb back to /system, allowing more breathing room for Android.
What say you?

I think the stuff in /data/data used to be in same place as /data itself since I don't see it in GB stock version. The apps and games I installed wouldn't take over 900MB. 300MB would be a reasonable size for them all and the rest has to be data the app and game generate. This would explained why my memory hog game was able to install w/o out issue but has trouble in new rom when those data got split to it own folder partition.
OK, fresh install of Carbon 6/22...
Typed "df" in terminal and took a screenshot.
Haven't started any real apps yet, but I'll post a screenshot when I do.

There's this:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/39718-workaround-for-small-datadata-partition/
This brings the contents of /data/data back into the fold (not it's own partition). I guess it was split originally (not sure when) to avoid lag, but it doesn't really make sense for this phone because it's all on the same internal SD card.
EDIT: There is also the Ext4All app that (supposedly) does this for you:

Thanks for the links. Will be checking it out since I hate having to revert back to GB to play the 1 game I liked.
