Question about HP Keyboard (sizes and Android) - TouchPad Accessories

Hey there.
I'm looking for HP Touchpad Wireless Keyboard and I've been looking everywhere on the internet to check its dimensions (in size).
Can someone of you (who already bought it) check what are the width and length? I really want to know how pocketable it is. I have a case and I want to use it to put the keyboard there too. So I'm wondering how much is big HP Keyboard (compared to an Apple keyboard for example)
And I have one more question. Do you have any idea if HP Keyboard will be usable with Touchpad running Android?

I have one it works great with cm7. Here is a couple pics of size. It's 11 inch long and almost 5 and a half from top to bottom.

Does the escape keys and arrow keys function properly (portrait or landscape?) Out of the box, or do you still have to try to re-map it?

Arrows keys work out of the box. Haven't tried the esc button tonight but will and write back.

Hey John. How doid you go about getting it to work? I can''t get it working for the life of me. Just will not pair. It's a password issue.

also if you're looking for a portable keyboard, check out the kaiser baas mini bluetooth keyboard.
i bought one just recently and it works well with the TP and is only 20cm X 10cm (about 8" X 4").

When it says hit 0000 or 1234 to pair hit 0000 then ok on the tp. Immediately hit 0000 on the keyboard then return it should pair up. That is how I got mine to pair. If you need more help there is a post in tp general that is a little more detailed. Hope it works for you.

Worked like a charm! I had read that somewhere else bit missed the part about hitting enter on the keyboard. Such a silly mistake!
Thank you!

I'm getting my HP Bluetooth keyboard tomorrow. I am so glad you guys mentioned that passkey info. I am also running the CM7 version 2 alpha. I was really worried about the keyboard working with the android side of the tablet. Thank you for the info!

If you plan on running a Linux OS on it, I suggest you get a BT KB made for PCs. I have an HP BT keyboard and it takes a slight learning curve to master the keys which are missing from the HP keyboard.

Yeah part of me wishes I had sprung for a more PC like keyboard so I could use it with my my desktop.
For the size though, I don't know what else is comparable other than an apple keyboad. Maybe that's what I should have gotten.

I've got the Logitech BT Keyboard for Android that works fine with WebOs - 11.4" x 5.1" . One of the guys from the Cyanogen team has a youtube video showing how you can use a wired USB keyboard with the TP - uses a Y cable, but I haven't tried just using an adapter (USB to Micro).

Touch Pro AZERTY (french) ... Misplaced "M" key?

All right, so I got my Touch Pro this morning, I think it might be one of the very first units with an AZERTY keyboard
So far I'm very pleased with it, it's so much faster than my previous LG KS20, it's mind blowing...
One thing that bothers me however: the full keyboard is great, but the letter M is not at the right place!
I don't know why HTC did it that way, maybe it was to save some space... it kind of fazed me at first, I couldn't type any Ms, and then I looked at the keys, and I saw, and behold, a misplaced M!
Here are some pictures of my Logitech keyboard and the Touch Pro keyboard.

lol got a little chuckle out of that one, wondering the person who did the layout might have forgotten if they were doing a QWERTY or AZERTY setup on the last key. On the standard US keyboard N and M are right next to each other.
Also take a look at the touch pro keyboard and QWERTY keyboard setup they are pretty similar with the letter except for the first to columns on the right.
congrats on the touch pro, design looks nice, hope ATT doesn't go screwing around with it.

That's what I thought too. I think they should have gotten rid of the right shift key and the shift lock key (hitting twice the shift key does the same!). That way they could have made the Enter key larger and, I don't know, maybe frigging PUT THE "M" AT THE RIGHT PLACE???
Come on, HTC, don't make me mad like this?
Golumpio,
I think they didi it that way because there is no room for an m as in french keyboard.
Indeed in a real AZERTY the M is next to the L. In the HTC you don't have the room for it because there is the enter key.
The only way would have been to get rid of the cap key or make the enter key shorter (which isn't much an option I think).

The only thing I regret from the keyboard of my HTC (UK Vs) is the lack of antislash \ (which is quite useful for everything which is network related) and I've noticed that also in the french keyboard the antislash ain't there neither).

That doesn't bother me so much, the antislash can be accessed quickly with the Symbols key, it takes as much time as using the "FN" key.

You're damn right about that, and we're proud of it too!
You know, on the TyTN II, the M key was already next to the N, and you know what, I didn't notice until you talked about !
heh, i am not from France, but i have a lot of stuff from France.
And guys that's first device i saw from France that have M next to N, which in my case would make my life a bit easier.
I have notebook with AZERTY keyboard, and it was damn hard thing to get used on new place of A and M, but everything is ok now, except when i use some other PC where keyboard is QWERTY
Btw there are remap programs for PC so you can adjust your keyboard, dont know if there is one for PPC, maybe that can help you guys

[Q] has anyone linked a keyboard via usb or bluetooth yet??

im determined to get down to some fallout 1 and 2 on the go on my dhd and iv had a look into the bluetooth keyboard routem just seems a bit much to spend 30 odd gbp on a keyboard online to discover it wont work on my DHD.
Pls someone put me out of my misery and direct me to a bluetooth (or micro usb) keyboard and mouse set up that will work on the DHD
i will be most grateful

How are you playing Fallout 1 and 2!?!?
You will need scripts to get HiD working. N900 can use keyboard and mouse via BT (and USB now) but you need to get scripts, and I'm guessing this would be the same.
Look and see if anyone has it running on Desire or Z. Should be easy to bring them over.

This is my point I'M NOT PLAYING IT YET but this is down to the fact I have no keyboard or mouse yet. And as for how I would run the Games I wud use a dos box style emulator then play the Games. Th insides of the dhd specs show up as good as my mums desktop which I play fallout on so I imagine if u can get doom ported to Android fallout will be no buggy either. Can u imagine the joy of long train journeys with fallout to keep u occupied. As for the second paragraph of ur post I have no idea about any of that stuff. I have seen a MINI bt keyboard saying it is desire Hd compatible but until its confirmed I ain't parting with my cash.

Cyanogen includes a program called Bluekeyboard JP
I have used my logitech bluetooth keyboard with mouse trackpad designed for the PS3 with it before.
Detects it as an HID device and gives a keyboard option in input settings. Works farely well.
I have tried all the other bluetooth keyboard apps in the market and none of them enabled me to use it until I used cyanogen.

Thanks matey that's interesting to know I checked the compatability log and saw no android support although there was threads on android driver support. Using Freedom Pro Bluetooth keyboard with DHD
To original poster for this thread,

Thanks Midgeslayer, that looks very cool. Just friggen expensive in South Africa. Just under $200
The safest option would be I'd say using a BT Keyboard like the Freedom Pro or maybe trying out Bluetooth JP or other software on another BT Keyboard.
The cheapest way if you don't own a bluetooth keyboard would be to use a USB Keyboard and create an adaptor or USB Dongle as follows. Again I'm still too nervous about this. If someone with a better understanding of electronics and the Desire HD could explain to me if solderding up this USB Dongle which shorts a pin on the USB connector is safe then I'll do it... The parts can be bought from dealextreme.com or ebay for next to nothing. Mini USB Keybaords are also very cheap.
Here's the link:
http://gigaom.com/mobile/how-to-add-a-usb-keyboard-to-an-android-phone/
Which do you think would be better for saving battery, a USB keyboard or a Bluetooth keyboard? I am wondering if any real difference as I am planning on doing this for full days of lectures and typing notes.
Possible Blueinput solution
I can't say about the DHD, but you might like to check at the teksoftco forum
I am running their Blueinput driver with an Apple Wifi Keyboard on a Nexus One v 2.2.1 OK. Only snag for me is that the keyboard has a Norwegian layout and Blueinput treats it as a US one..
Mvh
According to their website Orange UK are about to offer the freedom universal bluetooth keyboard for a measly £7. Does anyone know if this version of the keyboard is compatible with the DHD in the same way as the Freedom Pro?

Somewhat unique input request

How difficult would it be to make a driver for an input device? I know that in the android sdk there's the ddms utility that I use for screen shots, but it also logs things on the device. Or what about the recently made public google app creator?
My dad is a professional piano player and uses a laptop on the music stand for his massive collection of sheet music. The music is just se up like a locally stored website. He has a foot assembly with 2 pedals to go forward and back through the pages. It plugs in with usb.
How dificult would that be to work with the usb port on a G tablet? I'm borrowing a friends for the night playing with it but we are looking to get one but this is a big factor.

It might just work as we already have usb keyboard support so you may need only to edit the keymap to have the key/button sent from the pedal to do what what you want just like mapping a key on the keyboard to a function...

Windows auto loads drivers for it though it gets lost in a mess of Human Interface Devices in the device manager so I'm not 100% sure which it is
I tried to Debug capture if it is getting a signal from anything from it but not seeing it.
This is what we're trying to work with with it:
You can see how I just did that in the browser,
That is a screen of the Lyrics, and here is a sheet music
and this is in the gallery.
However, he has an INSANELY massive collection, and his HTML pages link to each other so it is a large directory, and then pull up the sheet music via a link on the lyrics page. What I am imagining is that you'd click the link on lyrics page and it would ask "do you want to use gallery or other program" dialog.
What would be nice is mapping the foot pedal to that, or at least using finger swipe but I'm not sure how to in the browser.
You'll probably need to write a quick app for this. Something that will read the list of files, htm/png's whatever, provide a list, let the user pick a song and then display it, I'll bet that thing acts like a keyboard so all you'd need to do is listen for keyboard events, no driver required, and act accordingly, aka displaying the next sheet, etc.
What do ya use to listen for keyboard inputs? is that in DDMS? I'm not seeing any changes in the running log at the bottom of the app.
We both agree this is ALMOST perfect for him, but he may need bigger. The tab itself works great but when the sheet music is on it it's a tiny bit hard to read at the distance he needs.
He swears that Asus and Viewsonic are both having a 12" tab coming out but I can't find much info on that. What I did find has an i5 processor so that's a bit much. Whats the biggest android tab?

[Q] Sensation and Bluetooth keyboard?

Anyone who has one, have you tried a BT keyboard out yet? I have a DHD which doesn't support one but was hoping the Sensation, with BT3, would.
Any information appreciated.
Dave
Hmmm. I know there aren't too many Sensations in the wild yet but I thought that someone might have tried a BT keyboard by now.... Is there any way to know if the BT 'HID' profile is on the phone? I believe that's the profile needed for a keyboard.
Any comments on this driver ... https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mymobilegear ... ? Seems to have mixed reviews in the market.
Also, what's the general consensus on BT with the Sensation for headsets and music streaming to, say, a car head unit? Any problems seen as yet? I ask as none of the reviews I've seen mention BT except to say 'it's supported'.
Thanks
Dave
Can't comment on Bluetooth keyboards, but i have used it in my car paired with my Sony car stereo and it works fine. Think that is using the Bluetooth headphone profile.

Thanks for that. Been doing some more digging to try to find out about keyboards. Seems my current phone "should" support a keyboard like the Freedom Pro which supports the SPP profile (also used for keyboards, as is the HID profile). See ... http://www.apt8h.com/Computer/Elect...st-foldable-bluetooth-keyboards-reviewed.html ... for a review and more details.
Then I had one of those doh!!! moments and checked HTCs website for the Sensation at ... http://www.htc.com/www/product/sensation/specification.html ... and down under Bluetooth we find ...
"... Bluetooth® 3.0
A2DP for wireless stereo headsets
FTP and OPP (object push) for file transfer
PBAP for phonebook access from the car kit
Other supported profiles: AVRCP, GAP, GOEP, HFP, HID, HSP, MAP, SPP, SDAP ..."
Seems I answered my own question However, the proof of the pudding and all that .... it'd still be interesting to find someone who'd had one working ...

That'd be great. Just to clarify though, I don't think it's the BT 3 that's the issue as prior BT levels had the HID profile with other phones. I think BT 3 itself is more about power savings. Why HTC decided to add the HID profile to this release, arther than earlier, is anyones guess. Be interesting to know that as well though .....

So, final verdict? Which keyboard should one get if they want a mini keyboard that can fit in ones pockets?

My Rii mini bluetooth keyboard works flawlessly with my Sensation. You don't need to install anything just search for devices and connect
bluezimie didn't work. Using keypro and so far so good.
i-Tech VKB and keypro
Update:
Been using the i-tech vkb for a day and so far ok for what it is. This virtual keyboard is what I remember it is to be since I used it with my old MW600 by Sony Ericsson running Symbian OS.
The app works great with this kb. Of course there will be miskeys due to the spacing of the kb and where your finger is pressed, but I get that anyway using the onscreen kb lol....
Anyway here are some pics I snapped. I know it's pretty bright in here. It's 105 here today! There's bound to be "SOME" sun lol

[Q] Bluetooth case for iPad

From Thinkgeek here. Says it fits the OG iPad and with our TP's being roughly the same size do you think this would work? The cutouts seem rather generic on the case so I don't see controls being an issue. Only problem I do see is that the camera would be blocked, but it wouldn't matter to myself.

Thank you for someone actually replying.
You actually sent me off on a search for a keyboard/case myself but I managed to convince myself I really don't need it.
My boss has this for his iPad 2, and it even has the notch for the iPad 2 front camera. This morning I slipped my HP TouchPad in it, and it fit like a glove. Every button on the TouchPad was accessible: Power, Volume, headphone, bottom speakers, front camera, home button, and the unused card slot. I like it alot, but be sure to get the one for the iPad 2 since it has a hole/notch for the front camera. I like this, but it's too expensive. I'm looking for something cheaper.
This case (or one very similar) is being sold by Maplins in the UK.
I bought one and it fits and BT keyboard working fine.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/ipad-universal-black-leather-case-with-bluetooth-keyboard-509917
BTW The one I got has the cutout for the camera.
Just so guys know, this is on sale at thinkgeek.com for $29.99 for their Christmas special.
I just purchased this case and it will not pair with my Touchpad. It says "Unable to connect to keyboard (HID) profile" after entering the pairing code. I have tried resetting - the the keyboard connects to my iPhone without a problem. Any advice?

Do tell. I had it paired. Then I had it paired in android (xron's version of CM7) - and when I came back to WebOS, it pairs, but then gives the same error (unable to connect to keyboard (HID) profile).
I tried deleting the pairing and re-pairing from scratch - but it continues to give the same error.
What did you 'figure out'?!

Anyone? I'm still having issues as well
UPDATE: I finally got it working by having it start the pairing process, then holding the "Connect" button on the keyboard while it was trying to pair. After doing this a few times, it finally connected. However, it seems that it constantly disconnects. Pressing keys on the keyboard reconnects it, but there is a lag. This is very frustrating - any advice?
I just got this in the mail today but can't find the pairing code. Can anybody point me to what the code is or where it is hidden?

What you'll want to do is enter ANY code on the Touchpad. After you press the button to confirm the code, immediately type the same code on the bluetooth keyboard and press enter
I've pretty much given up on it - constantly disconnects. Big pain in the arse
That did it, thank you.
Oddly the device shows as disconnected in Android but Bluetooth Keyboard has it connected and working for the moment. I will play around with. It and see what happens.
Thanks again
