So check this out. I got a replacement phone from verizon about 2 weeks ago. After the first few days i noticed a slight discoloration in the top left side of the screen. You could only see if on a white screen, other than that it was pretty inconspicuous. However I was dissatisfied that my new replacement had this defect so I called and they promptly sent a new one with standard 5 day shipping!
So, as the week went on this weird spot that I can only compare to a grease stain on a piece of clothing, started to grow... every day it was a little bigger. It grew at a rate that was barley noticeable. I had to see what icon it was touching, and then compare that to its position the next day.
by last night (about a week later) it had grown to affect half of the screen. i assumed that it would eventually take over the enter screen and I would be left with a slightly shaded screen coloring.
when i woke up this morning, this is what it looked like

Its pretty much totally unusable. you can see from the picture that somehow the puzzle piece pattern burned into the screen (not sure how as that screen is never on for more than a few seconds, especially since it wasn't burned in last night and my phone sits on my nightstand and was not on).
Its like the screen 'ink' or whatever just totally failed.
anyway, i have the replacement already, but I wanted to share this weird story
the replacement phone is already listed on ebay and I will be upgrading to the HTC Rezound as soon as it comes out.
Definitely a faulty panel there.
Very strange to see it go that way, though. Pretty interesting picture.
BTW: These screens are not LCD, there's nothing like "Screen ink" in them. Each pixel is an array of 3 tiny LED lights (one Red, one Green, one Blue).

thats what I thought too. So what is causing it to "bleed" like that? by the way.. its only been a about 2 hours since i took that picture, and its almost entirely "blue". my guess is that in a few hours it will be completely failed
Probably just a bad run on the screen.
I'd be interested to see if there are more of them out there, since the panels are manufactured in large batches, so one defect should have several similar screens like it out there.
Could also be a fault somewhere else in the device, like maybe the display controller, and it's maybe overvolting the red and green LEDs, causing them to burn out much faster. (pure conjecture on my part)
I did just install ep3Ha on that the day I got it. wonder if its possible something went bad in the flash and toasted the screen, or is that even possible

doubt it, that looks like massive hardware fail
yeah, I don't think there's anything you could do software-wise that would do anything like that.
Is that a pressure crack? That's what it looks like.

no, this happened very very slowly. it looks like an LCD screen when you sit on it or step on it.. but no. since its not lcd it cant do that.
it took it about 7 days to get to this point.
I was talking to a colleague of mine who is an EE. He thinks it was a failure in the glue that holds the layers of the panel together. because of how it started, small and in 1 corner, it is similar de-lamination that can can happen in things like plywood. these screens are layered pieces of plastics and material that allows it to work as a screen. once it started to 'peel' apart, it was just a matter of time.
the screen slowly started to come apart until it reached a critical point. the result would be the same if you had the screen out of the phone and started to separate its layers.
seems to make sense to me, hes the EE, im just a physics major.. what do i know
I can hear the screen saying IIIIIMMMM MEEEEELLLLLTTTTTIIIINNNNNGGGGG

Alright, so I just got a second replacement One X from AT&T and I noticed something odd about it.
When I tilt the screen, I get this weird green-ish/rainbow-ish distortion on the screen and it affects the viewing angles when compared to my original One X. My original One X does not have this green/rainbow tint when I tilt the phone and stays consistent in color. It's also much brighter.
Is this normal? Should I ask for another replacement?
My first replacement would not turn on after I shut it off and was sent another One X replacement the next day. Right now, I'm in possession of all three One Xs, my original with the warm tint, the replacement One X that will not turn on, and the second replacement One X with distortion.

That isn't normal. The phone has great viewing angles and should not have any color or image distortion. Get another replacement.

That's what I was curious about!
I keep comparing it to my original One X. The second replacement has a green-ish tint/rainbow-like pattern while looking at it from an angle. If I move my head, the pattern moves around. In contrast to my original One X, which is a solid display at almost infinite angles.
I think AT&T might get angry at me for wanting too many replacements, I just got my first replacement two days ago and had to order a new one since it just shut off and would not turn on again.

If they get angry at you, get angry right back. You are paying good money and deserve a product that is free from defects.
I'd exchange it again too. I don't know how often you get a new phone, but if you have to stare at the screen every time you use the phone, it'd better be flawless. Just my 2¢

This is the second replacement. First replacement would not turn on, second replacement has a green/rainbow tint. All in one week.
I have half a mind of sending both replacements back and keeping my original One X and just sending it in to HTC to get it fixed.

I have this problem,I have sent my phone to HTC 5 times now and the problem is still here

Sounds like a stuck pixel. If it was dead it would be black.
There are various apps that are designed to attempt to fix the problem, by flashing the screen to create different levels of pixel activity. But I'm not sure if they will actually do anything.

I have a problem like this as well. It's not a stuck pixel, it looks more like a "smear" on the screen whose pixels won't get as dark as they are supposed to. The problem is most apparent on dark gray backgrounds. You know, the kind that's all over Holo. :/
Never tried to contact HTC about it since I figured it was my fault, but if other people here have exactly the same problem then it may be a more widespread problem.

It's still very hard too see it properly. Has it always been there?
It sort of reminds me of the first LCD TVs that were released that suffered from 'clouding' in the corners. Which could be 'massaged' out of the panel. Yet this is directly in the centre area if the panel. Or even reminds me the knuckle marks on my old Dell monitor (long MMORPG story) that look exactly like that. Damaged pixels that won't fill completely anymore.
I find it hard to imagine how this could happen without direct damaged (which is pretty much impossible in this scenario, without a damaged digitizer). Or without it being a manufacturing issue, prior or even during assembly.

Hmmm strange, I have the same problem since about 2 months. I thought it was my fault because I pressed the screen too hard or something. On my phone it's a dot, not a smudge.

Have you opened up the case of the phone at all? If you get something behind the screen it will push the center of it out and create exactly the issue you have.
Even if you haven't opened it up, something could be stuck back there. A big peice of dirt, a small plastic peice that broke up internally, or anything else.
If you have teken the device part, do it again and make sure it's clean behind the screen. If you haven't, send it back for a new one.
Is this something to just be expected with these tablets or should I go through the headache of returning it? Took me almost 2 weeks to receive it so I'd hate to return it if I'm being over critical...

Yea mine seems to go away after the boot as well, until I watch a movie or something that has the typical black bars on the top and bottom, then it's noticeable again...
same here
i also have a spot of light bleed on the upper right hand side that's fairly annoying.
i heard this can be cured by loosening one of the screws inside that holds the lcd to the glass.
it seems that the light is caused by pressure. i would love to hear from someone who has successfully opened the tf700 without breaking it LOL
im a DIY kind of guy but $500 + GLASS =
Just got mine yesterday. I noticed something like that on boot, but haven't had the time to grab my magnifying glass. This may be a quirk of the tablet. My razr has ugly black blobs when the brightness is way low and I'm in the dark. A bit annoying, but I'm over it.
That's fairly normal. It's not intentional, but light bleed happens on pretty much every device from any brand that uses LCD or LED screens. Not all infinities have it (Europe seems to have a higher quality standard than the US) but it is quite common worldwide.
Mine has some too. I went through like 5 returns for various reasons. From the July to October. They all had various degrees of light bleed.

Minor light bleed is normal on most LCD screens. You can put your TF700 and any Apple device side by side in bright ambient light, then enable IPS+ and maximum brightness on your TF700, and ask the Apple fanboy what's wrong with *their* screen.
(The TF700's display is one of the brightest out there - see http://www.anandtech.com/show/6036/asus-transformer-pad-infinity-tf700t-review/2)
Mine has even worse bleeding, do you guys believe I can ask a RMA after 4 months?
Would it make sense or they would send me back my tablet in the same or even worse condition?
Thanks
I wouldn't take much that any Apple "Fanboy" has to say about any Android product. They are, after all, called Fanboys for a reason. A bit of light bleed is normal and it happens even to iPad's. My wife and son both have one, one of the two has a light bleed very similar, so it's not just Androids or the Infinity.
Light bleed during booting up is perfectly normal, light bleed while you're watching movie/video is not normal. You can throw a custom bootanimation on yours so that during boot up you won't see the it.
Howdy folks, it seems the new Moto Edge 5G is exhibiting the same issues as seen on the Moto Edge+ since they share the same screen hardware. These issues are popping up usually within a few days of ownership and are starting to flood the moto support forums. Since we're an amazing group of members here at XDA, I figured I'd try to nail down some common ground and create a thread to discuss.
If your screen is exhibiting one of the following issues, please reply to the thread with the symptoms, the manufacturer birth-date (on bottom of phone's box), and a photo if possible. Please also share how long the phone was used before symptoms appeared, and whether it had been after a prolonged use period like all day gaming, or just poof it happened.
My Moto Edge 5G is exhibiting the purple splotches around the edges of the screen as well as the green tint.
Manufacturer Birthday: 07/09/2020
Appeared after 4th day of ownership, after long day of sporadic use.
I have a green haze right around the edges and I can't tell if that is apart of an edged screen. Will continue to monitor it.
If it's like the Edge plus and they basically share the same screen I doubt it will get better and will likely need a replacement phone. They did push a software update to the Edge plus that supposedly helped some phones if it hadn't started yet or was very early in the process.
As a person who is in the market for a new device due to a failing battery in my HTC 10, what would the general consensus be on buying and Edge right now? If it matters, I'd buy from the big yellow tag place since they have it in stock and are close. And then if the device has to be returned as well...
Wish they made the G Stylus with 5G

At the $500 price point it was a great deal, at its current $700 price point... I'd go elsewhere. Especially with the widespread screen problems, just look at the reviews on the yellow tag store.
Here's a great photo of the green symptoms side by side. Left is the old one, right is the new one. Pretty significant.

There's no proof the new one won't start it in a few days. if you want to spin the wheel of chance, go for it. But at $700 I think there's better options out there. OnePlus Nord, Pixel 4a 5G.
Haven't experienced any screen problems, I purchased my device unlocked for $349.99, which is amazing for a 5G device
I will add my $0.02 to this and say I believe it is an LED issue. LEDs might not be getting the right voltage at low levels. Try with an all-white photo. lower your brightness. I bet you could not tell. Try with any other color and you will probably not tell. It is most notable with a super dark grey picture. The kind of dark grey that has a hint of green in it already. Turn the brightness all the way down, then up to about 15-20 percent. You should be able to see it then. I think it is an LED voltage control issue. Software update that was mentioned by one of you up above would make sense to me. Maybe I might just be imagining things or mine is just different than every one elses. The way mine started was at the top of the screen showed it lightly, then it got a bit worse. It has stayed since then. I bought this on the 2nd of August, received it on the 4th. Screen started on the 10th. Today the 16th has not had a change since I believe the 13th, if I remember correctly. It is rooted with Magisk and EdXposed. I might make a return/repair request tomorrow.
So I'm at 4 days with my replacement Edge and it's working correctly so far.

Finger crossed
you really scare me with your screen problems. For the moment (5 days) I have no problem with my Edge (purchase in France) but what scares me is that it does not happen immediately and I do not have a purchase invoice (gift) .... I hope I have no problem soon: /
I really hesitate to sell it quickly so as not to have a problem ....
I have a very Little problema when I'm on dark grey screen with 2 or 3 % of brightness in 90hz mode... if I try to use 60hz mode the display is absolutely perfect..
Ok i have green tint...only at low brightness i have it...i'm si dissapointed....
I don't know what the HELL is happening
Moto Edge is not alone
https://www.sammobile.com/news/infa...sue-returns-galaxy-tab-s7-plus-note-20-ultra/
They can fix it by letting us adjust screen hues , like how Samsung has , so we can calibrate it
Yep, just noticed it today. Took awhile (bout 3weeks). I've been in dark mode, and my wallpaper's of blackness, didn't notice. It's severely getting worse, quickly. Did anyone notice, after the September update? Time to contact best buy.
Mine started out pretty minor, but has been getting progressively worse over the last few weeks. Initially seemed heat related as I only noticed it while using Google Maps in navigation mode. IT would start out as slight dark ghosting of the screen image on the right side of the screen and would progressively creep to the left side. Mostly it's a darkening of the correct image by ghost image of higher up, in particular it's seen as a dark circle where the front camera is. If the part of the image being ghosted is a strong color it will be ghosted in green or purple. As the screen is scrolled the ghosted images move as well. It's since gotten to the point normal usages more then 10-15 mins cause the issue. If I use the camera too long in the heat or sun then the lower part of the screen will go white and the touch digitizer stops working. Attached is a photo taken while the screen was 2/3s white with my company iPhone.
The warranty replacement arrives tomorrow. I just ran the most recent update QPD30.114-23-2 installed claiming fixes for screen issues, but still saw the ghosting after the reboot.

so far so good.
I stopped having issues when I disabled my always on display on lockscreen. Back then when it was still enabled the phone will be stuck on black screen and had to restart it always. Just a drawback for now since I've been used to seeing my notifs always.
I had this. My screen eventually completely failed and got it fixed at one of Asurion's centers (UbreakIfix) locally. Had it back same day.
It seemed to be working ok, but the line has been popping up occasionally, and the phone hard locked last night. It rebooted ok, but I expect it will fail again soon.
It'd be great if some journo started rattling Google's cage about this.

Yes, it would be great if they could address this bug. It has been present for a couple of months and they have not addressed it yet.
I had an issue similar to the pictures posted here yesterday and about 2 hours later half my screen went black. I rebooted and it would intermittently go black the rest of the day. Its been good all day today but I kept it out of my pockets entirely to prevent pressure on the AMOLED. I have also ordered the ifixit kit to replace the screen which should be here Wednesday. This Pixel 7 pro has been the most fragile smartphone I've owned. Disappointed in that
