I am a total noob.
Before finding this wonderful site I updated my stock froyo 2.2 rom to a gingerbread rom from Neal Pradeep. While the update worked I found too many bugs and I want to go back to stock. I have tried the noob guide, but when I follow it my phone reboots and sticks on the Samsung logo screen and just vibrates every minute or so. I have also tried updating further to GB 2.3.6 from this site, but when I do that I get stuck in a boot loop. Then I tried going back to 2.3.3 but I can't get into download mode now. Before I had to pull battery, hold vol down and power and then insert battery.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Try vol+ and vol- and plug into usb at the same time, no pwr button, to get into the download mode. Then try the noob guide again.

First off Neal Pradeep from android advices sucks. His roms has always had issues and hes keeps telling you to factory reset and do it over again and over again. I would avoid androidadvices from now on if I were you.The developers here know what they are talking about and will actually help you. Go read the bible gb ext4 starter by FB. Tog et out of the bootloop you need to be in download mode and use odin. The download mode button combos changed from froyo to gingerbead i believe. You also might need to install adb or some software that can enable you to go to download mode again I'm not too sure about this one though. Here's bible link

Hello! I just recently got my infuse, I had serendipity build 3 and I wanted to give MIUI a try (people said it had worked) and my cwm began to install then proceeded to say it was checking something but I can't quite recall what it was. I know it was a noob move but plea don't badger me, help ASAP would be greatly appreciated. It doesn't boot, the samsung logo shows up then "galaxy s" for a split second. When I attempt to connecty charger it goes into an endless bootloop every few seconds. I am not at my computer but will be in a few hours, as I am on vacation. Thank you very much to anyone who helps.

Probly not bricked, did you do a full wipe before flashing?
Try booting into recovery again and wipe data/factory reset
And wipe catch..
Hope it helps..

to flash miui follow these instructions
Flash with cwm, then when it won't reboot pull battery and boot by holding volume up down and power. Flash miui again and then wipe cache factory reset, then reboot
This doesn't belong in Development. Take this to the Q&A forum.
I know that sounds rude, but cluttering this forum with posts from people that can't follow the rules is what makes it harder to find what you are looking for.
Depending on your situation though. You should be able to hold down the volume buttons and then hold down the power button until it reboots, let go of the power button and boot into CWM. Conceivably from there you can flash a compatible ROM and kernel and be good to go.
Be aware though that in the future posts of this nature should be put in the Q&A forum.
Good luck.
Ok so i have a samsung galaxy s 4g and i tried to update my firmware from 2.2 froyo to 2.3.4 and i messed up along the way somehow and my phone got bricked. i tried odin many times and i cant get into recovery mode, ive tried the 3 button combo but i can get into download mode. when i power up my phone the screen goes white then says "vibrant SAMSUNG" then goes back to white then back to the vibrant screen. Try Odin 1.85 then take the battery out of your phone plug USB cable into your computer hold the volume keys up and down simultaneously plug cable into your phone meanwhile your still holding down your volume keys then put your battery back in. Be sure to have Odin files already placed where they belong and make sure you get them from a post that has alot of positive feedback, preferably one that has a good step by step how to instructions, you'll find all you need to know in the sgs4g Bible everything you need to know is in those Bible posts good luck to you it sux not having your phone believe me I've soft bricked and boot looped my phone several times even after successfully flashing firmwares several times correctly don't ever get to comfortable flashing one little mistake is detrimental to the life of your phone good luck bro.once you place your phone back into proper working condition make sure to flash Dr.honks kj1 kernal with voodoo lag fix cwm recovery and root permissions pre installed that really helps prevent the use of having to use Odin or heimdall to revive your phone again.then flash away but carefully and aware always of what files you put into your phone.

I have been running on the gb 2.3.3 rom (rooted) that I have flashed using odin back in summer and now decided to do some more upgrading . So I found a new rom that was very intriguing to me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305145 After doing some research I realized I needed to do a different type of flashing (cwm?), and not through odin. So I downloaded root explorer into my phone and followed the procedures in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122508 but every time I try to put my phone in the recovery mode (holding volume up + down + power) it wouldn't go into the blue screen. Instead, it would just restart, and restart, etc.. Any suggestions? Do I need to do something with the kernels?
p.s.hahah after messing around and looking through forums all day, I got a little impatient and flashed gb 2.3.6 using odin in the mean time

Try this.
Basically do what youre doing but instead of keeping on holding to it, hold on to Volup+voldown+power for 2 reboots, then on the 3rd reboot, the gs4g screen in the beginning lights up a slight lighter than usual. Let go of the power button, See if this works.

Download the Odin KJ1 version.
Just making a quick check. You ARE using a galaxy s 4g right? if so, then from that link, download the kg4.tar from the odin section. Then flash via odin. .
-edit.- listen to fbis. Hes more experianced than me.
I personally used the kg4. cause that was all there was back then. Ahaha. Glw flashing

Hi I have the same problem but I still cant get into recovery, I go straight into Download mode. Please Help
It might be because your phone is connected to the computer? If so, try disconnecting it
No its not that, I can access it without it being connected to a computer.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413
This thread says the original GB rom changed the key mapping. Any ideas on where I can find a fix. I think thats what happened to me.
hmm I'm still relativley new to this kind of stuff as well, so the only route I know that you can do that will most likley fix the problem is to odin to a newer rom, perhaps the one I have linked above, then odin the kernal as well to get it rooted and follow the guide on how to do it if you're confused. Then turn off your phone, hold (volume up + volume down + power), screen should boot up then dissapear, boot up again, then disappear, and on the third boot up, just release the power button but continue holding on to the volume up + volume down buttons and just wait. The cwm screen should come up from what I experienced on two different sgs4g's. Hope that helps somewhat lol. I'm sure there might be a easier way to just fix the key mapping but I'm not to sure on how to do it. gl
I just verified that method works for me as well. I'm lazy, though, and downloaded Quick Boot from the app store as it lets you boot into recovery or download mode. Less fuss.
Hi all
Yesterday, I rooted my I5801 (on Orange network) using z4root. Everything went as expected and I used Titanium Backup to remove all of the horrible Orange game demos/bloatware etc. After doing this, everything was working fine and I used the phone for all of today without issue.
I became curious reading about the key-combo for recovery mode and (stupidly) thought I'd take a look. I forgot the exact key-combo, so I just turned the phone off and tried holding vol up + vol down + home + power. Now whenever I try to start the phone, I get a yellow exclamation mark in a white triangle with the Android below. If I push the home button while on this screen I get an open box with an arrow pointing out of it and what looks like a progress bar below that, but it just takes me right back to the exclamation mark screen.
I can get into Download Mode by taking the battery out, putting it back in and holding vol down + power, if this helps.
I've read that it should be possible to reflash, but I really want to try and avoid this if possible, as I don't see why my OS would have died without trying to reflash in the first place.
Is it possible to get back into the OS without reflashing? And if I do need to reflash, can anyone make any recommendations?
Thanks in advance for any answers!
Welcome to the forum
First of all, thats a weird story you got there I have no idea what happened to your phone to be honest. The fact that you can get into download mode is a good sign, it means your phone is not hardbricked (yet) .
I really don't know how I would get around this problem without reflashing, maybe someone else knows a possible solution? I think flashing a new Rom (Android OS) is the way to go. Do you know the buildnumber of your current Rom? You can search for your current Rom in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063940. Download it and flash it with Odin via pc to your phone (while in download mode). That should fix it, its a pretty drastic method though.
Good luck
BTW: I'd prefer One-click-root as a method for rooting in the future, you need software on pc to do that. But thats my opinion.
Thanks for the reply! I'm not sure which build I was on.
I'm going to try and put on I5800XXJPU with Odin found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497261
Hopefully because there is no bootloader this won't hardbrick my phone!

Good luck.
In fact, I've just read that if you're going from Eclair (I was definitely on Eclair) to Froyo (which I believe that ROM is) then you need to have a ROM with a bootloader for it to work.
Guess I'll try Kyrillos!

Well yeah, I guess you're right... I still really don't quite understand what's up with bootloaders.
never heard about "coming from eclair, bootloader ROM needed for froyo update"!
My original FW was also eclair and I never ever flashed a bootloader!
But try and see if you get a brick with flashing a bootloader! I wouldn´t dare doing that, but it´s up to you.
I would open another thread and ask specially that question. Why?
Then you get more opinions to make your choice.
Good luck and keep us informed about the progress.
Sorted, I ended up giving the phone to a friend who is more phone competent than myself!
Here's the solution:

First of all going into download , must hold home + vol down + power , that's first mistake. Nothing bad happened to your phone yet , go and reflash any froyo with or without bootloader i did it countless times when no one on this forum had a firmware without bootloader starting from old JPF , yes there is a risk but the reflashing is the only solution Good Luck
When I say I can't use download mode, I mean when press the volume up/down + power, nothing happens.
For some background:
I rooted my phone as soon as I got it and ran MIUI up until about a week ago. I decided to go to CM7 because I have it on my Nook Colour and really like it, and MIUI was giving me a few little problems.
I used Odin to revert back to stock, but I couldn't get into Clockwork Recovery to flash CM7, and so I tried to use SGS Kernel Flasher to flash the CWM Community Voodoo Kernel V8 and now I'm stuck.
If I try to plug the phone in at all, I get the battery too low to turn on screen. If I try to enter download mode without the phone plugged in, it just gets stuck on the Samsung screen. I have no idea what to do now.
Any help is greatly, really immensely appreciated.
Never mind! Pay no attention to me, I just had an hour long brain freeze...
did you figure it out yet?
If not, here are a few methods to get the modded recovery you are looking for:

Thanks, I did manage to figure it out. I used Odin to flash back to rooted stock, and now I'm going to give this whole CM7 thing another go.
Wish me luck!

good luck..CM7 needs to be flashed twice, with a 3 button combo recovery and reflash after the first one...at least that was what I read, not having used it before
This always came in handy for me.
