Hi Community,
I want to make phone calls with my Transformer TF101G. Can any crack tell me what is needed to make this possible ?
best regards

Impossible, unless you use VOIP like Google Voice, and many other VOIP services.
No gsm hardware on board.
I use GrooveIP to make calls over wifi with the TF. It use a Google voice number
The only way I know to make calls with the transformer is to get a google voice account and GrooveIP from the market. It will allow you to make call but over WiFi.
I wish I could pair my Android phone to my Transformer and receive calls and text messages like I now can with my HP Touchpad.

There is an app its calld Autotether its the best app ive downloaded sice fooling with android. it allows you to use your mobiles data wirelessly with your transformer. When the transformer screen is on your data will turn on on your phone automatically. when you turn the transformer seen of the data disconnects and turns itself off on your phone. you never have to take it out or touch it once you set it up!!!!! totally worth a look
Thanks a lot for the answers. What a pitty. The best pad on earth and no gsm phone calls possible because google voice isn't available in all countrys (ex: Germany).

Trying out GrooveIP.
chevyrida,
May look at that option as well.
Really appreciate the info on all.
I want to be able to do the same thing. Have you had any luck with this? I can send and receive messages via GSM with the TF101G.

I think that it's pretty clear you need to actually pay attention to what you're reading rather than trying to talk down to people. Cuz in doing so, you've made yourself look like a right knob mate.
Sorry wrote in the wrong area looking for something else

On TF101 there is no GSM BUT on TF101G there is. I can send SMS MMS with no problem. I tries to get the ICS phone apk from galaxy nexus but I have an error during installation on the TF101G. The error is telling me that the app is already installed but with another pattern. I wonder what is the meaning of this and how I can see and/or uninstall the app that is on the TF101G and that I can't use as it is kind of hidden by default.
Is there someone with an idea for this issue that may solve this thread?
i found Phone.apk on \system\app directory, tapped on it but i receive this message: "system application. Overwrite anyway?"
thats because the partition where that file is in, is read-only.
i tried to unmount it and remount it as writeable, so i would be able to overwrite the phone.apk thingie with the one that seems to allow SMS and calls. but no luck yet. maybe not even possible at all.

Hey guys, im wondering if anyone has gotten any sort of Wifi calling to work on the shift? Im rooted with CM7, im bored so i need something to do to the phone lol
I recommend downloading/installing GrooVe IP whcih will allow you to use VoIP via 3/4G networks as well as WiFi. The only requirement with using GrooVe Ip is you have to have a GVC.
Wow thanks for mentioning grooveip worked great and was a snap to set up. Wish I had it when I had my G1 'cause I was getting free internet on it as long as i put 10 bucks every three months on my flexpay account. All well...
Anyone set up the SIP calling feature that in gingerbread? I don't know too much about voip =/

Yes, once Gingerbread is updated to the .4 version, you'll be able to use Google Talk for VoIP. Until then, get GrooVe IP. As I mentioned in my earlier thread, all you need to do is sign up for a GVA to use with GrooVe IP.

VoIP in essence lilgrass71 takes an analog voice signal, converts it to binary code, sends it across the internet in data packets and converts it back to an analog voice signal on the receiver's end. Examples of VoIP are Vonage, Magic Jack and Google Voice.

Your right jesusice. As I originally suggested earlier, get GrooVe IP.
I see. So is there a way I can find the log in server and information to put into my dialer to make the sip calling functionality work with my google voice account?

What I had to do was set up a PBX server and enter my Google voice information there! I used C sip Simple not the stock sip client on Android, it did not work as well. Then I could make Wifi calls from my cell and receive them on my GV number. I am guessing that is a lot of work for what you want to do, as of early this year tho I think T mobile was the only carrier that would allow you to use your cell and place wifi calls without using sip. Not sure if this was any help but just thought I would let ya know an option! This was the only free option I found as Google does not charge for "minutes"

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, GrooveIP is a very acceptable app for WiFi calling. HOWEVER, the kicker on this app for me (and perhaps it needs its own thread rather than semi hi-jacking this one) is the ability to make outgoing GV calls again from your primary headset if you've already integrated your Sprint ph # w/ GV. So, if you set up GV w/ an alternate ph # previously and have hesitated going w/ the Sprint-GV intergration because you didn't want to lose the call-out features, GrooveIP is your answer.
There IS an option w/i GrooveIP to accept incoming calls, but as of yet, every test inbound call I've made has been missed (edit - incoming works fine so long as data signal is strong). But outgoing works fine, voice quality is fine, and the comfort of again being able to use 2 phone numbers on the same headset is awesome. Highly recommended!

Can you elaborate on this (either on the forum or through PM), as I've been trying to set up a PBX unsuccessfully, and C sip Simple. I can't find the GV sip or domain info to complete this. Thanks!
Heya,
just wondering, will the Xoom have support for being a phone with ICS? Texts are said to work in HC with some hacks, so one can hope for more?

With Google Voice and an app like GrooveIP you can use the Xoom to make and receive voip calls as well as texts. Of course you need a wifi connection, and the Xoom is rather ridiculously large to use as a phone, but it does work. As far as making regular 3/4G calls, I wouldn't know.
I can use Groove IP and Google Voice to make calls over 3G/4G, although
I never do... I purchased Groove IP thinking that I would use it all the time.
I've used it twice. I keep it installed though and sometimes activate it. It's just not practical. Now Skype I use all the time.
For some reason I can't get Groove IP to send the audio to my Bluetooth headset, or use the mic from it either. I've tried a bunch of different settings and none of my combos have worked so far. Emailed the developer, but he hasn't had s solution either.
What sucks is that the caller on the other end hears an echo since their voice is coming out the speaker and going right back in the mic. When I muted the mic and the caller talked, they didn't hear the echo anymore. So if I could get my headset working with it, I'd actually be able to use the app...
On another note, any findings on tablet/phone interactions? I know this was touted as a big feature for ICS, but the only thing I've heard of is transferring files via wifi, like Apple's airdrop..
So I got my wife a new HTC One S to replace her HD2 which she had cracked the screen (Worked fine, but good excuse to get a look at a new phone). Everything set up fine, and is working well, but I can't seem to set up Google Voice for VM. Visual VM works (from TMO) but I use and love Google voice on my phone, as it sends you texts with the transcribed message.
If anyone can shed some light on this, every time I change it from my carrier to Google voice on the settings menu (Settings | Calls I think) it gives me an error and stays set to my carrier. Anyone have any ideas.
I have not rooted this phone yet, and as it is the wife's wasn't planning on it, but would like to get Google voice working for voicemail if at all possible. \
Any thoughts/ideas?? I am hoping someone here may know a work around or fix for this...
I also have the same problem. Normally I'd just install a new ROM without the bloatware, but it doesn't appear any are all that stable yet. Will rooting the phone allow you to uninstall stuff like TMobile's apps without having to put on a new ROM?
Anyway, I'm also curious about using Google's Voice.
It is the only issue I have left. I have been doing some research, calling t-mobile and turning off their VM may fix it, but I haven't had to do that on any other phone, so it is my last resort. Hoping someone else here has solved this, or done what I suggested, and validated it as a fix. If all else fails, by the end of the weekend, I will try that approach. Just seems odd that it is locked.
I have also tried *004*[google number here]# with an mmi code error, and **004*[google number here]# which did register, but then reverted just as quickly, when I went to settings|calls to review [I saw it show Google voicemail, only to change instantly back to My carrier]
My GV is still active on my phone from my Sensation and the only thing I did was a Titanium Restore of the GV app. I went into my settings on the One S and it says My Carrier but I just had someone test it and it came through just fine through GV. I would go into your settings in GV on the computer and make sure your phone is set up for VM in there and if it still doesn't work set it up on the old phone and just restore the app if you're rooted.
Good luck!

To avoid issues, I want to avoid rooting. It's the Wife's phone, and if I do anything to it, and she has a problem, I get blamed, even though we all know rooting isn't necessarily bad, and if she has a problem, it is probably the user, not the phone At the end of the day, I will root it if that is the only way to fix this, but I would think a Google phone should support GV out of the box, especially such an integrated feature within ICS. There must be some solution... although it is increasingly looking like I will have to call t-mobile, and remove Visual VM, to get GV to work... Just hoping to avoid that if possible too, as stated before, never had to do that, and always like a backup...
Hoping someone else has solved this and can share their solution. And before anyone asks, it is not a pre-paid plan, which I know has issues...
Found this on another forum, not sure if I can post the link, and it is too late for me to give it a try, but here is the other post, for anyone who wants to give it a shot. Having posted this, there still must be a way to do this without calling t-mobile...
So here's the scoop. Apparently, HTC has disabled the ability to change the voicemail carrier from the device itself. Probably some ploy to get users to use some other service or app. F That. I buy Android phones for a REASON. Anyways...
Here's the fix. Call T-Mobile support. Explain that you need to have the number changed on THEIR end. Just read them the Google Voice number over the phone and have them test it. And voilĂ ! Hope this helps!

I had them code my Wife's Google Voice number as the conditional forwarding number (which is actuallt the Voice Mail number on the phone), and haven't had any issues since. If you don't know your number, it should show up on your GV homepage. Once you do that, everything works as it should.

Would like to start off by saying thanks to all the developers that take their time to make us all happy. Now on to my question.....Is there or will there ever be a option on this stellar device that will allow MMS over WI-FI or even the opportunity to have simple WIFI calling? [Disregard all of this, thought we were talking about SMS]
I searched all over recently for the exact same thing, except I wanted on where I could keep my current number. I didn't have any luck. There are options like mighty text and desksms that let you send texts through your browser but its still using your carriers service. You could use text+ or other similar options to text over wifi for free but you won't have the same number.
Basically, unless you have imessage (obviously not) or you setup a google voice account and change your main number over to that, or if you're lucky enough to be on verizon which has google talk capabilities, you're lost. And just do a search for voice calls over wifi, there are tons of ways.

That is great and all but my main concern is that NONE of my MMS go out nor come in, so I am fishing here for a solution as there was on the SGS2 where you could flash a fix that would use the WIFI connection in order to send out the MMS instead of the NON existent Edge data connection. I am hoping this is making sense. I will look for the post for the SGS2 and update with what I am talking about.
Sorry for any confusion

I am able to send text messages because they use the simple GSM technology, but when it comes down to sending those pesky MMS (photo) messages, they WILL NOT go through. I have reset the APN a ton of different ways but nothing seems to work. That is why I am asking for some sort of development on MMS over wifi.

UPDATE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690814
I recently bought a tablet and I want to be able to place calls through my phone by dialing on my tablet. I can access the dialer by creating a shortcut to the activity using ADW, but it says voice calling is not supported. I know cars can place calls remotely using their voice recognition, so it is definitely possible on the phone's end. Does anyone here know if there is a way to remotely trigger a phone call?
Good question, I have not seen away yet. I do know you can send text and check you Google voice mail through Google Voice...

I've been a Tablet Talk fan but it requires that you be on same WiFi SSID or Bluetooth. The bluetooth is very portable, needs no data connection.
Talkatone https://play.google.com/store/search?q=talkatonetakes about 10 minutes to setup and works beautifully.
Cloud SMS is new and works wonderfully for text https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5iZWNoYXJkLmNsb3Vkc21zIl0. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951631 I think with your phone on and connected to internet via DATA or WiFi, you can text with the tablet anywhere you can get an internet connection.
If you want to do some work and use true SIP dialing, I use this:

I am a customer of them, for my home phone, and I just found out they make an app. Not only for the android, but for ipad to as well.
Bit pricy, but I am already registerd with them for a two year contract for only $20.00..., all it offers is a either a "free" phone number or I can use the one I have setup for my home phone.
If this is not for you you can search for VOIP in the app market.
