[Q] Virtuous semi turn-off? - HTC Inspire 4G

I've been running my HTC Inspire on the Virtuous 2.35 ROM for the past two months or so. Today, I was just on the Facebook app, and suddenly the Virtuous Unity box thing appeared on my screen. Everything went black, except the soft keys. My battery was around 45%, and none of the volume rockers or the lock button resulted in anything. I ended up taking the battery out, and restarting it. Everything seems fine so far. The black screen was for about 5 minutes until I turned it off. Should i be concerned about anything? Thanks.

That happens to be on 2.39 when I was trying to overclocked to 1.6ghz I'm thinking that's what caused it

this happened to me once but I took the battery out and rebooted which solved the problem

Does the "restart" option actually work for anyone?

As you all know when ya go to power off the Sensation, there is the option to "restart" the phone.
This is my 2nd Sensation that does not like that feature one bit.
Power off works fine, but when I hit restart, the phone shuts off and will not turn on by itself? In fact, it goes into a little mini hibernation and wont wake for a few minutes no matter how long I hold the power button down.....very strange.
It's no big deal...just strange to have it act the same way when choosing "restart" on two different units.
Anyone encounter this on the Sensation?
Thx!
It happened to me in the first few days but now its all ok. It restarts fine.

I had exactly the same, give it few days and it seems to resolve itself.. Give it a bit.

Hmmmm, strange indeed.
I've had this 2nd one for a week....guess ill try it on day 8
That's weird, mine is working fine. Have you tried to hard reset? pretty sure it is a software problem.
Mine works and worked fine right out of the box.
Right on.... No biggie. Everything else is perfect.
Yes, I've done factory resets, battery pulls on both units....same thing.
I just won't use the restart feature.
Thansks guys!
Mine works fine. I only use it when I charge my phone completely to reset the Uptime & Awake time. If not, It keeps running on the same timers I powered it off with.
I'm on my 2nd sensation and neither of them actually restarts. They just powered off
I had no problems with restart, but noticed it wouldn't yesterday?
Cool...probably just a random software bug. Maybe HTC will fix it over time.
Stupid question - are you waiting after the phone shuts down for the reboot? At first I thought mine wasn't working either but then I just waited for about 10 seconds after the shutdown and the startup starts again.
It's probably faster to just shut it down and then power it up.
Works great for me.
Mine didn't work until I turned off Fast Boot.

Yea it happen when I'm in a phone conversation

Works for me, although it seems like the boot was slower than normal. I didn't time it, but subjectively it seemed so.
Also, had one instance earlier where a "power off" actually rebooted rather than shutting down.
It's all been fine since that odd instance.
Mine does tmo sensation....

Mine is from o2, arrived yesterday. Reboot doesn't work for me either. Same as you described.
I'm my case, fastboot needs to be enabled for it to restart properly.

mine works perfectly fine, no problems with restart

Spontaneous reboot

Got my phone last Wed, and until 5 minutes ago it had been flawless.
Was sitting on the desk next to me, and spontaneously lit up, vibrated, and rebooted.
Everything seems to be fine, but was a bit strange.
Anyone else seen this?
I see it when using the music player

I've had this quite a bit, twice during phone calls too. Once it gets regular I do a factory reset and it sorts it for a few days. I'm also getting the capacitive buttons not responding but a reboot sorts it. I'm tempted to send it for repair but half of me thinks its just buggy release firmware.

The odd thing is I wasn't using it at all, and nothing was running. It was just sitting there with a dark screen and all of a sudden the boot screen came on.
If we were seeing lots of posts like yours I'd agree it's probably a common problem, but in your case I'd swap the phone. I'll definitely be monitoring closely.
Mine has rebooted twice in week and a half of owning, and also sense crashes about once a day, i go to unlock and its the HTC white screen the sense comes up loading....
I also have problem with restarting/reloading. However, it is a bit different situation. I get white screen and sense UI (and maybe everything else I didn't check yet) reloads. By my observations, it happens after I do stuff on a phone for a very long time (1 to 3 hrs). After such extensive use phone becomes even hot to the touch at the bottom of the screen. Then all of the sudden when I exit some program to go back to sense UI I get white screen and sense UI reloads.
I had the same issue with my first two sensations. I found out tho it was because of the 16GB SD that I was using from my MyTouch 4G. Once I reformatted the card inside of the sensation it never rebooted again.

oh really? i may try this.
Coming from the LG G2x and leaving with reboots as one of my main issues, this is extremely disheartening news!!! I hope HTC releases a firmware update soon as the G2x was pretty obvious that it was a hardware issue since the Optimus 2X STILL suffers from the issue with no word from LG about a fix coming.

Sounds to me like there's more than one cause of reboots. I'm using the stock SD and my phone doesn't get warm. I haven't seen Sense restart and I wasn't using it when it rebooted.
I have ordered a 16Gb SD though so appreciate the tip.
It's good to keep this thread going. I'll update with any new developments.
I've had 4 Sensations and my wife has 1. Not one has rebooted or had Sense restart/reboot. Might be a certain couple of apps causing it.

I really think that sense ui looks amazing...but i wish it would have came with Android 2.3.4 AOSP/Nexus S style...I guarantee half the stuff that's wrong wouldn't be an issue.

Same here too!
I have not tried yet the factory reset.
Also mine has a very weak gsm signal compared with other phones. Practically I have 0 signal where other have full!
Had the same issue so I formatted my SD card. Had no issues for the last 6 days. no reboots, nothing. Sence 3 has so far only crashed when messing around with unsuported 3d games, but that is my fault. Sence is very stable.

I had that issue as well. Getting from tmo a new sim card solved that issue for me.
I have three sensations on my account. I got all three at the same time. I noticed mine was rebooting couple times a day while the other two were not rebooting. So I exchanged mine and got the replacement about a week ago. So far no reboots at all. I would say if it is bothering you and if it is rebooting pretty often then you should exchange it.

Phone freezes during night.

Anyone with any helpful advices?
Three nights the last two weeks my phone has frozen. I use the phone for the alarm over night and almost got late for work at these three times now. Im charging it in the night. And when I wake up it is fully charged, the green light is on. The screen is off and non responsive. None of the buttons respond either. The wierd thing is also that the bottom touch icons, home, menu, back and search are lit up in its white color. Other that that the phone is dead and needs a restart by pulling the battery to work again. When restarting the alarms is still set and active. I also got a constant titanium backup sheduled every night at 01.00. It is set to backup apps that changed during the day. Like ingame saves and such.
I am running the latest coredroid rom and cwm 5.0.2.0 if that is of any help.
Anyone experienced the same issue?
Thanks for any help!

Seems like a kernel issue. Update your kernel to the kernel dev's latest version.

Coredroid resetting after being on for hours.

2nd time encountering this problem.after a few hours my phone freezes and attempts to reboot. It fails and just keeps restarting. I pull the battery out and it works fine again. Until a few more hours. What could cause this issue?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
FYI to anyone who does encounter this issue. My battery was getting too hot .. so it would restart. I downloaded 1.5 bricked kernel and am no longer having issues. Just a FYI!

I had the same problem but after changeing the Kernel , everything was fine again.
Meanwhile i´m on another rom, but Coredroid´s 2.6 v. will be released today...they say.
hope they fixed that problem.
Ehhh not today but being patient. So far phone us staying at about 35 c. So its not too bad at all now.

[Q] serious hardware issue

Hey guys,
My beloved nexus s 4g appears to be on It's last leg. After running cm9 stable for weeks without flashing any new roms or kernels it started freezing and locking up randomly. Eventually it started freezing midboot and doing nothing. Sometimes it hung on the splash screen and wouldn't boot. Sometimes it randomly rebooted into recovery out of no where.I tried wiping everything and starting clean, same issue. Most often, it will freeze after being asleep for a while and lock up when I press the power button
I tried running stock, same issues.
I tried relocking and unrooting, same issues.
I tried raising the voltages of clock speeds, same issue.
I have noticed if it's plugged in to a charger, it works perfectly. Any chance It's just a bad battery or something else?
Thanks for any advice guys and gals

Very strange...
RU insured? If so then swap it.
Have u tried to run a logcat to see if it shows anything after reboots?
I think batteries are like $10 bucks or so... or just go to phone store and tell them ur issue and use one if their batteries... but of course you'll need to be back to stock in case they check it
Good luck

It could be the battery not giving you appropriate voltage. I'd buy a replacement. At worst you're out of 10$, at best you Nexus S works.
Not insured. Upgraded to evo 3d, but I miss the nexus. I love the pure Google and form factor of the ns. Gonna try buying a new battery. Thanks gang

Got a new battery. Still has issues booting but seems to be a little more stable. Still not sure its usable as a daily phone :/
Thanks for the suggestions though
