...to BestBuy and get my money back. It's a B80 serial # (HTK75.US_epad-8.6.5.13-20110925) and from lurking here it has not been rooted yet.
Can anyone give a best guess as to when it might be? I been reading that if the SBKv2 version ROM is installed that it will never be root-able. Has this been confirmed?
If this is the case, I think I know what my decision will be.

rooting requires bypassing security features. either by discovering a key to go through the front door, or by find a backdoor.
either process is done via a non-deterministic process. therefore, there will never be an ETA, or any estimates. it happens when it happens.
devices with the new SBK (B70+), can technically be rooted. no one knows how or when.

I've got the same device and I really want to root mine.
In the end it seems all devices get rooted so i just think that if we don't have
the skills to do it ourself we'll just have to wait for one of the magical wizards to
do it for us.
The device is still giving me endless joy so i don't mind waiting a bit more.
I have a non-rootable B7O. Last weekend I purchased a B6O on ebay. I've got it rooted and running Revolver, overclocked to 1.6. I have to say that the difference is stunning. The non-rootable B7O has a perfect screen with no light bleed, so I am going to keep it awhile to see if rooting comes through. Otherwise, I love using my B6O now. Love changing things like themes and buttons. Got it running Hulu last night. Really enjoy a rooted device. Pulling for you 'rayman' as you work on cracking the locked boot loader!!

Return it and buy my mint B60 off of me. PM me if interested.
Well I decided to keep it rootable or not. If they root it, great otherwise it still serves its purpose for what I want.

I'm sorry, are you connected with this site? Are you a moderator? If not just get a life and worry about other matters.
So what if its been asked before? Maybe there is a new answer to the same question. Or maybe searching didn't provide the exact answer that I was looking for. This forum is not that huge where this is a burden. It's all text and storage is cheap. It's the nature of forums that questions will get asked repeatedly so deal with it.

Yes I am connected with this site. As are all users here. We have been asked by the mods to help keep the site clean and to report when people insist on breaking the rules. This is a developers forum not n00by spoon feeding forum and if you can't be bothered to look for the answer first then go away

Well here's the thing - there's something called Forum Rules - maybe you should check them out!
The first one says to Search before posting! Pretty self-explanatory. So the question "so what if its been asked before?" is the wrong question. The correct question is, "How do I find the forum rules so I can read them?" to be followed by the statement, "It is a good thing for users to search."
It's XDA-Developers, not XDA-SpoonFeeding-Restaurant-Dujoir.

If you go through the down then up then you end up with root now. If you are waiting a few days/weeks for someone to come up with a direct 3.1 method you save maybe half an hour on the process. Do the math.

Since 3.1 isn't out yet, I'm going to say not yet. And before any buffoons say otherwise, the leak isn't an official release, so I don't count it as such.

I personally think its rude to ask this if you're not working on it yourself, but either way this thread does not belong in the dev section. Its nothing personal and there are a few others on the first page that shouldn't have posted here either.

You know, XDA has a reputation for being snotty and condescending on the web, thanks for further pushing that out to the masses I didn't get a Thanks meter TWICE yours for being "rude", nothing personal, but you can take your attitude and, well, you know... ROFL I said personally. I don't hold that opinion to others whatsoever and I don't think there's anything wrong for someone else to ask. As far as wanting things to be posted in the appropriate section, well this section is for developers/development. Questions can go in general or ask a Mod to make a Q&A section.

Now, if you have anything pertinent to the question, feel free to submit it, if not I will ask the mods to lock it because it isn't worth going on with people like you ruling the roost.

Why wouldn't a question about rooting go in the dev section, when all the root threads/guides are in that section?

Because the Dev section is for ACTUAL developments, not questions about developments. Questions about developments go in the General section (here) and when the development comes into place, a thread about the development is made in the dev section. The mods aren't really on the ball with closing/moving threads, that's why it looks confusing, but head to the n1 section, or the g1 section. You'll see what I mean.
Honeycomb 3.1 and Root, when? << This would be in the Q&A or General Section
(DEV) Honeycomb 3.1 New Root << This would be in the dev section

No offense, but just because you post a question regarding your device doesn't mean that you will get a response immediately. Many of the users of this site are devs and are working on trying to make an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM to work 100%. You don't need to rely on everybody else to answer your question and some research may need to be done on your own.

@zelendel is a Moderator on the forum and is far more tolerant than I am. I said that if you were serious you should search. The first rul of XDA (read them if you haven;t done so before) is to "Search before asking anything". This question has been asked many times, sometime by noobs, sometimes by trolls, so the answer and the reasons why not are on XDA and Google in many, many places already - starting a new thread to ask the same thing is contrary to the rules of XDA and, to be honest, is just ignorant and lazy as well.
While Simon is correct about searching. I will break it down the best I can. The device is just not compatable with android. All the bootloaders are locked down tighter then fort knox. The kindle that you mentioned is based off of linux like android is. The iphone will never be allowed to run anything other then apples software.

You are more then welcome to ask question, but please understand that this is a developers site. Alot of the questions most new users have already have been asked a few hundred times. So searching first will most likely save you time and frustration. So of the people here are a bit short but that is due to people thinking we are a support site. This is the furtherest from the truth. So my advice would be to search and read. Things will come to you in time. You will also notice how the same questions are asked over and over again. After some time this will start to annoy you as well when you are looking for info and you have to read over hundreds of posts of the same question.
I will close this for you as you can not close or delete any threads. Even ones you make.
I've only had my S6 for a couple weeks so mine was already updated to the latest OTA version by the time I got it, and so I can't use pingpong. I don't mean to be redundant and post this question if it has already been asked but I can't find any other info at the moment in this forum, but does anybody know if anything is in the works for the current version that it would be worth holding off on the upcoming 5.1 OTA? Or is the root that you first wave guys got to use probably a one-time thing for this phone? Coming from an HTC one where I was able to unlock my bootloader I am starting to miss having root...

Yeah don't bother reading the question before posting a dumb pretentious answer to it. I asked if one was being WORKED ON that was worth holding off on the OTA for, not if one was available now.
I agree.. Lots of jerks in these forums.. I check regularly to see if a root method is available BUT ALSO to see the progress if any.. Simple yes or no or say nothing .. No need to be an ass.

I'm not sure if a root method is being worked on for the current update but I can tell you that the exploit for pingpong has been patched so that is a one time thing. I think our best bet for the next method will be when 5.1 comes out.

No, everyone has given up all hope and quit.
Seriously, what kind of answer to you think you would get?
The people working on it are rarely going to talk about it until they actually have a solution unless they are working with other developers trying out possible solutions. None of it is going to be public until they have a solution to prevent the MFG or vendors from plugging up a new hole they found before they can use it.
Asking if it is being worked on is just plain dumb. This is the same cycle of every new device that has ever been released with the same questions asked all over again.
What really is the point in asking? IF and when it becomes available it will be big news splashed all over the forums not just here but other places.
Constant asking about it is actually a violation of the forum.

I just got my Note 5 this afternoon, not a single one of my credit or debit cards will work with Samsung Pay and since I am with USAA it may be a while before it does, as such the itch to root is even stronger now.
Has the latest OTA been rooted yet? I am currently still on 5.1.1 but I am getting the notification for an update.
Would it be wise to update or should I wait a bit longer?
In other words has unlock and root been achieved on the newest OTA yet?

I didn't ask if it could be rooted.
I asked if MM had been rooted or if it was only LP at this time, as all I see in the development forum are 5.1.1 roms and kernels.
This is why I asked the question the way I did.
There is a very good reason that XDA has the reputation of being a bad place to go if you have questions, and your response is part of that problem.
The Q&A forum is for precisely these style questions.
Now, seeing as how I did not ask how to root the device as there are plenty of threads on that, would you care to take a stab at answering my actual question.
I won't be mad at a link to a thread which answers the question I asked.
Just do this

Looks like this when done right
And again, note that the link and the screenshot is for LP, I am asking if MM has been rooted yet.
Though I do very much appreciate the response.

Its all good. I won't go there with this one. The back and forth isn't worth it. You should also probably edit your post!
MM Beta is rootable. Go to the development section to find out the pros and cons of using the beta. I advise you to stay on LP. There's only the stock rooted beta kernel available for MM. There's a lot of cons to being on it, so please keep that in mind is you decide to flash it.
See how much help I still gave you without actually posting a link? Not trying to be a **** but if we soon feed the work, the work wouldn't know how to feed itself. I started off as the wise noob ever, and bricked phones. If I had only taken the time to Google and research, those devices being bricked could have been avoided.

I realise in my first post I did not give names as I had thought I had. This is why upon re-reading it I apologized as my original question wasn't clear.
Thank you for the follow up.
In any question thread the answer should be clear, even if it is simply a link to another post, in this way those coming here in the future can follow the link rather than seeing a simple "nevermind I figured it out" and my post being the only response to their search. Please note, I did not say you had to provide a link, just said that even if your answer was simply a link to where I could find the answer that would be fine as well.
Note I did search, but as I was looking for MM ROMS I could not find anything, I was under the mistaken impression that MM was on the device. This is where I erred and why I could not find anymore information.
For all future folks taking a look at this thread, as of today MM is not available on the Note5 and the newest OTA (as of today) has already been rooted and you can find a number of ROMS in the development section.

Damn, you came off as really stabdoffish and a bit entitled, like everyone here owes you their time searching for a subject you could easily have searched for yourself. Smh

Honest question for you.
After reading the thread, seeing where I had apologized and seeing that the issues was solved and the back and forth was done, what compelled you to respond in such a negative manner?
You end your statement with "smh" which I can only assume stands for "so much hate" as it is currently used.
So why bother? You see the thread is resolved, you see the question has been answered but then you just felt this need to respond?

Smh means shaking my head. And it doesn't matter if it was resolved, you got all upset that none of us took the time to GOOGLE or FORUM SEARCH for you, when you could have easily done that yourself. The sense of entitlement was pretty thick.
And again, if you had actually bothered to read I state that I did search but was under the mistaken impression that this phone had an update to MM when it had not, hence the reason I could not find anything when searching for MM ROM's, this is why I asked.
So your assertion, especially after I had already stated I did, that I didn't search is completely unfounded.
The issue I took was with a response that boiled down to "do your own research as this help forum isn't here to help you".
This is an issue at XDA and why XDA is universally made fun of and considered a bad place to go if you have questions that haven't been answered, because a bunch of folks will respond with vitriol without bothering to read the rest of the posts.
For instance, the best answer was already given, but it would have hurt nothing for Jamool to have said:
"The latest OTA update is currently LP and that has been rooted, you can find multiple roms in the development section of the forum, here is a link (link). And in the future make sure to make use of that search button."
At which point I would have realised that I was mistaken on the idea that the Note5 has Marshmallow already and that would have been the end of the conversation.
Now, can we consider this matter closed otr would you like to once again respond and tell me how I didn't bother to search?
P.S. I cannot be the only one that has noticed that the search function seems to stop working at 11pm EST am I?

I just got my Note 5 this afternoon, not a single one of my credit or debit cards will work with Samsung Pay and since I am with USAA it may be a while before it does, as such the itch to root is even stronger now.
Has the latest OTA been rooted yet? I am currently still on 5.1.1 but I am getting the notification for an update.
Would it be wise to update or should I wait a bit longer?
In other words has unlock and root been achieved on the newest OTA yet?

Where you on N920TUVS2COKC when you got it? If so how did you root it. I got mines today & dont see any updates available. Also the space kernel has been pulled.
............ junk . deleted
I did google, and as I said already. I was wrong.
I guess you really don't bother to read previous posts.
How dare I post a question in a question and answer forum specific to my question.
