Locations Maps: where they are stored in the device? - HTC Desire S

Hello!
Does anyone know where the maps of Locations are stored in the device, in our HTC Desire S?
Every time I flash a new ROM, I have to redownload the maps.

I would guess:
/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.maps/
If not it should be here:
/data/data/com.google.android.apps.maps/

No, that is where the google maps data is...
The HTC Locations maps are stored in sdcard\.data\navigator\Data\Maps
They get erased out everytime you wipe data, and thats why you have to redownload them. Take a backup and then restore after flashing a new ROM. Should work without a problem.
Just check it out and let me know if you think i'm wrong.
Hope this Helps.

Thanks, I found them at that location.
I noticed that, each time I change (or upgrade) the ROM, I have to download again the maps despite that the sdcard content should remain untouched.

Let's try an experiment!

Same here.
The folders with "." prefix are susceptible to ROM manipulation and the best known example is .android_secure, which gets wiped everytime you flash a new ROM. Even when you backup your ROM, you'll notice that one of the last steps is "backing up .android_secure" which is actually located on the SD card!
So i'm pretty sure when the ROM is setting up the new data, it does so in the .data folder (which gets wiped during a new ROM flash) where our maps are stored.
So i guess next time we flash a ROM we should go into that folder and see if the maps have been deleted before downloading them again.
If they are indeed gone, lets restore from our backup (on pc) and see if it works.
I'll keep you posted on this thread and vice versa and see if this theory works.
Deal?
EDIT: Read above again. Did some more thinking...

OK!
Anyway, I think I will make a backup copy of the directory maps.

Same here. Took a backup. I hope this works... its really irritating having to download 300+ mb after every flash!!

300+ MB?
I've downloaded the map of Italy (565MB) and France (833MB) for a total amount of about 1,4GB !!!

Well, i'm a little underprivileged here and get the entire map of India for just 372 Mb or so.
I dont really use it because i use Sygic Aura for navigation, but i like to have the maps just for the sake of that "Completeness" feeling. Do i hear OCD ?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The preoccupation to have everything set up exactly the same way all the time... Google it.
Or watch the fantastic movie "As Good as it Gets" - Jack Nicholson at his best!!
Cheers.
P.S. It was just a joke. I'm perfectly normal. (Just that the wife disagrees!)

hahaha!
I thought it was something technical!
I use google every minute!

OCD = Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. i.e. all you homescreen icons HAVE to match your theme or the world just aint right.
I'd not worry too much about the Google Maps caching issue. Any time now Nokia (who have climbed into bed with Windows Mobile) are going to start releasing their new devices. Nokia are bringing their Ovi Maps to the party. I had this on my Nokia 5800 a couple of years ago and it is very good. All off-line navigation for free.
Google (if they have any sense) are just waiting for this to launch, then they'll flip a switch which lets Google Maps data stay on your phone. Take that Nokia!
Heard rumour about this on engadget months ago. Would make perfect sense for them to time it to spoil Nokia's party. Can't have the competition start trumping your famous Navigation software!

Gotta feel sad for Nokia though. Oh how the mighty fall!
They're but a shadow of what they used to be... and could have been...
Fond memories of days gone by and what Symbian used to mean. Sigh...

If you flash different rom versions you will have to redownload your maps. I.E 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 and vice versa.

If you talk about android versions there is no problem. I was coming from another 2.3.5 Android ROM.

I have to disagree.
Even though i havent changed my Android version for a long time now (I've been on 2.3.5 for the last 7-8 ROMs i've flashed) i still have to download the maps everytime i flash a new ROM (clean install, not upgrade).
I'm sure that's also the case with fbcyborg. Right?
It's not just a matter of changing Android versions.... every data wipe causes you to lose maps.
With every single clean install (with full wipe) you will lose the maps, no matter what android or sense version you flash, be it same or different...
So backup the contents of the folder i mentioned in my previous post and restore after flashing a new ROM. That's the only solution.

Yes! That's just what I meant in my previous post. As far as I can understand, the full wipe, cleans both /data and /sdcard/.data.

Hey, fbcyborg, my theory regarding maps storage was correct!!
Just tested it out when upgrading a ROM.
After setting up, i downloaded locations and then it warned me there were no maps available and asked me to download. Instead of doing that, i put the phone in usb drive mode and went to the navigator folder in .data and there were no maps in the maps folder.
So i copy pasted the map i had backed up from the same folder previously, and viola!! Locations working flawlessly!!
Hope this saves you downloading 1.4 Gigs of maps everytime from now on!!

[ROM][32A RADIO 6.35]Eclair w/ Nexus1's 3D gallery CAM & most things are working well
this ROM is for Sapphire 32A SPL 1.76.2007 and latest Radio 6.35.07.29.
pure AOSP build, google bits and gallery are added. (make sure you think you have the rights for using the apps from google, i just make some copy for you)
thx: Cursordroid, Enomother, Cyanogen, RA, jnwhiteh, ChainsDD, sober (who have full of courage for testing my first kernel ) , and more...
what's new: less crash, more stable. new gallery app which use hardware accel. a new step to full working with our new radio.
the update.zip, just push it into ur sdcard then apply it from recovery: http://www.4shared.com/file/202007372/5352e8b4/my2x.html

if you are a 32A user with old radio, and you want a upgrade or try this ROM, follow Cursordroid's instruction to Update your 32A Magic to 6.35.07.29 Radio and 1.76.2007 SPL
working (update: all confirmed by me or other users):
camera
gps
wifi
mobile data
sensor
lights
gps
bluetooth
openGL
Gallery3D
googlebits
working but leaving some questions open:
playback (will print error message in log, not tested with many format)
not working properly:
camcorder (only preview working)
I would not say "it is very fast", but I feel it fast enough. and if you do not care about the multi-media things, i think this build seems not bad.
(for the multi-media things, they are mostly caused by media libs in AOSP, which google have not done yet. (but i cannot understand why nexus-one can have a stable version !!!) it is not all the HTC/Qualcomm's fault, Google didn't do their job very well too)
if there are something I missed, or I made some mistake, don't be sulkiness plz. i will fix them with you. let us make it better and make more 32A user switching to new Radio, with more users, we can do better and more quickly.
file/things includes:
AOSP master, I keep it at the API version 5, because things with API 7 for other devices (except nexus1) are not stable, i don't want to pretend that we have a nexus1, and make things unstable.
su and superusers from ChainsDD.
kernel which i modified from msm-kernel-2.6.29.
libhtc_ril.so, omx libs are from a leaked official 2.x ROM. camera libs, libgps.so from another one. (thanks the man who provided them)
libhtc_acoustic.so and some miscs files from official 1.5 ROM. akmd too, but akmd from 1.6 ROM have newer version and i think it will works too.
google bits are come from different sources too:
Gallery3D/google framework parts from nexusone dump, i think Enomther deodexed them, thank you and I LOVE YOU.
Other google's things are versions used everywhere, and here are my thanks to the one dumped them --> m(_ _)m.
cyanogen's patch which is directed towards infinite sync. it may be a temporary workaround, when google do things right, i will remove it.
.......
more: lock screen and wallpaper is the eclair's initial one as AOSP source released with them. if you want other lock screen, customize it yourself, and tell me how ^^, I'm really not a good cooker .
known issues and workaround:
1. camcorder can not record, but it didn't crash anything as previous one (with my kernel, from jnwhiteh) would crash some.
2. video playback has many errors the video can be played though. just reported by logcat, and no more thing will happen in my tests.
3. if you stay in the Gallery3D UI, and the phone sleeps later, when it wake up, the Gallery3D lost hardware acceleration. you can quit and enter this app again, it will be fine.
4. first boot with google bits may not go without a hitch. you can remove all google apps in the zip (you must resign it) and push them later.if you boot with googlebits:
you will see a dialog let you choose the default behavior, select SetupWizard here. if you select another, you can not use internet during the first boot, it will say "no connection", though we are connected.
the SetupWizard will start twice, the second one is for asking you to sign in a google account, you can just press menu to quit.
and there are many lags in first boot, maybe black screen (can not light, you can "adb reboot" it) or some crash (i have met once for each and I flash it serveral times) if you operate too fast.
after second boot, it will works fine. it seems if we give the phone more time to do many initialize jobs, it will work happily even in first run.
5. with superuser, if you select deny, the app which needed the permissions may be force closed. it is a bug in su sources i used which is not belong to me and i have no time to look and fix it yet.
update:
6. when wake up the phone, screen turned on, but backlight of screen not. if you can see image, just go to setting and set brightness, then the light will open. need more reports (like situation/logcat/dmesg, etc.) to locate the problem. i encountered this problem once.
7. "died in sleep", this problem has been encountered by others, personally, i met it once during first run, after a reboot I never met it again. but I don't think this problem just appears during first run. instead, i think the situation of first run is more closed to the condition triggering it.
I think there must be more problems, let us find them together, and fix them by our hands.
update: after some search I found that some softwares (like nettraffic) will cause more "died in sleep" in some ROM/kernel/Radio combination. and many kinds of "died in sleep" can be avoid with some tweaks, but i don't know if they are same problems as ours, and i can not get what this tweaks are (or why, how..) from anywhere yet.
i am waiting for more details to fix 6 & 7. I will be grateful if someone can provide some info about similar problems, since I had seen these problems in some other ROM/kernel/Radio combination.
and guys who encountered these problems, could you provide more details plz? something like: occurred during first run/other, with situation XX (mobile/wifi/software X running, etc) which you think it caused the problem occurred more often. if you can reproduce it, we will get very closed to fixing them.
great job!
Another ROM using the latest SPL/Radio... great!
Downloading now.. will try flashing later...
Nice work sanpei!
Great job. I will try it immediatly.
Excellent, nice to see some other developers working on this radio/SPL version as well!
I will definitely be trying this out today!
Awesome will try when I get home from work.
Would it be possible to implement the Nexus apps-menu in a later build?
bug report:
The screen remains black (can't see anything) after sleeping even if I press any of the buttons. I just removed the battery then reboot.
Aside from that, it's quite fast and responsive. The transitions are nice too. Keep it up dude!

is it like the situation "die in sleep" in some build which are based on CyanogenMod? (when i was using old radio)

Newb questions
Hi Guys,
Sorry for the lame newb questions. I just want to verify this prior to trying this ROM.
I'm currently using CursorSense 1.0.1 - which is my every day ROM (great functionality, fast, does everything I need)
I'm really interested in trying out Android 2.1 - and seeing as this uses the same SPL / Radio - it means I should be able to just wipe and flash this one. HOwever seeing as I just want to take a peek and play around with it, I don't want to screw up everything on my phone toooo badly lol.
If I do a nand backup - wipe and flash this new ROM, when I'm done, can I do a wipe, then reflash the nandroid backup and everything will go back to the way I have it setup now?
Also will anything get screwed up on my SD card leaving it as it is flopping from one ROM to the other and then back (it's non partitioned, and loaded with misc folders created from my apps)
Thanks!
Gritten

Yes.. backup, wipe, flash, try, wipe, restore.. I even think that last wipe isn't even necessary, but it doesn't harm either. A Nandroid restore restores your phone exactly as you left it (incl. your call log, SMS, apps, etc.)
It could be that some new folders/files are created on your SD card (if required by Eclair apps), but since they are not used by your previous rom it won't be a problem (unless you don't want to keep those unused folders and files on your SD card).
If you are not sure, or don't want to keep the extra folders/files, you can always make a backup of your SD card on a USB or PC prior to trying the rom.
Have fun! ;-)

Yes. You can restore from nandroid backup and everything will go back. I often switch between CursorSense 0.4 and sanpei's rom several times a day.
so can anyone answer if this is a good everyday rom? or equivelant to cursor sense?

The ROM is well done. It's responsive (no lag from my playing) even the 3d gallery ran very well.
I didn't use it too long for everyday items as I'm a Sense fan, however I find that standard plain Android is pretty empty when I don't have my sense stuff on top lol.
Definately play around with it if you're interested.

Been testing it for a few hours. So far not a single FC and i can confirm that BT works just fine, also OBEX with Bluetooth File Transfer by medieval software.
SMS and emails send and get received just fine.
Tested the GPS in both google maps and the GPS status app to check efficiency, and so far everything works just fine.
The gallery is really sexy, now we just need to get the Nexus1 apps-menu implemented .
Actually there are three other things i'd like implemented also:
Animated desktop
Wireless tether
Google Nav
What do people think about that?

Work in Progress:
- I'm working on what I call, InstaExec (IE).
The DHD is the perfect device to test it on (thanks to its 768 MB RAM).
Techie details:
Copy over /system | /data to a ramdisk (early in initrc), then do a switch_root and continue init script. The cons are a slower boot, of course. Syncing after-boot changes is on the todo list. Using IE will also imply that you're quite confident in RARE shutdowns. It would be a pain to wait for a couple hundred Mb's to get copied over each time you boot.
A crypted version is also in the works (although that would only make sense for /data/data, /data/misc and /data/system)
They key file HAS to be present in /mnt/sdcard, otherwise crypted mount will fail.

I have reported this project for the Evo 3D (or another at least dual core/1GB RAM device).
The DHD is not capable of handling the pre and post boot routines for phones requiring a reboot quite often.

Okay guys, a test version is ready. Before I upload it, Lemme know a few things:
What apps you CAN'T live without (stock apps)
I want to get rid of bloat.
For example: why would you need 10 apps and widgets for Facebook and Twitter when you can replace that with TweetDeck?
That won't be a problem with the AOSP version I'm working on which will ultimately be [email protected] for DHD.
I say remove:
Amazon MP3
Blocked callers
Desk clock
Facebook
Friend Stream
News
News & weather
Peep
Quickoffice
SoundHound
Stocks
Teeter
Twitter
the only stuff i use in sence roms is music, contacts and calendar ... oh and the clock ;-) the rest can go for me ;-)
I could probably live without most of the stuff on there, would love to keep the big clock weather thing though. This is my first android phone so looking forward to playing/learning with it.
I've rooted my phone as per Evostances instructions, will i need to do anything else before I can flash a rom?

Yes, i was triying through fastboot, but then i tried from the bootloader with the zip, and everything went allright. Now ur rom is working perfectly! Thnx a lot! I really don´t like sense, and before i had a nexus one and i loved it´s interface, so this is the closest to it.
Btw, could u build a rom completely empty? I mean, with no so many apps, just the basic ones like Gapps and that´s it? I´m the one who likes to have just a few apps.....
Thanx!!!
awful
this rom is awfull, why the hell did you add other useless apps in place of the htc ones? that 8pen app is crashing constantly, i can't bring up the keyboard so can't enter my credentials for market.
I'm highly disapointed, moreover i can't go back to the official htc rom, i need a windows PC to run their ****ty RRU...

if you're nice enough i'll load my rom up which is stock+su with amazon and soundhound removed. if you're nice
sorry
yeah i'm sorry, i was angry because it's late here and i need to sleep, well except the apps and the 8pen stuff the rom works quite nicely and is smooth, where do i get the system.img file ? i tried to extract the assets from the .exe to get the rom zip file but once i get it i cannot open it, says unauthorized or something like that...
Hmm, I have had no issues so far, that is why I uploaded the files.
As for 8pen, just hold on menu in any input field and select input method -> Swype.
Or disable 8pen from Keyboard settings menu.

Loving the new ICS from Android Revolution 6.0.2

I just wanna share my experience of using the Android Revolution HD™ 6.0.2...
so far so good although at first when i flash the rom i was stuck at the bootloader because i thought the firmware can be flashed but it turn out that when you had already flash the rom you will have to go to hboot screen to update the firmware package but all in all i am very statisfied with this rom....
things that i liked-
-battery performance lasted a couple more hours longer... maybe because i flash the radio as well but i did see a little bit of difference..
-faster startup
-very user friendly interface
-so far after 5 days my phone had never crash even once
things that i dont like-
-i cant seem to open premium navigation for in htc locations after validating my licences... it always says htc location is stopping....
however i can use google location.... so for me this is good enough but if anyone has any solution do share it with me.... thx
Any random reboots or shutdowns?
Sent from my MIUI.us Sensation 4G using XDA App
Nice to know there are people satisfied as well. I see lots of trouble around, mostly with the new firmware/hboot.
I'll wait for the stable version though.
so far no random reboots or shutdown... yea people are having trouble with new firmware but once you start using ics its totally worth it your long hours of reading...
How easy for the firmware update? Did you have to change that text file within a zip?
the firmware update when i downloaded it was already in zip format... so i just place it in my sd card... so when you enter hboot screen it will automatically update...
Just had a random reboot using camera.
Gallery is very buggy as well as ringtones
hmm... did not occur in my sensation... probably u should try superswipe again... update firmware again... and flash boot...N try updating the radio as well.... gd luck... so far so good for me.. on my sixth day and rocking..

Q 2: My Premium Navigation doesn't work correctly. What should I do?
A: Your Premium Navigation may not work correctly for many reasons. Most of them are not ROM related. You can try the following things:
- reinstall your Locations under "Settings" ---> "Locations"
- remove /sdcard/.data/navigator/Data/Temporary from your SD card
- re-download Google Maps from the Android Market
- clear data from Google Maps in system software management

I'm actually really tempted to switch from 3.6.x to the ICS version. But I think I can wait a bit longer. Read in another thread that HTC's going to release their ICS in a couple of weeks.
Been using ARHD for a couple of months now and overall I am happy but now I am thinking of making the move to the ICS version of the rom and was wandering what the main benefits/difference are
With Sense? Sense is pretty much senseless with all the functionality of ICS. ICS core is about 120 MB and the sense ROMS are close to 400MB imagine how much faster your phone would run without Sense. Also any issues with contact merge?
Luv'n ICS and I'm on Virtuous 2.0.1 Senseless!
what you mean by "remove /sdcard/.data/navigator/Data/Temporary from your SD card".... should i delete this folder (temporary folder in data)...
"re-download Google Maps from the Android Market" i have search in android market there is no google maps app in there.... in the market it only has only "a google map navigation book"....
N wat do you mean by "clear data from Google Maps in system software management".... sorry i am not that clever.... thx in advance
I have the same problem too...
Still can not figure how to solve this....
Maybe i just go back to ARHD 3.6.12 until the ICS more stable...
Been using ARHD 6.0.2 for the whole weekend, and i must say that i'm loving it, just had one FC on whatsapp, other thant that is great. I have been all day long updating my spotify playlist in wifi and still remains more than 15% of the battery. Great job with the rom

I've had some occasional crashes and restarts, but otherwise I love it. Looking forward to the next release, and more importantly the next HTC leak.

I quote myself because i found something annoying, not serious, but was wondering if someone else had noticed it. It affects the power button, sometimes it does not work, i mean, if the phone is swithced off, when i press the button, nothing happens if i don't remove the battery and place it again. It also happens trying to wake the phone.
Maybe it has something to do with the Fastboot option?
Thanks again
i still havent manage to get my premium navigation to work... htc location map is working fine... what i mean is that if i open the normal htc map using the location it can open but when i change to driving mode it crashes... anyway manage to get papago to work for me after tweaking and playing with the resolution settings and the app called spare parts... anyway if anyone find any more solutions regarding htc location fix do tell me.. have tried tons of ways but still it keeps on crashing... amazingly the other features of my phone is working superbly fine... not even a single crash for more than one week... only once i have to reboot my phone when it could not connect to wifi after 3-4 days.... Not perfect but way better than gingerbread...

Bug Village just stopped working...WTF

Just wondering if anyone ran into this issue. I've been playing bug village for a little while now, Avoiding paying for coins, I would set a few tasks a day for the bugs and check back to make sure they are fed.
For a few days in the game, I started getting black screens but, it came back and worked. Yesterday, it just stop totaly working, it loads to a black screen then exits. I can not enter the game any more and I am afraid of losing my place at level 15.
Does anyone know a fix for this or a way I can really backup this game, so I can uninstall it and not lose my place ???
Thanks for any advice !!!
There was an update releases yesterday. Did you update?
Sent from my TITAN X310e using Board Express
Yea try updating it, either by waiting for the notification or by going to the game and hit update.

Yea, I ran the update and still the same problem
My Ants have not eaten in days, someone help !
Why did this happen ? Others have claimed this issue but, no result.
Does anyone know a fool proof way to backup/restore my save data so I can attempt to uninstall/reinstall ?
Depends on your phone model and firmware version. For Samsung or certain older HTC firmware, it's possible to back up the data.

Verizon HTC Trophy running 8107 (newest build)....Does that mean no ?
I said firmware, not OS build, but probably.
Are you able to interop-unlock your phone?

Yes, my phone is interop-unlocked. I am not fully unlocked due to having a CDMA based phone (no one really lets us play) and no one supports a full unlock on my phone
There are two apps you can try: TouchXplorer (on http://touchxperience.com) and HtcRoot Webserver (see my sig). Both can access the filesystem of HTC phones and let you move or back up files (backup is a little tricky with TouchXplorer but it can be done). You can also try using DiagProvXML if you know the path to the data you want to move/copy/whatever (it'll be under \Applications\Data\<GUID_OF_APP>\Data\IsolatedStore)
These apps use a variety of different hacks to access or modify the filesystem (provxml is currently write-only). Without knowing your firmware version, I can't tell you which ones will or will not work. Give it a shot, though...

Thanks for your help. TouchXplorer stopped working after Mango, it stopped working on Interop unlocked but, still works on Fully unlocked devices, as far as I know. I have it installed, it loads but, does not do anything beyond that, the Dev closed the discussion due to it not working any more.
I looked over your Webserver, I'm not a programmer so it's out of my skilset to make it into a installable file.
and sad to say, with 8107 firmware Connection Setup no longer works (error "Carrier not in Database"), so proXML is out too...
I am running stock Firmware, 2305.13.20110.605
Any other thoughts ?
Um, there's pre-compiled XAPs of the webserver attached to the thread...?
Mind you, if TouchXplorer isn't working for you, then HtcRoot won't either.

I wish there was a way to get TouchXplorer working, but, I didnt notice any pre-compiled ones in the thread, I'll try that.
Any other way ?
Look on the webserver thread, not the HtcRoot thread (there's a precompiled XAP on there too, but it's just a test app; doesn't *do* anything except check compatibility).
I've pretty much outlined all the viable options for you already. If none of them work, then... hope there's a fix released soon, or a better backup option? I don't know, I've never played the game, it sounds awfully Farmville-esque, so maybe waiting that long isn't an option...

I tried your webserver.... but, browsing the device just gives me a "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8007001F): A device attached to the system is not functioning. "
I saw a post by you saying it's not compatable (someone else had the same error)..
That is pretty cool tho (a web server on my phone, very cool)... I wish I could get my HTC Trophy fully unlocked so I can play with these cool tools....
The game was fun, kind of like you said, Farmville-esque, but, instead of spending real cash, you can just time go by, it was fun and I would play it one or 2 times a day to get my ants working and build up acorns (money in the game). After playing it 2 weeks, every day, 2-3 times a day, it died before I could get all the achivements. I just wanted to finsih the game..
I want to thank you for trying to help, I know there is only so much that is possable with my phone now but, thanks for trying
Even I have d same problem on my HTC radar and d black screen blocks d vision but d icons R visible & if I drop some food then the house did is visible otherwise only small areas are visible what to do

I have rebooted, Pulled the battery and everything else I could think of, It still does not work.
@DavidinCT: Off-topic, but there's a version of the WebServer (which my project was actually built on) that does not use HtcRoot or even interop-unlock. Aside from its own data folder though, the only place it can access is read-only for \Windows.

Interesting, I'll have to check it for the coolness factor. It does not help on my quest tho
On the subject of Bug Village, I am not the only one with this issue, if you look over the reviews in the marketplace, there is ton more with the same issue. I guess I can hold tight for an update, I guess...
Yeah, if it's a common issue, there are good odds the developer will fix it. If they don't, they won't get any more money from it...

[Q] How MIUI synchronize my privacy (how can this possible)?

Hello.
I didn't use MIUI, I don't know, since before of summer 2015. I am on custom roms, because I like them, and don't like MIUI. Most of past time (since summer), I was on Ressurection Remix LP, and didn't even experimentise with other custom roms.
Before couple of days, I soft bricked my phone, and I has to flash fastboot MIUI, and starting again. I didn't go to "flash_all.sh", I goes to " flash_all_except_data_storage.sh", but I think it doesn't matter for my story. After flashing, I booted into MIUI, with one and only intention - to enable USB debuging because rooting, flashing TWRP, and TWRP restore of my previous RR. So I power on my phone, skip every step in setup wizard, didn't sign in to Google acc or MIUI acc, even turned off MI sms. When system was up, my phone was autoconnected on my home wifi network with wpa2 encription, I has installed all mine apps which I used in past time on custom rom, and God know what else.
Note: I bought and install ADSL internet before 3-4 months (before that, I used neighbor's wifi), and last time used MIUI before about 9 months. My home network, modem, SSID and password didn't exist in time I used MIUI. I didn't sign in to any account when I start MIUI before couple of days.
How can this possible?
I think it restores the local backup.
EDIT: Wait. Did you say it restored the apps from "custom ROM"? That's impossibru without signing into google.
Yes, for God's sake, restored apps from custom rom, apps which I newer has installed on MIUI. Without sign in to Google, without sign in to MIUI, i was think to my self: WTF WTF WTF.
I forgot to mention: I offten clean my storage of junk files -- manually, via Root Explorer, folder per folder. I have no MIUI folders on my storage for long time (local backups, etc.).
It is most likely something in the kernel. This is part of the reason no developers will touch their devices and also why they have been banned in a few countries.

Unfortunately, I was also suspect on something of those "spy stories". Unfortunately, it seems they are true. It is a realy good hardware for cheep mpney, but I think never more will buy Xiaomi.

You have to remember that this is completely normal and legal in China where they are allowed to monitor everything people do on the Internet and firewall anything they don't like.
