Loving the new ICS from Android Revolution 6.0.2 - HTC Sensation

I just wanna share my experience of using the Android Revolution HD™ 6.0.2...
so far so good although at first when i flash the rom i was stuck at the bootloader because i thought the firmware can be flashed but it turn out that when you had already flash the rom you will have to go to hboot screen to update the firmware package but all in all i am very statisfied with this rom....
things that i liked-
-battery performance lasted a couple more hours longer... maybe because i flash the radio as well but i did see a little bit of difference..
-faster startup
-very user friendly interface
-so far after 5 days my phone had never crash even once
things that i dont like-
-i cant seem to open premium navigation for in htc locations after validating my licences... it always says htc location is stopping....
however i can use google location.... so for me this is good enough but if anyone has any solution do share it with me.... thx

Any random reboots or shutdowns?
Sent from my MIUI.us Sensation 4G using XDA App

Nice to know there are people satisfied as well. I see lots of trouble around, mostly with the new firmware/hboot.
I'll wait for the stable version though.

so far no random reboots or shutdown... yea people are having trouble with new firmware but once you start using ics its totally worth it your long hours of reading...

How easy for the firmware update? Did you have to change that text file within a zip?

the firmware update when i downloaded it was already in zip format... so i just place it in my sd card... so when you enter hboot screen it will automatically update...

Just had a random reboot using camera.
Gallery is very buggy as well as ringtones

hmm... did not occur in my sensation... probably u should try superswipe again... update firmware again... and flash boot...N try updating the radio as well.... gd luck... so far so good for me.. on my sixth day and rocking..

Q 2: My Premium Navigation doesn't work correctly. What should I do?
A: Your Premium Navigation may not work correctly for many reasons. Most of them are not ROM related. You can try the following things:
- reinstall your Locations under "Settings" ---> "Locations"
- remove /sdcard/.data/navigator/Data/Temporary from your SD card
- re-download Google Maps from the Android Market
- clear data from Google Maps in system software management

I'm actually really tempted to switch from 3.6.x to the ICS version. But I think I can wait a bit longer. Read in another thread that HTC's going to release their ICS in a couple of weeks.

Been using ARHD for a couple of months now and overall I am happy but now I am thinking of making the move to the ICS version of the rom and was wandering what the main benefits/difference are

With Sense? Sense is pretty much senseless with all the functionality of ICS. ICS core is about 120 MB and the sense ROMS are close to 400MB imagine how much faster your phone would run without Sense. Also any issues with contact merge?

Luv'n ICS and I'm on Virtuous 2.0.1 Senseless!

what you mean by "remove /sdcard/.data/navigator/Data/Temporary from your SD card".... should i delete this folder (temporary folder in data)...
"re-download Google Maps from the Android Market" i have search in android market there is no google maps app in there.... in the market it only has only "a google map navigation book"....
N wat do you mean by "clear data from Google Maps in system software management".... sorry i am not that clever.... thx in advance

I have the same problem too...
Still can not figure how to solve this....
Maybe i just go back to ARHD 3.6.12 until the ICS more stable...

Been using ARHD 6.0.2 for the whole weekend, and i must say that i'm loving it, just had one FC on whatsapp, other thant that is great. I have been all day long updating my spotify playlist in wifi and still remains more than 15% of the battery. Great job with the rom

I've had some occasional crashes and restarts, but otherwise I love it. Looking forward to the next release, and more importantly the next HTC leak.

I quote myself because i found something annoying, not serious, but was wondering if someone else had noticed it. It affects the power button, sometimes it does not work, i mean, if the phone is swithced off, when i press the button, nothing happens if i don't remove the battery and place it again. It also happens trying to wake the phone.
Maybe it has something to do with the Fastboot option?
Thanks again

i still havent manage to get my premium navigation to work... htc location map is working fine... what i mean is that if i open the normal htc map using the location it can open but when i change to driving mode it crashes... anyway manage to get papago to work for me after tweaking and playing with the resolution settings and the app called spare parts... anyway if anyone find any more solutions regarding htc location fix do tell me.. have tried tons of ways but still it keeps on crashing... amazingly the other features of my phone is working superbly fine... not even a single crash for more than one week... only once i have to reboot my phone when it could not connect to wifi after 3-4 days.... Not perfect but way better than gingerbread...

[ROM][32A RADIO 6.35]Eclair w/ Nexus1's 3D gallery CAM & most things are working well
this ROM is for Sapphire 32A SPL 1.76.2007 and latest Radio 6.35.07.29.
pure AOSP build, google bits and gallery are added. (make sure you think you have the rights for using the apps from google, i just make some copy for you)
thx: Cursordroid, Enomother, Cyanogen, RA, jnwhiteh, ChainsDD, sober (who have full of courage for testing my first kernel ) , and more...
what's new: less crash, more stable. new gallery app which use hardware accel. a new step to full working with our new radio.
the update.zip, just push it into ur sdcard then apply it from recovery: http://www.4shared.com/file/202007372/5352e8b4/my2x.html

if you are a 32A user with old radio, and you want a upgrade or try this ROM, follow Cursordroid's instruction to Update your 32A Magic to 6.35.07.29 Radio and 1.76.2007 SPL
working (update: all confirmed by me or other users):
camera
gps
wifi
mobile data
sensor
lights
gps
bluetooth
openGL
Gallery3D
googlebits
working but leaving some questions open:
playback (will print error message in log, not tested with many format)
not working properly:
camcorder (only preview working)
I would not say "it is very fast", but I feel it fast enough. and if you do not care about the multi-media things, i think this build seems not bad.
(for the multi-media things, they are mostly caused by media libs in AOSP, which google have not done yet. (but i cannot understand why nexus-one can have a stable version !!!) it is not all the HTC/Qualcomm's fault, Google didn't do their job very well too)
if there are something I missed, or I made some mistake, don't be sulkiness plz. i will fix them with you. let us make it better and make more 32A user switching to new Radio, with more users, we can do better and more quickly.
file/things includes:
AOSP master, I keep it at the API version 5, because things with API 7 for other devices (except nexus1) are not stable, i don't want to pretend that we have a nexus1, and make things unstable.
su and superusers from ChainsDD.
kernel which i modified from msm-kernel-2.6.29.
libhtc_ril.so, omx libs are from a leaked official 2.x ROM. camera libs, libgps.so from another one. (thanks the man who provided them)
libhtc_acoustic.so and some miscs files from official 1.5 ROM. akmd too, but akmd from 1.6 ROM have newer version and i think it will works too.
google bits are come from different sources too:
Gallery3D/google framework parts from nexusone dump, i think Enomther deodexed them, thank you and I LOVE YOU.
Other google's things are versions used everywhere, and here are my thanks to the one dumped them --> m(_ _)m.
cyanogen's patch which is directed towards infinite sync. it may be a temporary workaround, when google do things right, i will remove it.
.......
more: lock screen and wallpaper is the eclair's initial one as AOSP source released with them. if you want other lock screen, customize it yourself, and tell me how ^^, I'm really not a good cooker .
known issues and workaround:
1. camcorder can not record, but it didn't crash anything as previous one (with my kernel, from jnwhiteh) would crash some.
2. video playback has many errors the video can be played though. just reported by logcat, and no more thing will happen in my tests.
3. if you stay in the Gallery3D UI, and the phone sleeps later, when it wake up, the Gallery3D lost hardware acceleration. you can quit and enter this app again, it will be fine.
4. first boot with google bits may not go without a hitch. you can remove all google apps in the zip (you must resign it) and push them later.if you boot with googlebits:
you will see a dialog let you choose the default behavior, select SetupWizard here. if you select another, you can not use internet during the first boot, it will say "no connection", though we are connected.
the SetupWizard will start twice, the second one is for asking you to sign in a google account, you can just press menu to quit.
and there are many lags in first boot, maybe black screen (can not light, you can "adb reboot" it) or some crash (i have met once for each and I flash it serveral times) if you operate too fast.
after second boot, it will works fine. it seems if we give the phone more time to do many initialize jobs, it will work happily even in first run.
5. with superuser, if you select deny, the app which needed the permissions may be force closed. it is a bug in su sources i used which is not belong to me and i have no time to look and fix it yet.
update:
6. when wake up the phone, screen turned on, but backlight of screen not. if you can see image, just go to setting and set brightness, then the light will open. need more reports (like situation/logcat/dmesg, etc.) to locate the problem. i encountered this problem once.
7. "died in sleep", this problem has been encountered by others, personally, i met it once during first run, after a reboot I never met it again. but I don't think this problem just appears during first run. instead, i think the situation of first run is more closed to the condition triggering it.
I think there must be more problems, let us find them together, and fix them by our hands.
update: after some search I found that some softwares (like nettraffic) will cause more "died in sleep" in some ROM/kernel/Radio combination. and many kinds of "died in sleep" can be avoid with some tweaks, but i don't know if they are same problems as ours, and i can not get what this tweaks are (or why, how..) from anywhere yet.
i am waiting for more details to fix 6 & 7. I will be grateful if someone can provide some info about similar problems, since I had seen these problems in some other ROM/kernel/Radio combination.
and guys who encountered these problems, could you provide more details plz? something like: occurred during first run/other, with situation XX (mobile/wifi/software X running, etc) which you think it caused the problem occurred more often. if you can reproduce it, we will get very closed to fixing them.
great job!
Another ROM using the latest SPL/Radio... great!
Downloading now.. will try flashing later...
Nice work sanpei!
Great job. I will try it immediatly.
Excellent, nice to see some other developers working on this radio/SPL version as well!
I will definitely be trying this out today!
Awesome will try when I get home from work.
Would it be possible to implement the Nexus apps-menu in a later build?
bug report:
The screen remains black (can't see anything) after sleeping even if I press any of the buttons. I just removed the battery then reboot.
Aside from that, it's quite fast and responsive. The transitions are nice too. Keep it up dude!

I will look into this, but I cannot locate this problem quickly, since I just met it once during a first boot, and it never appears again.
is it like the situation "die in sleep" in some build which are based on CyanogenMod? (when i was using old radio)
can you reproduce the problem and description the operations? thx.

Newb questions
Hi Guys,
Sorry for the lame newb questions. I just want to verify this prior to trying this ROM.
I'm currently using CursorSense 1.0.1 - which is my every day ROM (great functionality, fast, does everything I need)
I'm really interested in trying out Android 2.1 - and seeing as this uses the same SPL / Radio - it means I should be able to just wipe and flash this one. HOwever seeing as I just want to take a peek and play around with it, I don't want to screw up everything on my phone toooo badly lol.
If I do a nand backup - wipe and flash this new ROM, when I'm done, can I do a wipe, then reflash the nandroid backup and everything will go back to the way I have it setup now?
Also will anything get screwed up on my SD card leaving it as it is flopping from one ROM to the other and then back (it's non partitioned, and loaded with misc folders created from my apps)
Thanks!
Gritten

Yes.. backup, wipe, flash, try, wipe, restore.. I even think that last wipe isn't even necessary, but it doesn't harm either. A Nandroid restore restores your phone exactly as you left it (incl. your call log, SMS, apps, etc.)
It could be that some new folders/files are created on your SD card (if required by Eclair apps), but since they are not used by your previous rom it won't be a problem (unless you don't want to keep those unused folders and files on your SD card).
If you are not sure, or don't want to keep the extra folders/files, you can always make a backup of your SD card on a USB or PC prior to trying the rom.
Have fun! ;-)

Yes. You can restore from nandroid backup and everything will go back. I often switch between CursorSense 0.4 and sanpei's rom several times a day.
so can anyone answer if this is a good everyday rom? or equivelant to cursor sense?

The ROM is well done. It's responsive (no lag from my playing) even the 3d gallery ran very well.
I didn't use it too long for everyday items as I'm a Sense fan, however I find that standard plain Android is pretty empty when I don't have my sense stuff on top lol.
Definately play around with it if you're interested.

Awesome ROM.
Keep UP dude!
Been testing it for a few hours. So far not a single FC and i can confirm that BT works just fine, also OBEX with Bluetooth File Transfer by medieval software.
SMS and emails send and get received just fine.
Tested the GPS in both google maps and the GPS status app to check efficiency, and so far everything works just fine.
The gallery is really sexy, now we just need to get the Nexus1 apps-menu implemented .
Actually there are three other things i'd like implemented also:
Animated desktop
Wireless tether
Google Nav
What do people think about that?

[Q] Any way to make things more simpler??

So I got the Nexus S, i9023, after spending a good amount of time trying to figure how to do the Root, CWR, ROM, I still can't get things to work properly.
My main issues with the Nexus are the camera while recording cause it sucks!, the media playback controls on the lock screen and the speed of the unit in general, I mean N4G.com feels as if the phone was using a browser from the middle ages!!!!
I've been going around the forums but is kinda hard to read along threads of 100 pages of posts, not a guide with straight answers, just for the steps I have managed to accomplish I had to use Youtube, Google and another 4 pages + these forums to make sense of what's first and then go on "trial & error" cause some of the steps have updates on different pages that others don't even mention.
So, I was able to Root, CWR and then install CM7, then I reverted to stock cause the Market is gone.....lovely....but is even better afterwards.....
So the phone works on the stock Android again, but now I can't make the phone to boot on recovery again so I can use the CWM options, I can't make RM to install or run anything, the phone will simply does nothing...and if I try on flashing the Clockworkmod recov then I get a "an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"........and I have SU installed.........
Btw, how do I install a kernel??? or flash the camera (if that's possible)....
Thx to any kind soul who could share it's own experience....
I recommend you do more reading and research before you flash anything. Cm7 does not come with market for legal reasons, you have to flash it separately. To flash a kernel you just download and flash it in recovery.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
In your current situation you need to use fastboot to reflash recovery and use recovery to reflash superuser.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
there is a one click root option which i keep on my desktop. way more than one click but i it does everything pretty much for u. try doing that.
Ns4g.com is bad because they have terribly coded flash content.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Hello all, thx for the replies, N4G can't be that bad since the issue repeats itself at other pages like cnn, espn or even worst if u try eltiempo.com (newspaper from Colombia), the last one lags horrible on pc using FF and doesn't even load as full page on the Nexus or my N8, that page is so badly designed that even the mobile version sucks (problem is the news back home are kinda best shown there....).
In any case, as I said before, "Trial & Error", I already have installed CM7, Liquid SR, Miui and Oxygen, loved Oxygen, kept Miui, Liquid is a nice idea but needs work and CM7 is a bit rough.
So far I've learned how to restore from an image of a previous ROM (kept my original backed up in case!!!), also how to reinstall SU in case I have to go back to stock, how to install a new kernel (thx to Google and not the Search in the forums!!!), I did also overclocked my NS to 1.2G and seems pretty stable.
Things I still don't like and will look in the future to solve are the issues with the camera, Miui fixes part of the issues with lag while recording, I got a snag during a test recording made today, also the controls are not that amazing for the camera, no Zoom???, and the Gallery is not a plain gallery but mainly a file browser which makes it confusing if u forget what folder ur supposed to check...
Also the issue with the battery not hitting 100%...kinda silly....
In all it's been good but the time spent is a pain, mainly cause there is no explanation about how to apply the files, what order, etc, is nice to find things here in XDA but is rather annoying to have to use Google to find things around...
Thx again for the replies!!!

{cm7 nightly} A few questions ....

Hi all,
this is my first post on xda altough I've been here quite a long time but havnt felt the need but finally the time has come;
Soo I finally got rid of my wildfire and got a g2x (didn't know that it wont get ics ) the first thing I did was flashed CWM and the latest cm7 nightly (20/5/2012)but I am a bit dissapointed with the software compatibility(or something like that) guess ill have to wait ...
Soo onto the problems:
(I couldn't find solutions to these in development and Q&A maybe bekuz of my poor searching )
1. Hd games (ones that need downloading after installing) start crashing after reboot (they show menus but crash during or before starting the actual game)
2.phone heats up while charging and battery lasts only half a day
3.flash videos (not on youtube or other major sites) don't run
4.app menu isn't smooth
5. battery level dosent update itself sometimes and changes +- 20% after reboot
That's all I can remember for now ...
I would appreciate if any 1 can share a possible solution or tell me the cause of these problems.
And I would like to thank all the awesome devs on xda!! You guys are amazing and make the world a better place!!
I'm sry if I posted in the wrong section or repeated a question or something if I did plz inform me and ill move the post to a appropriate place
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
all signs point to bad flash
1.I've played games and many other s play some of the most extreme 3d games on this phone without issue.
2. Go to settings>applications>development>click stay awake so it has a check mark, if no that then try to use some custom kernels with some tweaking and setting up profiles with a CPU controller.
3. Did you download adobe flash player app? Mine works no issues.
4. Again, mine is fine, try a different launcher, I've come to find that ADW is well kinda plain and slow without a theme and then with a theme it is still just slow to me.
5. That seems like a bad flash error again.
So go to recovery via reboot option or power off and volume down and power til you see the second logo and wipe data factory reset, and then for safe measure go to mounts and storage and wipe data, system, and cache. then install CM7 and then 08/28 gapps, from there a simple boot up and you shouldn't have these problems if you do then you have bad phone or a bad download.
Tnx alot for the reply and yeah dunno why but O/C settings are not working too tryed to flash a kernel and phone stopped booting dosent cm7 hav O/C supporting kernel...
Next: for videos first I installed flash player 11 but later I tried 10.3 and it was working better and I'm using adw launcher ex
I'm gonna try a different rom this time any sujjestions??
Edit:I havnt done any baseband crap .. is that related in any way??

Sense 3.6 Locations Problem

First sorry about my bad english. I installed ICE DS v5 sense 3.6. When I try to enter locations it says files are old or missing and when I try to download it says "can't connecting to server" again and again. What can I do?
Stop using location and use Google navigation? I find it much better

I can't answer 'Why', but I don't think that my HTC locations has ever worked since the first day I installed a custom ROM (over a year ago). To be honest, take Ben's advice. Google Maps puts everything else in the shade - and it's free. I haven't yet seen a paid app that can match it.
For me locations have worked on custom roms and the latest HTC but have stopped with this ICE DS v5.0. I have just uninstalled locations to free up ROM space and use Googles Maps.
Mine work too since ICE DS v5. I think there is nothing to do so I can remove it. Thank you for replies guys

Don't use Evoking 1.8 it's not stable, wait for Evoking v1.9 will come out on 09/05/2013...
Use Evoking 1.7 for daily use...
And about your problem...
I never flash newer version of same ROM without making full wipe because of issues like that -_-
Something went wrong during upgrade and your system is probably messed up...
Make a clean flash + gapps and everything should be working fine, I know since I tried all Evoking versions after 1.6...
And next time post in thread since there is no discussion thread, your Q will be more likely to be answered there

in mobile data's setting, why the android os need a big backgroud connection? in one week they need more than 500mb. did you know about this issue?
The android os by itself does not need any background data connection for functioning. You must have kept 'auto update' on for apps in the Google play, or used data for upload/download heavy files like video.

If you did, @pmvyas is right and you know where the heavy data usage came from, must be the auto-update or something...
check this month to compare if it will do the same..

@pmvyas no, I never activate auto update to each apps, and OTA app in my device already disabled. But when I go to setting - data usage, there an item android os in the top of the list with big number of data
Strange. Do you sync with drop box or any other cloud services? Or tried to update rom OTA ? Re-check google sync or auto update of apps in g play. Can't think of anything else at the moment.

google sync? need big connection sync?
No. Just trying to eliminate causes of background data usage.

(We can tell you then where and what to check..)

There is only one item in the top of data usage list
Android OS -------- 530Mb
Plume ---------------- 14Mb
etc.
there is an problem with os data usage if you did a factory reset or reseting something, anything saved on google server when you log in will be restored, but that is an 1 day usage at the moment when you log into google, by default, when you had buyed this phone and turn it on first time it was set to backup data to google, so maybe this might be the problem
another problem is if you do alot of thettering, it will increase data usage
some carriers have 3g throttle, mobile data have increased usage, because carriers earn alot from increasing data usage, they benefit, we loose
now some questions:
- do you have battery drain ?
- do you have alot of wakeloks ?
- dou you close from app setings your browser or email app and not letting them run in backround ?
googleling a little I found that this is an ICS problem related to Google backup setting turned on eating alot of data, goto settings, scroll down to backup and reset, uncheck everything
goto settings and check updates only over wi-fi, do not leave mobile data turned on allways, only when is needed, limit it in data usage settings, restrict the background data, restrict some things in account syncing, adds eat alot data(try to install an app for bloking them)
there are many possibilitis, experiment them and give a feedback
OR THE BEST THING IS TO WAIT FOR EVOKING 1.9, JB doesn't have any issues about data drain

thanks for your information bro.
my battery life is about 11-14 hours for normal usage.
I do uncheck all app that running in background including auto-syinc, auto-backup, apps notifications, emails etc.
oh I forget, in the data usage lists, there are two items with big data usage. android os and thettering. they running separately.
I confused with evoking 1.6 and now I flashed my HH to another cust rom while waiting for evoking 1.9 launch. I hope it better than previouse version
Don't use Evoking 1.8 it's not stable

Use Evoking 1.7 for daily use...
And about your problem...
I never flash newer version of same ROM without making full wipe because of issues like that -_-
Something went wrong during upgrade and your system is probably messed up...
Make a clean flash + gapps and everything should be working fine, I know since I tried all Evoking versions after 1.6...
And next time post in thread since there is no discussion thread, your Q will be more likely to be answered there

To my shocking surprise and astonishment, your saying not to use EvoKing 1.8. Well, I just flashed it and I sure would like to know what is unstable about it. Seems fine to me, although I cannot access some settings, and I have to reboot after I install some apps. I'm using SuperCharger & DATA to SD EXT and I was considering using KickAss Kernel.
Seems very stable to me, but it is a fresh install!!!
