Update HBoot ? - HTC Desire S

Hi everyone,
I'm currently under Cyanogen stable release, with hboot 0.98.0000. My phone was S-OFF using AlpharevX beta tool 3 or 4 month ago I guess. The problem is that my Desire S reboots regularly for no reason. I red somewhere that hboot 0.98.0002 may correct that issue. Is that true ? Or should I wipe all my datas and do a "proper" new install of CyanogenMod ? I wiped my phone one time for the first install of superkid beta, but never again, I've just been pilling up every new version.
And finally, if 0.98.0002 fix that issue, how is it possible to install it ? Do I have to get back to sense and S-ON my phone ? How ?
Thank you,
KennyG9

I'm slightly confused as if you S-OFF'd with AlpharevX then you should really have the 6.xx.xxxx HBOOT What else have you done since then?
Rather than play around with your HBOOT's I'd try a clean install first - I'd suggest formatting of data/system/cache/boot through a wipe script and then perform a complete re-install of the latest ROM)
Although I'd say that the best HBOOT for you to be on would be ENG HBOOT 0.98.2000.

Yes ! That seems to be the best solution finally . Do you know any tool that can help me to format / wipe without loosing all my downloads from market / personal .apks / Musics on SD Card ?

Sorry, I don't understand 100% what you mean there, do you mean that you have HBOOT = 6.xx.xxxx or not?
You can save APK's with various file manager tools but without doubt the most used and easiest way to enable the backup and re-install of all of your APK's would be pay for titanium backup tool....this tools enable batch backup and restores.
Any custom recovery whether CWM (clockworkmod) or 4EXT (which I recommend) will enable you to format the partitions as described. You will find links to both of these in the RECOVERY section of the INDEX thread.
You will also find links to HBOOT in the INDEX thread.

[Q] SagaS HTC Europe 2.10.401.5 update fail

Few days ago I receive new OTA update 2.10.401.5 on my HTC DESIRE S Europe.
But, after i download the update and continue to install the update after the update finished my device stack at the boot splash screen. my HBOOT version is still 6.98.1002. I don't know what could be the problem? I revert it to the old 1.47.401.4 software version via RUU, but I really don't know why the update failed?
Will somebody please answer my question?
another one??
Jesus Christ...could be problem because ur s-off or maybe htc screwed something ..but cache must be cleaned before reboot thats for sure
You use stock ROM before install the new one?

I think it's S-OFF. Because the latest updates request/demands for you to have HBOOT 2.xx.xx for it to work?
that's revolutionary hboot.
ota update need at least hboot 0.98.2000.
Meanwhile in this thread ...
OP tries to install official firmware on his security off'd phone, what a moron.
You need the official hboot (not s-off, not rooted, STOCK, 2.00.0002) to ensure the OTA works properly (it will of course work without it, but when we tried, certain aspects of the ROM didn't work correctly).
ifelse( is_ship_bootloader(getprop("ro.bootloader")) == "t" , < More ways to laugh at OP.
I solve the problem!

Big thanks to u guys.
I was using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1187231
I had to S-ON back again and after that perform the update.
It's because the HBOOT version is 6..89.*** and it need to be 0.98.0000 or something.
Trust me! It was fully working for me.
Now I have the new stock 2.3.5 rom on my DS with sense 3.0
There one other problem. I couldn't find any tolls which can gain S-OFF on the new HBOOT 2.*****
So at this stage you can't gain root on mine and your DS with the new ROM.

No S-OFF for that version of hboot. but you can still unlock it to flash customer roms, recovery. radio wouldn't update on mine.

[Q] Problem gaining s-off for Sensation

I've recently bought a new Sensation. I wnat to S-off in order to root it. My problem is that at revolutionairy.io I can't seem to find the possibility to choose my hboot version, 1.27.0000 how can I S-off then...? is this due to the fact that I updated to ICS with everything that followes.?

Hi,
Yes,when updating OTA seems to put 1.27.0000 on your phone.
There is currently no revolutionary support for 1.27.0000
But we are told that it may be arriving soon.
Yes, that is the reason. You should have s-off before upgrading to ICS. What you can do is to extract a ROM from a GB RUU rename it PG58IMG and flash it from bootloader.
It will bring you back to GB and can use revolutionary to s-off, then upgrdade again to ICS.
Thanks alot guys. Think I will wait for that update from the Revolutionairy team though.
Next thing
Just to ask again. Is the only way to S-off and thereby root to do as kualmente posted?

Actually Revolutionary doesn't support Hboot 1.27 then you cannot use it to s-off.
As said before you can try flashing from bootloader a GB Rom in PG58IMG form and see if it works. If it works (not sure 100% because you are s-on) you will be back to GB with Hboot 1.18 which is supported by revolutionary to s-off.
Try and let me know download. Simply rename it PG58IMG and put on the root of your sd card. Then reboot bootloader while pressing volume down + power button. Follow instruction on screen.
When completed and rebooted, delete PG58IMG from sd card.
Hope it works.
P.S. file is still uploading

It won't work anyway. You are s-on and cannot downgrade. You have to wait until hboot 1.27 is supported by revolutionary or the rumored (but completely unproven) new s-off method with the ridiculous name.

Did you try what I suggested in my post #6?
There is no risk to brick. Worst scenario it will fail to update because you are s-on.
Best scenario you will downgrade to GB and proceed to s-off with revolutionary.
At the end this is an official RUU released by HTC and then it cannot be harmful to give a try

Is it this you are referring to? [SOFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF internal testing - HTC Sensation (and XE) 1.23, 1.27 HBoots
hi,
I'm a true noob when it comes to root though i am still trying to do it so i can change this bad asian sensation xe stock ICS Rom.
I updated without knowing I should s-off first
now i understand that i have a few options like waiting for a team to release a hack, or through htcDev but i want to try what kualmente wrote
my problem is that the download link he posted is bad
but i have an official RUU that i downloaded before "RUU_Pyramid_LE_hTC_Asia_TW_1.73.709.4_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_221625_signed.exe"
I want to know if it is possible to downgrade HBOOT with this and use revolutionary method for s-off?
My file is not bad at all. It is just in PG58IMG format so it can be flashed from the bootloader (running a RUU.exe would give error).
You have a sensation Xe and of course you need a different RUU. Try to find out the way to extract "rom.zip" from the RUU, rename it PG58IMG and flash it from bootloader.
As said before, not sure 100% if it works because of s-on
By the way HtcDev doesn't s-off but just unlock bootloader.
First thanks for answering

how do you do that???
And i think i got the right version because before i updated to ICS i updated to 1.77 via OTA and in the zip file it rights the preious version and it is written there "1.73.709.4 CL177617 release-keys" same as the RUU that i have.
UPDATE: got the rom.zip from my RUU and renamed it. now how do i use it? and what will happen to my phone afterwards? will it be like a factory restore?

Before you start I repeat: I'm not 100% sure it will work because you are S-On.
1) Rename the rom zip in "PG58IMG" and put in the root of sd card (not inside a folder).
2) Untick fastboot from Settings -Power
3) Pull out and reinsert battery.
4) Power on the phone while pressing volume down + power button to reboot into bootloader.
5) when prompted "do you want to update?" say yes by pressing volume up.
6) If it works, will do its things (it takes a while and screen may goes black a couple of times) just dont do anything and wait untill completed.
7) when completed push power button to reboot.
8) Delete PG58IMG from sd card.
Of course you will lose all data and apps unless you make a backup.
just tried and got
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
it didn't even ask me if to update or not
any other idea?
i did what you wrote
is there a different version i could try?
I've tried almost everything on the forums, there is no way you will be able to downgrade your 1.27 bootloader. We vill have to wait for someone to hack this loader, before we will be able to try custom roms.

[HBOOT] | 29-05-2012 | 7.00.1002 | Reengineered 2.00.002

Ok guys too many people having issues with new rom sense 4 not booting up...
So here is a renegineered hboot 2.00.002...
After this all roms including all sense4 versions and even russian roms will work with no issues...
Old roms will continue to work as well with no problems
This should be used only by people having hboot starting with 6.98...
People with hboot 2.00.002 don't need this...
People with hboot starting with 0.98 can either flash 2.00.002 or this hboot...
Steps :
1. Download attachment and copy to root of sd card (i.e not inside any folder)
2. Reboot into bootloader
3. Select bootloader
4. The attachment will be auto detected and updated within 5-7 sec max.
5. Now go to recovery again select format all partitions except sd card if you dont want to flash a new rom else wipe cache and dalvik cache if you wnat to just update hboot and continue with old rom (Remember next time you flash a new rom select format all partitions except sd card from recovery).
* Formatting all partitions except sd card from recovery is recommended after hboot upgrade !
6. Don't forget to delete the attachment from the sd card.
7. Done
Tested well and works perfect !
Also fastboot commands work except for the 1 to change id...everything else works as it should and you can always revert back with no issues

Could you please explain what the issues and differences are?

Well, i tried to flash the full Sense 4 port for 3 hours yesterday, but it always led to a black screen, since the system partition got filled up and the updater-script was trying to mount the lib partition, which wasn't there. This fixes these errors by adding a lib partition. It will be a problem in all future ROMs, so I'm flashing this now....
And what will be the advantage of this over the 2.00.2002 one? Besides the flashing procedure which was by adv for the eng 2.0.2002
Sent from my HTC Desire S
I will try it.
Does it can be helpful with Google Maps compass?
My Google Maps compass didn't work on all Android4.0 roms....;'(
I tried this Hboot, but i ran into troubles.
First of all the phone rings before it goes into the bootloader... never happend.
When i start the rom, the same.
The cam is also broken. The cam pic looks wierd...
Maybe I done something wrong?
Edit:

Everything works fine again.

if people remove the lines in updater-script to flash files to /system/lib partiton, and remove in the boot.img > init.rc the lines to mount lib partition there's actually no need to upgrade your HBOOT. you'll even ruin your camera pictures... Lol i really need to downgrade my hboot but cant really find a good tutorial
if you flash SenseMOD FlashONE and use the F1 kernel located on our website, you wont have any problems with older HBOOTs

[SOLVED] How to flash ENG bootloader

I just got my HTC Desire S a week ago and am looking at taking S-OFF and rooting. I want to remove all the unnecessary apps and install root-only apps.
I've read most of the guides and tutorials, so am I correct in saying that all I need to do is S-OFF with Revolutionary and then root with SuperOneClick? (I am not flashing a custom ROM for the time being.)
However, I noticed the following the development index:

Oke your S=off, you got recovery (and superuser? you need it).
Forget the the story in the quote because its not compleet.
If you want to learn more about Hboot, Radio, ROM etc and how to flash/install it
read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186401
and if you want more info mostly you can find it in other treats and topics.
It's not necessary to flash a ENG bootloader. Some say that not all busybox and SDK commands
work with SHIP bootloaders. If've run a SHIP bootloader my self and could use all the busybox
and SDK commands.
To place or remove software from the root you need a explorer with root acces. The one I use
is X-plore (play store) its free. First always make an nandroid backup in case!
Good luck

I'm putting off installing custom roms for the time being - my phone is only a week old and I'm afraid of bricking it.

The risk comes during the processes you have already carried out - getting S-Off and root. Installing a custom ROM now is simple and doesn't really carry any risk at all. Just take a Nandroid backup of your default ROM before doing anything else.
If there isn't any risk from installing a custom rom then I don't see why not to.
I have completed a Nandroid backup and have copied it to the computer as well and will be installing a custom rom.
Is it necessary to flash radios at any time when installing different roms?

The normal recommendation is only to flash a new radio if you are having problems with the existing one. Some ROMs do have a "preferred radio" listed, but that is usually because that is the radio that the Dev has tested on.
Will this method work fine to install a custom rom and is there anything else I should know that isn't mentioned here?

Should be fine looking at it. I much prefer 4EXT as a recovery - touch input and everything - but the basic premise is the same. Wipe everything, flash ROM from .zip file, flash correct GApps (if not included), boot, wait, play ...

[Q] Hboot/Firmware update 2.15 to 2.16 et al.

I tried to find a comprehensive thread about getting 2.16 on my TMO Ville, unfortunately I may not be searching using the correct keywords.
Current setting:
Unlocked and Tampered
S-Off (I used facepalm when I did it a while back )
SuperCID after S-Off
Hboot: 2.15.0000
Radio: 1.15.50.05.29_10.30.50.08L
ROM: Carbon JB Unofficial 20130912-0352
Recovery: TWRP 2.6.3.0
My reasons for looking to update are as follows:
I get constant bootloops mostly when I'm driving (maybe from having to switch cellsites) - I've tried different builds and radios but nothing really did completely resolved my issue, my current setup is as close to stable/usable that I can manage for this phone.
Also when my phone locks up, I must reboot to recovery first and perform either fix permissions or cache and dalvik-cache wipes to boot into usable phone state.
My questions are:
Would updating help fix my issue?
Where and what RUU would I need, which guide should I follow?
I understand that the 2.16 Hboot repartitions the storage, maybe that will help?
If I update to 2.16, do I lose S-Off and SuperCID? Can I redo them? Do I need to lock my Bootloader?
Sorry for the long post. If my questions have been asked and answered before, please guide me towards the correct threads.
I don't mind losing data but I do not want to brick my phone. Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays.
anyone?

I have the same device and am on 2.16. I went from 2.15 like you now have and am using CM11 (for 2.16). The only issues (that I have seen so far) the device has are the backlight bug and TWRP is not seeing all of the internal storage correctly. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584297
I have used CWM to back it up, although I have not tested the back up. It did not throw any errors when I did it.
I also have S-Off and SuperCID 1111111. I lost neither when I went from 2.15 to 2.16.
I wish I could offer more answers to your questions.

Thanks! I got impatient and installed the 1.20 radio and TWRP with sel mod. I'm on 4.4.2 SlimROM had one reboot yesterday and between reboots and the backlight bug, I can live with the backlight bug.

I lost patience also. I went back to Hboot 2.15 to get updates on CM11.

Exactly how can I upgrade to hboot 2.16? You have a guide, because I want to update now as twistedkat will only support hboot 2.15 temporarily. Its my favorite rom!

Search for the thread that has the modified and original Hboot files, download the 2.15 of your choice and I used "Firmware Flasher" to flash the firmware. If you are unable to locate the files, feel free to send a PM and I can Email them to you.

The modded 2.15 is what I used. The modded does not have the red HTC warning message.
