Ok guys too many people having issues with new rom sense 4 not booting up...
So here is a renegineered hboot 2.00.002...
After this all roms including all sense4 versions and even russian roms will work with no issues...
Old roms will continue to work as well with no problems
This should be used only by people having hboot starting with 6.98...
People with hboot 2.00.002 don't need this...
People with hboot starting with 0.98 can either flash 2.00.002 or this hboot...
Steps :
1. Download attachment and copy to root of sd card (i.e not inside any folder)
2. Reboot into bootloader
3. Select bootloader
4. The attachment will be auto detected and updated within 5-7 sec max.
5. Now go to recovery again select format all partitions except sd card if you dont want to flash a new rom else wipe cache and dalvik cache if you wnat to just update hboot and continue with old rom (Remember next time you flash a new rom select format all partitions except sd card from recovery).
* Formatting all partitions except sd card from recovery is recommended after hboot upgrade !
6. Don't forget to delete the attachment from the sd card.
7. Done
Tested well and works perfect !
Also fastboot commands work except for the 1 to change id...everything else works as it should and you can always revert back with no issues

Why don't you post how to revert to old hboot and S-on (in case is needed)...that will be a usefull post
I'll do it now One question - does this give you Eng S-OFF too??
Edit: vampire36, just noticed something - we both joined xda on the same day Not that it means anything at all, just an interesting detail.

Okies will look into it...and will need to test the method before posting
But will do something about it
Could you please explain what the issues and differences are?
Is this to do with system.lib?
Thanks in advance
Swyped from my DesireS
Well, i tried to flash the full Sense 4 port for 3 hours yesterday, but it always led to a black screen, since the system partition got filled up and the updater-script was trying to mount the lib partition, which wasn't there. This fixes these errors by adding a lib partition. It will be a problem in all future ROMs, so I'm flashing this now....
And what will be the advantage of this over the 2.00.2002 one? Besides the flashing procedure which was by adv for the eng 2.0.2002
Sent from my HTC Desire S
I will try it.
Does it can be helpful with Google Maps compass?
My Google Maps compass didn't work on all Android4.0 roms....;'(
I tried this Hboot, but i ran into troubles.
First of all the phone rings before it goes into the bootloader... never happend.
When i start the rom, the same.
The cam is also broken. The cam pic looks wierd...
Maybe I done something wrong?
Edit:
Now I went back to this one:
PG88IMG-OLD-RADIO-20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11
Everything works fine again.

I guess shrome answered it...though we can always change the updater script but it will be a pain to do each time...So this way you don't have to worry about it...partition is added and ics roms i guess will go this way...

These are rom issues due to new partition and nothing to do with hboot...you can just do a clean install of the rom...and then check
As i have said do foramt all partition except sd card and then flash the rom...all will be well
Is this an updated of the eng 2.00.2002?
Or it s older

Before I clean my phone again, what will be the benefits with this new hboot?
if people remove the lines in updater-script to flash files to /system/lib partiton, and remove in the boot.img > init.rc the lines to mount lib partition there's actually no need to upgrade your HBOOT. you'll even ruin your camera pictures... Lol i really need to downgrade my hboot but cant really find a good tutorial
if you flash SenseMOD FlashONE and use the F1 kernel located on our website, you wont have any problems with older HBOOTs

Your confusing thats the older radio not hboot...
hboot and radio are different...radio that you flashed will have affect on the network...not camera pictures
hboot affect the system partition schema
Check your hboot version by rebooting into recovery...if the zip has no parts of hboot...it will still be v7

Hi everyone,
I'm currently under Cyanogen stable release, with hboot 0.98.0000. My phone was S-OFF using AlpharevX beta tool 3 or 4 month ago I guess. The problem is that my Desire S reboots regularly for no reason. I red somewhere that hboot 0.98.0002 may correct that issue. Is that true ? Or should I wipe all my datas and do a "proper" new install of CyanogenMod ? I wiped my phone one time for the first install of superkid beta, but never again, I've just been pilling up every new version.
And finally, if 0.98.0002 fix that issue, how is it possible to install it ? Do I have to get back to sense and S-ON my phone ? How ?
Thank you,
KennyG9

I'm slightly confused as if you S-OFF'd with AlpharevX then you should really have the 6.xx.xxxx HBOOT What else have you done since then?
Rather than play around with your HBOOT's I'd try a clean install first - I'd suggest formatting of data/system/cache/boot through a wipe script and then perform a complete re-install of the latest ROM)
Although I'd say that the best HBOOT for you to be on would be ENG HBOOT 0.98.2000.

Sorry, I don't understand 100% what you mean there, do you mean that you have HBOOT = 6.xx.xxxx or not?
You can save APK's with various file manager tools but without doubt the most used and easiest way to enable the backup and re-install of all of your APK's would be pay for titanium backup tool....this tools enable batch backup and restores.
Any custom recovery whether CWM (clockworkmod) or 4EXT (which I recommend) will enable you to format the partitions as described. You will find links to both of these in the RECOVERY section of the INDEX thread.
You will also find links to HBOOT in the INDEX thread.
Hey ,
ok.. everything went fine Now my Desire S is S-off'ed and is rooted
(a big thanx to all who helped me here )
Now, I have a few questions before flashing the ENG HBOOT & installing the touch recovery (4EXT):
- Which zip file version of ENG HBOOT should I flash?
Got 2 zip files here: one of them is named "PG88IMG(ENG 0.98.2000)" and is having "engHBOOToverARX.img" named IMG file.
Other one is named "PG88IMG" and is having "hboot_0.98.0000_361a7ba6_0310.img" named IMG file.
I checked their size and MD5; size is same but their MD5 hashes are different.
Please suggest, which one to go for? Or should I flash a newer version of ENG HBOOT? the 2.00.xxx ? Which ones better? :|
- Flashing this ENG HBOOT is it equivalent to flashing a new radio?
-Will I need to format any partitions, cache,...anything? I am not going to install any custom ROM for now, so I need my applications and their data..everything intact (just being noob here )
--
UPDATE:
I have successfully installed 4EXT recovery but when I check my filesystem info it says that except the SD Card all of my partitions are already ext4! is that possible? i din't converted them. by default all phone partitions as EXT4? wow :O and my SD Card is shown as fat32 partition (its ok).
Anyways.. :|
--
- I am thinking to install the 4EXT touch recovery, found it comfortable instead of pressing volume/power keys again and again. (and offcourse donate to the dev; great job there..keep it coming! )
- Do I need to convert to EXT4 partition type? How can I check my existing partition type? well of which partition are we talking about here?..the internal memory or the SD card partition type? noob*
- Can somebody give me some short steps of how to install 4EXT without bricking my phone..as I am worried a bit now to move forward

If you've used revolutionary, you're Hboot should now be RVL v6.98.1000?
The engHBOOToverARX is a modified v0.98 bootloader, which *pretends* to be v6.98.2000. This allows you to overflash the RVL hboot. The easiest method is to use fastboot.
To flash, extract the file on your computer to get the xxxxx.img. Boot into Fastboot mode (Vol- and power), click fastboot, plug in USB cable. and type the code:
Code:
fastboot flash hboot xxxxx.img
This should take like a second or less. Reboot into hboot to check.
Alternatively you can use the hboot update interface by placing the P88IMG.zip file on SD card, and when you boot into hboot it will ask you whether you want to update (click yes obviously). I personally don't like this method as people tend to forget to delete the .zip file and may be at risk of repeatedly flashing your hboot.
I don't know whether flashing v0.98 or v2.00 straight without going through v6.98.2000 would work? Try it?
the ENG v0.98 should work with most ROMs. I think v2.00 is only needed for some newer ROMs which require a /data/lib partition (better search round for which ROMs need it).
Tbh, never found any problems with v0.98, so I've stuck to it ever since I first rooted it. Don't think there is any real life benefits of one over the other (except obviously if your ROM doesn't work with v0.98).

Yes and no. It's similar that radio updates can also be applied via fastboot or the hboot PG88IMG.zip interface...
But effectively you're flashing different things. BOTH GIVES YOU RISK OF BRICKING YOUR PHONE. So the tip is if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Generally its a good idea to at least wipe the partition if you've messed with hboot. So its a good idea to backup before you mess around with your phone.
THis can be done through 4EXT easily. (the wipe/format settings)

Well, ext4 isn't strictly necessary... your phone will work on ext3, but if you've heard about the infamous Desire S eMMC problem, then ext4 gives you a little more protection.
(the problem I think is that on overloading the cache partition, say updating all market apps, the phone hangs... people intuitively do a battery pull which corrupts the /cache partition. There is a small risk of frying your memory if you quickly reinsert your battery back after you've battery pulled it, so its generally advised to wait 10 seconds after battery pull before putting battery back in.)
Ext4 supports write-back journaling so should be less susceptible to this...
to convert to ext4, use 4EXT convert tools (NOT wipe/format!)

Download the .apk file and install. You need to be rooted and S-OFF'd. It will then ask you to update, click yes. Then install the latest version (1.005 RC3?)

and thx for clearing up my 4EXT doubt (so i am assuming that for 4EXT I don't have to re-format my partition(s)..simply install, convert partitions to ext4 and voila! )
the eMMC fried chip prob? yep..I saw that somewhere around here in forums :O *shrugs*

Looks the RVL v6.98 hboot is bypassing (aka blocking) hboot flashes.
Did you try the fastboot method?
Try flashing the ENGHBOOToverARX.img first.
You should get hboot v0.98.2000? (just ignore it, as it is 0.98.xxxx in reality)
After you've done that. Flash ENG 0.98.xxxx

Yes, sorry, my brain isn't functioning today...
The reason why you're 'bypassing' is that when you flash using the PG88IMG method, your hboot will detect / compare the version numbers.
As RVL 6.98.1002 (despite being 0.98 in disguise) is greater than 0.98.xxxx, it will not flash it.
the EngHBOOToverARX.img has version number 6.98.2000, which allows you to overflash the RVL 6.98.1002. This version I think also allows 'downgrade' flashing, so you can revert back to ENG 0.98.xxxx

Fastboot it?
0. Delete the PG88IMG.zip file to stop it causing you trouble.
1. Extract the .img file from the .zip file (so you get the engHBOOToverARX.img)
2. Plug phone to computer and get phone into FASTBOOT USB mode, get to hboot (vol- + power), then scroll to fastboot, it should say fastboot usb.
3. Get the android sdk tools.
4. Use the command line type:
Code:
fastboot flash hboot engHBOOToverARX.img
[\code]
whatever that .img file is called.
5. See the result? (if successful, you should get v6.98.2xxx)
6. Install ENG 0.98.xxxx the same way.

6. Install ENG 0.98.xxxx the same way.[/QUOTE]
excuse me :P
can i still do this if i already installed custom rom

Hi
I'm in some sort of a probleme here...
I flash CM10 for the Ville by xkonni & intervigil everything went good ... Than I tried to go back to my nandroid backup that I did before but them the phone would be stuck a the htc one s and beats logo. I somehow manage to get almost everyting to work but , even with the bootloader re-lock and the original rom and file from my nandroid I cant restore everything using the RUU from my phone ( Rogers/fido ) . The thing is, if I look in the log from the RUU install it says : remote: 44 hboot version check fail
Any clue how to restore the original HBOOT ?
!!!!
U need use adb and flash the stock boot.img

That does not change the HBOOT I look at that solution
I don't think you can do anything to the hboot w/o s-off
hboot and boot.img not the same
So, I doubt CM10 would have messed with it
But, it is very experimental--I have been doing this a long time and wouldn't touch CM10 yet--you are braver than me--
Did you wipe ALL including System 2 to 3x before trying nandroid--System would have to be wiped in this case or issues highly likely

Is there a technical explanation for the reasons multiple wipes will accomplish more than a single wipe?
In normal cases only official stock HTC RUU's will change your hboot/bootloader. So flash the appropriate RUU with the hboot you had before, first. If you was on software base 1.78 for example, flash the 1.78 RUU and you will have the right hboot.

This is the log from the RUU.
<T212848><DEBUG><OUT>INFOchecking hboot version...</OUT>
</DEBUG></T212848>
<T212848><DEBUG><OUT>FAILED (remote: 44 hboot version check fail)</OUT>
</DEBUG></T212848>
The orignal Hboot from my provider is 1.08 ( And RUU)
but I check in the rom that I use to flash CM 10 and I cant see any trace of a new HBOOT
so... Where did I get hupdated from 1.08 to 1.13 ?
Because as far as system partition is concerned the wipe does not totally get rid of all files and some stuff can be left behind. Also, installing the new Rom may not overwrite all of the partition. It can cause issues with the new Rom running well. With my N1 even some devs recommended 3 to 4 wipes. System wipe is recommended if going to different Rom or changing basebands. Definitely with coming from CM to Sense.
wiping or formatting a partition multiple times and getting any benefit from that sounds like urban legend
I've seen it recommended by numerous people but there's not any reason to think wiping a partition two times or three times is going to be more effective than one time.
Although if there's a technical explanation I'll hear it out...but stating that formatting a partition one time simply doesn't get it all gone or someone heard it from somewhere else doesn't suffice as enough evidence for me.
hey there. Just another noob question:
How can I find out what radio am I using? Can I flash the PG zip archive in recovery just like I flash the kernel? If so, do I always need to do that when I install roms? Is the radio included in the rom? I think of it as like firmware or recovery, you have to flash the lastest when it was released and that's about it, it does not get wiped when you go to format all parititions, right?
How about firmware? Can I flash this too in recovery? Thx.
To flash firmware you place the pg58img file at the root of sd card , then you boot into bootloader by pulling battery putting battery back in press volume and power at the same time, it will recognise the update and ask to continue press power for yes, let it update them REMOVE the pg58img file from your card or it will continuously try to update the file! I remove mine by pulling the sd card and put in a card reader and delete the file. Delete it how ever you want just make sure you delete it ok. Then your done. That's how you install firmware. Hope I helped.

Hi,
To check radio, go to:
Settings/ about phone/ software information/ more/ baseband version.
Radio gets installed with the firmware.
It does not need to be flashed with every ROM.
Yes, it gets flashed in recovery.
It does not get wiped when you wipe the partitions.
Be very careful when flashing radio or firmware.
Always check the md5 checksum
If you flash the wrong one, or a bad one, it will brick your phone.
So i can flash firmware in 4ext right? If it is wrong... should i get any warning message? Thx

Hi,
Yes, you can.
What firmware do you have, and what firmware do you want to flash?
Sent telepathically from my pyramid
Hi to flash firmware I usually put the firmware on the root of my sd card and flash from bootloader by pulling battery putting battery back in, pressing volume and power at the same time, the device will recognise the update and ask to continue, press power for yes. Once it's updated don't forget to REMOVE the pg58img file from the sd card or it will continue to try to update over and over . So when its finished just delete the file of your sd card. I use a card reader to do this. I just pop out my sd put into card reader and plug into computer and delete the file then put card back into device . But if you don't have a card reader its ok just delete the file however you can. Then your good to go. Hope this helps some . This is how I do my firmware. Best wishes.

yep for radio and hboot change you require SOFF ..when you are SON but HTC-DEV unlocked ..you can only change roms and recovery ..you cant modify firmware
so that's why it would not work... i'll stick with s-on for now since 3.32 works fine for me for all roms... ill get soff when most roms will reqire newer firmware... i dint really wanna do wire trick to get full root.. is there another way of getting this on 1.27 hboot? Thx ganesh..

Hboot radio
Rather than start a new thread I thought I would just expand this one.
My query is:
Bootloader on my phone is showing
HBOOT 1.27.1100
RADIO 11.24A.3504.31_M
(Rev S-OFF) got this from flashing universal 3.33 by mike
I wanted to know is this the latest radio I need for jellybean roms? I am having the Wi-F- turning on issues
I see some of them mention Radio_11.76A? Is this the full name for the radio above?
I have pushed this through Fastboot ADB so am I on the right one?
I have also pushed the Boot.img from each rom and updated to Faux latest kernels but none of this seems to solve the wifi issues

try some sense rom and see whether you got any wifi error or not

As long as the radio starts with 11 (11.24A, 11.76A etc) it is ICS compatible
I would still update to the latest radio (11.76A) available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202867
And then do a full wipe of all partitions through 4EXT (don't use superwipe, causes problems) and reinstall ARHD.

Ok guys, I've flashed a lots of device in the past, now I'm selling my Samsung S4 and buy this HTC ONE S from a friend. I like the phone a lot, I did s off with moonshine (gave error but in the end its finish).
I flash CM11, everything good, but, the camera is so slow to take picture. My friend told me that before that, it was ok (in stock roms). So, I decided to try a sense rom, I choose liberty rom, The rom flashed ok, but, Never boots, stucks on HTClogo, and restart.
I was with philz_touch_6.19.3-ville, so I decide to flash openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-ville. But still the same problem.
Then I try those recovery: openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-ville and openrecovery-twrp-2.6.1.0-ville. It doesnt even boot, only restart.
If I flash CM11 again, it will boot, but the camera is slow and i want a sense rom. In Hboot show this
Moonshine S-OFF
VLE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
CID-T-MOB010
HBOOT-2.15.4444
RADIO-1.35a.32.45.27
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.08.15

I was thinking if upgrade to Hboot 2.16 was good, but not sure. Any advice?
PD: The g-Sensor and camera flash light dont work but is hardware, just said it if that helps in something
PD2: Ok, the slow camera was because I had the flash on, and is damage, so thats make the camera slow, I deactivate and now takes picture fast. But still, want a sense rom
PD3: I try this recovery twrp-2.7.0.8-ville.img but nothing I flash the rom, but again bootloops. I get that recovery from here http://mdmower.cmphys.com/twrp-ville/
What about running last ruu ? You're on hboot 2.15 so no need to downgrade.

Yes, but what about 2.16? I have this RUU RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_TMOUS_3.14.531.11_Radio_1.13.50.05.31_10.30.50.08L_release_309489_signed_ICS_2.exe
that is what I need? What about s-off? Or the unlocked bootloader? I will lose it?
Hboot 2.16 is needed only if you want to run MaximusHD (this rom is NOT compatible with any other hboots).
Viper rom and Liberty are compatible with both 2.15 & 2.16.
I would add that CM11 is not officialy made for 2.15 hboot. If you want CM11 on 2.16 there are unofficial build made for this. Just in case you would came back to CM11 if you uprgrade to 2.16. Most of the AOSP based roms released here are made for 2.15.
So to resume, if you want a Sense 4+ rom, just run the ruu you told me and it should be fine (flash stock recovery before). If you want to switch to AOSP, no problem. If you want some Sense 5 or Sense 5+ try Viper or retry Liberty.
But if you want MaximusHD you will have to upgrade (all is explained in the rom thread). This is, in my opinion, the best rom so far released for our phone. Stock feeling but tweakable with Sense 5 Toolbox (xposed module). I advise you to try it at least and if you don't like it, just downgrade you hboot, no problem for doing this.
About recoveries, for 2.16 you need a modded 2.6.1.0 TWRP recovery (the only one for this hboot I think, everything is explained in MaximusHD OP). With this hboot and recovery you cannot mount your sdcard from recovery.
In 2.15 I used to use 2.3.3.0 TWRP, no issues in sdcard mounting. Whan I was on 2.15 I had some issues with newer versions. Since I'm on 2.16 I didn't try 2.6.X.X and 2.7.X.X with this hboot.
Good luck to make your choice, it's hard lol

Ok, I will try that rom, But I will not my S-off? And is easy to change between hboot? and yes, a lot recommended 2.6.3.0 as far I was reading, but that recovery never boots for me, and when I install it, it corrupts my sd and need to recover with 2.7.0.0.
I will run the RUU, I always have a little fear when messing with hboot hehe (Trauma from a bricked G1 a long time ago )

Running RUU wil not mess up your S-OFF. It will only return your phone back to stock firmware/radio/rom.
Switching between hboots (2.15 <--> 2.16) is always pretty the same.
What is annoying is that uprading or downgrading your hboot will format your sdcard, aswell as running any ruu.
To uprade to 2.16, follow the MaximusHD OP.
To downgrade to 2.15, follow this link until step 2.2 then flash the stock recovery and flash the firmware.zip the same way you flash 2.16. Then run ruu.
Some people advised me to use this tool to switch between hboots, but I preffer do it by myself. Have a look maybe you'll find it helpful.
I agree there is always a part of risk by doing this but you will not regret it when you'll find the perfect rom you want
Anyway your problem with Sense roms is kindda strange
Did you try to manually flash boot.img after flashing rom ?

Yes, Is strange, I know that the phone has hardware damage, but, only g sensor and flashlight, and everything works with AOSP, right know I'm charging the phone a little more, I've downloaded already viper rom, liberty, maximumHD, cm11 and Beanstalk.
Beanstalk has a lot of force close to me, cm11 just in the start, with a cm account, and when switching from the camera to videocamera.
Maybe there are error with the partition? I will try what you said and report back (will take a while because I read 3 times every step just to be sure)

Yes I thought about partitions, that's why if I was you I would run a ruu to make all clean and begin a clean fresh install.
I didn't test Beanstalk. CM11 works pretty well on both hboot, some FC however.
My favourite AOSP on 2.15 stills vanir aosp
But you will have time to test by yourself when everything will be repaired
I fully agree with you it's far better to take your time and read all threads carefully. Make thing in haste is the better way to do it wrong and have issues So take your time

Yep you're right for the hboot & partitions.
Do not install normal TWRP on 2.16 hboot. The modded TWRP recovery from the OP which have to be used for this hboot is a .zip and have to be flashed when you're in ruu mode, just after flashing the firmware zip !
Did you follow all the install guide steps ?
Edit : you will find the recovery in this package. What afraids me is that you already should have downloaded this package to make a correct install of this rom. Your ~12gb of usable memory are correctly recognized by the phone ?
If not I suppose you did only one install of the rom. You need to flash recovery to make another install. Follow these steps :
1 - Boot in android, connect your phone and put the rom on your internal sdcard
2 - Reboot to fastboot
3 - You need to have file "TWRP_2.6.1.0_ville_4.2.2.zip" in your adb folder
4 - Type :
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip TWRP_2.6.1.0_ville_4.2.2.zip
fastboot reboot recovery
7 - Flash MaximusHD (full wipe !). This should be the second time you do it.
8 - Reboot
Yeah. the problem is that for some reason its locked again, the bootloader, but in unlocked, and flash the TWPR of the package, and my pc see 11.9gb so its ok I think. (My mistake was copy al my data haha when i unlocked again the bootloader, its clear the storage again)
I just want to see sense 5.5, but if what I read is truth, i will use maximumhd as daily, hope that sense 5.5 gets better in a future
And just another question. Maximumhd and all sense roms are rooted? I dont see superuser. And can i enable beats with the speakers?

You mean your bootloader was relocked ? It doesn't matter, being S-OFF is what is important here. Don't care about bootloader locked or unlocked.
Yes it is rooted, but it uses SuperSU not superuser. All roms released here are rooted, except if it is stated in the thread Beats cannot be enabled with speakers, only with headphones
