[Q] SagaS HTC Europe 2.10.401.5 update fail - HTC Desire S

Few days ago I receive new OTA update 2.10.401.5 on my HTC DESIRE S Europe.
But, after i download the update and continue to install the update after the update finished my device stack at the boot splash screen. my HBOOT version is still 6.98.1002. I don't know what could be the problem? I revert it to the old 1.47.401.4 software version via RUU, but I really don't know why the update failed?
Will somebody please answer my question?

another one??
Jesus Christ...could be problem because ur s-off or maybe htc screwed something ..but cache must be cleaned before reboot thats for sure

You use stock ROM before install the new one?

I think it's S-OFF. Because the latest updates request/demands for you to have HBOOT 2.xx.xx for it to work?

that's revolutionary hboot.
ota update need at least hboot 0.98.2000.

Meanwhile in this thread ...
OP tries to install official firmware on his security off'd phone, what a moron.
You need the official hboot (not s-off, not rooted, STOCK, 2.00.0002) to ensure the OTA works properly (it will of course work without it, but when we tried, certain aspects of the ROM didn't work correctly).
ifelse( is_ship_bootloader(getprop("ro.bootloader")) == "t" , < More ways to laugh at OP.

I solve the problem!

Big thanks to u guys.
I was using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1187231
I had to S-ON back again and after that perform the update.
It's because the HBOOT version is 6..89.*** and it need to be 0.98.0000 or something.
Trust me! It was fully working for me.
Now I have the new stock 2.3.5 rom on my DS with sense 3.0
There one other problem. I couldn't find any tolls which can gain S-OFF on the new HBOOT 2.*****
So at this stage you can't gain root on mine and your DS with the new ROM.

No S-OFF for that version of hboot. but you can still unlock it to flash customer roms, recovery. radio wouldn't update on mine.

[GUIDE][2.3.4 OFFICIAL HTC S-OFF ROOT] Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2-1.35.401.1_P2

THIS IS FOR UNBRANDED 401 PHONES ONLY! IT MIGHT WORK FOR OTHERS BUT I WOULD RATHER NOT TRY...
Update 2011/08/14
Added more information and details
Renamed thread into GUIDE
Using this guide will reset your device into a vanilla 2.3.4 HTC Sensation phone. Your SD-Card wont be touched and you will have S-OFF and root. This will lock your bootloader but that should not be a problem since you are still S-OFF and can flash whatever you want - except the bootloader. I tested these steps and i have a 2.3.4 401 Sensation with Locked HBOOT, S-OFF and root.
If you want S-OFF & ROOT on the latest HTC 2.3.4 ROM follow the steps:
1) Backup
2) Get S-OFF on 2.3.3 (Guide Thread)
3) Recover your phone with original 2.3.3 Update
http://www.filefactory.com/file/cc03797/n/RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.1_Radio_10.43a.900 7.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_198179_signed.exe
4) Update to 2.3.4 via "Over The Air" (OTA) or using OpenRecovery (OR). I did not use the OR-Method but you can find a lot of information about here. I do not advertise any guides for the OR-method since i did not test them myself.
4) Execute step 2.1 to 2.6 from the Sensation Guide (Guide Thread)
5) Get root again: Sensation Guide 3.1 to 3.12 (Guide Thread)
Have fun!

Thanks
anyone have a change log? google failed me for once in my life
The 2.3.4 update include an new hboot Version 1.18...
Are u sure that u can install cwm and root the phone again after applying the update?
I think u will be s-on again after the hboot get changed...
Everything I'm reading (the two other threads about this update) says the above method will NOT work. I don't think the OP even tried. Wait for a real dev to cook this up.

Oh boy Some of use knew this was gonna happen
do not flash this to a stock rooted rom - it will **** it up - wait for your favourite dev to update their rom
flashing this will give you the new locked htc bootloader and you will not be s-off anymore (even though it still says you are)
it's taken me nearly 3 hours to get back to normal

Hi all,
I've just done this update
Backup with Titanium
Reflash with 2.3.3 stock ROM (my Sensation was already S-Off)
OTA update to 2.3.4
ClockWork Recovery
Root
Restore with Titanium
Reboot and that's it
No OTA
I did exactly like shown in the first post, but i wont get the update ota. It sais that my phone is actually actual.
Could I have done something wrong?
Got the Sensation from T-mobile -> debrandet it like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033
And used the RUU version from the first post.
Thanks
done as suggested - works fine for me!
I was off this weekend.
I posted this howto cause i did it with my phone. Whyever would i post a guide when it does not work?!

no - i did not try to.
I am pretty happy with my phone right now. Fast and long battery pack - replaced Sense with LP.
When testing the early (pre-soff) custom roms and test recoverys I had to flash stock RUUs a couple of times.
To get the phone back into a decent state I needed to pg58 flash eng&unsecured boot then root and fastboot recovery.
Can't for the life of me think why anyone would s-off their phone then install stock/ota for any reason (bar repair). It's like buying a track day race car, shouting "look what I've got" then pushing it around rather than thrashing it.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I removed the hboot from the OTA before flashing it so couldn't confirm for myself. There's been a lot of conflicting information about whether phones are still S-OFF after running the unmodified OTA but it appears that they are. I only ran the RUU then OTA so I could have a backup of a stock 1.45 system.img.

[Q] Is it possible to get S-OFF on HBoot 1.23?

Hello Geeks.
I have recently misled myself by getting my phone back from s-off to s-on before installing the stock RUU on my Sensation XE.
However, i have managed to unbrick the phone and i have a custom ROM running on it while there is S-ON right now.
I was running ICS which means i upgraded the HBOOT from 1.18 to 1.23 and revolutionary does not support this HBOOT version yet.
I want to know if there is a possible way of downgrading the HBOOT version to 1.18 or 1.17 with the S-ON because i cant get S-OFF until its downgraded to something revolutionary supports.
OR
Is there a compatible RUU update utility that will flash my device back to stock and restore everything?
Thanks.
Not until:
1. Revolutionary becomes compatible, or;
2. The ICS RUU is officially leaked, therefore becoming a 'proper' HBOOT in a warranty sense

Ah, so you have to brick the phone first to downgrade it? Seems a bit severe but at least it's a method.
Surely if someone was silly enough to S-ON with a new HBOOT they will more than likely properly brick their phone??

Hboot downgrade

Actually i'm s-on and revolutionary is not working with hboot version 1.27.0000. I want to downgrade hboot version to install a custom rom. And...... My cid isn't 11111111 so i cant install android 2.3.4 with hboot version who is accepted by revolutionary. Thanks !

You can't downgrade your hboot with s-on. That really is common knowledge and if you weren't aware of that, I would suggest you do a lot more reading before attempting s-off anyway. I'm sorry to be a **** but you aren't ready.
I'm suggest you to wait until revo come out with the support for your HBOOT version

This method is NOT for 1.27 hboot.
Isn't running a GB RUU enough to have everything back to a "S-OFFable" setting?
I used an "old" RUU to go back to a revolutionary compatible hboot on a friend of mine's Incredible S (hboot 2.0 to 1.13) and it worked... Is there something I don't know as the reason for this not to work on the Sensation (surely there is... )?

My cid num, got with adb, is: VODAP102.
Should I insert it in android-info?
Should I super cid the phone before cwm?
Youre gonna have to unlock your bootloader by using htc's official method (google it). Then youll be able to install CWM and whatever else. There are limitations, theres a good guide in the development section about htc official bootloader unlocker. Read that before attempting.

Yes you will have to use the HTC Dev method right now if you want to flash a custom ICS ROM being as those are the only ones you will be able to flash with the Hboot you have. But know this ahead of time the HYC De. Unlock is very different then the Revolutionary unlock. Click the link in my sig to learn mote about the HTc Dev unlock and what it allows you to do. But if I was you I would just wait until Revolutionary supports Hboot 1.27.0000, or someone comes up with a Hboot downgrade for the Sensation cause the HTC Dev method does not fully unlock all portitions except the radio portition like Revolutionary does. Plus it leaves evidence your bootloader has been unlocked so HTC can say your warranty is void. Check out this post to as it gives a little more insight on HTC Dev unlock.
So to root the device I have to CWM it, to CWM it I need to unlock the bootloader?
But, If not rooted, unlocked nor CWModded, can I just install ARHD?
Ok, let's take it the other way round:
My phone is locked, hboot 1.27.0000, S-on, cid VODAP102 and not rooted, but last official stock ics.

To flash AHRD you will have to have a unlocked bootloader, either by HTC Dev method or by Revolutionary method. Now as stated by you, malybru, and myself we all know Revolutionary is not compatible with Hboot 1.27.0000 (as of right now), which your device currently has. So this leaves only the HTC Dev method. Now I personally agree with others here on XDA, I would normally stay far away from unlocking via HTC Dev. But seeing as you bought your Sensation new with Hboot 1.27.0000, you really have no other alternative but to wait for Revolutionary to update or for some other means of unlocking becomes available. Also if you do manage to downgrade your Hboot you will have to use HTC Dev to do it.
Now I am in no way saying you should use HTC Dev, nor am I advocating HTC Dev. I am just trying to inform you. What you do with your device is your choice and your choice only. But what ever you do, please post back here with your decision and if applicable any results.
Also if you was wondering why you have to use HT Dev to downgrade Hboot, read this post. Yeah I know it is for GB ROMs but I imagine the same probably holds true for ICS. I mean it is the HTC Dev unlock that allowsyou to downgrade in that senario. But what do I know.

Sure, exploit H.Boot 1.27.0000 for S-Off is revolution, new model of HTC phone is same like HTC_One
****ing S-ON policy HTC because you total locked us
And that is why HTC always following behind Samsung nowadays
I'm waiting XDA revolution
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and new nothing about rooting until a few days ago...quickly discovered the fact that Revolution does not support 1.27.
I unlocked with HTC DEV, ran recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.9-pyramid.img using Fastboot CLI.
After that I backed up my stock Vodafone ICS ROM using CWM then switched to the XDA guide for rooting with su-2.3.6.3 and followed rest of XDA guides for installing a ROM (really useful guides - Thanks!!)
Within an hour I had gone from stock Vodafone ICS to Virtuous Inquisition-v4.0.1
I'll admit I got hooked up on flashing recovery and was given some guidance by a friendly soul but figured the rest out from this forum..

Re-engineered HBOOT 2.00.002 and ICS.

Hi, guys, first of all I'm an absolute noob so bear with me if I didn't found all the answer even after having searched through the forum.
My big question is about the re-engineered HBOOT 2.00.002. I have a virginal Desire S, non s-off'ed and non rooted, HBOOT is the latest, that is 2.00.002. I want to load the latest official ICS rom from htc and, as I think I understood, HBOOT must be latest version, therefore non s-off since there is no way to s-off that version. But I also would like to just go to CM10 in the future.
Then I read about the re-engineered HBOOT 2.00.002. This HBOOT should give me s-off and the ability to load the ruu rom. Only catch is that you should re-partition the phone. And that's when things get weird. Does I need to do the re-partitioning before installing the ruu ICS rom after installing the re-engineered HBOOT? If so, in order to install the ruu ICS rom, does I need to have any working rom on the phone, that is, does I need to do the nandroid backup to have back my ginger bread 2.3.5 before installing the ruu ics rom?
And going on, currently there is any way to root the phone while on ICS htc stock rom?
But most important of all, what this re-enginnered hboot really is? The revoked/revolutionary mod only works on hboot versions before the 2.xxxx. Is this re-engineered hboot a 2.00.002 official hboot that has been modified to be s-off or is it a previous hboot s-off'ed via revolution but with a different version number?
Thank you all,
Vincent.

If I was you I would forget about the re-engineered HBOOT and just run the RUU and put ICS on your phone.
The re-engineered HBOOT is only for people who have S-Offed using the revolutionary method and have had trouble with the Android 4.0 Sense ROMs. You have absolutely no need to use it now.
If you want CM10 in the future then all you need to do is unlock your bootloader with htcdev, flash a new recovery (4EXT or CWM) and install CM10 from your custom recovery. You will be required to flash the boot.img file separately if you are S-On.
Hi Kavrocks, thank for your prompt answer. I'll surely follow your advice, it's the easiest way and my first goal is to get an easy ICS on my phone. My only doubt is about being able to get to cm10 or whatever else since no rooting hack has already been developed for the new ICS rom.
Do you think HTC will push updates on the new ICS rom or, being it for developer only, it will be just stuck to its original state?

Original.
By what I understand, now that an official ICS ROM is out and thus binary drivers are available, we should expect a fully working non-original ROM in a short time. How much time do you think it will take for the CMx developer to integrate the binaries into the CMx ROM?

Don't tell this my Desire S, HBOOT 2.00.002, S-ON, unlocked with stock ICS and root
Just do this:
- unlock your phone: www.htcdev.com
- Install stock ICS
- install a custom recovery using fastboot
- install superuser using custom recovery
Ok, I've succesfully got ICS on my Desire, eventhough I had to do a 'fastboot oem lock' to get past a 155 error. Now, would you please be so kind to tell me the exact filename of the superuser exploit that you have applied on ICS? I'm asking this to you because I've tried the 3.1.3 on GB2.3.5 and it always hang on 'waiting root access right'.
Thank you.
Vincenzo.

Ok, I'll answer to myself, use the CWM-SuperSU-v0.95.zip archive. It works with ICS.
