I'm going to assume right off the bat you're on an EE4 froyo rom? the safest is 1.4ghz however not many peoples phones (myself included when I was on froyo) will be stable, there were random reboots and lockups galore... I was stable at 1.2ghz but as I said everyone's phones are different, but to answer your question yes you can go up to 1.4

i just dowloaded this app call tegrak overclock and it just asked me for superuser permission and i was able to overclock it to 1.2ghz.
i have it set to 100 - 1200 and its stable so thats why i was asking if it was safe to do 1.3ghz.

You can overclock with that, but personally, why would you use an app to load a module to overclock? You're forcing the system to do something it doesn't want to, which could easily lead to problems.

you need to change the model in the build.prop file.
it needs to say SCH-I510 not humble by Danalo1979 for the app to know what phone you are on.

i9020a overclocking

Has anyone been successfull? i have tried every OC kernel and as soon as i overclock it just reboots my phone to a freeze (only way out is to either pull the battery or adb reboot). That being said the UV kernel runs fine.
Not sure if it has to do with the I9020A series.
But overall, each NS phone can tolerate its own OC levels. Some phones can tolerate only up to 1.2 GHz, some may be able to achieve 1.4GHz (or beyond). And for some of the unfortunate, some aren't able to OC at all.
Thus this post. I hope my phone is'nt the issue. it would be nice to push a little bit more out of it if i needed it down the line.
I over clocked mine to 1.4 and it was fine, I leave it at 1.0 tho, this friggin thing is quick enough for now.
hmm how do you check your radio. I'm gonna try that as a last resort. And i can set mine as 1.4 but as soon as i run a resource heavy task (n64) my phone locks up and reboot freezes.

Not sure why a radio would affect your ability to OC but...
Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> Baseband Version
the last 3 are what you want to look at "JK8/KB1/KB3"
List all the kernels you've tried. The best in my opinion is Netarchy's 1.3.0.3-CFS kernel using SetCPU
Try intervals of 1.2 GHz too. My phone can only go up to 1.2 GHz
Yeah actually i had tried all of the bfs kernels. I just succeeded in getting Netarchy's 1.3.0.3-CFS kernel. And i can run up to 1.4 . Maybe the brain fk scheduler does not play nice with 9020a's

i flashed the BFS first, and lost my boot animation. Then i switched to the CFS, and the boot animation still didnt appear.
Any ideas as to how i can get it back?
Also, is there anyway to recover the stock kernel? I'd like to have it handy to be able to go back to it.

Wipe dalvik and cache. Flash a rom that flashes stock. Like cm7 but netarchys is so much better than stock
You can also get ogdobbers which is stock + ext4 + voodoo.

you're better off asking that in the netarchy kernel thread in dev forums.
netarchy could answer that... not a lot of phones can tolerate 1.6 GHz Oc

lagfix

I can't recall with all of the posts lately, but is there a voodoo lagfix for our beloved sgs4g? is there something stopping it from being applied? My coworker just got a charge and has a custom rom and kernel with lagfix already...
Just wondering if i missed something.
Nope, not ported over yet. Do you need it that bad? My phone is flying with the bali kernel coupled with the fugu mod, and if i wanted to OC it to 1.3-5.

Tegrak wouldn't let me do it, nor would SetCPU. It wouldn't go over 1GHZ.

u have to have one of the bali kernels installed and then u can use tegrak. Set cpu will not work. I have also applied the fugu fix and have bali 1.4 and Tegrak has me oc'd at 1.3!

I used tegrak on stock kernel overclocked to 1.4 and was also using set cpu before I flashed bali. All is still working w/ bali even set cpu.

mine did not, i get a vibrate at loading module then when i set the speed i get another vibrate. thats it. what are you trying to OC your phone at?
Mine did the constant vibrate once, although I don't recall what I was doing prior. Holding down the power button forced a reboot. Never happened again.
Also you will need to raise your voltages if you are going to go higher than 1.3 with pro.

[Kernel][KG2]Bali Tweaks + OC! 1.28Ghz

I added kernel tweaks from raspdeep's I9000 OC and got our bali kernel to OC, I'm running at 1.2 Ghz right now. I haven't tested this in terms of battery life, but there's a good chance your battery life may be less. So use with caution.
This 1.2 Ghz OC feels smoother and faster than stock, and better and more stable than 1.28Ghz. If you tried the 1.28 and gave up, try this 1.2, it's much better. I removed the link to the 1.28Ghz kernel because it was causing too many problems for everyone, and actually being slower due to freezing and overheating.
Battery life and stability not guaranteed
Use setcpu to control your cpu speed.
Credits to Dr. Honk for bali original, and raspdeep for OC source.
THIS IS FOR KG2 ONLY!
I have flashed this both on stock and on a custom KG2 rom, they both worked.
link removed because it was unstable - 1.28Ghz
Updated 1.2 KERNEL: http://www.multiupload.com/3QPMQY476F
3:55PM 8/3/2011
I provide no guarantees that this will work, make a backup before you try this!
This was really only made for all the kids who kept asking for an OC kernel.
It has been suggested that the 1.2Ghz kernel may be more stable, so I would suggest trying that one instead of the 1.28Ghz kernel
Flashing right now . You beat me too it ;p

Is it the imnuts kernel? I can't find what you're talking about, the only thing I found took me to this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107797

Flashing my first kernel, need some input?

I have synergy 1.3 right now on my phone. Have rooted and flashed this rom with no problems so far by following what I have read on this wonderful site. I would like to try and flash Imoseyon's leankernal. I have read that this works extremely well with synergy's 1.3. I have been following the steps from this guide > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709 and I have installed ez recovery. So couple questions.
1. I change the recovery to CWM 6.0.1, then hit the flash button and then the reboot recovery button?
2. will flashing a kernel change any settings on my phone for instance I am running apex launcher pro have everything set up the way I like it will all be the same after reboot?
3. is wiping cache/dalvik necessary? I have read elsewhere that when flashing kernels it is not necessary at all?
thanks!
1. Yes. I selected the 6.0.1 from the dropdown and then flashed it. I then made a nandroid and tested restore. I came from twrp 2.2 and wanted to make sure it restored fine.
2. Flashing the kernel will not effect your apps.
3. I didn't but it won't hurt clearing caches.

Oops. Should have mentioned that. I found out that if you get the kernel from his "latest" link it is the 12 version and not 12-2. I posted in the rootz thread about that but it likely got buried with the problems peppe are reporting about using the kernel with 1.4.

That's pretty good battery life there! What are you underclocking? Min and max or just the min? What are you using to set your CPU clocks? I've been using RomToolbox. I have thinking about dropping the coin on SetCPU, but want to make sure it's what everyone is using to get this great of battery life. Sorry to thread hijack. I've come from a DX and didn't mess with these settings that much.
