Hey all! Did some research and it looks like my unlocked G2X will not work in Germany since they're on the 900/1800band. Can anyone confirm if their phone works there with full data speeds? Any recomendations on how to swap my G2X for an O2X?
I cannot say anything about the phone working buddy....But the BEER ROCKS!!!

It's a quad-band phone, which usually means it works everywhere. And yes, it P999 has same specs as the 970, which I saw there. So to answer your worries - yes, you will still be able to send us an MMS with Octoberfest chicks.

And even if it doesn't, they have beautiful phones and awesome plans - like the 15Euro unlim talk, text and data. Did you get a job there?

I know, I was trying to say how much better the plans are than here. Particularly, I was talking the 10Euro unlim data plan. It wasn't O2. There was also like 7cents per minute or SMS, can't remember. I wish they have it here.
aplsux i am sorry but I do live here and I have never heard of a plan like that. They do have good plans but believe me I would have a plan like that if they did.
More importantly we get alot of phones unlocked already through o2 and Vodofone but stay clear of Tmobile here. They are the big dogs and they have locked phones with huge reg monthly payments.

I was wondering that, since their mobile plans are very very cheap! I am aware that they ride on T-Mobile's network. I have the G2 and it would be a godsend to have a cheaper plan.

Hello everyone! New guy here to Verizon, and the Thunderbolt. I was with T-Mobile till the BIG news break of the day about AT&T buying out T-Mobile. I refuse to give AT&T money, so I jumped ship and joined Verizon.
Simple question really....
Anything that I really need to know about Verizon in general, and/or how they work with their customers?
Thanks!
Will.
I personally have never had any problem. Always been a great experience with VZW for me.
I moved to Verizon from AT&T and have gotten far superior service. I have gone onto their site and chatted live with folks about things that are really odd and they've been willing to go out of their way to answer the questions I've had. Additionally, as I do work in smartphone security and one of my malware simulations was worried VZW would have issue with it... so went to a store and they took the time to look through the contract and make sure I wouldn't violate any policies with me. I have found them to be a significant improvement over AT&T.
So yeah great experience & great customer service. Plus the quality of network is the best I've been on yet. And can't wait to get on the Verizon 4G LTE network later this week.

That's why I paid full retail to get a ThunderBolt as after seeing the speeds and no additional cost for the service couldn't convince myself not to And the sales associates were very helpful to double check that I wouldn't loose any of my current upgrade dates/promotions down the line.

Oh god, what am I looking at?
I loved TMobile for their competitive rates and awesome customer service.
Since switching to Verizon I have had superior coverage and I have had a great customer experience. My sales rep pampered me when I purchased the TB and started a new family plan.
Thus far, I have received awesome service. Maybe it is new customer treatment or maybe it is because I have a nice corporate discount plan. Either way, I am happy!
Can you tether the TB once rooted or does verizon sniff around and cut you off or send a text that your not allowed to tether?

Just a pro rated, higher than usual bill...try not to use your phone too much (like texting, calls) if you have a low mins/voice plan until the first billing cycle is over....after that it's smooth sailing from there..then again your exeperience might be different..

This has only been on AT&T to my knowledge so far and only for iPhone users using the MiFi app on their jailbroken iPhones. From what I understand about the way wifi tether works on rooted phones ties it into the underlying architecture so it looks like native traffic. And I'm pretty sure the methods for detecting if your tethered under this approach will make it tough to near impossible for them to detect; however, they could take the classic ISP approach of network shaping/throttling if you seem to be using more bandwidth than they want you to.
But even on the Verizon iPhone so far no issues w/ this from Verizon. Might be that the population of people who choose to jailbreak/root in comparison to the number of users is so small that they don't see enough of a loss to have them want to spend the cost of spending their time/money to track down these users yet.
Thanks for making this thread because I also jumped from ATT to V with two Thunderbolts for my wife and I. They should be here tomorrow.
It will be our first time on Verizon, and our first smartphones. We are finally joining the 21st century. Hhah.

Wow! We are in the exact same boat. Once I found out about the sale I jumped ship as well. I ordered on amazon tonight and will get the phone cheaper but I'll have to wait til its back in stock.
I currently use a G2 on TMO and I love it, never had a problem until todays news came out. AT&T will NEVER get anything from me again, I was with them once a few years back and it was horrible!
Anyways, From one former TMO customer switching to VZW to another, enjoy man! I know I will. Went in store today for a demo. This phone looks awesome!
On a side note, any TB users use Slingbox? With the 4G speeds how reliable is it? And how is the quality? I normally only watch over WiFi or at my comp at work.

lol before switching from sprint to verizon, since sprint doesn't care what you do data wise, i asked verizon this in a round about way. They said they could careless how much you use. Which makes sense when you have a device pulling at times near 30Mbps down, (got that speed a few times today) you are bound to use a crapton of data. I have only had the phone 24 hoursish, and I already have a gig of data used...lol...

They get $3 billion in cash, as well as $3 billion in new spectrum and lowered roaming costs. Great news for T-Mobile customers! We should get some upgrades
But once the $3 billion is used up, if T-Mobile USA continues losing money as it usually has. And if Deutsche Telekom gets tired of propping up T-Mobile USA "if" the FCC is somehow swayed by all the anti-merger talk.
How would T-Mobile USA survive on it's own, given it's been losing money for so long?

It's a little early to get excited, but we can hope for the best! That should help keep T-Mo afloat for a bit longer while they try to figure out how to get back in the green.
To get back in the green:
(1) Truly unlimited (unthrottled) data (i.e) Sprint
(2) Better plans and phone pricing
...I'm sure there's more, but these two would definitely help

People don't use T-Mobile because their network has poor penetration for things such as...buildings. And they can't afford to offer unlimited data, they certainly can't afford to lower prices.

It may not but at the current rate if TMO is to survive some buyer will need to step in. Having TMO go belly up, and lose a price competitor in the market, doesn't excite me either.
Of the available options Google could potentially offer some serious advantages, and has the deep pockets to finance network expansion.
This is the funniest thing I have seen since keyboard cat!
Matt
Great news? Hardly. I would benefit dramatically from the merger in terms of signal and service availability. Tmo is in serious trouble if the merger doesn't go through and they will end up being split up. It will not be good.
If you don't like it, imagine what will happen when another of the big 3 left gets split up between the 2 because they also can't compete. Then what?
I always hear talk about bad coverage but I've never experienced bad coverage, I guess living in LA is a good choice.

Not with t mobile. I was merely stating that if they want to gain customers, such as myself who do infact travel outside the city, they need to improve their coverage. I would gladly give them my business but I value coverage over price.
So I'm in an all out WAR with AT&T right now. Not going to get into anything beyond the fact that their customer service reps treated me like flaming doodoo while i was nothing but nice. Game over
So any who, what other carriers in the USA will my infuse work on? Including the virgin mobile and boost and whatever other cheap unlimited plans out there?
Thanks!

I understand wanting to keep your current phone, but fail to follow that Verizon is too expensive. The calling plans are exactly the same price as AT&T, the 2GB plan on Verizon is $5 more, and you can get 5 GB on Verizon for $5 more than the 4 GB plan on AT&T.

not sure but I thought metro pcs was cdma, but they are the only service with lte in my area, if they also cater to GSM or I was mistaken about cdma then I may need to get an unlocked lte something or other and drop att.
anyway strait talk is powered by a number of carriers. they use att similar cards, T-Mobile Sims, and also have cdma phones. the sim is locked to the phone. basically the imei is more important than the sim and if you use the sim and sell the phone your sim is deactivated if the phone you buy is reactivated. also many of the phones use other ways to lock the sim. the only phones that the sim is att and compatible with the infuse are $200 Nokia smart phones as far as I know.
supposedly consumer cellular is att. haven't heard of any trying it.

I use less than 2g a month and barely any minutes, their cheapest plan put me with taxes and fees and unlimited texts at over 130$ ...not just a quote from a store that was my old bill in 09. att is about 110 and I switched it to a family plan with a friend so its only about 80 a month now.
Consumer Cellular is AT&T - it's what my parents are using with my old Infuse.
However, Consumer Cellular specializes in very basic no-frills service - they're great if you want a dirt-cheap extremely light-use plan, but at even moderate use they can become very expensive. For example, their highest data plan is $20 for 200MB.
An Infuse on T-Mobile will be 2G-only.

Unless....well...there is a case opened with AT&T and I, and the only resolution i could come to was to cancel the service. I had the VP of AT&T on the phone earlier (yes its that bad) and he asked if there was any other resolution and I said I believe my only option since i have no service here (and other things that happened) I have to cancel. He said he'll call me back monday.

Switching phones may be the other option if you want to keep at&t. I don't get reception with my infuse in areas my family or friends do have signal in, and they have at&t. GS2 is smaller I believe, well I know the screen is. But don't know about their signals.

hmm...well tmobile does work over wifi and has super green coverage for my area. my step brother has it and when he comes here he has full service on his galaxy. It would only cost me 40 a month for the pay as you go....and thats compared to about 80 a month now...
I don't have a job yet and that would be a better option....but not if my phone is going to suck balls.
Anyone think it will suck the big one being on 2g?

Well back in the day 2g was cool. But I was stuck on it while everybody was getting 3G then 4g, and now that I'm on the infuse, I've been spoiled by the speeds. So yes, "it will suck the big one". You don't want to sell the infuse?

Ehhhh not really. I have all these pretty bling cases (yes I'm a chick its like shoes and pocketbooks) that probably won't fit the galaxy s2...and on top of that I do really like my phone. I just ordered a larger battery for it too.
I also don't see it getting all that much online...maybe 225 for it unlocked if i figured that out...and that wouldn't be enough money for me to get an s2 without a contract for tmobile pay as you go...or wait can you use that phone for pay as you go? because its not in the same section as the other no contract devices. I'm confused about that.
The main thing is to have a phone that works for less money or the same.
oh crap...i have the best buy buy back....
I have a trip planned to France and need a phone and internet access that I can tether.
We have a few Sprint Nexus S's in the family and I'm thinking of picking up a GSM version just for this trip. What kind of data speeds and tethering could I expect to see with this phone in Europe? I seems to be one of the more affordable options as a spare phone I can pick up just for international travel.
Thanks.
Steve
I would advise you to buy a nice MiFi hotspot, and buy a sim in France! I live in the Netherlands and it works like a charm when I go to Italy in my holiday! LTE will be coming in the next months in the netherlands, but I don't know if it is already available in France. look here to see if your MiFi hotspot supports the right frequencies!
have a good journey!!

That could work also. I would just need to use VOIP to call back home for business.

Hmm.. Yeah, thats true. Hadnt thought about that as I'm 15 and have made about about 5 phonecalls in more than one year with my Nexus S . Than you could go for the option you mentioned already

If when you say you can pick one you mean buying, I wouldn't do it just for this travel. If I were you I would get a MiFi with a local SIM. If your travel is not very long I would rent, there are a few options available if you search for "rent mifi france" or things like that. It's usually quite cheap and you don't have to worry about frequencies or looking for the cheapest SIM.
BTW, there is not a lot public wifi in France, so get something.
