Does Simple Mobile use T-Mobile's HSDPA+ aswell? - General Topics

I was wondering that, since their mobile plans are very very cheap! I am aware that they ride on T-Mobile's network. I have the G2 and it would be a godsend to have a cheaper plan.

Oh well, if they dont know it, then i'm sure they dont have it, cause the Reps get details like this in their system

Hmm, I need to raise money in the mean time anyways lol. Since ETF is 200 for me. . .and then the additional cost of buying the plan and the sim. . .

They get $3 billion in cash, as well as $3 billion in new spectrum and lowered roaming costs. Great news for T-Mobile customers! We should get some upgrades
But once the $3 billion is used up, if T-Mobile USA continues losing money as it usually has. And if Deutsche Telekom gets tired of propping up T-Mobile USA "if" the FCC is somehow swayed by all the anti-merger talk.
How would T-Mobile USA survive on it's own, given it's been losing money for so long?

It's a little early to get excited, but we can hope for the best! That should help keep T-Mo afloat for a bit longer while they try to figure out how to get back in the green.
To get back in the green:
(1) Truly unlimited (unthrottled) data (i.e) Sprint
(2) Better plans and phone pricing
...I'm sure there's more, but these two would definitely help

People don't use T-Mobile because their network has poor penetration for things such as...buildings. And they can't afford to offer unlimited data, they certainly can't afford to lower prices.

It may not but at the current rate if TMO is to survive some buyer will need to step in. Having TMO go belly up, and lose a price competitor in the market, doesn't excite me either.
Of the available options Google could potentially offer some serious advantages, and has the deep pockets to finance network expansion.
This is the funniest thing I have seen since keyboard cat!
Matt
Great news? Hardly. I would benefit dramatically from the merger in terms of signal and service availability. Tmo is in serious trouble if the merger doesn't go through and they will end up being split up. It will not be good.
If you don't like it, imagine what will happen when another of the big 3 left gets split up between the 2 because they also can't compete. Then what?
I always hear talk about bad coverage but I've never experienced bad coverage, I guess living in LA is a good choice.

!!! WARNING About Straight Talk !!!! STAY AWAY!!!

i switched from tmo to straight talk last nite. i thought i was going to be happy. i was Mod Edit DEAD WRONG! 1st, i bought a $45 unlimited calling card. the calls were staticy. and on my first 7 calls, 3 calls were dropped in mid call. i called ST to complain. and of course,Mod Edit i wanted my refund back. they said theres no refund. i was furious. so now i'm Mod Edit stuck with this godamn ST for a month. at the end of the month i'm gonna get a $50 unlimited calling card from tmo. yes, i'm going back to shake hands with the devil.
all this time i thought i was using at&t towers for ST service. again, i was wrong. at&t doesnt drop calls or give static. i dont know why ST says they use at&t towers. on top of the $45, i now have to pay $50 to get a calling card from tmo.. not only that, i still owe tmo $70 from the prior month. straight talk is the WORST carrier in the market now!
i share this with all of you to show you how Mod Edit up this company is. dont be a sucker... DO NOT GET INTO STRAIGHT TALK. if you do, youll regret it BIG TIME!!!
thanks everyone
What exactly did you expect? You get what you pay for.
I have used straight talk before, for quite some time actually before just recently switching to sprint. I never experienced any of the issues you are talking about. Actually, I had ZERO problems while using straight talk. It all depends on where your located. Some areas get better service, some dont, thats just how it is.
Almost any support center you call these days are located overseas, its just how this country is becoming. Straight talk offers a great affordable service for cheap which is almost unmatched by other companies.
When you pay 40 dollars a month for unlimited everything, its fair to assume you are going to get only a standard ammount of customer service. you get what you pay for. I dont think you will find yourself ever happy with any cellular service with the attitude you are currently presenting.
Im very happy.
i have to say that i have used ATT and straight talk. ON straight talk now, and love it! Exactly the same service and speeds i had with ATT. i'm using the E71 sim in a Inspire 4G. Only 49 bucks a month including taxes, surcharges, etc. Saving over 900 dollars a year with my wife and I!
Yes, i get/send mms too.
FYI, if you are in a rural area you may not like Straight talk. Some areas just don't have the coverage. I am in central FL, but have used all through Florida, Georgia, ALabama.

i seriously dont think you got better service than tmo or at&t. and i do very much think you got the problems that i got - just my personal opinion. but i do agree that it depends on your location. BUT i'm ni nyc.. and this is supposed to be one of the best spots on earth with no problems. plus, ST claims they use at&t towers. if thats true (which i highly doubt given this evidence), my calls should be perfect without any problems.

support centers is not the point.. the point is to hardly call any support center if the service is so good without problems. and ST DOES NOT offer great service. it may be cheap (as is this case for the obvious wrong reasons), but its not great service by any stretch. if it were, i and others wouldnt be complaining. as much as i hate tmo, i must say that calls on tmo are WAY clearer WITH NO drops in calls.

Cancel T-Mobile without etf

Did anyone here about this yet, according to the link, you can get out of your contract from tmobile without paying an early termination fee (I think it is $200 still)
Does anyone want to even leave Tmobile? I was thinking of doing this and then signing up back again to save for a new phone

you can carry "upgrades"? how does that work.
i think that $60 prepaid plan with 2gb of data is very tempting...now the hard part is going to be actually getting them to cancel without the etf.
Try it in April. Rumor is that they are changing the terms for data roaming on April 5th. I got out of an old Cingular contract when they changed some terms that were semi-major and I argued that those weren't the terms I originally agreed to and it nullified my existing contract. Be aware though that technically they don't have to do anything more than likely as phone companies got smarter with their terms and conditions. Just saying though, if you're adamant enough, it's worked before.

My dad owed like $80 on his Even More Plus plan. He wanted to move down to the $30 1500 min Monthly 4g plan. He was told because his account was suspended that he couldn't switch to the new plan without paying off the $80. Then the guy told us he could just sign up for the monthly 4g plan and just deal with a new number. So the $80 bill wasn't wiped out but he still was able to start a new account with T-Mobile. He used all his same info as the previous account.
I still don't understand how his bill was $80 since he was essentially already on a pay as you go plan and his service was shut off the day the month ended for him.
I like T-Mobile. Been with them nearly 10 yrs. I switched from Cingular shortly after they took over our local bell south mobile. I would hate to see anything happen to T-Mobile they have always taken good care of me.

Read the agreement though, I believe that you can't sign back up and receive any subsidies (cheap phones) for a long time. I know that when I switched to their subsidy free plan (Even more plus), they said that there was something like a 6 month time frame after canceling the plan before I could sign up for another plan and get phone subsidies again.
But why would I ever leave T-Mobile? two g2x phones with 2gb each and unlimited talk+text all for under $100 after taxes. I even get another discount for working for a university which is an additional 15% off. I can't get close to this with pre-paid.
Then I go to craigslist and buy my phones from people who think they didn't pay $700 after subsidy payments.
Potentially

Smh T-Mobile

So T-Mobile US pulled the E-Brake on wireless tethering and now if you want share the data you already pay 30.00/mo addl for (well me atleast), you now have now pay an addl 14.99/mo. I mean yes I keep up with the carrier market and I know they have had terrible numbers the past 2-3 years, but if ur tryng to pull your company out the mud you don't do it by making sadfaces on all you long time loyal customers. I mean can a brotha get a grandfathered account? Lol (hypothetical).
Anyway, I always thought since I was rooted I wouldn't run into this wireless tethering issue but I guess I was wrong. Anybody know or might know or even have an idea of a way around this? Many thanks in advance

I'm more than sure there will be a way around it, who actually uses the software that originally came with their devices when rooted. I heard the same thing and my next door neighbor has a Sensation and tethering works like a charm. Your not suppose too use it for running your game console and 90% of the time it's those people doing the complaining about using it and getting blocked.

Same here. With a 5gb or 10gb data plan, you can receive free wireless tethering.
If they are changing the contract you can get out of it. I got out of my contract with over a year left due to the changes they enacted on the 9th of April regarding data roaming. They did not want to let me get away without an ETF but I filed a complaint with my local Attorneys General and that fixed that problem real quick.
As of right now I have no contract anymore on my T-Mobile account, I'm just playing it by ear and waiting for a new phone to knock my socks off before I go find another carrier, but it is nice to know I can drop T-Mo at any moment without an ETF
People who were grandfathered in with true unlimited data aren't affected by this as well, right?
I've been tethering without anything going wrong.
I have the 5GB Grandfathered Preferred Android Data plan for $20 and I've been getting the tethering upsell screen. I heard that the free tethering add-on only comes with the $30 5GB plan or the 10GB plan and that they won't add it on to an Preferred Android Data plan.....
Edit: Called Customer Loyalty and they hooked me up with the free hotspot promo on both lines with Android Preferred Data plans after 2 online reps lied to my face. Customer Loyalty is the reason I stay with TMobile, those people are the best of the best and always help out long time customers. Thank you to all you CL reps out there, I know you're reading this

Yeah, they do tend to get you what you want now that the merger dropped. By chance did you ask them it doing that was going to extend your contract? When I did something similar when I had my G1, it ended up locking my service contract for an additional 24 months. My phone upgrade didn't change dates, just my service end date.

FCC Tells Verizon It Can’t Force You To Pay $20 For Tethering Anymore

Nice to hear. Wonder when we'll get a notice from verizon!!! F-You Big Red!
Can the FCC tell T-Mobile this?
It only applies to Verizon LTE devices. And upon reading a little bit more, it only applies to capped plans. What they are going to do is allow tethering apps to be downloaded by Verizon LTE devices. This is of course moot if you're rooted but I thought i'd share this anyway.
I wish this applied to unlimited data plans. Although I could see it being heavily abused if it was allowed. I bet they closely monitor those on unlimited now.
Also, this has already been posted and it's still showing on the main page.
