Did anyone here about this yet, according to the link, you can get out of your contract from tmobile without paying an early termination fee (I think it is $200 still)
Does anyone want to even leave Tmobile? I was thinking of doing this and then signing up back again to save for a new phone

Doubt it, but I guess can't hurt to try. But any company would be stupid to do this since they'd lose out on a lot of money.

well get it unlocked and then you can use it anywhere else. i've been thinking about this aswell and not sure which route to take. what would be a good phone to have that has a lot of roms or atleats cm9..and doesn't cost an arm and a leg for a plan.
right now i have unlimited everything for $73..am i going to get something better than that elsewhere? i guess a pre-paid option..but what pre-paid has bette 4g coverage?

you can carry "upgrades"? how does that work.
i think that $60 prepaid plan with 2gb of data is very tempting...now the hard part is going to be actually getting them to cancel without the etf.
Try it in April. Rumor is that they are changing the terms for data roaming on April 5th. I got out of an old Cingular contract when they changed some terms that were semi-major and I argued that those weren't the terms I originally agreed to and it nullified my existing contract. Be aware though that technically they don't have to do anything more than likely as phone companies got smarter with their terms and conditions. Just saying though, if you're adamant enough, it's worked before.

My dad owed like $80 on his Even More Plus plan. He wanted to move down to the $30 1500 min Monthly 4g plan. He was told because his account was suspended that he couldn't switch to the new plan without paying off the $80. Then the guy told us he could just sign up for the monthly 4g plan and just deal with a new number. So the $80 bill wasn't wiped out but he still was able to start a new account with T-Mobile. He used all his same info as the previous account.
I still don't understand how his bill was $80 since he was essentially already on a pay as you go plan and his service was shut off the day the month ended for him.
I like T-Mobile. Been with them nearly 10 yrs. I switched from Cingular shortly after they took over our local bell south mobile. I would hate to see anything happen to T-Mobile they have always taken good care of me.

Read the agreement though, I believe that you can't sign back up and receive any subsidies (cheap phones) for a long time. I know that when I switched to their subsidy free plan (Even more plus), they said that there was something like a 6 month time frame after canceling the plan before I could sign up for another plan and get phone subsidies again.
But why would I ever leave T-Mobile? two g2x phones with 2gb each and unlimited talk+text all for under $100 after taxes. I even get another discount for working for a university which is an additional 15% off. I can't get close to this with pre-paid.
Then I go to craigslist and buy my phones from people who think they didn't pay $700 after subsidy payments.
Potentially

Personally, I wouldn't take a chance on losing it. I'd just go to a retail store to purchase it just to be safe. Having said that, if you just switch your SIM card from your existing device and do not activate the SIM card Amazon sends you, that MAY keep you on your existing data plan. This worked for me when upgrading my wife's phone from Best Buy online.

I agree with this 100%.
I wouldn't risk losing your G-pa data plan by buying from amazon and then calling AT&T to switch back. Big gamble to save $50 up front but lose hundreds of dollars in monthly data charges.
Also, I *heard* that AT&T is selling the phone on-contract for $149 (same as amazon) if you buy an accessory. But even if that's not the case (no pun intended), I personally wouldn't risk it.
Call ATT and tell them about it. They should be able to fix it back to the unlimited plan. Believe or not they are pretty good about that.

This is true but avoid doing anything that has to do with your plan and features on the web. Its a headache and they won't care about what fees come on your bill. Example: upgrade fee, activation fee. I see it everyday as i do the same work in a store.

Dont do that. I work for at&t and that's a gamble not worth taking. Re adding a unlimited data plan is extremely time consuming as well as job threatening if re added for trivial reasons such as so a customer can save 50 dollars by purchasing from an indirect retailer. Is 50 dollars worth potentially losing unlimited data? Probably not

You do know they can see all changes made to your plan. I am sure if you call them the same day you get your phone (a couple of days from the change) and explain the situation they will help you.
Worse thing, send the phone back to amazon and tell them to put your account back to how it was before. Go to a local place and get it there.

Woah man, I wasn't trying to put you down in any way. Sorry if you took it like that. You seemed pretty upset with Amazon for charging you the extra fee, and I was just pointing that they're not the only ones who do that. It's pretty standard practice unless you buy directly from AT&T, and I feel Amazon is more up front about it than most. That's why I was saying it's right on their site compared to a lot of places where you'll find it buried in the fine print. Again, didn't mean anything personal by it.
What's the easiest way to get a new phone from Verizon before the eligible date? Even a different model, and flagship phone. I've been a customer since 2003.
When is your eligible date supposed to be? Usually as long as you have fulfilled 1 year since your last upgrade they will do an early upgrade for you. Only downside is that it has to go through verizon and you cant get any of the costco or amazon deals
Another option would be to open a new line on your plan and then later down the road drop one of the older lines.

Yup pretty dumb i think... Actually its an extra $40... $10 for the line and $30 for data.... Unless you have the cheapest data package.
Only $10 a month. I used this trick and just don't have a smartphone active on the spare line. It was cheaper to add a third line to our account to get a second Charge instead of paying full retail.

The quickest way to irritate a retail representative is to state how long you've been a customer. LOL That's true for any industry. Yes you've been paying for a service, but you've also been provided that service at a price you agreed to. Just a heads up, don't start the conversation with "I've been a customer since 2003."

Yeah that **** is annoying, I get that a lot. (Its ok to ask but dont keep pushing it and storm off like a little baby because you didnt get your way.) Theres nothing we can do as reps, maybe give you a little discount but we cant override upgrade dates and stuff.
We can call our main department and they wont even do anything unless your a week before your upgrade date.
I just was able to put through an early upgrade in the place of what would have been my third Charge. The first one was a replacement for the Fascinate, which I had had two of. I told them I was tired of Samsung products in general and they offered me the option.
I was one month from the year mark of the last renewal, and (since all of the phones so far were CLNR's) about the same from going out of warranty. Hopefully the Bionic is a phone I can feel confident in keeping for a year and a half or so. If not, there's a Vigor/TBolt 2 with my name on it.
I'm definitely getting the new Galaxy Nexus or Nexus prime, but I just switched to Verizon and got the Droid Charge on Day #1. I'll probably have to pay retail (which for the phone will be worth it). Do I have to call in Verizon and have them know I switched phones? Or should I just pop the LTE sim card into the new one (whenever that is) and be done with it that way?

You SHOULD be able to just switch the SIM. That should update your account with the IMEI of your new phone. I'm not 100% positive, though.

They buy a phone at the discounted price then switch their phones but leave their new line open. So they pay $10 instead of $40 because their is no phone on the line. I do something similar to this, and I use all of my lines upgrades and my kids get my last phone.

So wait.
I can add a line for $10.00 and buy, say, the new Samsung Nexus phone, but not buy data? Verizon does not require that a customer buy Data and I get the smartphone at the discounted price (which I can then swap to my data enabled ph#)?
So T-Mobile US pulled the E-Brake on wireless tethering and now if you want share the data you already pay 30.00/mo addl for (well me atleast), you now have now pay an addl 14.99/mo. I mean yes I keep up with the carrier market and I know they have had terrible numbers the past 2-3 years, but if ur tryng to pull your company out the mud you don't do it by making sadfaces on all you long time loyal customers. I mean can a brotha get a grandfathered account? Lol (hypothetical).
Anyway, I always thought since I was rooted I wouldn't run into this wireless tethering issue but I guess I was wrong. Anybody know or might know or even have an idea of a way around this? Many thanks in advance

I'm more than sure there will be a way around it, who actually uses the software that originally came with their devices when rooted. Same here. With a 5gb or 10gb data plan, you can receive free wireless tethering.
If they are changing the contract you can get out of it. I got out of my contract with over a year left due to the changes they enacted on the 9th of April regarding data roaming. They did not want to let me get away without an ETF but I filed a complaint with my local Attorneys General and that fixed that problem real quick.
As of right now I have no contract anymore on my T-Mobile account, I'm just playing it by ear and waiting for a new phone to knock my socks off before I go find another carrier, but it is nice to know I can drop T-Mo at any moment without an ETF
People who were grandfathered in with true unlimited data aren't affected by this as well, right?
I've been tethering without anything going wrong.
I have the 5GB Grandfathered Preferred Android Data plan for $20 and I've been getting the tethering upsell screen. I heard that the free tethering add-on only comes with the $30 5GB plan or the 10GB plan and that they won't add it on to an Preferred Android Data plan.....
Edit: Called Customer Loyalty and they hooked me up with the free hotspot promo on both lines with Android Preferred Data plans after 2 online reps lied to my face. Customer Loyalty is the reason I stay with TMobile, those people are the best of the best and always help out long time customers. Thank you to all you CL reps out there, I know you're reading this

Yeah, they do tend to get you what you want now that the merger dropped. By chance did you ask them it doing that was going to extend your contract? When I did something similar when I had my G1, it ended up locking my service contract for an additional 24 months. My phone upgrade didn't change dates, just my service end date.

The Gazelle store on ebay has some nice, gently used phones. It's probably where I'll be getting my next phone from.

Yeah, I thought everyone knew this.
To keep unlimited, never use your upgrade, ever.
That said, I think VZW will probably end unlimited completely in the near future.

+1 - No everyone knew, My TBolt still on contract till December 1 however I can able keep my unlimited account by buying full retail price of Samsung GSIII and No ETF fee at all! I can't complain!
I did ask one of my buddy who work for Verizon and he said that they will not end unlimited (grandfathered) completely unless you volunteer upgrade eligible or upgrade smartphone replace the current grandfathered phone.

Yeah I was looking the other day at phones and just had to ask also. No go for the unlimited on new phone unless you pay full price.
But I knew the answer before I even went in.
I actually went to Verizon yesterday and talked to a guy about the plans.
Yes, Verizon will no longer have unlimited data available to anyone... no matter if you're "grandfathered" in.
However, check your monthly data usage... you might be surprised at how little of data you actually do use each month.
Turns out that when it comes time for me to change my plan, I'll be saving more money from month to month.
This does vary from person to person, though. It's definitely worth looking at.
You can also keep your unlimited data by not renewing your contract and buying a phone from offline somewhere or at full price from Verizon. Just call Verizon and tell them you need to make an ESN swap to active your new phone.

so, you're saying that ALL unlimited plans will be axed in the future? i've done my own research, and don't want to debate at all either way, but am unsure what you meant in your post.
I heard that u can keep your unlimited but just like he said u will have to pay full price for your phone if u wanna keep it that is what I was told by a vzw rep. I personally burn about 13-14 GB a month so I do not wanna lose my unlimited lol

that's what i was told by several VZW reps. as well. when i called and spoke to a phone rep., she told me that VZW would never force paying unlimited customers (grandfathered) onto any other plans to continue service. how accurate that is, only time will tell.

They won't get rid of it if you currently have the unlimited data plan unless you renew or sign a contract. Unlimited data is no longer an option with the service plan.
As long as you keep the Verizon service and do not sign into another contract, unlimited data will be with you.
If you want to upgrade to another phone, you'll have to buy it off of the internet from someone or walk into Verizon and pay full price for the phone only... without starting a new contract or plan.
This is the only way you can avoid losing unlimited data.

You will not be able to change from one phone to another online anymore either.
If you do, it will tell you that changing to this device requires a change to your plan.
If you want to change from the Thunderbolt to... let's say a Galaxy S3, you'll have to call Verizon and talk to a customer service rep. and they will have to change it for you. Just tell them you need to make an ESN swap from the Thunderbolt to the Galaxy S3 and they will have no problem what so ever in changing it over for you without making any changes to your "plan"... even if you don't technically have one and they will not force you into a contract either. *At least not yet* and let's hope it stays that way.
Verizon will not turn down paying customers.

I searched but couldn't find a similar thread.
On my March bill in the Important Information section it says that they are changing the way they calculate taxes and surcharges on premium content:
Tax & Surcharge Base Changes Effective 4/1/13, Sprint will be changing tax systems for charges such as insurance & premium content. This update may cause an increase of taxes and/or surcharges on your bill for these products. For details of taxes & surcharges, visit sprint.com/taxesandfees.
There is a slickdeals post talking about it.
It hasn't shown up on my bill yet, but may on the next bill. The URL they refer you to hasn't been updated since November, so you can't determine if your rates are going up.
Taxes going up isn't a reason/way to cancel, but if they increase the premium service fees in any way then you can cancel without the ETF.
It's worth looking into if you want to drop Sprint for another provider (or just get out of contract to get a new phone).

Why would i do that, sprint is the best coverage in my area.
Wouldn't this be a material change of contract only if you subscribe to premium services?

Correct, which is why you could cancel your contract ETF free.
The question is, what is considered premium content. Is the $10 charge for more a smartphone considered premium?
Also, this may only be regional.I know people in California have been able to cancel already without the ETF.

The phone itself doesn't determine premium or not. Premium features may be items like damage protection, international calling, etc. It almost definitely has nothing to do with what phone you have. It's premium service features.
They don't charge an additional fee for LTE service. They do however charge a fee for Smartphone data service (since smartphones use more data than a traditional cell phone). That may be considered a premium service. If it is, then every Evo 4G LTE owner has an "out" on their contract.

Thanks for sharing. I've been looking for a way out of my contact. Sprint service here gets worse by the day. Most times I get about 10kb download on 3G. And that's when my data isn't disconnecting constantly.

If there is a way out of the contract then I'm definitely taking advantage of that and buying a new phone. HTC One or the Galaxy S4. Most likely the S4 since I'm getting sick of HTC. Good lookin' out. Hopefully this will work out.

For those talking about the charge on the OG EVO, it wasn't a 4G charge. Ugh. I feel like I'm repeating myself because people don't pay attention and don't care to understand. The $10 charge that Sprint started with the first EVO is a $10 data surcharge for all smartphones because they CAN use more data than a dumb-phone. It has nothing to do with LTE or 4G. It was an excuse Sprint used to increase their data fees while still giving unlimited data.

As for the person mocking me regarding the .36 cent increase and switching to Verizon and paying more. Look, I didn't say you had to switch carriers, it just lets you out of your contract. So cancel and restart under a different name or something, you can get a new phone for the subsidized price. I myself am sick of the crappy service and promise of LTE in my area that never came (was supposed to be second half of last year). Even with my free AirRave, service still sucks.
I too get an employee discount, but I also get a discount with all the other carriers. The ONLY benefit I have with Sprint is the unlimited data. Verizon and AT&T would only cost me $5 more per month with better service, and 4GB of data (we haven't gone over 3GB in the last 4 years).
So, feel free to be an ass and mock me,I don't care. I'm trying to help those who DO want a new phone for $200 instead of $500, or who do want to jump carriers (and get a new phone). To those select few, your welcome and good luck!
I've been following the Slick Deals thread as well as this one also here on XDA. I've already tried calling to see if they know what my personal change will be and, of course, the rep had no idea (she actually didn't even know about the statement on the bill in the first place). My bill comes out on the 10th of each month so I have to wait until then to see the changes and start my full attack.
