I'm in love with the Touchwiz 4.0 U/I. I'm wondering if it's possible to get that lockscreen on my rooted inspire with CM7?
I bought widget locker, and don't care for it, i've also tried magic locker and didnt care for that either.
MIUI has it

Is MIUI a theme or a rom? I'm new to rooting and rom. I just know i couldn't stand Sense and wanted as close to stock android as possible so i got CM7.

ROM
MIUI
Is it better? That's personal preference - try them both and make up your mind

Well I love HTC Design and build quality since the HTC Touch Diamond back in 2007/8.
Also February of this year when I got the Inspire there weren't many android options on AT&T. I wasn't getting the outdated Aria or Captivate, I hated the current iteration of Motoblur on the Atrix, and I didn't like Touchwiz 3 on the Infuse that had yet to come out. Best option for me at the time was the Inspire because I couldn't take the iPhone anymore.
I just happen to not be a big fan of U/I skins in general - aside from the new Touchwiz 4.

Well like stated before, if you don't like sense getting an HTC phone was not your best choice however since you made the choice and lucky for you the Inspire has a lot of development, you're not totally boned since you don't like the stock sense feel. Again, I recommend and stand by any of the Collective team's work (Absolution and BBmod). MIUI is nice too but reminds me of an iPhone too much so if I really wanted that type of look, I would have gotten an iPhone (not trying to insult anyone, just my opinion so any of the MIUI fans take exception to that, sorrrrry!!) Best bet try all of the AOSP ROMs and decide for yourself which one you like the most!
Isn't the point of android being able to create your own environment that suits you? Isn't that why we have such a bevvy of ROMs to choose from? I'm on the same boat with the OP, loving HTC's build quality but sense doesn't suit me 100%. I've just recently re-installed LauncherPro and I'm enjoying the environment much better.

Yet you recommend ROMs that strip sense from the phone. Why didn't you just get a Nexus phone?
I'd say that Touchwiz has more in common with the look/feel of an iPhone than MIUI has by far. MIUI has a very nice, clean feel to it and adds a lot of elements of customization to the table. I really enjoyed using it while I had my old Captivate, more so than CM7. Right now I'm enjoying Android Revolution + LauncherPro since this offers the most flexibility for my use. I'd say try out MIUI and see if you like it.

My good friend, I think you've misread or misunderstood what I was going at. The OP states he doesn't like sense. My obvious step in logical thinking is, "why get a sense based phone then?" I mean follow your own advice and tell the OP to get a nexus prime since he has explicitly stated he doesn't much like sense.
You're right I do recommend to him CM7 based ROMs because he has stated he doesn't like sense. Why would I advocate or recommend sense based ROMs to a user who has stated he doesn't like sense. I don't mind sense, I actually enjoy the U.I. I don't like that its a resource hog though. So I use CM7 based ROMs, not out of distaste for sense ROMs, just out of lack of customization in most of the sense based ROMs. From time to time I do use sense based ROMs ( BD or ARHD). I've just gotten to know the devs and users of the collective and have a hard time leaving them. Great guys/girls and some of the friendliest people you're gonna meet on XDA.
Like I said, my opinion on MIUI, if you took exception..nothing I can do there friend. That's an inner struggle you'll have to square away. MIUI is a great ROM, never said it wasn't, just reminds me of an iPhone. Plan and simple. My opinion. You're entitled to yours.

I don't like it. HTC must have been high out of their minds to take Sense this far. The animations are unnecessary.
I agree, Im not really liking it. The dockbar, IMO, looks like garbage. All those animations seems like it lags the UI as well
the animation is nice. but i don't like the launcher, sense's 3.xx launcher is better that.
I like the animations. The dock and the actual device are ugly. Sucks. HTC messed up on this one. For sure il be getting the amaze instead now. I rather have sense 3.0 on android 4.0.

Why if you can just root it an hopefully downgrade lol
i honestly do like thgis sense. i mean sure the launcher is a bit iffy but i like it and if it gets ported to our phone i wont mind using it as a DD
O__o what happened????
Software: it doesn't even look like Sense anymore...
i agree, the animations, while nice, look like they hog a bunch of memory, and aren't necessary... if it lags on a device like that, imagine how it would run on our Glacier..LOL
Hardware: reminds me of the Galaxy Nexus, specially from the side lol
it doesn't look as pro and nice as the Sensation... i mean.. wow.. single LED light? the Sensation has two...
much rather get the Sensation instead.
quite disappointed... hope HTC changes it before the official release.
Eww ugly
I'm a Rom Flip Flopper
I was concerned that Sense 4.0 would look too much like previous versions and not allow enough of ICS' great UI to show through. The leaked video was a pleasant surprise!
I like the new status bar, clock/weather widget, and dockbar. All three are a nice change from previous versions which were pretty close to identical going from the Cupcake version of Sense that came out on the Hero all the way up to Sense 3.5 on the Runnymede and Rezound. Finally something different!
Like most people I did not at all like the needless animation in the Settings window, but I'd still be interested in running 4.0 on the MT4G or any future device.
Not a big fan of Sense in general, but it does seem HTC has gone overboard with this one. The phone itself looks pretty sleek though, wonder how cool it would be running AOSP ICS.
I haven't seen the video yet, I'm throttled, but judging by the comments. It's possible that it's just a beta or something, I'm just guessing.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.

I actually like it, it sure looked like a beta to me. There is no way HTC is going to release something that laggy

I think it looks pretty good. I definitely like the new launcher. I hated the rosie dock.
I thought it looked pretty cool. Cant wait to see a finished product
I could care less about the lag; it's the UI itself that annoys me. This has resource hog written all over it. And, Sense got uglier. All this resource rape is unnecessary; people have made exact replicas of Sense using images and other widgets, and it uses a ****lot less resources than Sense's framework (not to mention, the framework is modded to hell). HTC is just getting unnecessary now.
I think HTC should of just watered it down, a lot. Keeps beats and add universal support. Animations are nice so keep those, and have HTC Widgets, and apps and that's it. Stock ICS with minor tweaks.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that. Sense has so many little touches are throughout the UI...far too many to list. There's no way to replicate the Sense experience with themes and widgets.
It's sort of like generic cola...it tastes ok and a little like real Coke, but there's no way to duplicate genuine ice-cold Coca-Cola Classic (or Pepsi ).

you're absolutely right.
people may have made "replicas" of it, but nothing beats the real thing.
just like how those people in China make those fake Android phones/iPhones and sell them
Looks great, but I'll always trade the looks of sense for the responsiveness and better battery life I get from an AOSP or CM build.
After looking at this, if sense REALLY turns out to be that way, I'm hoping some smart guy will make a rom for it without all the needless animations and resource hogging things.
I was really dissapointed that Touchwiz phones were more popular than Sense phones for 2011. I thought HTC would learn from that, but it seems they've gotten worse. I've been kind of excited for a Sense 4.0 rom but now im just probably gonna use my core droid 3.5 rom til my contract is up. If a nexus phone doesnt come to T-mobile... I will be forced to buy the only thing i see good enough....... a galaxy S 3 phone.
btw: I just saw this video today so im late XD.
It's too bad that by the time a real (fully working) AOSP ROM drops for this phone I will already be on my next device. I purchased my original Sensation (now on my 4th or 5th due to dust issues...) back in June of last year. CM7 was always half baked, and although it was my daily it was never really 100% complete. Not to mention they never released an official CM7 for the Sensation.. But anyway, now CM9 is "in progress" but my biggest fear is that it will be 4 to 6 months (at LEAST) before a fully stable, working, reliable AOSP ROM (CM9 or otherwise) is released for our device. The most unfortunate part is that the hardware as a whole is certainly capable, and the devs are certainly good, but it will most likely be a case of "too little too late" for me. I have my eye on a true STOCK device such as the Nexus line, as that will really be the only way to go in the future. The main reasons are as follows, let me know if others agree
1) Almost instant (not really, but you get my point!) updates from Google
2) Those same updates can immediately be applied by Dev's for even more fun!
3) NO SENSE
4) NO SENSE to remove
5) Did I mention those phones don't have Sense???
I am with you. Though Virtuous has relatively decent ICS ROM that I am using, almost no trace of Sense.
Actually considering Galaxy Nexus now, on dailysteaps for $530 today.
Not sure wife will approve since she is still on Vibrant.

Its a good question, and the reason was I simply did not know how awful Sense was. This was my second Android phone, and my first was a bone stock (and loving it!) G2 made as Google intended it to be. I honestly had no concept of the horrifying abomination that Sense is. It was beyond my comprehension that HTC would bother to not only create that beast (sense), but to make it so hard to remove. I loved the hardware build of my first HTC phone and I just assumed Sense would be minor cosmetic changes, clearly I was VERY wrong and should have done much more work before selecting a new device. Also, at the time I purchased the Sensation the hardware was top notch, and it was the most powerful device you could find. Immediately upon powering it on and seeing Sense however, I realized the gravity of my mistake.....
Hmm well. i dont the blame the guy cause.......
This is my first HTC. on the galaxy s side sense use to look like the best android rom ever! we only ever dreamt to get sense 2.1 on our device.
Now that i got sensation with sense 3.0 it was a disaster.
The ui was good but toooooooooooooooooo memory hogging and then all of a sudden i realise samsung majorly improve touchwiz and it looks amazing, the day i slapped myself and what makes it worse is the fact the amount of support the galaxy s 2 is getting compared to our phone
Now my next phone is galaxy s 3 definitely.
however now everything is starting to look so much better tbh because and solely because of trip and only 10% virtuous team and shinzon.
he has had massive breakthroughs with our phone recently. he just released 95% stable fully working sense 4 rom which i think is much more optimised than sense 3.0

My Vibrant started hardware malfunction on data radio in June and at that time HTC Sensation seemed to be a high end choice, just came out with dual core, good camera, etc. I had G1 prior to Vibrant which was made by HTC ( as did my wife and teen) and they were well built and had a good hardware. Little did I know of all the keylogger and other goodies baked into Sensation, should have taken Nexus S instead in a hindsight.
The phone is not too bad with Virtuous ICS ROM now, but in future I will go for Nexus devices, no matter if CPU/GPU not the latest or greatest. Still conidering that Galaxy Nexus dailysteals deal for $530 running today.

i think i will wait to see how the galaxy s3, xperia s, and the htc one all do before upgrading... my priorities for my next phone are:
- Krait or Tegra3
- at least 300ppi
- strong AOSP dev support ie unlocked bootloader
- 720p and OLED a huge plus

it's basically the best of both worlds.
BUT. It's also WILDLY themeable and that's the reason I like it so much.
OMGOMGOMGOMG this makes me that much more excited to get my phone. lol. MIUI has been and most likely will always be my favorite rom basically ever, aside from AOSP. I like to use both on occasion.
I don't know why anyone would want to replace the One X's stock interface with the MIUI one. Sure, past Sense versions have been bloated, and MIUI has been a great (in some ways) replacement. Quick, pretty, functional. But I haven't had a moment's lag on my One XL, so I don't need anything quicker/more responsive. Any increase in responsiveness would be moot. And (IMHO), MIUI doesn't look as good as Sense 4. Lastly, you're actually going to lose functionality by running MIUI. I can almost guarantee you'll lose many great camera features, such as the awesome burst mode and simultaneous video/photo taking. HDR likely won't translate over either.
On another point, someone mentioned once (can't remember who, but I think it was a Cyanogen dev) that the MIUI team doesn't pay as much attention to security holes as they should, instead focussing on function and UI bugs.
Just my two cents!
Miui would be awesome and I agree the theme aspect of it is just awesome and given I'm a theme addict it would be ideal for me. This is exciting news indeed.

i'm a lover of MIUI. they're just now getting stable-ish releases on the GNex but not a dialy driver imo. hope i hang on to the HOX long enough to see a stable one.
If I could just find a rom or something similar to what I have now on my cappy that would be great. And the only two main things I like is how it puts my weather forecast in the notification pull down bar and it also shows weather and upcoming calendar events on the lockscreen.
I'll be installing the AT&T One X beta as soon as I see it. MIUI's so freaking awesome, I love how each part of the phone (lock screen, task bar, UI etc) can be skinned on it's own. People who think MIUI's just a wanna be iOS probably haven't dug into it. I initially installed it because I was an iOS fan with an Android phone. But as I got into the theming I was just blown away.
OMG! I need this!

one thing I really dont understand is the reason manufacturers put their own ui on top of android phones. Its not like they are gonna get any extra money from it. It seems like they are just too ignorant to realize that paying software engineers to create Sense UI and making their customers butthurt while using it is a complete waste when all we want is an unobtrusive android experience. I would gladly take a delayed kernel source if that meant that phones shipped with vanilla android.

It seems like they are just too ignorant to realize that paying software engineers to create Sense UI and making their customers butthurt while using it is a complete waste when all we want is an unobtrusive android experience. I would gladly take a delayed kernel source if that meant that phones shipped with vanilla android.

The custom ui's draw some people in, the buy the phone because the love sense, or touchwiz. Many people run custom launchera, but some but phones specifically because the want that custom ui.

Indeed
As soon as we have source builds will start so maybe July/August
They are probably working on it now. They might be one of the few oems that got the pdk a bit early that Google announced. So hopefully updates will roll out faster

They do this to help differentiate a saturated market. And believe it or not, I know quite a few people who dig sense, or tw. I myself prefer vanilla. But you have to remember there is a lot of little handy things sense does, like fb integration, that stock vanilla android does not do, and most users couldn't be bothered to play with it and mod it to work. I am just against manufacturer overlays as the next Xda user(the minority), but I'm just trying to enlighten you as to why these overlays exist, mainly to stand out from one another.

the ONLY reason I use a sense based rom is due to facebook syncing contact pictures. Its very handy. I know of haxsync, but I don't want to pay for something that should be/is free.
Everyone is entitled to there own opinion. I for one really like sence and would never bash someone for liking aosp. If I'm not mistaken I believe the manufactures are required to mask the ui of stock android. Except for the nexus series which is marketed as a google device.

Not true at all. It's the opposite. They like adding their own stuff because they think that's what sells. Go look at any "cheap" Android phone. They're actually lucky enough to get stock Android.
I've been wishing they could just make it the customers choice. It can't be hard to make a vanilla rom on top of their Sense or TW. At initial setup let us choose whether or not it installs Sense or whatever.

rquinn I have to believe Google wants the same thing.
Google puts a lot of work into the Stock Android experience. ICS is by a huge margin better from a UI standpoint than any version that has come before it.
Trouble is, unless you're a phone geek, you won't see it.
I can only think of one or two devices besides the Nexus that DON'T skin Android.
I want to try a Huwai device for this reason. I've decided that after I'm done with this device, I'm buying a Pure Google one. If the release of the Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Nexus to the play store is any indication, Google is going into the hardware business full time, and I can't wait to see what they do.
Skins can be great, but they should be an option that you can enable or disable with a button click.
I personally love Sense, but it's what works for you, obviously. HTC's Mail app has the best Exchange support I've ever seen in Android. Granted I've never used Samsung's mail client, so maybe it's comparable, but everything else is either really flaky, incomplete, or ugly. I actually wish they would bring back the My Shelf application that was on a few phones (like the DHD.) Of all the eReaders I've tried, it's been my favourite. I also haven't seen any calendar app/widget combination that has, IMO, come close to the HTC one in terms of fluidity and completeness.
But, on the topic of Jellybean: As someone else mentioned, I'm in no rush. This phone's damn near perfect. It's almost always buttery smooth, so I don't think Project Butter will improve it a whole lot. Google Now and the improved notifications would be nice though, I guess.

Project butter will, think of it like a tune up to a car, but a tune up to the Android code, probably a copy of linaro code on cm9.
